U.S. Soccer Keeping Silent on FIFA Presidential Vote, for Now

If gender equality is important to the US Federation, then they should not vote for either of the Arab candidates in whose countries women continue to be the properties of their fathers or husbands.

FIFA is a cancer that spreads to other sports.
N. Smith (New York City)
U.S. Soccer is still silent about the vote because they're too busy planting astro- turf at stadiums where the Women's Team will play.

Little will change after this election. And Sunil will be trying to balance doing the right thing against doing the right thing for the post-election interests of US Soccer. The vindictive Blatter is not around anymore to punish those who don't support him. But coming out now against an eventual winner will be something Sunil will wish to avoid. It's no wonder they all want the ballots to remain secret.

Who cares? The US is a big fat ZERO when it comes to the number one world sport. The US should worry about the NFL, which (by the way) is far more corrupt than FIFA.

The U.S's vote counts as much as Lichtenstein so it doesn't matter all that much.

A key reason why FIFA got so corrupt
Paul c (California)
Secret ballots should have no place in FIFA. Let's have some transparency and let the closeted corruption cease. This isn't an election for home room queen. FIFA should be run like a sport, not as a business or a democracy. Promises to pay off nations is more of the same old money for votes corruption. Each country should know how their country voted.
And the whole idea that each country gets the same weighted vote is another part of Blatter corrupt plans. Countries with strong professional and amateur programs should have more vote / say in the elections.

No, that all countries get the same weighted vote is democratic. If only the countries "with strong professional and amateur programs" voted, well that means government by only the rich to only benefit the rich. Blatter understood this. You see this happening right here right now - do you not realize it?

Gulati will more than likely opt for the candidate that lines his pockets.

Per Borden Gulati states,
“The other issue that is of utmost importance to our board is gender equality. We want to continue to push that issue, and expect to do that regardless of who is going to win this election.”

Righto Sunil, nobody believes you especially the USA Women's team.

I'm sad that US Soccer is going to vote at all. FIFA needs to be blown up. Reform within the current system, no matter who takes the leadership helm, is not possible. The US should start a rival federation, announce and organize its own tournament in 2022, and force FIFA to disband.

And what makes you think the US can do such a thing? With the horrible way soccer is run in this country, do you actually believe someone in this country can create a successful soccer global organization? There was already a soccer organization that tried to rival FIFA and failed. What's already being done is enough. It's not like OUR sports in general have no corruption. Our sports including MLS is full of corruption and is getting away with it without being called out like FIFA. I rather REAL professionals from England (the birth place of soccer) create a rival global soccer organization. That would be the smartest move if ANYONE country try to rival FIFA.

I can tell you soccer (football) fans in the UK, Germany, France etc. were thrilled when the US started corruption proceedings against some of those FIFA officials cause no DA here cared.

What rival organization are you talking about?
niobium (Oakville, Ont. canada)
Hydra is right on. The US wants to dominate everything and , almost always, mucks it up worse than before.
