I think that Nike’s strategy will hurt their brand. They haven’t even came out with any merchandise and people are already buring and getting rid of their gear since the ad came out. I think people understand what Kaepernick is trying to do and I think that more people will catch along. I don’t agree with his protesting but I understand with what he and Nike are trying to promote with equal rights and social injustice.
I do not think Nike's controversy will be successful. I think it will backfire because people around the world will stop buying Nike apparel because Kaepernick kneels for the flag and disrespects his country. I do not like the ad because Kaepernick is disrespecting his country and is not respectful to some people.
I think Nike's strategy is ingenious. Our president has said it himself. All publicity is good publicity. My opinion on Nike partnering with Kapernick is that a shoe is just a shoe,a brand is just a brand. it doesn't matter who's behind it or why, clothes are just clothes.

Colin kaepernick has risked his whole career for something that he believes in and no matter what he lost or what happened he was not going to give up on what he believes in. The most people that are going to hear this ad and remember it is the kid that is trying adn wants to give up but wont. This ad makes a lot of sense that he is the cover of it because he fits it perfect. In this deal he will be the face of the company and get shirts and shoes and they will also donate to his “know your rights” campaign. When people heard of this they began to burn there stuff and get rid of it all because he was gonna be a face of nike. I think that they are going to lose a lot of sales and because no one likes the movement he is doing.
Nike's strategy in this will most likely backfire. It's already started to backfire and people are starting to destroy Nike merchandise. I completely agree with Colin on this. I didn't really agree until people who lean to the right started to burn the merch.
I really don't know what to think about this situation. Mostly because I am not a big fan of football. But the there comes the real situation: Kneeling during the national anthem.( Is this the situation?) Naturally, at first I thought it was ridiculous, but now that I know the reason behind it, I don't mind it. I understand why they're doing it. They need a way to get their message out, and doing this definitely got attention. I do think Nike's strategy would backfire, but I'm just not sure exactly how. But at the same time, backfire and the results they were looking for might come at the same time. Some people are for it, some are not. Maybe Nike will get tired of this kind of attention, maybe another brand will try the same thing. This could potentially ruin C.K.'s life. maybe it will make it better. Nobody knows, we'll just have to find.
I think Nike’s strategy will be successful. I feel like it will spark more people that believe in Kaepernick’s views to follow the issue. Especially since a big company like Nike is taking a chance on Kaepernick and showing their support. My opinion on it is that it will be slow at first until more people gain confidence to follow their similar beliefs as well.
I think it will backfire, if you think about it it already has. Nike has dropped 2% in profits and people are burning their Nike apparel. I wouldn't want to support a brand that is donating money to a campaign that doesn't respect our country. All together Nike is going to fail in the end and not make any money like they thought they would.
I think that Nike’s strategy will work because is getting so much attention. It’s such a big controversy that more and more people are talking about Nike, so they are getting more publicity. I think that Nike’s and Kaepernick’s partnership was a smart idea. Not only does it give Nike more money, but it also has people focus on discrimination and social injustice. I agree with the N.F.L players taking a knee during the National Anthem because everyone has a right to stand up for what they believe in and it's not like they are sitting down during it, they are taking a knee which is also respectful but in a different way.
Believe in what you want, no matter who says to give up or that you wont be able to reach it, still go after it. Those who are against you they will want you to lose, try and prove them wrong. I believe that Colin Kaepernick is trying to say this by his quote on the Nike advertisement. Last year he was fired for kneeling as the national anthem played, I don't believe they should've acted so rude and had hatred for something like that. Him being partners with Nike will be very successful after others start to realize that its a shoe but people didn't have to act the way they did but they could've resolved it in a different way.
I think the statement implies that you should fight for what you believe in. I think it is referring to the players who kneel at the national anthem. I believe they are targeting more of a younger audience to try to persuade them to follow what they think is right. My initial reaction to the post was that Nike made a mistake and this will hurt the industry very badly. This deal involved both the government and the NFL. So far the public have been posting videos of them burning and destroying their Nike gear because they do not want to be supporting his messages and what he does.
I believe it will backfire. This is because you don't see any other sport teams kneeling for the anthem and brands supporting them for it. Also, even the N.F. L wasn’t supporting Kaepernick kneeling. I don't have much of an opinion on this topic other than that I don't want to buy from a company who is supporting someone who isn't supporting our country.
