Whatever Trump says about his enemies you can bet he believes about himself.

Stephen Colbert is brilliant, brutally funny, and you can laugh and learn something each time you tune in to his Late Show. Colbert specializes in speaking truth to power with sharp wit and intelligence. Trump is a dream come true for all these comedians. Good antidote to all things going on in the world.

Colbert's opening monologue for Tuesday, March 5, 2019,
was truly BRILLIANT.

All I can say is HELP! As Trump and his entourage flip the bird at the American public. As my sainted mother would say, "anyone in their right mind can see the truth." Trump is a psychopath, his sycophantic enablers just one step away from that. I get angry knowing that Trump's band of sleazebags is and evil crime family who will escape Justice.
The fact that 40% of the population loves this incarnation of Caligula is almost too much to bear.
I think about moving to another country and my heart is heavy. Unlike many of my fellow countrymen I can afford to check out, but I love my country - flaws and all. The list of misdeeds goes on and on from putting children in cages to pay-for-play with the Saudis. He embraces dictators because those countries are the places where he will be building the next group of Trump Towers.
I pray every day that Robert Mueller has the real goods on these barracudas and I'm thankful that we have a first amendment allowing comedic talent to call him out and make him look ridiculous. This "show" is scary. The only happy ending is an orange jumpsuit for Mr. trump and matching ones for Jared and Ivanka.

Basically, I feel the same as you described , it’s depressing to say the less.
20
I think it is a well established by now that whatever Trump says the opposite is true.
Accordingly, if Trump says "No administration has accomplished [more]" it actually means no administration has accomplished less. If Trump says, "Democrats had gone stone cold CRAZY", it means Trump is stone cold Crazy. If Trump says, "the only Collusion with Russia was done by Crooked Hillary Clinton & the Democrats", then it means the only collusion with Russia was done by Trump. And if Trump says, "[The Democrats] won’t get ANYTHING done for our Country", it means Trump won't get anything done for the Country.
What we also know about Trump is anything he refuses to talk about is also true. So the fact he refuses to talk about the record number of his administration and close associates who have plead guilty; are under indictment; being investigated; or resigned due to criminal acts related to Trump means everything they are accused of is true.
You see, figuring out was is true when it comes to Trump really isn't that hard after all: If his lips are moving Trump is lying and if they aren't moving he's lying.

I am so grateful for these late night hosts. That they can find the humor and the irony in these times really lifts my spirits at the end of another “unprecedented” day of insanity. I think Trump is providing them with enough material for the entirety of their working lives. He’s a treasure trove of ridiculousness. As time goes on, Colbert's and Seth Meyers’ impressions get better and better. Keep it up, guys. Sometimes you’re giving us more information than all the cable pundits put together, and in a much more palatable form!
69
If these investigations are so-called "witch-hunts", they're sure finding lots of witches. The GOP Benghazi investigation went on for 4 years! ... with no indictments and no counts ... Mueller hasn't even 2 years yet, and already with 37 indictments and 199 counts and several in trump’s inner circle charged and in prison and undoubtedly more to come.
64
Meanwhile back at the ranch in the US the EPA is being gutted, the CFPB is being dismantled, Dodd–Frank is being compromised, the deficit is going through the roof, huge chunks of public lands are being sold off, world free trade is being seriously assailed, the justice department is being revamped with a slew of GOP biased judicial appointees, and all while the FBI is being disemboweled.
71
@John Townsend
Other than collusion with despots, these acts represent high treason, if not by any standard definition. Dismantling a democracy that took hundreds of years to advance to where we were in 2016 (with plenty left to improve) will be Trump's greatest legacy--with the enthusiastic collusion of the G.O.P. In this he is "doing a great job."
34
And you're still calling them a Grand Old Party! Fun-nee!

For two years, the GOP constantly investigated Hillary's smallest move. They found nothing. No indictments, no pleading guilty, no jail, nothing.
Trump nevertheless promised his supporters to reopen investigations, AND to get her in prison.
Like with most of his other campaign promises (the wall, having Mexico paying for it, repealing and replacing Obamacare, withdrawing from NATO, changing NAFTA, passing a trillion dollar infrastructure plan to get airports as good as those in the Middle East, deporting 11 million illegal aliens, etc.) he didn't even START focusing on them - let alone having achieved something.
Instead, his own DOJ is jailing his closest collaborators. THAT, we at least should admit, is quite an "achievement".
So why does he continue to regularly tweet about "crooked Hillary"?
Because selling his brand is all that he's good at, and as his supporters are as easily distracted as he himself, no real focus on policy issues is actually required to keep their support. Simply repeating his campaign slogans over and over again is all that his supporters ask him to do.
And THAT, of course, is quite an achievement too. Trump "didn't build that" though. It's two decades of Fox News that created this massive distraction strategy, spreading fake news 24/7. All that Trump has to do to maintain the support of his voters is to spend half of his day copy-pasting and improvising on the Fox News lines of the day. Then he can go back to golfing or eating hamburgers.

What was that word Trump was mouthing when embracing the flag? Was it Mama?

