Get on TikTok and you'll see how common the long earring fad is. I also see it increasing on the college campus where I am a professor. I was socialized with very strict gender boundaries and I enjoy watching young people feel free to experiment. I don't see what the big deal is about this, other than people who are threatened by their own gender stereotypes. Young people today have much more freedom than people of my generation ever did. In an era of anger, it's nice to see a few positive forms of expression and experimentation.

Men aren’t, Max. A few entertainers have, again - and of course a few of us imitate. But basically, no; we’re not embracing it.
Anything else?

George Michael was doing this in the 90s, retro-fashion re-branded for the amnesiacs.
If you watch the Woodstock movie, Country Joe wore a big hoop earring.
Uhhh...... I'm a guy.....first time I wore a dangly earring from my right ear lobe was in November 1980 for mom's 50th birthday...... Nothing new here.
Why Men Are Embracing the Single Dangly Earring
They're not. A few, maybe. Most, not so much. Perhaps you could write a companion piece.
Why Aren't Most Men Embracing the Single Dangly Earring

Less is more when it comes to men and jewelry. Bling and earrings just look tacky. Always.
Guys, try wearing a single dangly earring to a job interview (I mean a real job, with a living wage, vacation, health benefits, career path, etc.) and see what happens.
Even if the earring goes well with your tats it will surely decrease your chances of being hired.

They really aren't.
They really won't.
But the fact that some folks think that we will is an undying source of amusement for dudes like me - so - thanks for that.
Um, yeah, this is far from a "thing" with men.

""When paired with traditional men’s garments, the single earring can “give a subversive edge to smarter looks,” said Nick Paget"
Same thing could be said about the 1980s. Single earrings aren't anything new to men. Even dangling ones.
I’ve long since admired the jewellery clad men of history, gloriously represented in the many paintings that hang in the hallowed halls of museums and galleries the world over. Never understood why that trend disappeared and love that the experimentation with it is returning. Whilst some say it’s “ridiculous”, I think it’s great - just look to history to see that many a great men thought so too. You don’t have to be female to participate!

Being overly tattooed is much worse. You can drop the earring but hideous tattooing is forever.

An article on men wearing dangly earrings...
I can think of few things in this world that I would consider more irrelevant. The fact that newspapers devote space to such tripe, absolutely boggles me.
"Really? But if you truly don't care, then why take the time to post a comment?", you might counter.
The answer is that I'm a dyed-in-the-wool misanthrope, and I find it exquisitely cathartic to tell you all how stupid your fads are.

Yuk! Give me a break. Why don't these guys just dress up like girls and be done with it?

I wore a one inch silver cross dangling from a two inch long silver chain back in 1985. I guess I was just a little early to the party.

Call me a dinosaur, but no man in my age group (over 60) is wearing a single, dangly earring. Not if he has any self-esteem.

@Linda Sperling ... is billionaire Michael Jordan close enough to 60 for you? O, wait, he suffers from ...self-worth!

Has anyone told these men they look ridiculous?
22
@Positively poor opinionated dithering American machismo is alive and well.

@Positively
Has anyone told women that they look ridiculous with fake colored hair, fake nails, fake hair extensions, fake colored lips, fake eyelash and eyebrow and eyelid coloring, layers of foundation and makeup, blingy and shiny jewelry (ears and elsewhere), contorting skin and body parts to accentuate breasts, exhibiting their camel toes, and other such ridiculous and superficial routines?

A couple of overly talked about "entertainers" do not constitute our entire gender. Believe me, "men" are not embracing the single dangling earring en masse.

@Hi Neighbor I do believe a point has been missed. As the fictitious character Merrill Streep played in Devil Wears Prada; the masses wear what we tell them to wear. So, just because you are not paying it any mind, plenty of others are. The actual movie line Streep delivered: "And you're also blithely unaware of the fact that in 2002, Oscar de la Renta did a collection of cerulean gowns, and then I think it was Yves Saint Laurent who showed cerulean military jackets, and then cerulean quickly shot up in the collections of eight different designers. And then it filtered down through department stores, and then trickled on down onto some tragic Casual Corner where you no doubt fished it out of some clearance bin. However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs, and it's sort of comical how you think you made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you're wearing a sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room from a pile of stuff."

Tell that to Charles I of England!
@Hi Neighbor Exactly; there’s a yawning gulf between “men [are doing something]”, and “a very few men, [worldwide, are doing something]”.
