Indeed, I join others in complimenting on a wonderful story - great photos. Of 194 countries or so - represented at UN - to have less than a dozen - tells you what these other diplomats are doing at that hour. Sleeping after a night of cocktails and dinners - all paid by their tax payers.

So when they are not running they are not equals?

There is nothing I miss more about living in New York City than running in Central Park. It is a true equalizer. I always wondered about the faces huffing past me, imagining them as important executives, renowned artists, or just regular students like me. It doesn't matter in the park - we are all there to enjoy the exercise, nature, and cathartic benefits.

Love this! Quick question, though, the frequency of their runs is only alluded to once ("weekly"), so they run once a week throughout the year, or? Just curious, as a runner myself

Great story. I took up running in my 50’s after a youth in competitive sports. I can’t play basketball with the pros but I can run an event with elite runners. Running is a personal experience that can be shared in a group setting without regard for gender, age or status. Keep running!

some good news!! There is still hope for the world..

Interesting that apparently nobody from the U.S. contingent joins a group engaging in mutually supportive physical fitness. Yet somehow not surprising.

Excellent article. Thanks for sharing this lighthearted yet meaningful piece.

Reading this article reminds me of John McCain, and working for inclusion and relationships among groups.

All my "friends" at work are folks who I met through running. You work on different projects, meet new coworkers, somehow they don't always manage to become friends. With running, it's different. Maybe it's the shared suffering OR the lifelong commitment to it. And the running friends network spans different departments & backgrounds. The best network in many ways.

A model for how everyone should get along in the world, down to staying behind to accompany the slowest runner. Maybe we should all take up jogging (or walking) together in the early morning hours. Do us all a world of good.
