The child crossing in the front of the photo is not much taller than the plants that have grown on the side, especially considering that he is already standing on a boat. The boats are clearly arranged in a uniform matter to serve a new purpose as a road. Maybe there was water below and that’s why the boats were already there. The plants outgrew the water, therefore making it hard to be mobile on boat.
The people in the image look nonchalant as if this is not a strange experience. The child looks carefree and acts as if he is used to seeing this. The makeshift road has probably been there for quite some time and everyone has become used to it.

what I see in this image is a group of people crossing the river/lake with plants by using the boats as a bridge to cross. this makes me say that because as you can they're not rowing the boats, they are walking over them.
It seems as if the people are trying not to kill the plants by walking on the boats. I think of this because everyone looks cautious about where to step next except for the man in the green plants, whom some are looking at. What's a bit strange is that everybody in this image looks like they are all the same race so this place might be unknown to many foreigners. I wonder if there is a river underneath the boats and if the people walking over them would water the plants and treat as a garden as we would? I can also see children crossing with their parents, I think these people are trying to reach a location through the jungle like a camp or meeting place. In the canoes there are small packages that the people are standing on, the people that are crossing on the canoes also look indian so their location could be in india or something. The picture also seems like these people are on a tour to look at vines, plants and animals around that area. Some people also seem to be going in two different directions because two woman, two men and a child re going right while the others are going left.

i think that these people are trying to cross a jungle with canoes because there is soo much vines i also see that the girls have things over her head and some boys do to so maybe it is a hot day and these people don't want to get sunburnt and also the little kind has a T-shirt and shorts and mabey used canoes because it might be easier to walk on and it looks like there is some king of trash on one of the boats.

In this image it looks like People are riding on boats maybe on a very small river that we cannot see? It also looks like in these boats there are boxes or packages that may be full of things like, food clothing,etc. This could also be a path that people use to get from place to place so they don't have to walk through the leaves, or crops to get to another town, or place.

Maybe a tobacco farm...? I can see very faintly that there is some rope tied to some posts that are tied together. Probably this is Bangladesh given the photographers name. I think people got fed up waiting for government funds for a bridge hence this wonderful idea of a makeshift bridge across the swamp.Alternatively this may be temporary bridge during monsoon season. Life goes on ....undetered
Boats have been tied together to create a bridge for traveling over the swamp. There are two reasons to explain for the picture. First, this is a remote and impoverished areas where they are unable to build a cement bridge. The other reason , may be they want to protect their enviroment and the way to attract tourists.

In this picture I see lots of people possibly families, walking across these boats that look like they could be tied together over some water. They seem to be traveling lightly with little in their hands. There are few children in the photo. Mostly adult men helping each other and the women across the boats. I wonder if this is considered a normal thing for them. Could they just not want to wlk on the plants so they will grow? If something causes them to need the boats do they just go set them up or are they always there?

My students think that the people are traveling across a boat bridge. The boats are kept together by ropes. People are going in different directions to get where they are going. My students think that this is happening in India because of the clothes they are wearing. The land is too marshy and they used what they had to make the boat bridge. They may be picking some of the plants.
Our class thinks this photo takes place in the 2000's and is in an Asian country. We can see this takes place in hot weather, maybe during the summer months. We inferred they could be climbing up or down a mountain. It might be a trail or a path made of boats. We inferred that the boats were older than the actual trail itself (or at least when it was built). Lastly, we wondered if this was a manmade boat trail?

what I think is happening in this picture is that its around a third world country and that they happened to be crossing this vegetation or have to be getting this from the ground as if it were a crop of some sort. There is a man sitting because he is probably tired of walking or he is doing something that we will not mention right now. They built boats so that they can walk through the plants and not get bitten or sickened by any type of animal or plant.
I think this is a bridge over a river or stream of water so they can cross over the bridge, but they do not have the materials to make a concrete or steel bridge, so they used boats and bamboo sticks to hold it up.

