To the transplanted Midwesterners surprise there was neither a hot dish nor its cousin, the green bean casserole covered in funions.

It’s up to you, New York, New York...

Love this story!!

This makes me smile, deep down. I'm tempted to say "Only in New York" do people do this kind of stuff but I would love to believe that this can catch on elsewhere! We can't sit around and wait for the government to solve our problems....it's grassroots crazy wonderful actions like this can bring people together.

Who'd have thought the most Christian act of the holiday season would take place on a New York subway?
KS (NY)
Yum! Who says New Yorkers aren't helpful and friendly? A few million of us wish we were there.
AJ (Tennessee)
Good for them!! But, I'm more worried about how they kept the food hot for a long period of time. I guess the passengers were happy for a meal!!

Bravo!

I was born and raised in a NYC suburb and worked in the city for many years. Once you leave, you dont know how much you miss it until you read a story like this. Thanks so much!

I wish I had been there. It makes you philosophical -- you're really not supposed to do that, but well-executed, ingenious mischief can really have great social value; I just don't know what currency it gets paid in.
Bicoastal (Everywhere)
The currency is kindness, goodwill, and joy. The more we have of this the more ease we feel going through our day. I wasn’t there, but just reading about it gives me a little more cheer as I head to the subway.

I LOVE these stories....only in NY!

OH, I love New York. All the article misses is the recipes, and my husband wants one for macaroni pie. Happy Day!
