The most gruesome scene was the pastor and his baby at the lake. I thought-OMG, not possible!

I re-watched Season 1 over the past couple of weeks in anticipation of the Big Day (today!) and enjoyed it just as much as the first time. I was surprised at the number of things I had mis-remembered, but I'm in good shape now. The acting is all great, and the characters - good and bad - are wonderfully written and developed. I hope they can maintain the quality and momentum through the next season . . . and many more. Hoping for a rainy cold weekend.

Del from 'bad boys' got wasted. I did not see that coming.

@fz1
I agree. Between that scene and the one in which Eugenia steps out in front of a garbage truck while yelling at her son truly made me gasp and scream out loud.

I never really understood why Ruth Langmore wanted to kill Marty.

I just discovered this show! What a strange mix of dark noir crime and comedy. Should I feel guilty laughing at the way these violent acts and gruesome murders come about? I suppose it’s a release from the shock of the unexpected scenes of violence that happens. Martys’ quick thinking and bleak sense of humor in the face of imminent death is refreshing. Glad season two starts tomorrow!

I wish there had been a "spoiler alert" at the beginning of this recap warning folks to not read it if they had any intentions of watching Season One. There was a plethora of shocking and unexpected "events" that made the series so great. Viewers practically jumped out of their seats from the many "I didn't see that coming" moments.
I strongly suspect Season Two will have as many, if not more, shocking moments and that each episode will be another exhilarating roller coaster ride for Marty Byrde and his family.

@Marge Keller So Season Two in the headline didn't do it?

@Marge Keller Well, this is obviously a recap, and a recap is designed to recount details of the plot. What did you expect when you read the headline?

Absolutely! At what point can we write or fully discuss a television show? Especially when a new season starts the very next day.

Excellent recap! Reminded me how much I enjoyed Season 1. Now, I can't wait to watch Season 2! I thank you (and Netflix probably does, too!)

This is such an incredible series and how it ended last year truly blind sided me. This season's story line can go in so many different directions with every one more exciting than the last, I am on the edge of my seat, waiting for Season Two to begin tomorrow.
The acting of Jason Bateman and Laura Linney was outstanding. I still think they make a rather odd looking couple, but their chemistry together really clicks.
Thanks for the recap because after a year, the memory can become a little fuzzy.
