Sexual harassment? These guys got it all wrong. They thought they were working at the statehouse.....
Just because you are good at earning money doesn’t make you a great leader
Weak leadership and greed are the defining characteristics of America’s
Failings this century

*The* topic of the year has been the outlandish treatment of women by the powerful, and here, the progressive leadership of a progressive northeastern state is full of a bunch of lawyers whose best excuse is "I didn't know" ?
If they had any decency whatsoever, they would all resign, including Mr. Murphy himself.

"The appearance of impropriety" is still the best standard to apply in all situations of public service.
If any of them has simply asked "What would the public think if they knew what we know?" they'd have seen to the accused being let go asap.
Now we have to wonder' did the Gov know? or are they seeking to undermine him or have stuff over him?

Why were charges never filed?

If Cammarano is telling the truth, Murphy may not have known about Alvarez. That's a big if. If Murphy did not know, he cannot be expected to have acted. If he did know, then his inaction is indefensible.

He would still be hiring people because he didn't now the identity of his accuser? This could only work if there were multiple accusers and victims.
@Bradley Bleck You've (conveniently?) left out the obvious answer which is that the "attack" never happened. That's why didn't know the identity of his accuser - because the whole thing was bogus. I'm not saying that's true but it's the obvious answer.
@Ross Salinger Sure, and you know this because how? Because the reporting provides no indication she was disbelieved. But then, I guess all women just like to make up these stories because it makes their lives so much better? I'm going to say you've got some myopic blinders on.
Once again we see the stark difference between the government and the private sector. If this situation happened on the watch of a private industry CEO, with this same testimony, He/She and their staff would be out and they should be. Wheres #MeToo now?

@JMC
Please tell me your comment is a joke, right?
Les Moonves - years & years before things caught up to him. Weinstein - DECADES before things came out.
Murphy - this year, unless you're living in a time warp.

@JMC
So how has that worked out for Les Moonves, whom CBS only reluctantly let go after word publicly got out and will get a brilliant severance package, Harry Weinstein, whose chief lawyer has had several charges dismissed in New York courts, several celebrity chefs in major cities around the world, professors at private colleges, teachers in swanky boarding schools, etc.?
If anything, #MeToo has thus far been a mixed bag...

@JMC
Once again we see a conservative ideologue repeating a conservative "principle" despite overwhelming evidence it's false.
Another case of the government treating the political fallout as the casualty in a sexual assault case, rather than this official's well-being.

Disgusting. Everyone knew everything, for months, right to the very top -- the Governor. And everyone who knew or should have known to immediately report, to help this woman, prevaricated, looked the other way, hoped she and this claim would disappear. Yes, darned right there should be a BIG, messy, ugly "political fallout" for every staff member and elected public official caught protecting their precious career, their position, their sinecure. And shame that this lady had to go before a committee, in public, with all those people in the room behind her, to tell her story of sexual assault. No better than Trump and his crew.

Cammarano is falling on the sword because he has already stated he is leaving the Administration. Braz is clearly unqualified to be in the position he is in, he embarrassed himself with his testimony. He said he "trusted the process," but when questioned as to what the process was, his response was that he did not know. A Deputy Chief of Staff did not know what the process would be, and still does not know what it is. Stumping for Murphy really paid off.
18
Some how full disclosure never occurs to these people and they always make a bad situation, worse.
16
Note to Murphy. Hire an on-staff ethics attorney full time, one with government experience to protect the state. There are many out of work these days....

Mr. Murphy appears to be incapable of administering a government staff. He is basically a Wall Streeter who used his money to buy an election much the same as Jon Corzine another out of state rich guy. NJ sadly has had terrible state government the past 20 years. This incident coupled with the new federal tax change on property tax deductions equals a failed state government.
