This is such a beautiful story; I am so happy for you and your dad and your people, says this child of New Jersey!

This is a beautiful piece and really captures what I've been feeling for the past week. As a lifelong all Cleveland sports fan, I can still remember exactly where I was during the 1997 WS Game 7, and everything else in between. My dad had season tickets to the Browns from 1977-1995, and I remember many cold Sundays in Municipal, screaming as loud as I could. It's great to see an article from the daughter's perspective, and I'm glad that Ms. Hoppert can share a Cleveland championship with her dad as I did with mine last week. Thank you so much for writing this piece.

great story that you don't have to be from Cleveland to appreciate. You capture the passion of being a sports fan so well!

after just 62 years, the Giants and Cleveland Indians will meet again in this October's World Series... to commemorate his famous catch in the 1954 Fall Classic, Willie Mays will throw the ceremonial first pitch ... LeBron James will sing the national anthem

This essay is a true reflection of the Ohio I remember. I moved with my family to Athens, Ohio from the very far away Chile. I had no idea about (american) football or basketball, and knew very little about baseball. In Athens, it was all about the Cincinnati Reds. We moved to Columbus in '75, then started at Ohio State in '78 - that is when I met the Cleveland fans! They were so much fun, yet so down to earth. In those days, the Indians were really bad, but my Cleveland friends supported them no matter what! They were so positive and optimistic, even though their home city teams were not so good. To this day, I will cheer for any Cleveland team over any other team...plus Ohio State and the Chilean National Futbol (soccer) team of course. Thank you for the memories.

Beautiful article. Fans of the Mets, Jets, Islanders, Knicks and Nets can relate

I was born and raised in Akron,Ohio graduated from Ohio state University. I married and moved to France, and through it all I have always been and always will be a Cavs fan. I was overjoyed when Lebron James choose to play in Cleveland (he was at home) I felt betrayed and cried when he left. I was at home visiting family when he came home and celebrated with my city. Even though I had to get up early to go to work (because of the time difference) I stayed up to watch game seven. Words cannot describe how I felt when they WON! I don't know if people can really understand what this means for northeast Ohio, so when I read this article and saw the pictures I said to myself: she knows, she gets it. Thanks so much for explaining it to everyone else!

outstanding, and touching, piece.
thanks for writing.
as a 'burgher, who lived within sight of jacobs for years, and saw a no-hitter at municipal, and watch james at the gund, in high school, a lot of tumblers fell into place.
granted, the 'quins got their fourth, but great for cleveland.

On 8-5-2006 being a Detroit Tigers fan from northern Michigan I took my father to a Tigers game for his birthday also the same day. I'll never forget him being a frugile person who worked in a limestone quarry for 38 years and having two back surgeries jogging down the street and high fiving strangers at 60 years old after Ivan Pudge Rodriguez hit a game winning home run with two outs over your fathers Indians. Lol. Go blue. Great Article also. Brought back some sweet memories.

Congratulations to you, your father and the City of Cleveland. Glad you got to share a championship with your father.
