RETIREMENT BLUES

Relaxing

Gets taxing.

Fellow New Yorkers. PLEASE get out the vote.
Your country needs you...
And leave room for dessert.

BRONZE AGE

I walked at only seven months,
A feat for any boy,
Inspiring in my beaming dad
Lush dreams of athletic joy.

I might have had a storied career
And made the TV news
If only he hadn't gone ahead
And bronzed my little white shoes.

An athlete needs to be fleet of foot
Like runners of Kubla Khan's,
But how do you work up super speed
When your shoes are made of bronze?

Both surprising and sad, but a significant number of the 20-30 college educated transplants to NYC demographic are not registered to vote.
They may have lived and worked in NYC for several years but not interested in "civic" issues or government.....
J Watters (Maine)
Another anecdote: All the young adults in that age bracket that I know in NY, including my daughter, are very engaged in this election.
N. Smith (New York City)
But sadder still, that won't stop them from complaining...

“The New York Times’s response to a request from Donald J. Trump’s lawyer to retract an article....”

The underlying issues are very serious, of course, but Trump’s lawyer’s knee-jerk reaction to threaten suit seems silly enough to need some kidding, doesn’t it?

“Dunderhead Suit”
Tune of “Runaround Sue”

Got your threat and it’s really cute
But we say that your point is moot
You said you see libel per se
So we tell you: Make our day

(Say, say, you say libel per se, hey, you say libel per se, hey)

You should have known from your very first draft
That our response would be that we just laughed
Here’s our brief answer, and it is a beaut
Make our day with your Dunderhead Suit

To prove your action, don’t you need to claim
Some sort of damage to your client’s name
But what he said himself brought ill repute
So make our day with your Dunderhead Suit

(Say, say, you say libel per se, hey, you say libel per se, hey)

He likes a nuisance case
Hopes he’ll put people in their place
But it’s time that he should learn
When the story’s of national concern -

Here's the moral of the story when you run for Prez
It's fair to judge a candidate by what he says
Though he is ready now to waste his loot
We say: Make our day with your Dunderhead Suit

(Say, say, you say libel per se, hey, you say libel per se, hey)

Thank you Freddie!

Thanks Freddie, I really had a hard time trying to laugh over this ... but you've helped.

Why doesn't it surprise me that the Mayor would call voting a civic "right" and not a "duty". Just like him to turn responsibility into entitlement.
One more year.

Because it's a right (unalienable) granted by the Constitution. If you want to consider it a duty as well, good for you.
Lauren Anderson (New Orleans)
Voting is both a right and a responsibility. My ancestors fought for my right to vote. You sound like a privileged white male who has always had the right to vote. Same is not true for women and African Americans.
J Watters (Maine)
Maybe he called it a right vs a duty because that's what it is. On the other hand it's my duty (and it could be considered a right) to pay my taxes.
