For a Buck and Sometimes a Buzz, Brewers Are Putting Cannabis Into Cans

The taste for alcoholic drinks and its diverse health consequences when taken to excess (addiction) are well known. There are rules. Age limits. And restrictions. No driving under the influence. And no promotion that it is an elixir. (The Bourbon industry notable for its 'liberty'.) That marijuana, cannabis, hemp etc. devote have a grudge for past legal restrictions on their elixir (so it is hailed for its list of medical properties) is understandable. That it would rely on comparisons with other market products meant to yield 'highs' is also understandable. Ignored, is that claims that alcohol, tobacco, nicotine are beneficial for one's physical health are off limits. For limits there are license and tax rules. There is nothing responsible in Paul Schindler's comment. No notice for a legitimate public concern. And a public that becomes bent on living 'high' should be of concern.

@Wolfgang Price Grade school research on CBD would be helpful for you.

@Wolfgang Price---"And a public that becomes bent on living 'high' should be of concern." Perhaps. As should be a government intent on restricting ones free choices.

"“We think the drinker and the cannabis consumer are the same person,” Mr. Bensch said. “There’s no reason they can’t smoke a joint and drink a beer at the same time.”" The first sentence may or may not be true, but the second sentence is frightening. Too many young drinkers have no idea about their capacity and trouble arise. Getting high puts life in a whole new perspective. A couple of beers with friends is one thing but adding joints to the mix is dangerous. I would suggest treading very carefully with "joint" beer.

@Cone Smoking a couple hits with friends is one thing but adding beer to the mix is dangerous. Cannabis has medicinal properties, alcohol kills.

@Mark Tele---Moderation! Alcohol kills when used in excess, perhaps. When consumed moderately, it's relatively benign.

Not a good idea. Either you get stoned first or have a couple of beers first but not at the same.

This has got to taste disgusting. People mostly drink beer for the taste, not to get high. This move throws all claims as to decorum and redeeming social value out the window.

@MIKEinNYC---People drink beer for a variety of reasons, I would guess, but the alcoholic affect is absolutely part of the appeal for the...couple two, three beer drinkers that I know.

"“We think the drinker and the cannabis consumer are the same person,”" Mr. Bensch is exactly right. One of the many lies in the hundred year government war against pot was that is a "gateway" drug. This conveniently overlooked the FACT that alcohol is not only a drug, it is in fact a far more dangerous drug than pot. It is actually deadly and potentially very physically addictive. Yet most people drank alcohol before trying pot. Fortunately, things are changing quickly, as we see in this excellent article. People now know that pot is basically "life enhancing", and has many medically beneficial attributes. The American war on pot, still raging in many parts of America, is based on total lies. It is the worst mass injustice since slavery, with millions of people being jailed, criminalized, had property seized, denied employment, etc. etc. We need to correct this quickly and put our valuable law enforce resources to work on real problems. We promote alcohol drug use in America with billions of dollars in advertising. Great bars are treated like religious shrines. It's way past time to stop this hideous charade with alcohol and face the facts - Americans, and people everywhere, like drugs - with alcohol being the most popular DRUG.

California Reminds Industry: State Will Not Allow Cannabis-Infused Alcoholic Beverages

@Paul Shindler Alcohol is far more dangerous than Canabis

@Larry Name one state that does allow distillers and brewers to add cannabis? All based on a position of ignorance about the fundamental difference between marijuana and hemp (THC v CBD). Prepare yourself for passage of the Farm Bill. CBD will be added to countless foods and beverages by large producers, human and pet, in the next two years. And research projects will flourish and produce staggering conclusions about the myriad potential benefits of CBD - with overdose an impossibility. The irony is that alcohol should be kept from cannabis, not the other way around.