I notice many people walking on a seemingly man-made path of what looks like a trail of boats. This picture shows a long path of boats. It looks like it may just be step, but you can see on the boats that there are machines or engines. I would assume that they would be in water because boats wouldn't typically be on land, so the plants may be in a swampy area. It seems as though the people in this picture are walking from boat to boat, looking downhill, maybe to get to the bottom. I wonder if they are migrating or at least using to boats to go somewhere. The boats could also serve as a bridge so the people can move to other land. I think this picture comes from Asia, near the Arabian Sea or Indian Ocean, within the past ten years based on their clothing and how clear the picture is to see.

Good afternoon! These people are using the boats to cross over the water. They are harvesting the leaves. They had to be creative because they didn't have enough materials to make stairs so they tied boats together. This is present day in India.
In this picture, I see adults mostly and a few kids crossing boats. The reason I say that is because I see people crossing the boats and that they are connected together so people can walk across them. I can see that the boats are helping people get from one point to the next and to where ever they need to be.
In the picture, I see that there are a lot of families on boats crossing a field. They might be avoiding something in the field that might hurt them. They also might be trying not to hurt the crop by tieing boats together.
@James I disagree that they are avoiding something that could hurt them, I believe that they are using the boats as a bridge or to pick crops that are growing in the water, making it easier so that they don't have to get wet or have a chance of ruining the crops.
In the picture, I believe that the people in this image needed a path to walk through to get to their destination. They didn't want to get into the river and get wet, so they used boats as their path to get across. What makes me say that is a long string that may be a rope connecting the boats together. There are plants on the side of them. They most likely don't want to walk through that.
In the picture, I see people of many different ages stepping across boats. The boats appear to be linked together with ropes, which makes me think that people may use them to walk this route often. A young child leads the way, and people look over the sides of the boats to check out what is happening in the underbrush growing out of the water. I would guess that the boats keep people protected from needing to walk through the water, which could be uncomfortable and potentially dangerous!
I think this is in India because of their clothing. I also think that it is either an event or some sort of land mark or major attraction in that area. And I also saw boats, I think that the boats are so they don’t step on the plants.

I think this picture is taken place in some Asian country, like India. The boats are mostly filled with boys and men and are only two women in the whole picture. This looks like they are making a temporary bridge out of boats. The boats are held by poles. It seems like there is water under the greenery which could be a marsh. This seems very temporary and could end up becoming a bridge at some point.
In this picture it looks like their are many people in a crowed river of some kind, with many boats packed next to each other. There seems to be along of greenery around the people in the boats, so maybe they are gathering waterer veggie is growing in the water to eat. The women are covering their heads, a common statement that women in middle eastern countries wear. This is a recent photo because it is in color.

It looks like vegetation has overgrown the waterways in a poor southeast Asian country and the boars are being used as a path way or a way to harvest the plants.

None of them look very tense, and one group of boys is looking at something in the marshy plants, leading me to believe that this path isn't here for any critically important reason, just for transport or aesthetic reasons.

I think this is a picture of people crossing a hyacinth-infested river by walking on a row of boats parked across the river. We have something similar to this in Kalimantan, Indonesia, where there are is a grocery market on a river and both buyers and sellers navigate through the market by riding their own boats. It's such a unique sight

@Mark I had the same idea. You can usually not stand in a boat, without falling into the water. My guess is that that the water isn't very deep, so the boats are comfortably sitting on the bottom, rather than floating. Although they could definitely be supported by something underneath that keeps it stable.

They are looking over into the plants and seems to be that there are a lot more people but the picture shows less. It looks like farm and it looks like there's bamboos holding the boats. I think the people are plucking food or something in the picture.

In my opinion, I think they are in a foreign country due to their skin tone. Maybe they've done this before. because in front there is a child wandering all carelessly like most kids. There have been several theories floating around - from evacuation to journey to ancient lands. @Cas shares a perspective and evidence that this is a relaxed, common occurrence we are witnessing.
In this picture the viewer sees a lot of boats lined up but not in a straight line caused from the waves of the water. The boats are there to help the people cross or to get to a crops location. Based on this photo the skin colour of the people and how the men look like they’re doing some kind of field work and the women are walking along the boats behind the kid, makes me think that the location is somewhere in east asia.

