“...it’s hard to imagine New England putting in enough effort against such a lowly opponent...”
Earth to the pro football “writer” at the Times: why do you think Bill Belichick has won six Super Bowl titles and has narrowly lost three? Answer: “Do Your Job.” As far as the coach is concerned, Sunday is a job. That tomorrow’s game is against the Washington team (I never refer to their racist “nickname”) matters not at all. The road venue is unimportant.
Yes, last Sunday, Tom Brady was awful and his performance would seem to have defensive coordinators thinking that the playing field has finally leveled off to where the Patriots are now left to lean on a ferocious defense while holding their breath on XP’s and field goal attempts. The Super Bowl champions (New England Patriots) are the masters of making the adjustment between games. OL coach Dante Scarnecchia will have his guys ready. And Brady will return with his death stare at a defense that can’t stop a high school team. That a poor NFL franchise (that includes ownership—Daniel Snyder; coaching—Jay Gruden; and off-the-Street players) will not inspire the Patriots’ best is absurd.