"“No administration has accomplished — probably you could say this with absolute surety — in the first two years anywhere near what we’ve accomplished,” Trump asserted."
You can PROBABLY say this with ABSOLUTE surety?
Don't they have any math classes at Wharton University?
Absolute surety, of course, means 100% surety. Only when there's no absolute certainty do you have to talk about a specific degree of "probability" ...
So what is it? Is Trump absolutely certain that no administration accomplished more in two years than his?
That would mean that he imagines that no administration ever managed to get more than one major piece of legislation signed into law during the first two years of an incoming president whose party controls DC.
You don't have to be a student of history to know with "absolute certainty" that that's false. Obama signed TWO major pieces of legislation into law during his first two years in office: the Recovery Act (which turned around a -8% GDP and created (as predicted by the CBO analysis at the time) a decade-long steady GDP and job growth), and Obamacare (which insured 20 million more Americans and saves an additional half a million American lives a decade).
Needless to add that compared to the very content of Obama's two bills, the one that Trump signed into law looks quite meager: a deficit-doubling, huge tax cuts for people like Trump and his millionaire cabinet.
Seeing Trump talking means seeing him distort the truth as much as his spine.
39
PS: there do is one area in which Trump surpassed at least his last two predecessors: executive orders.
He currently already signed twice as many EOs as Obama during his first two years - and Obama signed less EOs than G.W. Bush, but Trump is already outpacing Bush too.
The only problem is that for a decade already, Trump heavily criticized using EOs as president ... so you can affirm with "absolute certainty" that when he talked about "achieving" things in a positive way, he necessarily wasn't referring to his EOs at all ...

Trump:
He enforced President Barack Obama’s red line against Syria’s use of chemical weapons.
He has taken a surprisingly tough line with Russia. Trump approved a $47 million arms package for Ukraine, sent troops to Poland’s border with Russia and imposed new sanctions on Moscow for violating the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty.
He recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Four American presidents promised to do it, but only one actually did.
He withdrew from the Paris climate agreement.
He got NATO allies to kick in $12 billion more toward our collective security.
He has virtually eliminated the Islamic State’s physical caliphate. Trump removed the constraints Obama placed on our military.
He enacted historic tax and regulatory reform that has unleashed economic growth. Trump removed the wet blanket of Obama-era regulations smothering our economy. We are now heading into our third consecutive quarter of above 3 percent growth.
He has brought North Korea to the bargaining table to eliminate their nuclear weapons making the world a safer place.
He made it easier to fire poor-performing federal government workers.
We now have history low levels of unemployment among blacks and Hispanics.
He successfully renegotiated NAFTA with Canada and Mexico.
He signed the bill for prison reform. Something both Clinton and Obama failed at.
Jobless claims hit 202,000 in September, which was the lowest level since December 1969.
There is a lot more but space limits..

@George Orwell
Where to start here ... ?
1. He didn't. He just bombed some non-strategical places in Syria, and made sure to WARN the Syrian government ( Putin's ally) before the bombing, so that the damage would be almost zero. Which is, of course, why Syria continued to use chemical weapons, including after the bombings. At least Obama managed to get most of its chemical weapons out of the country ...
2. In real life, it's the GOP that continued traditional US policy against Trump. Trump was forced to sign onto it, all while being on the record for first opposing it.
3. He said he WILL withdraw the US from the Paris climate agreement. The US can only do so in real life in 2020, remember?
4. NATO simply did what Obama told them to do and they agreed upon doing before Trump came in. Check it out and you'll see. At the same time, Trump's constant verbal attacks on NATO are weakening the alliance, which is exactly what Putin wants.
5. The strategy that got rid of the caliphate was designed by Obama. Trump didn't change ANYTHING about it.
6. There is NO Trump dent visible in GDP graphs AT ALL. So as all studies have shown, his tax cuts didn't structurally change the economy at all - all while doubling the deficit, whereas Obama cut it by 2/3.
7. North Korea CONTINUES to produce nuclear weapons as before. NO achievement AT ALL here.
8. There is NO unemployment rate dent at all, since Trump took office.
9. He merely took over the Obama NAFTA deal.
Etc.

Too bad Hillary isn't running again as the current legitimate president. That would really get under the orange one's skin. If Venezuela can have two presidents - one legitimate, the other not - why can't we?
Indeed, Hillary should run as a sacrificial candidate on the Mueller Report platform that would siphon off trump's stamina and attacks away from the real Democratic candidates. Now that would be funny!
13
It doesn’t get much richer than Trump calling someone else crazy.
He’s nothing if not predictable: this is yet more Trumpian projection.
I would wonder if he’s belatedly realized he’s completely unhinged but he’s the least self-aware person on the planet. A deluded narcissist.
36
It's not easy to satirize someone who is so totally unhinged and purposefully divorced from reality. But for the sake of the electorate, I would encourage Stephen to stop holding back, and give us the full, unvarnished, foaming-at-the-mouth version of our dear leader. We only seek the truth.
62
I like his GOP/Trump bashing . Keep it coming daily and I am sure it is hurting the Republican Party for votes. They are anti life the GOP and that needs to be brought out. They get us into 1000 year wars in the Middle East, brought coal and fossil fuels back to destroy our water and air supplies and destroyed our Affordable health care plan. Today an oil tanker is leaking millions of gallons of oil into the Pacific Ocean which will be another ecological disaster. Blame it on Trump and his support of oil and coal.
57
@D.j.j.k.
Sure. Agreed. But "trump" didn't "brought coal and fossil fuels back", it just never left and he's just making sure it never does, for now, until he's ousted. So, sure, blame him, but also blame all the people that still are driving and buying gas-burning cars and heating their houses with oil, etc., etc. We are all to blame.
