Maybe, at the end of this nightmare episode, they'll get Trump, like Capone, on tax evasion. Not to mention money laundering, abuse of power, failing to uphold his Presidential oath to preserve, protect and defend . . . and all the rest of it. Including treason. Maybe the tax man will get this crook at last.

I can't stand Trump but he's more slippery than an eel and today unemployment claims fell to a 48yr low. The economy is going to embolden his supporters, massive numbers of people turned out to demonstrate in England against him and the American electorate needs to do the same in a protest against the man and his party.
1
When are Trumpian assets going to be seized like a common drug dealer (or someone with extra money on them because they were planning on buying a used car)? Or are people with lots of money and bravado as well as psychopathy immune from any and all justice?
1
I believe Trump has always been involved in money laundering. It is his New York success. I believe this is where he is very compromised - that Russians own him and that he is, in all senses of the term, a "bad actor" in the affairs of democratic government.
5
Let's get those trump tax returns opened up. Then we can see some of what's been hiding...
11
The Trumps are all frauds and should be subject to the same tax laws as the rest of us. I hope Trump's tax returns finally come to light.

A black man would not get away with 1% of the crimes Trump has committed.
15
Why Trump and the GOP didn’t set this up as a religious organization like Scientology is puzzling. They both clearly worship him and there wouldn’t be all of the messy self-dealing objections. Missed opportunity. Sad.
11
Trump has a well documented habit of projecting his worst faults and criminal behavior on others.
When he went after Secretary Clinton for her founding role in the Clinton Foundation, he was projecting his own crimes upon her.
The Clinton Foundation a transparent, 4-Star Charity Navigator rated global non-profit that raises hundreds of millions of dollars a year that has saved millions of lives with exceptionally low overhead.
Contrast that with the Trump Foundation: it has no operating structure and doesn’t spend the limited money it has raised to help many people at all. He has used it to pay legal settlements, make political donations to state Attorney Generals hearing fraud cases for Trump Univeristy, and paid personal fines from the Foundation assets.
Of course he thinks the Clinton’s are up to no good with their global foundation- because he knows just what he does with his own foul, fetid one.
31
There's no reason to believe his "foundation" is run any more honorably than his real estate business, with its multiple bankruptcies over the years leaving thousands of small vendors ruined in the wake. Or Trump University. Or his political career aided by his pals in Moscow.
Everything this man touches is dirty.
34
Good move!
Now, Clinton Foundation article to follow tomorrow?
Right, NYT?

PS please read the comment posted above yours.

Why should it? There is plenty of publicly available information about the Clinton Foundation. Try going to Charity Navigator - an independent charity watchdog and evaluator - and compare the two. You'll have your answer.

@Jack
I have No problem investigating the Clinton Foundation, but Hillary is not the President. Every Time this man goes to one of his Hotels or Gulf Clubs it Free Advertisement. Why is he allowed to still own The Trump Org?

Another shot across Trump's bow by state agencies whose criminal convictions (like civil suits') cannot be pardoned by the president. In addition to DTF and the Attorney General, New York State's Dept. of Financial Services also investigates banking violations and related allegations (many of which can carry heavy fines or prison time). Similar agencies and powers are ready for action in Virginia and other states and commonwealths.
20
Right-wing reactionaries who support Donald Trump are always talking about phony, ginned-up conspiracies supposedly involving the Clinton Foundation. A number of investigations have not turned up ANY actionable crime by the Clinton Foundation. International agencies that rate charitable foundations throughout the world give the Clinton Foundation an A or A+ and rate it higher than they do the American Red Cross. It will be interesting to to see what happens when real malfeasance and misfeasance is documented with the Trump Foundation, which Trump does not put money into, yet uses to pay off judgements against him for failure to pay people what he owes them or judgements for court fines for his many scams.

@Beartooth
Challenging Trump foundation is absolutely right thing to do... but let's not be hypocrites...
As you see below the outstanding "ratings" are likely work of the "foundation" 's own effort... :))
Collecting funds from all the incorruptible sources... :))
Daily Caller 8/12/16
"In its 15 years of operations, the Clinton Foundation, formally known as the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation, has collected up to $2 billion from donors, according to The Washington Post. The donors include a wide range of the world’s wealthiest people: Eastern European tycoons, Arab Sheiks, African mining magnates, hedge fund billionaires and Wall Street firms."
Investor's Business Daily 8/23/16
"Over the past two weeks, it has become painfully obvious to anyone but the most hard-core Clinton loyalist that the Clinton Foundation was little more than an influence-peddling operation designed to exchange cash for favors from Bill and Hillary Clinton.
We noted in this space yesterday that a fresh batch of emails showed how the foundation intervened to get a meeting arranged between Clinton and Crown Prince of Bahrain after attempts to work through normal channels failed. The prince's country was a major foundation donor."

