Review: In ‘Spamilton,’ Broadway’s Savior Meets His Match. It’s Not Burr.

I saw Hamilton once, but I saw Spamilton twice – and I hope to go back for a third time before it closes at The Triad. It is without-a-doubt the funniest thing I have ever seen … and I’ve seen a lot of funny stuff in my life. You do have to know the musical Hamilton, as well as have an appreciation for and knowledge of the dozens of other Broadway musicals and composers it spoofs, but the performers are flawless and future powerhouses in their own right. A brilliant bit of theatre and comedy, and I hope Spamilton can find another home after its The Triad run. It may be about our Founding Fathers, but it definitely has the divine right to keep running as long as possible.

After all I have read about Hamilton, a parody has to be an improvement.

Hamilton is brilliant. If you haven't seen it, you really shouldn't pass judgement.

How can you judge if you haven't seen the show or taken into consideration its impact on our society? How do you even know? A NY Times reviewer wrote that Hamilton is probably the closest we'll see to Shakespeare in our lifetime. I agree.

We saw Hamilton 3 days before Lin-Manuel Miranda left (among other cast members). It was wonderful and we can't stop listening to the music. We have tickets for Spamilton in 2 weeks and are looking forward to the production. We actually bought tickets before this review came out so our anticipation has increased 10 fold.

It was a lot of fun and Nora Schnell has an absolutely amazing voice. You won't be disappointed.

Who cares: Both are silly filigree. And I thought Ms. Streisand had floated up into the firmament some time ago. Like the edgy ad writing, though--e.g., "galaxy of other stars", "colossal straddler", and "portmanteau spoofs".

Next, perhaps Mr. Alessandrini can put Pinter to music with an 18th century Santo Domingo backdrop and cast.

This sounds great! Good tickets for "Spamilton" have already been hard to get. This will probably make it impossible.

(Just kidding, I wouldn't dare even try, LOL.)

If it does well, will it still close on October 30th? Or maybe be held over for a longer engagement?

I got goosebumps and was so excited for the actress when I read "Nora Schell, a name to watch." That's a wonderful moment in a thespian's life. Great review.

Can't wait to see it. I was a production and marketing intern for Forbidden Broadway in the summer of 2001 when the same team put out Mr. President a hilarious parody about the Oval Office with Irving Berlin songs. Congratulations John!
