The article quotes Mr Simon as saying, in regard to Warhol's work: "“Dennis Hopper was an incredible representation of the American cowboy. "
Ummm....no, Dennis Hopper was a film actor, occasional director and photographer.

Looked at the dishes. Love Dennis Hopper but the bright red dishes are too dark for Hopper's image to show up. The beige colorway is lovely but who wants to own dishes with Sandra Brant's image on them? Strange choices. Not very appealing.

I love the idea of this project.
Warhal was great and had an opinion and using fashion is a smart way of introducing his work to new generations. Specially at this moment of American reality.
1
@Gary Brenner;
But is "introducing his (Warhol's) work to new generations" the point of the exercise? I doubt it.
Shallow and pretentious. Good design should rise above such obvious tricks. Might as well just sell full length mirrors that actually "say" (form TBD) whatever you want/need them to regardless of what you're wearing. That would be worthy of the word radical. And in a veritable sea of overpriced bad design (that means you Balenciaga), Calvin has gotten ridiculous. There may be some good pieces in there somewhere but if you have to search so hard AND rationalize the cost it says more about a desperate need of your own than the clothing you are buying. Search ebay for your own vintage Jaws t shirt (I did, years ago). I guess if you're loaded/jaded......

One cannot continually use art (as he did for Dior) to camouflage a ballgown turned into a peplum or a Warhol on sportswear as a distraction. And yes Raf, I will take your admiration.

@Barbara :
The two models shown wearing CK clothes in the photos are (unintentionally?) funny....

Oh I've got an opinion and it is against him.
Andy this, Andy that!
We know what Andy did. But on a creative level, what does Simons actually stand for. Is there "actual" validity to his work. Hhonesty, sincerity. Things that take him to the, say, edge?
Because a lot of the time, I just see other people's work.
It's all well the designers cosying up to Fine Art. But there is a difference.
Trust me, I'm a fan. He is always at the edge...But is he the one cutting it?

@M160:
But what kind of "validity, honesty and sincerity" is in any of Warhol's work? Wasn't that sort of the point?
1
Raf Simons took over Calvin Klein and the world yawned...
2
Why would anyone want to wear clothing with a car crash imprinted on it? I love Warhol's work, but what does this have to do with Calvin Klein? Shouldn't CK be known for flattering, minimalist clothing? This designer seems absolutely clueless.
4
@msd:
OK, maybe the James Dean car crash?
Warhol, the last American genius.

Warhol & I minus Edie ... Ain't it clear/That I just can't fit

Glad he drank the seltzer water, but did not touch the food...........
A perfect metaphor.

Photocopying as art is also "difficult to explain." Like t-shirts you buy at the carnival and you wear to show your skeleton.
