Volunteer Fire Department would have been a good place for the reporter to obtain worthwhile quotes and commentary about the town. Just plain more information about the full time local residents not employed by the hospital would have been great.

How do you write a piece about Sharon and fail to mention Lime Rock Park?!
DavePo (Connecticut)
@Ralph Lime Rock is in Lakeville, a village in Salisbury - nearby, but not in Sharon.

Lovely article about a lovely town but couldn't help noticing that the first picture is of the covered bridge in Cornwall, not Sharon. As a weekender with a house in Cornwall, perhaps your next article can be about our wonderful town and community.
Jude (Sharon)
@CornwalCT The covered bridge is technically in Sharon.

One shudders at the mere thought of any essay about Sharon (especially these pedestrian writings) without even a mention of it’s favorite son; William F. Buckley, Jr. The author is undoubtedly direct lineage to Gore Vidal, pornographer. Thanks and Regards, NJB, Jr.
Stephen Feld (NYC)
@Ned Bell Only a small-minded, literarily I’ll-informed homophobe would call Gore Vida a pornographer.
Stephen Feld (NYC)
Obviously I meant Gore Vidal.

Fine town, exactly as described. But don't get sick: Sharon Hospital is one of the worst in the state.

@Connecticut Yankee I'm not sure what led you to that opinion, I but my experience at Sharon Hospital couldn't have been better. After a nasty fall this winter that tore apart the ligaments in my knee Dr. Clark and his great support team put me back together and now I am up about and on the road to complete recovery. I can't say enough about how knowledgable and caring the doctors and staff Sharon Hospital are!
DavePo (Connecticut)
@Connecticut Yankee Is your assessment backed by statistics?

I mentioned this in a different article about second homes....the Northwest corner of CT is the place to go. Relaxing, with beautiful scenery and pockets of real culture. If Sharon is too pricey, consider Norfolk and Colebrook (same beauty, better value)...we had a great place up there that I still miss. The summer music festivals from the Yale music students who take up residency for the season are beyond charming.

It's a lovely town, and this was a nice article - but I can't see a recommendation to fish the Housatonic river without warning buyers (and residents) that you can't eat most of what you fish: The river is still polluted with PCB's from a plant upstream in Massachusetts. You'll see signs warning of that on some of the major bridges. Thanks, GE!

The Salisbury school is also close by
David (Brooklyn)
@J Mitchell And let us not forget South Kent!
LME (Pittsburgh)
@J Mitchell On behalf of my brother, a Salisbury grad, thanks for mentioning, and, when I saw the list of schools, the first thing I noted was Salisbury's omission!

Having purchased our home in Sharon just under two years ago, we couldn't be happier with the town, the people, the rolling hills, and the sheer beauty of the place. Sharon has become such a welcome respite on weekends (and long weekends) from the frenetic pace of Manhattan (which we also love, but love getting away from for a bit!).
