Sedaris is relatable and very funny. He’s the antithesis (according to me, and in a good way) to Peter Sagel who he shared the NYT section with today. I don’t want him to pass, but think what he believes his legacy will be hysterical for generations.

Autocorrect ruined my post

I love you, David Sedaris. I never laugh (I mean guffaws!) so hard as when I read one of your books, and I've read them all. Calypso made me laugh and cry. I await your next one. I'm looking forward to the book you'll write one day about what it's like to get old and decrepit Now that would be a masterpiece!

As good as his books are, his live shows are better. The voice, the attitude, the timing. *****

When Intook comp lit in college I wish he had been on the reading list instead of Proust!

The man is a national treasure but his treasures at....Yale. Ugh. As his ( hilarious) comment indicates this just seems wrong. Oh well. Best news here is another collection of his diaries seems on the way. Merry Christmas!

If only these personal papers had been donated, rather than sold, to an institution, whether it be Yale, the NYPL, the Rosenbach or some other research organization. Where is literary altruism?
Chris (San Diego)
@MarieH Yale has a $29 billion endowment. They'll be fine.
K Henderson (NYC)
"Where is literary altruism?" What does that phrase even mean?

Forever entwined with Twain, wow! Congratulations Mr. Sedaris

You can always tell when someone is reading a David Sedaris book on an airplane by the sudden loud and spontaneous outbursts of laughter. If Mr. Sedaris couldn’t get into Yale, I’m glad his archives did!

@J. Lipp - At a book signing I held up the line talking to Mr. Sedaris about how listening to one of his Christmas stories on CD while driving on a snowy highway I literally almost slid into a ditch I was laughing so hard.
