“The awards did make an effort to move country girls to the front.” Christopher - “GIRLS” - really? At a time when country music is at least making an effort to acknowledge women, you call Dolly Parton, Reba McIntyre and Carrie Underwood “girls”? And the other country women “girls” as well? Shame!

No offense to Garth, or to Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull, but giving the EOY award to Garth Brooks and skipping Lil Nas X sounds like the Grammy Awards giving the first heavy metal award to ... Jethro Tull over Metallica (and AC/DC)!

I feel the need to make a disclaimer before my comment: most of the music I love is written, performed, or heavily influenced by black musicians. I think it is fine that Lil Nas X wasn't featured - his inexplicably popular song is really terrible. One wonders if young people are repeatedly listening to it "ironically".

After last night's show, I am fully convinced the CMAs are fixed by the record labels. Garth Brooks as Entertainer of the Year AGAIN?! Why?! And why the need to have all these pop stars perform on "country's biggest night"? What a joke having all these actors from ABC network as presenters instead of actual country musicians. Opening medley and a few other performances aside, this show was embarrassing.

The moment that will linger for me is Willie Nelson mustering the will for his worn out body to perform, unable to play, barely able to sing, wistfully enjoying the moment on stage knowing he won't get many more. And Musgraves entering the stage in her radiant youth, reaching over gently as if to lend him strength before coming in with her part.

@DisplayName I loved that pairing. They hit a home run with that rendition.