In this picture, it shows a path that maybe leads to a land that was discovered a long time ago. I know this because of the clothes that they are wearing and the objects they are steeping on to get to the land. The picture shows that this could be taken place near India. I know this because of the weather also a type of wetland where the plants grow out of the water. I noticed in the picture how some people are going different ways and maybe they are trying to find crops or another source like food or water. I know this because the people are facing going in another direction. Based on the evidence this was taken in India where the wetland plants are located.
In this picture I was sitting here determining which aspects of the are important and non important with further analysis I can only assume that the boats are acting as a path/bridge.
After I noticed some small stuff happening in the photo like the fact that the boats are fastened together, and that i looks like the man wearing the blue striped shirt is trying to harvest some of the plants. Then I got to thinking about where this image took place my first guess was south asia because the two women in this picture are wearing hijabs. But just guessing that they were in south asia was something I didn't wanna do so with some research i determine the plants maybe fresh growing spinach and spinach grows primarily in south asia.
Our students noticed linked boats and heavy vegetation in the picture. They concluded that that the boats were used to cross the heavy vegetation, almost like a bridge. The students guessed that this was some where in Asia. They noticed the people wearing traditional clothes.
This picture looks as if there are people attempting to get across a hazardous area as the people exclusively walk on the boats but they don’t seem to be afraid to touch the plants because if you look at the guy wearing the blue and white shirt (he is also chrouching) is touching the plants so they are probably not poisonous so my best guess to what the hazard they are avoiding is some kind on venomous or otherwise dangerous animal that cannot climb the plants more evidence is that the boats look as though they have been hastily put together as evidenced by the bamboo supports that are misaligned and they definitely were not professionally done probably because they couldn’t get professionals to do it because it's dangerous you may see it and think they are running from some natural disaster but it is not a natural disaster as you can see there are people moving both ways, if this was a natural disaster then people would only run away speaking of running most people are not running if i was in a disaster area i would run there is even a kid jumping between them.
i see lots of plants or crops but i don't see any water in the image so i wonder why there are boats. i think they are walking across the boats to get to their village or town and they are walking on the boats for protection
In the photo, I see two women, wearing hijabs, making me think that the photo was taken in the Middle East to South Asia. I also noticed that there is a bag on the boat in front of the boy, which I think is weight because the boat can flip with body weight, so it needs to be balanced. It looks to me that they are using the boats as a bridge to cross all the crops so that they don't ruin the plants by walking where they are growing.The boats are tied together so they don't come apart when they get old. Everyone there seems pretty comfortable with the area so they don't have to keep close watch on the kids.

I think that they are using the boats as a bridge/path way to get across the water and crops. The crops look like spinach and that is a native plant to central and western Asia. The people also look very distinct to native people that live in western Asia. They also look like they are used to this because of the one woman in front is letting her son go ahead probably because she knows that it is safe and ok for her son.

In this picture we see a lot of boats that look kind of like a stari case. We see a lot of green, tall grass. We see people that might be from India. It looks like people are crossing a bridge made of boats over a marsh. It doesn't look like it was a party of boats that got stuck in the marsh, because people are walking in different directions and the boats are tied together and tied to support poles. The supports appear to be made of bamboo so the climate is probably more tropical. Because of the lush green plants and choice of clothing it is probably spring or summer where this picture was taken.

I think that the plants are just naturally growing there. I recently heard that there are some invasive plants that can completely take over lakes and rivers. That might be what is happening here.

It looks like the people in the picture are migrating to a certain location. At the moment that the picture was taken, it appears that the boats were caught in a marsh. Looking at the boats, they seem to be tied together forming a bridge. This might be because the people have reached their destination and are unable to continue by boat, so they might be rushing to land across the boats. The picture was probably taken in an eastern hemisphere country, judging from the outfits and the environment.

