It is really disheartening to see the poor civilians and kids of Syria caught up in the midst of this violent war.
1. Taking troops out of Syria effectively encourages Turkey to attack the Kurds in Syria. Turkey's president is not fond of the Kurds in his own country as well. These events make the U.S. Middle East policy incoherent because we are now backing Turkey and the Kurdish rebel group in Syria which will now be fighting.
2. Many Republicans and Democrats opposed this decision because it will embolden many other military forces in the area. Turkey, ISIS, Russia, and Iran will be emboldened to carry out their military goals.
So many Republicans and Democrats do not support the decision of Mr. Trump. Taking troops out of northeastern Syria So many Republicans and Democrats do not support the decision of Mr. Trump. Many different people believe that it was a big mistake to take troops off the border. It is a very gutsy call because the Kurds are some of the Unites States' most loyal and effective allies in the region. The people in government see this as a huge win for Syria and Isis, getting the US to withdraw from their territory. Whether you are a democrat or a republican, nobody believes that it was the right move to withdraw from the war in Syria. It is almost seen as a betrayal towards the Kurds. It will be interesting to see what President Trump decides to do with many people in government not backing his decision to pull troops out.
@Henry P I like this Henry. Thanks
I believe that Trump withdrawing troops from the Syrian Border has had a major impact of the Syrians. I believe this because of the responses Trump has had. The militia should be careful as to not upset anyone else and keep to themselves.
I think that trumps is trying to protect the country and make good decisions for everybody but its hard. Since Trump is surrounded by media it could be harder to think about what he wants to do and could misspeak or says something the wrong way. Personally I know I don't always take time to think about things and its hard to know how to rephrase things. Trump needs to protect allies so that they will have our back and we need to support them when their fight. I think there should be no wars or fights just peace but that is hard to come by. As president your responsible for everything and to make sure it's ok and they should talk to people with different viewpoints to expand his beliefs and challenge him and its Trump's job to listen. Usa should be as peaceful as possible.I think that trumps are trying to protect the country and make the right decisions for everybody but its hard. Many Republicans and Democrats are opposed to Trump's choice of withdrawing troops because of the repercussions that might occur. Some politicians are saying that it is a grave mistake and others are saying it's a betrayal of loyalty and an alliance to the kurds. By abandoning the Kurds, it leaves them vulnerable and gives ISIS an easy victory. Although Trump states that the troops placed in these territories are not beneficial, I believe they are, having the troops placed in these territories offer protection and possibly a future alliance.
Turkey's plans to interfere in Northern Syria have long been known and this shouldn't been a surprise to anyone that they were going to invade with such force. Looking at Syria, Turkey hasn't been very successful in their efforts to wage any significant influence in the nation. Given that and Turkey's lack of experience in the case of foreign intervention, I think it is fair to say that Turkey's time in Syria is limited as they face opposition from the Kurds, Syria, Shia Proxies, and other countries in the Middle East. Trump's withdrawal from Syria can be looked at in different ways. No matter how you view the situation or your love of defending the Kurds, foreign troops should not be in Syria anyways. We have no business in Syria or the rest of the Middle East. US intervention has far been for its own interest rather than defending allies. The Kurds were never a US ally to begin with. Many countries in the region and the US have used the Kurds over decades to help fight conflict and such. US withdrawal and Turkey's push for conflict were bound to happen and their was no avoiding it. I think most people even the Kurds want foreign troops especially the US out of the region. Does this change US policy? Not really. The US still remains on the same path it has always been and minor troop withdrawal from Syria is more of a political stunt to steer away from Trump's impeachment scandal. With this issue with the Kurds, only time will tell, so let's see how this plays out.
I feel like that the president is doing the right thing. Backing out troops is a good thing because there has been lots of american lives lost overseas do to political benefits that do help the american people and only help politicians.
