The Mets have a front-rotation of THREE superheroes: "The Dark Knight," "Thor," and SAMSON. There's a lesson in that name. So Jake, just don't do it. JUST DON'T DO IT!

Get with the program deGrom.

Looking like your grandfather did, during the summer of love, is so passe....
Irene (Ct.)
Hair is power, noticed and commented on by everybody. Those who have it know that and flaunt it. It's part of Jacob's whole picture, he is going strong, why change anything?
Sherwood (South Florida)
I love DeGrom's looks especially when he is blowing away players with his pitching. DeG has 'Pizazz" on that mound plus talent. The hair makes it look like fun. Let's go Mets.
Jon Young (Staten Island)
I cut my hair every 3-4 years and donate it to Locks of Love. Been doing it for the past 20 years or so. Saves on haircut money for one thing and it goes to a good cause. Maybe DeGrom could hook up with this charity or a similar one.

Hysterical image... GREAT pitcher. Undoubtedly the ace of the staff... but he won't cut it until November. Yes, I said November... when the season's over. Hope springs eternal. LGM!
A.L. Hern (Los Angeles, CA)
Too bad that Joe diMaggio isn't still alive. If a ballplayer's going to have his precious hair cut, it should only be at the hands of the Yankee Clipper.
Leigh (Qc)
Long hair like deGrom's has to distract the hitters even more than it does everyone else. Should he cut it and his stats begin to tank, look for every other pitcher in the league (who isn't bald or balding) begin avoiding their barbers.
testastretta (San Francisco CA)
Please leave it be. For this SF native, Timmy's success was surely due to his flowing locks. Look at what his stats are with the Rachel Maddow 'do.

OK, I know deGrom's hair is inevitably going to generate stories like this but I don't see any comments on the following point, so I feel compelled: deGrom is in the top tier of pitchers in the game, there is no bigger reason his team is in first place, he plays in NYC, and you don't hear that much about him...unless it's about his hair.
Fatso (New York City)
I am a big Mets fan and follow the team frequently in the press. DeGrom's hair might be mentioned in passing, but the majority of the time, the news is about his talented pitching.

As for me, I am worried that he might cut his hair. Harvey is nicknamed The Dark Knight. Syndergaard is nicknamed Thor. I think DeGrom should be nicknamed Samson; he should not cut his hair.
Steve Hunter (Seattle)
Articles on Hillary's hair, Trump's hair and Bernie's hair and now this on deCrom's hair, is the NYT that shallow or are you now the "hair police". Get a grip and write about something useful.
Karl Weber (Irvington NY)
Hey, guys, this is the sports section--it's the toy department of the store. It's okay to lighten up and have a little fun talking about "meaningless" topics. In the grand scheme of things, baseball itself is "meaningless." And I say this as a lifelong Mets fan.
Navigator (Brooklyn)
you gotta have a gimmick if you wanna be a stah.....
JRM (New York, NY)
Say it isn't so! We love to see his hair blowing around! Makes him fun to watch and certainly doesn't affect his performance on the field. If I have a vote I'd like to see a little bit peaking out in front of his ears...like sideburns. That would require a tiny bit of snipping.
JeanBee (Virginia)
I was with you until the sideburns suggestion, which I deeply hope he will not adopt. His hair and face are great just the way they are. Along with his performance on the mound.
Rob (Bronx, NY)
I think he should cut definitely his hair short, so he's comfortable at home, but wear a wig to all the games. Tell no one. The perfect plan!
Paul (Bellerose Terrace)
Don't cut it until your first bad streak.
MCS (New York)
I have blonde hair of the same length and women,...and men, adore it. Ha. But finally my sleep meant more to me, it gets in the way and also is a lot more work just washing and be cognizant of weather and temperature and well, I cut it. Now I get a different attention, yet attention nonetheless, not that it is my motivation. I like how long hair looks on me. But mostly a guy with hair gets attention because most guys unfortunately lose a lot by 30, I'm going strong at 40 and no gray. Someone once said, "Hair is Power." Maybe not, but it matters to guys who don't have it and to women who love it on a guy. One day, it will change maybe, but I'm enjoying it while I can.
Larry Eisenberg (New York City)
Don't cut it DeGrom, I beseech,
The Hall of Fame thinks you're a peach,
It's the one for Hair Styling
Right now that's beguiling,
Cooperstown's still out of reach!
gerald42 (White Plains, NY)
I hope he doesn't cut his hair. The bible teaches that he will lose his strength and 5 MPH off his fastball. But his curve should not be affected (whew). We can't take the chance! Don't do it.
Mary (<br/>)
He should learn from history. Remember Felicity? What would Keri Russell have to say about the financial consequences of a haircut, I wonder?
Mr. Robin P Little (Conway, SC)

Men, take note: very, very few men look good with long hair. Unless you are a star pitcher, or quite handsome, or both, don't try this look at home. Google for pictures of this guy without his hat on. Do you look like that? Probably not.

What I do notice is a class divide for looks American men favor with their hair: many blue-collar workers love wearing their hair long, sometimes even with mullets (gasp!) because it is a symbol they can get away with doing so, a kind of reverse-status thing. Their jobs don't depend on them looking clean-cut. If your plumber shows up with a mullet, you are probably more concerned with how much he charges rather than his hair style choice.

Go Mets!

So spoke thee, from Mount Olympus.
Alan Chaprack (The Fabulous Upper West Side)
".....and his hair has become an identifiable - and marketable - signature."

Not as much as his fastball.

dont cut it, jake, unless in the future. you only have a so-so year.

a Bad year is out of the question.

lets go mets!

C'mon! How did you miss THIS opportunity?!

"If deGrom does cut his hair, he said he would probably do something similar. But he says he is still mulling it over, and will probably not decide until after the season." No, man - he is still MULLETING it over, of course.

How did you miss that fat pitch?
Steven M. Ziolkowski (New York, NY)
Because its not a mullet. A mullet is short on the sides. If you look, while he pulls his hair back over his ears, its not cut short like a mullet.