I think that these people are going to see this tourist attraction. I think the tourist attraction is stairs, and the steps are botes. there are many people that are on the botes and are there to see it because its so cooI. Also think that this was somewhere in Africa.

I think the picture took in Southern Asia like India on the water pond. So many green plants growing in the pond. People are trying to cross the pond, they found a smart way to pass by connecting the wooden boats. So the people can walk on the boat to cross the pond. I can tell people were very cautious when they walk on the boat and tried to balance the boat, not to tip it over. Because most of the people are looking down at their feet. The young kid walked at the front because the kids are usually less fearful than adults.

The people are fleeing their countries. This is true because all the people have little to no supplies with them to survive. In addition, the route they are taking is near a river and has boats, which makes sense if they are trying to travel away. It seems most believable based on the given evidence that the people in this picture are using the boats on this grassy river to cross over it without getting wet. One way I can tell this is the people are not sitting in the boats and are rather standing and walking across them. It also seems to be that the boats are all very close together so that they can cross the water. The reason I know its water is because it wouldn’t make much sense to put boats on land rather than just walking across. These are the ways that I can tell that the people in the picture are using these boats as a bridge across a body of water covered in plants.

In this picture we see many people walking on a row of boats. Surrounding the boats appears to be many tall plants, with bamboo sticks planted in the ground. I am presuming that this is taking place in India based upon the peoples nationalities and clothing. The boats could be laid down as a way to walk across the tall plants and are tied together. The group of men in the middle seem to looking at something in the plants that is attracting a lot of attention.

I would also say that it looks like it is a warm area and these people in the picture are civilians that are not working. it seems that the boats were not put down by them, but that they are being used by them for transport.

It looks like because of the over growth of a kind of aquatic plant, the road has been blocked, at least the lake has been blocked. SO people had to use boat, to be their road. They connect many boats together to form a bridge to let people go across the river.

Hello! I see a line of boats, where adults and kids are walking across, in both directions. It does seem like the boats are on water, otherwise it would be difficult to locate those boats on land. If the boats were on land, it would seem that the people would be walking on the land as opposed to the boats. Also, it seems like the boats in the forefront are tied together with some kind of string. Seems like the location is in a warm weather location since they are not wearing coats or outer layers. You would automatically assume they are in a different country than the US because of the women's clothes or their skin color but since the US has plenty of immigrants, it made me think twice to assume that. But after thinking about the line of boats, I do think they are in a different country.
judging by how they appear, I believe these people are either indian or muslims. due to how tightly packed together the boats are, they may be walking on them instead of riding inside them. i don't think there's any water, either.
where are they going? I'm not sure. with no context, there isn't really a way, for me at least, to make an inference.

@Mrs. Allen's 2nd Grade has introduced a new idea for us to consider. They are thinking about these boats organized and structured as a bridge (as some of you have already suggested), but they are wondering...could this be in treetops as opposed to on the ground or water?

In this photo people connected a bunch of boats in India so they can make a passage way to the other side of a river. There are plants that grow in water around the boat. It is day time because the picture is light. The photo is in India because the people are wearing clothes that people from India usually wear.
We see people crossing a possible river on boats. They are using the boats as a bridge. They could be located in a part of Asia. We think this because of the people's clothing; specifically the women's colorful scarves and the little boy's short sleeved shirt and shorts. We think they are crossing because they need to get over the water.

The people are dressed in a way that make us think that this photo was not taken in the US. We also think it is a current photo based on the fact that it is in color and the clothing of the people.

@Grade 3 Rocks I agree with the points that you made in your comment. I had not previously considered how nicely dressed the people walking on the boats are. I think that they are walking on the boats to cross the plants easier.
The people in this picture are standing on boats. They seem to be trying to navigate their way through some plants. They may be moving somewhere else. They could also be transporting some items to a certain The plants seem to have very large leaves. There must be water underneath the plants in order for the boats to be able to move. This is probably somewhere in the Middle East. It is also taking place during the present because the clothing the people are wearing seems modern. It is also in a warmer climate because the little boy in the front has on shorts and a short sleeve shirt.

