Barry Bonds was a great baseball player. I really feel sorry for all you saps that have reduced the art of hitting to taking a shot of drugs. You really have no idea what it takes to hit a baseball, the hardest thing there is to do in sports. I also have a question of two, why wouldn't Bonds hit .407? Why would he take all those walks (he's MLB's all-time leader)?

I feel bad for the real hitting coach, the one players go to when they need help, then one who pulls a player aside for some time in the batting cage, to work through a problem. That guy has to grit his teeth and smile every time anyone tells him how lucky he must feel to be working for Bonds this year. Serious ouch. Mattingly's well-enough compensated to play along with it, though it probably galls him a little that Loria did this.

Why Loria wants to get involved in Bonds's hall of fame rehab is a puzzle, but so is just about everything about Loria.

Donnie Baseball should be in the Hall of Fame. Period. He was the best hitter in the majors for several years in his prime.

Don Mattingly thinks that Barry Bonds "was a hitter not unlike himself"? I think not!

Mattingly relied on his innate skills and ability, which (sadly) ran down after his back problems. He didn't resort to chemicals and cheating, a la Bonds.

Bonds "great" hitting was obviously fueled by steroids, which blew him up into a grotesque parody of the Michelin Man and added 20-30 feet to his long flies, turning them into homers. Cheating and lying were the essence of his hitting and nothing will change that.

I wish Mattingly and Bonds only the best for all the pleasure they gave fans for so long. The Marlins can only benefit by having them about.

Two great ex ball players. No matter how the Marlins do on the field it is worth the price of admission to see these two greats on a baseball field again. Good luck to the both of them.

Bonds was the best hitter I ever saw.
For the last few years of his career, he was walked intentionally a remarkable number of times. He MIGHT get one pitch to hit many times.

Yet he was prepared, and his skills so sharp as to make the most of that one pitch again and again.

He was possibly the most talented player in baseball for a very long time

Isn't it amazing how the bodies of many athletes show dramatic changes after they retire!
Fred Hampton (Chicago)
Hey Donna, if you're talking about Bonds, maybe you should know what you're talking about before you comment. Bonds does a lot of low impact cardio, including riding his bike up to 100 miles a week.

Barry Bonds should eventually be elected to the Hall of Fame!
