How Hard Will It Be for the Red Sox to Repeat? Ask the Astros

I am an Astros man. But, it is still hard getting used to the fact that they play in a League with DH. I wish they could switch but it ain't gonna happen. I wish Tyler had said a little more about Alex Bregman - who is not happy with his raise of half a million. I am waiting to see NYT predictions for this season. The other story Tyler wrote on NL - but lacks a comment section. One question : that photo of Buhler at the the Dodgers ball park - an outstanding. But what was Buhler doing out in the left field and throwing a ball into the stands. But the photo - quite incredible.

I am a Red Sox fan. Starting pitchers are somewhat out of fashion. But I thought the Yankees' starters hurt them last year. Cashman has added depth to the rotation, where it was needed the most. The Yankess, of course, have all the hitting they could want. And Tulowitzki should be a big fielding asset. Rather than go with the big names, Cashman filled the big needs. It pains me to say this, but I think the Yankees are the best team in baseball.

AL East should be really entertaining. Looking forward to the season!

Ummmm The Red Sox lost their closer and a setup man. I’d hardly say that’s coming back with all the major pieces from last year.

As a long time fan of the Blue Jays there is little reason for optimism. The team is composed of many players who are not of major league caliber. Their pitching is suspect. Their hitting is mediocre. Time to shout: Go Raptors! Go Leafs!

Enough of the Red Sox already. The Yankees very much need to restore order. Make room in the trophy case for #28

"Unless the Yankees reach the World Series this year, the 2010s will be their first decade since the 1910s without at least one A.L. pennant." Sorry, no. There are 10 years in a decade. The decade of the 2010s began at the beginning of 2011 and doesn't come to a close until the end of 2020. So the Yanks have two more seasons to win the pennant in this decade.

@Ed So when I turned 30 I was still in my 20s? Wow.
zozo (Jersey City, NJ)
@Eric. No, when you turned 30, you completed thirty years of life, lucky fellow! What Ed is saying is, when we complete a decade, we complete it's tenth year. Therefore, When the "20-teens" is completed, we will enter the year, 2021. You see, most people, when they begin to count something, start with, "one."

Thank you, as always, Mr. Kepner. I only wish my Royals have given you a little more to work with, but you summed up their prospects neatly. Baseball’s opener is almost perfectly timed with the advent of spring, and I do feel reborn every year (63 and counting) on opening day. Apologies to the A’s and Mariners who only think they played the 2019 season opener. Thursday can’t come soon enough.

MLB really dilutes the prestige of the "World Series" by holding it year after year, usually with different teams. Just do it once for all the marbles.
Unbalanced (San Francisco)
@EricThat’s absurd. The World Series needs to be played annually. But to be truly “World,” the best team from Earth should play the best from from another world. The ratings for say your Yankees vs Uranus would be sky high.
zozo (Jersey City, NJ)
@Unbalanced You're both crazy! The World Series should not be confused with The Universe Series!!!! The latter of the two will not be played every year because, in some cases, it will take a team 20 or 30 years to reach the venue.
