Very affected. With all of the, almost, too much great content out there, this doesn’t rank. Three episodes— bypassing.

I think you mean "masculine affect" not "effect"

Doesn't come up on HBO now?

Every time I think it's time for me to cancel my (very expensive) HBO subscription (I thought the end of Game of Thrones was good timing), they come out with something else. Maybe after 'Gentleman Jack'.

@liza49 I'll wait for the pirated or legal free edition...or watch at a friends house where there may be cable.

Ooh! Looking forward to this. I was familiar with Anne Lister's story from the Emma Donoghue play "I Know My Own Heart."

A good show is a good show and beauty in drama is, well, beautiful. No one can do drama better that the English, perhaps the ancient Greeks.
J.Sutton (San Francisco)
Yes, the ancient Greeks invented drama, after all. And they haven’t been surpassed.

Suranne Jones is an intoxicating talent - can't wait to see her performance !

I might eventually watch this show and not because of the NYT review. I like a well written drama/comedy depicting a 19th century lesbian who leads a roguish life.

Love it. Can't wait to watch as well.

What a refreshing view of the morays of the time and yet a groundbreaking story of a woman owning the right to be equal. I can't wait to watch!
