With all that is happening in the world involving The Kingdom, I find the idea that they killed themselves the least likely possibility. Besides which, they had no trauma that would have resulted from jumping off the GW, so they just walked into the water and ended up where they did? Not likely. I hope Luis and Ashley keep on this story like dogs with a bone.

To Luis & Ashley - please provide follow up articles as more information becomes available. Too often stories don't get followed up.
Thanks.

Valid point , as people suspect there might be a much bigger story behind it.

Suicide?? They taped their own ankles and wrists together and jumped in the river?? That's the first thing that comes to mind??.
This has frustratingly few details.
That they requested asylum together suggests that they felt unsafe with family -- and that they were at risk once the family knew of that application. An application which would bring public dishonor...

@cheryl Duck tape was at waist and ankles. Does not say that arms or wrists were bound. Nevertheless, an unusual scenario.

If these two sisters were commonly reported missing (which sounds like this is the case) then you have to ask why? Given what we know about Saudi Arabia and their treatment of women, it is no surprise these women were likely trying to get away from a very unhappy living situation - children or young adults don't disappear just for kicks. What a sad ending. . .

"We do not know that a crime took place."
So, there's a possibility - no matter how remote - that the sisters took a massive dose of something or other, taped themselves together and jumped into the river just as they were losing consciousness.
I'm going with honor killing.

They have to investigate in all directions especially since it came to be known that they were looking for
Protection at one point. Later on they have asked for asylum which indicates they wanted to change their visa status, to
A more permanent solution in their favor.
Foul play is not being excluded since apparently
They had nothing with them like cell phone or Id.

Could be honor killings that's why no one has claimed them.

How sad. There seems to be much to piece together.

“the bodies of two young women, bound together by duct tape at their waists and ankles . . . The police are investigating the possibility that the sisters may have carried out a suicide pact, taping themselves together and throwing themselves in the river.”
With all due respect to the NYPD, I find the notion of a possible suicide pact carried out by these sisters difficult to fathom. The properties of duct tape is not like that of masking tape or electrical tape or scotch tape – that stuff is strong, it stretches, and is arduous to tear with both hands that are free, much less hands that have been bound together.
I sincerely wish the investigators the best of luck in determining how exactly these two young women died and hopefully why their lives ended so tragically and abruptly. Sincere condolences to their family.

@Marge Keller
“With all due respect to the NYPD,” the report does not indicate that their hands were “bound together.” Suicide is not farfetched. However, they were seeking asylum. Was there something in their asylum appeal that might have implicated a Saudi official? Is it more farfetched to speculate that they were Khashoggoied?
