I watched the rebroadcast last night, which finished at 2:00 in the morning. It was worth it. What a beautiful game! The result would probably have been different if Bayern Munich had fielded a stronger side. Nevertheless, Barcelona fully deserved the victory.

I think Real Madrid-Juventus will be the more interesting second match. I'm fine with Barcelona defeating either of those clubs.

Some Bayern fans watching the game with me kept reminding me towards the end to wipe the smirk off my face that I should remember Porto and that two of the best players in the world did not play. Good points, however, the smirk stayed on.
There were a couple of posters who used to come here blabbing about "German Supremacy in Futbol". I wonder where they are hiding now after getting their butts beat up by RM last year and Barcelona this year.

Messi...can we even put a price on the guy? What's he worth? €200 million? €500 million? He may be so good and so expensive that actually his career options are quite limited...

A magnificent match! - One was truly surprised by Pep's gamble at the start with so few defenders, and Neuer made it stand up as Barca ran Bayern up and down the field, but by the second half Messi's magic made its appearance with his two goals (the latter was a thing of rare beauty), and then Newmayer's score sealed the deal.

Pep should be proud that Luis Enrique has added to Pep's old team and once again turned it into probably the best team in the world. But it isn't over yet!

We are privileged to live in a time where we can witness 'live' the career of Lionel Messi.

Dear Soccer/Futbol Fans:
Are you depressed because you can't get your friends/loved ones to watch
and thrill to top level play as you do? Coax them to watch a replay of this game, or Messi highlights - not just goals but his closely controlled balletic dribbling. You are doing them a great favor. A joy forever.

What. A. Match. This is what the Champion's League is about -- the best of the best settling it on the pitch. Two giant heavyweights slugging it out, and if the visitors weren't proving much of a goal threat on one end, Neuer was massive on the other. Bayern managed an unthinkable >zero shots on goal< but they had the game right where they wanted it. Until, of course, Messi shifted up a gear and ran them over. GOAT -- there can be no question.

Next week could be a goalfest. Bayern are not going to lie down like PSG and with Porto in mind will attack attack attack. Which with MSN in this kind of form will probably be suicidal, but their only chance. If anyone can do it, they can. Time for Pep to show us what he's got.

Messi is from another planet, in a class by himself. Guy's amazing.
I mean the way he turned Boateng around, tumbling as if he was dizzy is pure, raw skills that's a joy to watch. It’s a privilege to watch him play.
Who in the world could do that to a world cup winner defenseman?
Only Messi !
Is he the best ever?
I think so...he's even better than Maradona.

"Class by himself" is how I often describe him. He so much more than goals. Leads CL in goals, non pk goals, assist, chances created and dribbles. Had 7 successful dribbles in first half yesterday, Bayern as a team had 1!

Total footballer.

Magic.
A terrific match. One of the best CL's matches I have seen in a long time.
Once again Messi was sublime. The man is such joy to witness.
The score could have been much worse if Suarez and Neymar hadn't been so wasteful and Manuel Neuer so immense.

This tie is a long way from being over. Pep will have to gamble even more at home. A higher back line, one less midfielder and another attacker.
But MSN were fantastic, and Rakitic, Busquets and Iniesta bossed midfield.

Visca Barca!

The way messi bamboozled Boateng the name of the unfortunate defender has become a verb in the blogosphere.

There are few things that can match the exquisite thrill of watching Messi do what he does. Trying to imagine the kind of pressure that was inexorably building during this match; and the kind of singular magic it would take to make a statement had the hair on the back of my neck standing. Messi's first goal broke the spell and with it Bayren's spirit in such a palpable manner that you could almost feel them deflate as they gave up two more in short order. it was as well placed a dagger as I've ever seen.