When you say, "There must be water underneath the plants in order for the boats to be able to move," you're thinking about what you don't see, but also bringing in prior knowledge about the function of boats. What do you see that makes you say these boats here are intended to move?
@VTS Moderator It is possible that the boats are stationary and are just creating a bridge for the people to walk across. However, I see large wooden sticks that they could be using to push the boats along.
In my opinion, I think these people in the photo are Indians.
Indian people are walking on stairs made out of boats in the forest on a lake. The reason that I think they are Indians is because of their skin color and the way they are dressed.

We think the boats were created to be used as stairs. We believe the people are in South Asia area or somewhere around those lines. We believe this because the women are wearing scarves with bright patterns. The group of men in the middle of the picture are definitely looking at something (maybe dangerous)

Like may of you, @Annelisse is considering where geographically this could be taking place and the type of action that may be happening. One of her ideas is that the boats could be functioning as a walkway or a bridge. In this way, where could they be going?
In this picture, there are a bunch of people standing on boats and seem to be walking across these boats. Since there is no road underneath the boats, this picture is taking place on a body of water. Judging based on the people, I believe this picture is taking place in a foreign country with very hot weather, possibly Cuba or other like. The woman shown have scarves wrapped around their heads also leaving me to believe that this is Cuba because of the religion aspect. There is only one child shown in the picture, a little boy, and he is leading his parents to what I would guess to be land. On either side of the boats, there is many plants growing rapidly. This climate must be suitable for the plants to grow. In the center, there are multiple men who appear to be stopped and looking at something, possibly a dangerous animal, like a aligator.
I think that this picture was taken of people is South Asia traveling to certain destinations by building a bridge made out of boats. I can tell that these people are all going their separate ways because the people are all walking in different directions. Additionally, the people must be from some foreign country like South Asia because of the clothing, the fact that the people were all traveling in a unique way, and the bamboo. Lastly, I assume that this picture represents the extremities people face to reach destinations, in contrast to how people in America travel.
i think there is a small river that is serounded by leaves and plants. and the river is filled with little boats. also there are people walking along the boats, probobly so they don't have to swim or something like that. i also think the people are hijab or arabian because of there clothing and prefrences.

This picture looks like it takes place in an Asian country. I assume this because of the traditional clothing and the people. This looks like maybe a walkway, although the things they are walking on look more like boats. Since there is nothing much around them besides the green plants, they may be going to go gardening. They could also be possibly crossing a border since this may not be a traditional way of getting somewhere. The land they are on is possibly something something like a swamp, so the plants around them are just covering the water. The boats could be there as their only way to cross, sort of a bridge, over the water. This picture looks fairly recent based off of the high definition quality.
It looks like these people are going through a canal or stream, brook, river, perhaps for a routine checkup, or maybe they are just looking to get through this canal. These people look as if to come from a hotter place in the world, perhaps from the Middle East or Africa. I'm leaning towards the idea of the Middle East, due to the woman wearing hijabs, however I can't shake the feeling that this may be a smaller 'river' that breaks off from the Nile River itself, So maybe it is somewhere in Egypt, where many people are Muslim (That would explain the hijab), and somewhere along the Nile (Where most of the population lies) Or perhaps this is somewhere in India, I have thought about that actually, but many of the rivers in India are VERY polluted and there is little clean water there that would provide goo for this type of greenery and plant growth. I don't even think the Cauvery River (An Indian river) would provide to plant such lush plants/crops sown in the picture.
So, getting back to the Routine checkup Idea, I think that the people in the picture may taking or 'curing'/'purifying' (As in cleaning) the plants, I don't see any bags or 'cleaning' items in the boats though, just strings and bags, so they might be collecting the crops, though it would be a small quantity compared to how many people are there.So maybe they are collecting, as opposed to cleaning. Though I still think that they are checking up on the plants.