I think Nike’s sales will be successful still because people love their products and the millennials will love it even more. I think it is dumb in my opinion. There is a Steelers player named Alejandro Villanueva who served tours in Afghanistan also. When the Steelers stayed in the locker room and the tunnel for the National Anthem, he was the only player out for it, standing there with his hand on his heart while his team was against it. I believe that Villanueva’s move was a lot bolder than Kaepernick’s because Villanueva is an actual athlete and he served tours, while all Kaepernick was take a knee for the Anthem.
The statement that the ad is trying to make is to stand up for what you believe in. What it is implying is about the situation that happened during the NFL last year when he kneeled during the National Anthem. The Nike's intended audience was to anybody that wants to stand up for what the believe but is too scared of the consequences. My initial reaction to the ad was that he was good looking. The deal involves a shirt and shoes. The public's reaction to this so far was not very good. People started burning Nike items. The players say they are protesting for equal rights. The Nike deal may affect NFL because it could cause them to lose players and watchers. Kaepernick will move merchandise because equal rights is a bid deal right now for a lot of people. I think Nike will not backfire because more and more things are happening with equal rights so more people are supporting him. I think the Nike deal is a good idea, I support because I do think equal rights is a big deal right now.
Before reading this article I already didn’t agree with it, i'm not sure what I really should say but there is nothing positive that comes from Kaepernick kneeling during the National Anthem. The ad might be there to say believe in what you believe even if you have to give up everything. Kaepernick could have protested in a different way. Kneeling during the National Anthem is not the way to go, Kaepernick was disrespecting the United States and the military and personally that is offensive to me. NIKE is making a deal with Kaepernick by donating money to his “ Know Your Rights” protest and so far people are not supporting that decision, they are posting pictures and videos of them burning their NIKE products to show their disapproval. Not only is the protest affecting NIKE but it is affecting the N.F.L, t.v ratings have decreased, on field violent and non-violent protests have been a struggle for the N.F.L and President Trump is targeting the teams whose players refuse to stand during the Anthem. I want to give back to veterans who fought for this country and our rights by going and serving America in the U.S NAVY so I can repay the veterans and continue to protect America. Kneeling before the flag disrespects the veterans whether or not the players think it does they need to find another way to protest.
The ad is telling us that if we believe in something we should be willing to give up anything for that cause. It is also telling us that Colin Kaepernick is brave for doing what he is doing. I think the ad is targeting people who support Kaepernick because as someone who agrees with his movement, this makes me want to go out and buy some Nike. My opinion on that advertisment is that its really powerful and makes a strong statement and I am thankful to Nike for standing with Kaepernick.
Colin Kaepernick, I think he was going with what he believed in and that's where the quote came from stating “believe in something even if it means sacrificing everything”. I think that nikes strategy of courting controversy will soon be successful. I believe this because gay marriage was once illegal in michigan and then soon it was legalized like people start to realize these things aren’t that big of a deal. The first amendment gives you the right to freedom of expression and all Kaepernick was doing what expressing what he believes in. I think nike is doing a good thing with supporting Kaepernick because even by law he is not doing anything wrong and it's just ridiculous.
I think Nike’s strategy in the end will be successful because people will get over it eventually. Or may not since people are burning merchandise. My opinion of the partnership with Nike and kaepernick is I support it because I myself will fight for equal rights.
I do think that Nike's courting controversy will be successful for many reasons. For one reason, like everybody uses Nike for everything. All high school athletes like to wear Nike for every sport that they play. Everybody has always loved Nike, and even if they don't agree with what the company is doing they will still buy Nike apparel. I think that Nike's partnership with Kaepernick is pretty risky, but then again I support it. I think that someone needs to have his back, and it is good that Nike has his back. Also I believe that everybody has their own right to say and do what they want.
I do not think Nike’s strategy will be successful at all. It will definitely backfire because every other time a company has shoehorned in politics into their advertisement, it was met with overwhelming negativity, and for good reason. I think Kaepernick partnering up with Nike is perfectly fine, but if they just use him to get support from left leaning people with his messages, which is exactly how it looks like it’s going to go, then that’s when it becomes a problem with me and anyone else who doesn’t want to see political messages everywhere they look, including on their feet.
This ad is trying to show that people should stand for what they believe in. By showing that in the NFL, Kaepernick is trying to provide the world with that message and that they shouldn’t let racism and inequality take over. I think that his recent deal with Nike is going to be successful because after they realize that he’s not aiming towards the military, they will understand that there should be a change and that it’s good that he’s standing for what he wants.
