The best ever. Thanks, Peyton, for displaying football at genius level.

I love you, Peyton Manning!

I'm kind of shocked the comments aren't filled with good wishes and fare ye wells for a true champion. A fierce competitor, widely respected, a shrewd businessman, a funny guy, a man who revolutionized football with his thinking, his preparation, his incredible passing, who never seemed to take the dirty shot; a guy who demanded 100% but also gave 105%. Anything good about football is because of players like Peyton. The game will be poorer without him -- how can it not be, when the classiest guy in the game just left the room? But it does seem like time for him to walk away, to preserve his health. For me, football will be a lot less exciting. Thanks and good luck!

What American doesn't wish they had a job they loved so much that they cried when it was time to retire! Good choice Peyton. Now, perhaps you can coach Eli up a bit?

Among the greats, a fiercely intelligent player. Manning will be missed.

What void.... The guy has sucked for almost two seasons....

Now he can take HGH to his heart's content.

He no longer needs it.

If he did ( not proven ), he's not the first or the last. At least he didn't blatantly cheat like Tom Brady, he who let a poor assistant take blame and lose his job.

The book closes on a legendary career. It's great to see Peyton Manning leave on such a high note (like Elway also did in Denver), and it's also fitting that he equaled his brother's 2 Super Bowl rings. I can't imagine having to hear the criticism of people saying that Eli has more Super Bowl rings than Peyton.

And the fact is that, if Manning had anything even close to this season's Denver defense throughout his amazing tenure in Indianapolis, he could have won 4-5 more Super Bowls.

Yeah and if Brady played with Moss his whole career...

If Marino hadn't hurt his foot...

If Aikman didn't need smelling salts midway through every game...

If Montana finished his last years with the 9ers...

Did you watch the Indianapolis defense most of those years? I was just making a simple point that it takes a TEAM to win NFL championships and not one great player. Marino is a perfect example. Even with the "hurt foot", if he's the 49ers QB instead of Montana and Young, it's reasonable to assume he wins at least once. I don't think I'm going out on a "limb" here.

Brady played with Moss in one season and lost the ultimate game. If you project that to the whole career, multiple super bowls and all losses!