@Louis i see where you are coming from but we as the united states are helping the country by staying :)
I do not support Mr. Trump's decision to withdraw troops from the Syrian border because by doing so, it gives Turkey's military the okay for the attack. If the Kurds have been an ally for us in the past, I believe we should be an ally for them. Withdrawing troops at this point is not being an ally to Kurdish forces and could cause more issues. ISIS may have calmed down for a bit, but there is no promise that they won't strike an attack on the U.S. again anytime soon because of this issue. In America, our safety and security should be our number one priority and I think withdrawing troops from the border will negatively impact our safety and security as a nation.
Personally I am for President Trump's decision. Anything that makes the government govern less is a good decision. I think this is a good step in the right direction.
I believe that it is important to bring home our troops but there is a downfall. If we were to bring home our troops then all the other countries would have a lot to deal with. So even though they should come home, I believe that it is safer to keep troops at the Syrian border and not allow the green light in Turkey. After watching the video and learning more about the topic, I find that the leader of Turkey crazy to believe that sending chemical weapons onto his own people is the right thing to do to contain them. So overall, I believe that we should keep our troops at the borders.
I think that Mr. Trump's thoughts on taking the troops out of Turkey is a good idea in general, but the way he showed people he wanted to do it was immature. The thought of taking people out of war has never been a bad idea but some countries need help and that it what they should be getting from the USA.
While ISIS still may be hanging on by a thread, satellite imagery proves that their regime as dissipated immensely, and is it really worth kepping U.S. troops' lives on the line for a minimal threat? If a tooth is very loose, let it fall out. Don't forcefully pull it out, as it may bleed profusely. The same concept applies here. ISIS is weak. Let them shrivel up and fall apart on their own, not at the expense of our military. Nonetheless, America will likely continue airstrikes, just not necessarily boots on the ground. With regards Turkey-Syria conflict, although a rocky road, America has had ties with their Turkish allies for years. On the other hand, Syrian Kurds merely assisted in ISIS battles for their own self-interest. In fact, as your video explained, America still clashed with Kurds amidst the conflict with ISIS. There is no reason to back a loose-knit "military" against one of our strong ally.
I disagree with what President Trump is doing because it says in the published article that the Kurdish allies are very loyal to the United States and are trusted. If that's the case, withdrawing troops from that area makes all of the United States look bad as Turkey is sending troops into Syria with airstrikes. Trump said if anything he dislikes occurs then he will take action, but I feel as if it could be too late by the time he makes a decision. This has a chance of putting all of the United States in jeopardy and gets the people to worry about a possible threat.
Both Republicans and Democrats are opposed to Trump's decision to withdraw troops from Syria and abandon the Kurds. The Kurds have been some of America's most useful and trustworthy allies in that area and taking troops out would help some of our worst enemies like ISIS. The Kurds have helped us a lot in our fight against ISIS and we should not just leave them stranded to die. They had our back, so we should have theirs because that is how an alliance works. Trump's goal is to get out of out overseas wars and believes that he should do whatever is necessary, but I do not believe this is exactly appropriate and ethical.
I like what Ronan is saying. You're stating some key facts and people need to read this.
I believe that the USA should keep its troops in the middle east to prevent a possible war breaking out with Turkey. Although I agree with the fact that we are spending too much money being the hero everywhere, the middle east is a whole different situation. Over the last few decades, the middle east has become a melting pot and at some point especially after the Syria crisis a few months ago, that pot is bound to over flow soon. It's also important to keep troops near Syria and Turkey to protect the Kurds. The Kurds are a minority that has been oppressed over the last few decades and it's clear Turkey wants them out of their country. If the USA doesn't step in and keep their troops, Turkey might go down the path of mass killings of Kurdish people. As crazy as that may sound, it's happened before in 1915 with the Armenian Genocide. With Turkey looking to start a war, it's crucial the USA stays in the middle east until this starts to simmer down. I do not support Mr. Trump's decision to withdraw troops from the Syrian border and greenlight Turkey's military operation. It was a military move that did not need to be made and it seems as though it was more than just military operations, it seemed politically driven. The Kurds were a critical part in outing ISIS and the United States should not turn their backs on them. The Turkish government hasn't always been peaceful and are not our most trusted allies so we shouldn't put their wants over what is right. The withdraw of troops is a coward move that disrespects an unofficial ally of the U.S.
