Our knowledge of the anglerfish is growing, but is still limited due to the fact the fish’s natural habitat is miles deep in the ocean. The anglerfish has learned to “walk” on the sea floor, because it makes it easier for the fish to sneak up on its prey. It was recently learned that the male fish permanently latches on to the female fish and becomes a sperm donor for the rest of his life.
It is amazing how little we actually know about wildlife. We seems like we have just scratched the tip of the iceberg in our understanding of the animal and plant kingdom. There are endless species which are each as unique as the anglerfish. There are still large parts of the oceans yet to be explored.
Technology is rapidly evolving and will help us learn more about wildlife than we would have thought to be possible just a few years ago. I’m sure there will be more interesting discoveries to come about the ghoulish fish to come with advancement of technology.
I think it is fascinating that these fish can make their own light. Bioluminescent lures are cool all on their on but attach that to a fish so it can fish? Beyond amazing. But because they live so deep down in the ocean we rarely see a dead one wash up or see them in general. But now with new technology coming out, we are getting more and more glimpses of what these fish do, eat, and how they reproduce. Ted Pietsch is a deep sea fish researcher at Uni of Washington in Seattle and he says he has never seen anything like how they reproduce and he’s been studying these animals for most of his life! I can’t wait to see what else we can son find out about these fascinating creatures.
I am so fascinated by this article I want to be a marine biologist and I think it is so amazing how these animals survive. I want to know how they know what to eat. It might be a posion and if it is why don't they eat it and why do they swimming packs and how do they know when to swim in packs it's the small thing and how do they digest their food.
