Put a lot of money in the Bank! ... Hollywood eats up women and spits them out with out even so much as an afterthought.. make all the money you can now Tiffany.. because the focus in Hollywood shifts fast

Love her. More truth in power in Hollywood, needed desperately. She’s changing the game and power structure. All for it. GO Miss Haddish, GO!
Cheryl (New York)
Funny and beautiful.
MC (NYC)
She is a good soul. Made from rough earth and a hard knock life, yet all of that has created a uniquely beautiful human being. I wish her continued success, stability, and security.

Some of the comments say that there's too much talk about Tiffany's over-the-top rough growing up. But without that, she wouldn't say this: “The end goal is to create intergenerational wealth and spread joy, and make sure everyone who works with me can spread the same thing and have it trickle down.” The Republican version of trickle-down economics has been completely debunked, but I love Tiffany's version and I hope with all my heart that she achieves that vision.

What an amazing goal. Amazing heart. If only we all thought so lovingly and with so much energy and joy! More I know about this girl, the more I want to love her! Don’t burn out! Keep being adorable and positive, please! She reminds me of my cousin with whom I lost contact because of family drama...Susie Kong, I miss you and your funniness.

Tiffany has more charisma in her pinky finger that makes you fall in love with her, than most people (including other Hollywood types) have in their whole body. She is like a Lucille Ball....she will be a legend if she manages to keep it real.
Alish (Las Vegas )
Tiffany has done an awesome job of staying relevant. She’s funny all the time, no filter, no tact and a quick retort for just about everything. I wonder who she really is deep inside. I wonder what she really cares about — after the interviews, the hosting gigs and the red carpet appearances. Because the person we see on TV, in commercials, on the big screen and read about — everywhere — has become so predictable she’s like a caricature of herself. I hope she makes time to rest & think.

I appreciate your use of “cosseted” to describe the bar/bar mitzvah kids Haddish entertained while she lived out of her car. While the colloquial meaning of cosseted is “spoiled”, the origin refers to a farm animal (e.g. a lamb) that is raised by hand in a home or cottage. It was clever how you juxtaposed Haddish’s homelessness with her “home raised” audience. Thank you. That was very entertaining!
jess (st louis)
She was the best part of Girls Trip, hands down.

Roasted chicken? Chicken express! Chicken shot from guns!

The merchandising of Ms. Haddish has been classic Hollywood: Too fast and too soon. Loved her in "Girls Trip" and her first appearance on Colbert--but then, more of same, and then, more of same. Then, quick book contract and instant bestseller. As all of the comments attest, Ms. Haddish has a personal connection with her fans. (Hence, how many comments call her by her first name). That's all great. I'm a little suspicious, though, of her recourse, in interview after interview, to her backstory. (Not challenging the story--just the too-easy invocation of it.) Why does she do that? To establish her cultural cred? If so, job done. And done. And done. Ms. Haddish clearly has acting "chops." I just wish she'd get off the merry-go-round of Hollywood publicity (which, contra her message to her fans, isn't about "empowerment" at all--just exploitation), and get seriously down to showing us what she can do. I look forward to that.
Alish (Las Vegas )
@Wuddus I thoroughly enjoyed her in Girls Trip, but I too sensed something a little too “woe is me” about her often repeated backstory. It’s as if she felt the need to have had a “horrific past” in order to be accepted by fans. I applaud her comedic efforts and like you, would love to see her step outside of the “over-the-top” roles. I wish her well.
Patricia (Pasadena)
People are complaining that she's been playing the same roles. Maybe someone should write a good script for her like "Can You Ever Forgive Me," which cleared up a similar problem for McCarthy.
Sara (Oakland)
@Patricia: or Precious role for M'onique
Ann (California)
So grateful to learn more about Ms. Tiffany and what has fueled her to do amazing things. She's refreshing and fun and sparkles like champagne. I sense she's part of the big talent wave destined to give Hollywood a makeover that's long overdue. Go Tiffany!
L.Braverman (NYC)
I've never heard of Tiffany Haddish; I'm old and white and male and wow, I have tears in my eyes; my heart goes out to Tiffany, I'll look for her name on TV. What a great article; both Cara Buckley and Tiffany Haddish were extraordinary to read and read about. Many thanks for introducing me to both of them...
Ann (California)
@L.Braverman-Check out her appearance on Trevor Noah on YouTube. Hilarious, fun, over-the-top!
Brad (Oregon)
I just watched it and I’m crying from all the laughter. Thanks!
Judy (New York, New York)
@Brad She got an Emmy for hosting SNL. She was hysterical!
Zydeco Girl (Boulder)
She's SO smart and funny, the very embodiment of a Sagittarian. WE LOVE YOU, TIFFANY!!!!
Paul (Chicago)
Would you start an article about a man by focusing on never happened vacation sex?
Ananda Ghosh (Oakland)
Yes, certainly! What’s not entertaining about a just missed holiday hookup regardless of the parties’ genders? In this case it clearly ties into broader relevant themes about the subject’s life.

