AP has done very well but he has also had a lot of luck. He has yet to meet Texas Red at a distance that gives them more equal chances than the first time at a short distance. Also, he has actually not had outstanding speed figures. In fact they are in the middle of the pack since Beyer started keeping the figures that take into account many factors which help get a handle on what the raw time indicates. Even discounting his Preakness, which was only better than two other Preakness winners since 1993, he would have finished up the track to many performers in the other two jewels. Of course, there are many who say he was geared down. Regardless, let us hope that he faces stiffer competition in his last few races. This is his time to seal that he is the real deal.

Wishing AP and all the other horses a safe trip.

I'd like to see him race the talented filly Beholder in the Breeder's Cup.

He's the horse of a lifetime and deserves the chance to race at such a historic track in the oldest major race in the country. Hopefully all the horses will come home safely and AP will win the Travers, just like his ancestor Man o' War!

As a horse racing fan I will be rooting for AP. As a bettor, I will try to beat him.
If he wins the Travers or not, he is a very special horse. The way AP glides and wins will be never forgotten. He is the Champion that I dreamt of seeing in my lifetime.

I'm rooting for you American Pharaoh !

Kudos to the Zayats for being true sportsmen and doing what’s right for both the sport and the chronically neglected fans of horse racing. Win or lose, the connections of American Pharoah will have scored a much needed victory for The Sport of Kings on Travers Day.

Glad AP's connections did the right thing. Saratoga is the right place for the next race.

Can't wait to see AP run again! And Beholder is showing the boys how to do it out west. What a great year!

This area is going to be a mess. NYRA will screw something up. 50,000 is too many for the facility anyway and how many others will show up? Exits 12 through 15 of the Northway are apt to be a parking lot. Stay home and watch TV
GCE (New York)
Relax Jim, there were 70,000 there the day that Affirmed beat Alydar (or vice versa) depending on your betting slip. I was there and there were no massive jams afterwards. For the big days, as you know, they park overflow cars on the infield of the Oklahoma Track and elsewhere and route them only to exit 15 when leaving.

Yes, I would like to watch the race, but it'll have to be over the internet because I work on weekends (and most other days). I, too, hope it wins and doesn't get hurt.

I also pray that we put an end to the slaughtering of many losing racehorses. Instead, train them to pull carriages or wagons and sell them, at low prices, to the Amish. As you know there are many, many Amish families living in this part of NYS. They would not kill horses and sell them for meat.

If it's really a sport, take care of the competitors when they get old - horses and jockies.

AP is a very special horse. If he can win here next Saturday, he'll only enhance his legend. He doesn't have many more races, so it's good people will get a chance to see him compete at Saratoga Springs; we may not see his likeness again for some time.
