I hope the whole weather section would rhyme after the "Take me out to the ballgame..." bit. Luckily, we got Freddie.

ON THE TV TRACK

If laugh tracks are the engine
That make all sitcoms run,
Can't other TV programs
Get in on the gainful fun?

Consider a glitzy series
That's filled with anguish and loss
About, say, a woman lawyer
In love with boss after boss.

In every episode
She wallows in despair
As hot romance cools off
And true love fails to appear.

Just think how much of a winner.
A breakout from the pack,
The show would be by adding
A heartwrenching sob track.

I hope the Mets win the wildcard so the Cubs can exact revenge for the 2015 sweep in the NLCS. Go Cubbies!

Long time Mets fans are celebrating this season, whatever the outcome of the playoffs!!

Of course we would be ecstatic over a deep run capped by a World Series crown, but this 2016 season has already been as remarkable as 2015!!

Let's recap - all position players spent significant parts or all season long on the DL this year and/or suffered through long hitting droughts.

Pre-season's "Great Expectations" for the "Best in the Majors" pitching rotation of Harvey, deGrom, Matz, Syndergaard and Wheeler morphed into the "Last-Men-Standing" dynamic duo of Colon and Syndergaard.

So, on August 19, after losing the first 2 games of a 4 game series against the Giants, the Mets record stood at 60-62.

The Mets are 5 1/2 games behind the second place Wild Card spot with 5 teams in the hunt.

Sandy Alderson has made - pre-season, in-season prior to August 19, or will make post August 19 - impact trades for power, speed, defense and veteran leadership (Cabrera, De Aza, Walker, Johnson, Loney, Reyes, R Rivera, Bruce, Salas).

Terry Collins is expertly managing a battered 25-man roster bolstered with shuttling AAA Las Vegas players through August 31 as well as after the September 1, 40-man roster calvary arrives.

The Mets win their final 2 games with San Francisco, finishing their season series with a 4-3 record, earning a significant home field Wild Card tiebreaker.

The Mets win 25 of their next 37 games, nearly 7 of 10, to clinch the #1 NL wild card spot.

LETS GO METS !!

Has the NYT ever written an article about Freddie? Who is this man who makes me smile and sing before I get out of bed?
Shawn's Mom (NJ)
@Lauren Anderson: Actually Freddie did get some ink in this column on Feb 3rd of this year. Scroll down to the "...and finally" section.

Hey what do ya know?! Finally a story about the Mets in the NYTimes that's not buried behind 30 other sports stories, most of which are totally irrelevant to the NY sports fan. The Yankees sneeze and the Times reports it in the first few items. The Mets have a season which demonstrates the character and grit of a proud franchise and we get a dismissive piece that barely recognizes their accomplishment and quickly reminds us:

"Even though they made it to the World Series last year, we are talking about the Mets here. Don’t get your hopes too high."

Mr. Wagner what are you doing here, covering the Mets or burying them before they have even played? How about talking to your editors about giving the Mets the ink they deserve during the regular season?

Win or lose this evening, the Mets are a great team with a proud tradition and their story this season is one of the best in baseball.
Tom Navesink (Red Bank)
A partial retraction... the article quotes Times reporter James Wagner, but it is really the article's author, Jonathan Wolfe, with whom I take issue.

My apologies to Mr. Wagner

I really do hope the Mets do win tonight. If they can go from worst to first throughout the playoffs, that would be even better. Unfortunately, no matter how good the Mets play, they will always be seen as the black sheep to the Yankees, which really makes them feel underrated just like the Liberty, who have also had a good season but mostly went under the radar as well. Nevertheless, I don't ditch my team if they do bad as I am loyal fan to the Mets, and I knew what it was like to be a Mets fan when they were bad, so I am no member of any bandwagon if anyone is asking.

"we are talking about the Mets here. Don’t get your hopes too high."

Well excuuuuuuse us! Normally I'd assume that such a comment was made by a swine yankee fan--but likely you are actually a long-suffering Met fan. Keep the faith Jonathan, tonight we surprise.
DMW (New York City)
The Mets make it to the wild card and The Times cautions on their potential success. Thanks New York Times for your lack of support. Would you have said the same if it was The Yankees?

When I read the Gomez Addams article, I just knew you would write this song! Thank you.
