Manziel makes Ryan Leaf look like Tom Brady.

Have the Browns looked in Puerto Vallarta? I understand that's a favorite destination for people with too many dollars and too little sense.

Johnny showed up to a QB meeting on Wednesday inebriated and was told to get just make himself scarce. He did not need to show up at the training facility for the protocol because there was no concussion. The concussion was a fabricated cover story by the Browns to salvage whatever is left of his trade value.

I did not know that Manziel rhymed with "Leaf".

Too Young,
Too immature,
Too much talent,
Heisman too soon,
Too much money
and soon to be
too soon out of the National Football League.

Hello CFL.

You forgot the relevant part... clearly an alcoholic. I hope the Browns wise up and base any future playing time on his willingness to deal with his illness.

The Browns spent a first round draft choice on this guy, which simply means if he doesn't pan out, it will take about five years to CORRECT this mistake. The Rams drafted Lawrence Phillips out of Nebraska in the 90's, they finally cut him after two years, then bounced to a couple of other teams. He's now in prison facing murder charges. Manziel hasn't gone that far, but when an organization makes mistake on top of mistakes, you don't keep those people around, it is a bad RETURN ON INVESTMENT.

Vegas or not, I think Manziel has a serious drinking problem (he has a serious maturity problem as well, but it's the first problem that will kill his career). He's a punk that just hasn't shown enough talent to make him worth all the trouble he invariably brings. The NFL are champs at overlooking problems -- spousal abuse, substance abuse, steroid abuse -- if there's a hint of talent. That's why I got thrilled when Manning reappeared yesterday and took the field and won the game for Denver: a talent and class act like that will be missed when he's no longer part of the game.

Manziel is a gifted athlete - and he has had his entire youth being told by adults how very special he is. As such, Manziel is spoiled beyond measure - similar to many, many college athletes. Manziel's actions off the field are NOT a good example for other young athletes to emulate - but no one ever said being a gifted athlete in 21st century USA resulted in being a good person.
Craig (New Jersey)
Agree with all this - he is his own man, but has been enabled beyond belief, like so, so many top professional athletes.
Jett Rink (lafayette, la)
His behavior on the field, in the game, is no different than his behavior off. He is a reckless risk-taker. It may have paid off in college, but it's unlikely to serve him well in the NFL. His recklessness is possibly the result of his privileged upbringing, but he is a professional now. He should show it. Maybe his mommy will explain that to him.
WHN (NY)
Cleveland has mis-handled Johnny Manziel and he has drawn the ire of so-called experts who are right about as much as a quarter flip. I remember Joe Namath's behavior when he became a Jet and he was constantly a source of derision by "old school" football people. We know how that turned out. I hope the Browns trade him to a team that would recognize his talents and treat him correctly. Or fire the owner, one of the worst in all of sports.
Aaron Taylor (<br/>)
@whn: How do you fire an owner? I understand there can be pressure on an owner to sell, but has to be for extremely egregious reasons - internal player or staff issues certainly doesn't rise to that criteria, or there would be no owners, thus no football. Hmmm...maybe a plus side.

Brown's policy states he was supposed to be at the training facility. Not allowed at the game in Cleveland or Vegas.
Sparky (NY)
Oh my. If he really was in Vegas, that's the last straw. Cleveland should dump the guy.
kp (<br/>)
Regardless of whether he was in vegas or not i would think missing his required sunday appointment for concussion treatment is bad enough!
Bruce (Dallad)
The kid's an idiot.
Almighty Dollar (Michigan)
Johnny Foosball. Spoiled rich kid. Affluenza must be common in Texas.
br (midwest)
Put a fork in him--as soon as he got NFL money, he was done. We'll be reading about him ten years hence as yet another example of a guy who had everything it took to be an NFL star except character, and so ends up bankrupt/incarcerated/working in construction.
batavicus (San Antonio, TX)
Maybe incarcerated, but not bankrupt or working in construction. Mr Manziel's family is very well-to-do. My guess is that trust funds exist for generations of Manziels yet to be born.
Maurelius (Westport)
@br
He won't be bankrupt as he's supposedly got his parents money. It's amazing how all the sports reports kept on touting "Johnny Football" to drum up ratings for the draft. What a joke!
peddler832 (Texas)
One of the biggest 'busts' to come out of the draft in the last 20 years!
tornadoxy (South of the Mendoza Line)
Good point. Big housecleaning expected at Browns after this afternoons loss to Pittsburgh.
mayimfun (Harrisburg, PA)
Wow, how much more stupid can this guy get!!!
Cody McCall (Tacoma)
Another Joe Don Looney: rules are for other people.
James B. Huntington (Eldred, New York)
Johnny Foosball strikes again!
tornadoxy (South of the Mendoza Line)
OK, I don't get it...he wasn't playing, so what's the big deal about a casino?
David Appell (Salem, OR)
He should be on the sidelines supporting his teammates, and doing what he can to help his team.
Eric (Dover, NH)
Someone with a concussion needs to spend time literally resting his brain. This would include avoiding excessive cognitive effort or stimulation.
trudds (sierra madre, CA)
Sounds like you're ready for a career in the NFL.
Bigfootmn (Minnesota)
Besides, the coach, Manziel could also be looking for a new job next year. What a waste.
Technic Ally (Toronto)
As dog is his witness, he was in a different state.
cirincis (Southampton)
Dogs don't lie, but pictures can.

I feel bad for Johnny Manziel's dogs.
