A significant amount of the "Hollywood" work used to be done in New Jersey. Then "block the bridge" Christy sent this work packing by denying tax credits to producers.

And they get tax credits and parking places! For what?
Mike (New York)
Money in the coffers of New York city small businesses and work for all of those who work in the entertainment industry who live in New York thus adding substantially to the income base of the city.

The movie/tv crews and their street and sidewalk clutter are one of the most annoying pieces of NYC life; add to that the number of parking places that go off-market when they move in. I hope that city is making reams of money off them. In fact, how much does the city get for closing down three and four blocks at a time. There's a story!

Exactly why do you live in NYC? I take great pride in seeing my city in movies and tv shows. If this is so annoying move to the outer boroughs.
Andre (New York)
The article answered your question (how much spending occurs). In any event of that is what you have to complain about (parking spaces) - NYC is probably not for you.
OMG (NY)
Last time I checked, the outer boroughs were part of NYC.

I wish that "Suits" actually filmed in NYC instead of just using the same stock skyline footage every episode. I guess it's cheaper to film in Canada?
N. Smith (New York City)
New York often has to be made up to look like "New York" again...Hooray for Hollywood!

“All the city’s a stage.”

Tune of That’s Entertainment

The street where we see the elite
In the park where they film after dark;
And those stars have us moving our cars
That’s the arrangement!

Bad luck, I can’t get by that truck
While the show that is bringing in dough
Takes my spot, so I park in a lot
That’s the arrangement!

The Fox crew that blocks us is causing some buzz
They feel here’s ideal to be filming the fuzz
Wait, there’s that Schumer guy’s cuz!
Amy’s co-stars are popping Bud Lights
While streets are awash with floodlights

So glam, but do we give a damn?
We say hey, please get out of our way!
But they’re here, and they spend more each year -
The city’s a stage
A stage with a lucrative arrangement!
Shawn (Hollywood's Favorite East Village)
A great one, Freddie!

The storytelling business is such a great boon to any place it lands. That it s flourishing in the city is good for everyone who lives there. The economic juice that the business provides, is spread across the entire spectrum of the city. The wages that are paid allow people to raise a family. And the image of the city is constantly reinforced across the world. What a great thing. Don't stop.

Many forget that the film and television industry began in the NYC area - not LA. This is a reclamation