Kaepernick made a deal with Nike to sell shoes and a shirt helping to spread his protest. The public has been burning shoes and products. They want a boycott. Kaepernick impacted the NFL when he took a knee during the national anthem. They lost tv ratings and President Trump is not happy. The players are protesting for equal rights for the black community. Kaepernick might affect the NFl’s tv ratings and people boycotting from going to the games causing them to lose money because people don't agree with him. Kaepernick has reason to believe that his merchandise will sell because he has supporters. I think the Nike's strategy will backfire because people don't agree with the deal. I strongly believe Nike should stay out of politics.
I think that Nike's decision will backfire even though there will be people who support this decision but in the end its going to back fire and make the Nike brand less popular. I don't have an opinion for this topic to be honest
My thought on the whole Nike thing is a stupid ad and it's a waste of time. I think that yeah maybe they are trying to protest for their rights of discrimination in race, but they need to understand that kneeling during the national anthem is a big insult to all of America and the American veterans. People believe what they want but kneeling to the National Anthem isn't going to solve anything except a whole bunch of arguments about nonsense. I think that because of this ad it makes people feel better and gives them hope that people are standing up against racism. but the only real reason behind all of the nonsense is that people don't know how to act and then when they get hurt or even killed over things like this isn't racial discrimination its just people need to know how to grow up and act like adults. we are all family and we should treat each other like our own. some people might not like what I have to say but that's just how I feel about the night ad.
[[What statement is this ad trying to make? What does it imply about Colin Kaepernick, Nike and the N.F.L.? What is your evidence?]]
It's trying to capture the spirit of a moment and of a movement while also being generic enough to be adopted globally, at least in terms of sports.
[[Who do you think is Nike’s intended audience for this ad? Why do you think so?]]
Young people, obviously, and because they spend more money on footwear than old people do. Also because they are more likely to switch brands.
[[What is your initial reaction to the ad and why?]]
Initial reaction is that he's a handsome guy, which is why he's the "face" of this campaign.
[[What is your opinion of Nike’s partnership with Kaepernick and why?]]
Good for him. He should be making money playing football but he's been blacklisted. So I'm glad he was able to find another way to secure his financial future.
I don't believe I've heard an NFL owner break ranks and say that he understands the source of frustration and anger some of his players might feel.
Nor have I heard of a team owner sitting down with his players to inquire about the roots of the protests.
I completely understand that Kaepernick, who is biracial, was trying to figure out his place in society...what it means to be a black man in America.
Once he was on that journey, the threat of banishment wasn't going to stop him.
Before reading my comment, look at it from across the room. How does it make you feel? Why? What am tryng to say? Are you sure? Are you mad yet? Why or why not?

I think the whole thing is about Money. I do not believe for one minute that Kneeling at an NFL Game will have any effect on what the they are protesting about. The American Public is offended that these player are not honoring the Flag a representation of all those who have fought & died to give us our basic freedoms.
Colin in my eyes is an idiot. Respect us the American people, Earn our trust and respect. Pat Tillman was a true example of a hero and an example of what all these kneeling idiots show aspire to.

[[ I do not believe for one minute that Kneeling at an NFL Game will have any effect on what the they are protesting about.]]
Clearly, you're wrong. It's been a national issue for two years now and it all started with a simple, silent protest.
[[The American Public is offended that these player are not honoring the Flag a representation of all those who have fought & died to give us our basic freedoms.]]
I'm surprised I have to point this out, but the protest isn't against the flag, it's a statement that they believe some people in America do not get to enjoy those basic freedoms...that includes the small number of high profile shootings of "blacks" by police and the far greater number of people who are wrongfully convicted or who are held in jail for nonviolent crimes simply because they cannot afford to make bond.
[[Colin in my eyes is an idiot. Respect us the American people, Earn our trust and respect.]]
I think that's what he's trying to do, but if you're going to call him names maybe he'll just let you come around in your own time.
[[Pat Tillman was a true example of a hero and an example of what all these kneeling idiots show aspire to.]]
Pat Tillman was killed in a friendly fire incident https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2014/04/22/305969203/soldier-spe... and the army tried to cover up that fact https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=112816210
Have a nice day.
[[The far greater number of people who are held in jail for nonviolent crimes simply because they cannot afford to make bond.]]
Let me ask you a question.
Do you believe people should be held in jail for nonviolent offenses (at taxpayer expense) simply because they cannot make bail?
I you don't believe they should be held in jail, then you agree with Kaepernick.
Do you believe that children have the right to be healthy, safe and educated?
If yes, then you agree with Kaepernick. https://kaepernick7.com/know-your-rights-camp/
Kaepernick just takes it a step farther by making the point through protest that not all children enjoy those rights.
Think it over.
And have a nice day.
@Ted I fully agree with you he knows money is a major part and more publicity which means more money.