We don't know if there is water under the boats or if the are using them to walk on because the green plant is dangerous. We see bamboo coming out of the green plants. To begin, I see a group of people walking across the array of boats. From this, I can conclude that they may be crossing a river or swampy area. February 24, 2020- This image is taken in South Asia. I think this because of the clothing and shawls on their heads. Additionally, I think there is something going on that cannot be seen in this picture. I think this because there is a group of men looking at something in the distance. The people are walking through a marsh and are trying to get to another area. I know this because they are using boats as bridges to travel and there are pieces of wood securing the bridge. That is why I think that the picture is set in South Asia, and they are traveling somewhere using boats like bridges.
The people in this photo used this path of boats to walk across a body of water. I know this because they have all the boats closed and in a line/pattern so they could walk across them. What is going on in this picture is a group of people are trying to get somewhere, but in order to get there, they must go through a path of boats. A reason they might be walking on these boats is that maybe the plants are dangerous and can hurt the human body by the touch of it. I believe this because I don't see anyone walking over the plant and also there is an abundance of that plant.
@Marco Martinez Honor Physics I never thought about the plants being dangerous, but that would make a lot of sense. They might be able to walk though the plants, but they wouldn't be able to do so without getting a rash or illness or some sort. That would explain the boats.

It is a picture of people crossing the tall plants by placing boats and creating a route to go through. The boats have flat surfaces and the people look like they are walking a certain direction. The poles are made of bamboo. It is interesting that used boats instead of getting rid of the plants. From what the girls are wearing, it could be assumed they are from somewhere in Asia.
@Sam- HPhysics You're right, it is definitely interesting that they are using bamboo and boats as a way of travel. Well, boats are used as a way of travel, but never just to walk on. I've never seen something like this in any other part of the world, but I've noticed that Asian countries often use bamboo the most.

I Notice that in the photo, there are people walking across a path of rowboats. they don't have fishing or farming equipment and they are of all different ages. the bottoms of the boats are also all boarded up and the people for going in different directions. because of this, I feel like these people are using an unusual form of bridges to cross a body of water. the clothing and bamboo poles make me think this is in Asia or India.

The people appear to be traveling through a path that is between the two large areas of plants. There are a lot of rowboats that are lined up that lead me to believe that is some type of path or stairway because the people appear to be moving up and down. The rowboats are also flat so it makes sense. I think it is somewhere like Indonesia because some of the people are not wearing shoes or shirts and there is some bamboo in the background.
I think that a man has fallen into an algae-covered river. Even though some people are wearing business clothes, meaning that they could be commuting and that there is a kid on the bridge, meaning that the bridge is used for several purposes, the bridge seems crowded, meaning that it is easy to fall. Near the back of the bridge, a man is crouching with his body partially off the bridge with a crowd watching, so a man could have possibly fallen into the river.
In this picture there are people walking across boats that are panelled to have a flat surface. Surrounding the boats is a lot of vegetation. There are sticks coming out from the vegetation that seem to provide some sort of support system to the boats. I think that these people are using the boats as a bridge to cross this vegetation. The fact that they are using boats makes me think that made there is some sort of water under all of the plants. Sort of like a bog. But not too much water because the sticks are still able to come far above the surface.
We have a few ideas about what is going on in this picture:
-I see boats and people and people walking with the boats, but there is no water. It is an educational nature trail walk in India.

There look to be a chain of boats that are all connecting with some kind of rope to form a kind of walkway for people. The people in the picture are Indian so the picture was taken somewhere in South Asia. There are women and children going along the pathway of boats so this says that the boats aren't for any work purposes. This walkway was probably built for people to walk across a lake or swamp area. There are also stone tiles in each boat for people to walk on without much trouble.
Because of the boats and plants in this picture, I think that there is a farming community photographed here. The plants are being grown in water since the people are walking on boats instead of on the ground.