Aaah! Nice story that is reflective of a tragicomedy! Though a tragicomedy is usually a fictional work, this story is as real as it gets, with a happy ending. We need more examples of this in our culture and what better way to express and expose the marvelous talent of how to make lemonade out of lemons. Tyler Perry, you are on for creating a new movie entitled "The Merchant of South Los Angeles", starring non-other than Tiffany Haddish.

I think she is very talented, very funny and very attractive. I would hope that they don't pigeon-hole her into too many of these over-the-top crazy, loud females. I see some real dramatic talent in there. I hope they see it too.

Tiffany Haddish is a strong survivor and talented. Now she needs to carefully choose her next roles and movies. I tried to watch Girls' Trip, I really did. The screenplay could have given us much more interesting, complex, and believable women. Tiffany's role, in particular, was off the charts manic and unhinged. She truly appeared mentally ill. I finally turned it off after the scene of showing these women urinating on the crowd of people below them. If I had been one of those actors, I would have asked why? Why are we being depicted in this embarrassing way? Is this the best you can give a group of talented black artists?
Ginger PeecheeKeane (NY, NY)
Love her humor...love her humanity even more ❤️
it wasn't me (newton, ma)
How can you not LOVE her? Everything about her, even the wart? Please take care of yourself, Tiffany, because we want you around for a LONG time.

Tiffany is always operating on 250 on a 1-10 scale, I call this Robin Williams Syndrome since he was the same way. I'd like to see her in a quiet dramatic movie role - the way Rosie Perez did with "Fearless," or Lucille Ball and Bob Hope with "The Facts of Life." "The Oath" and "The Kitchen" are not the type of film I'm talking about.
Urmyonlyhopebi1 (Miami, Fl.)
Yes, this, article mentions one of my faves (Haddish) and one of my least favorites (Hart). I see Haddish's success ingredients : witty, funny, and beautiful on screen, while I'm still wondering what is Hart's talent. Guess that is why sriracha sauce and head cheese are acquired tastes.
nyc2char (New York, NY)
@Urmyonlyhopebi1WOW! Kevin Hart is extremely talented...and he gave her good advise. Why the hate????
Lisa (New York, NY)
Wow, what an inspirational person. I was in tears reading about her background... and I was in tears laughing with her during Girls Trip! Looking forward to seeing her career grow.
Fran (IL)
Thank you for this profile-- Tiffany certainly can do both drama and comedy. What an exceptional person.
Sarah (New Haven)
I love that she is taking care of her family! You go girl!
gdf (mi)
wow. what a life. I'm glad she came out ok. I wouldn't have survived that experience
Calleen (Florida)
Ever since Girls Trip, she has been my "girl crush". I read her book and go see her movies....she's a breath of laughter I am enjoying. Good Luck Girl, keep on going.
Michael Ollie Clayton (Unravel1)
Go, baby! Str8 out the gate in Girl's Trip I knew you were not cut from the conventional cloth. Looking forward to your continued presence in the universe. You will be streamed on my device(s)...
Heather (East Village)
Thank you for running this fantastic piece! Tiffany Haddish is incredibly inspiring and deserving of coverage. I love particularly that this profile didn't rely on the old tropes -- (the one where the reporter goes on an adventure with the star; the one where the reporter goes on at length about their own reaction to the star; the one where the reporter goes on at length about everyone else's reaction to the star ) -- and instead spends its time exploring what is underneath the charm, the wit, and the perseverance Ms. Haddish clearly possesses. We should bottle that stuff!
Michelle (US)
Tiffany Haddish is the embodiment of strength, perseverance, and grace. And her sense of humor and comedy? Otherworldly. Everything she touches turns to a gift to the world. I will pray that she takes care of herself in the midst of taking care of others. She deserves that. Godspeed Ms. Haddish!!

Dear NYT, Thank you for bringing joy to my morning with your two wonderful profiles of two of the most hilarious and fearless women I would be delighted to watch reading the phone book or the federal budget: Tiffany Haddish and Melissa McCarthy.