Too bad there aren't more logical, thinking people like you in your state!

All the truth about Trump is in his tax returns.
30
Clinton foundation=good. Trump foundation=bad. What more do NY Times readers need to know?
10
No. Clinton Foundation is A rated and their tax filings are available on the web site going back with both Clinton’s to 1972. They gave away 92% of what they collected. Trump Foundation is battling dozen’s of law suit, does not published any information is ‘not rated’ as a charity which means they conceal what happens to the money they collect and of course Trump is STILL the only Presidential who has failed to release his tax returns. Note it is not much money either. Kind of like the ‘sean Hannity foundation’ which spent 93% of what was supposed to go to Vets on plane, concert tickets and food for family members. Facts matter. Crimes are real not imagined or made up that is why in the USA we have actual courts and judicial system the go after crooks because they actually crooks. They are not going for any other reason.

The Good governor would be wise to take actions rather than just using words against the Fake President. Sure, trump will tie up any case in court for years, until he is long gone from office, but why should he have any peace in retirement? These offenses are real and serious. He and his offensive offspring should pay for them.
38
Locally in my neck of the woods in Northern Westchester my GOP State Senator Terrence Murphy and GOP State Assembly Member Kevin Bryne keep saying "Westchester has the highest taxes in the nation". Meanwhile, they won't speak up about how they continue to support this abominable man/child? Would love for the NY Times to interview these two, as they refuse to respond to their constituents daily on issues like taxes, healthcare, guns and racism in their districts.
26
New York has the second highest state tax burden in the nation. And Westchester leads the way. Any attempt to lower sales, real estate or school taxes is met with howls of protest from the Democrats, liberals and progressives. Meanwhile, are our roads in better shape in Westchester? No. Are our schools producing superior performing students? No. Does our governor do anything to address the corruption in Albany? No. Why? because Democrats are in control.
6
@Paul Lets talk about the enormous deficit now exposed in the county budget that was left to us by Rob Astorino(R) for George Latimer(D) to clean up. I would also argue that Westchester schools are better; our county roads are in pretty good shape; and the corruption Albany... the fault is both sides of the aisle.
1
@paul Westchester has some of the best education, health and economic outcomes in the nation. Yes, you pay high taxes, but you get a lot. You're in one of the most prosperous jurisdictions on the planet.
And it isn't distant "liberals" giving you high(er) taxes. It's your neighbors, voting for better schools, services and amenities, which Westchester has in spades.

Subpoena Trump's taxes!!!
42
Let's see, how does the saying go?
Lock him up!
Lock him up!
Lock him up!
At some point this man-child needs to be held accountable for his actions.
58
There is absolutely a need to pursue this investigation to its conclusion: a criminal complaint. Tax laws respecting charities should be strictly enforced as a bar against others who would otherwise create tax-free entities that benefit themselves.
46
Trump did not release his tax returns during the 2016 election cycle under the incorrect (lying) guise that he was under Federal audit. It is time for citizens of the United States to demand disclosure of Trump’s tax returns (and not just schedule A) to determine how monetarily compromised he is with Russian oligarchs. It defies logic that he is not in some way owned by Russia particularly after his performance in Finland.
We also await Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller's findings to, perhaps, support clear and incontrovertible evidence of Russian collusion in the 2016 election cycle and their undue monetary influence directed to Trump.
56
At this juncture with the Treasonous Fake President, the public presumption should be that Trump did, indeed, criminally violate the state tax laws of New York. To that extent, he is solidly in the distinguished company of Madoff, Gotti, and other notorious, amoral career criminals in American history. Trump has always been a narcissist with, when available, a predisposition to engage in criminal behavior when it furthers his solely personal aspirations. It is part and parcel of his malignant pathology.
32
Amid the daily tumultuous Stürm und Drang and the unceasing, wearing onslaught of the scandal du jour vis-à-vis the Trump Administration, this is the most significant article to appear in this newspaper in quite some time. Give the thread a good tug at exactly the right place and the spool unravels.
37
Notice how in 2016 Trump somehow managed to identify charities in Iowa just before the Iowa primary. Just a coincidence, honest.
24
@Coco Pazzo Plus, he uses the Trump Foundation and not his own money or campaign funds to reward these charities - as part of campaign appearances. Charitable foundations are forbidden by law from any involvement in political campaigns.
6
Let's get the tax returns by any means necessary.
Let's keep the Trump organization mired in lawsuits - historically they have lost a great deal of the time.
And let's keep anyone with the last name Trump away from any governance role in a 501c3 organization - they cannot be trusted.
62
The full extent of the law for prosecution should be pursued in this case. Disgraceful son of NY has been skating under the law for decades. If the party of trump in congress won't act, you can at least establish trump's post-presidency reality as one of further discovery and punishment.
66
"In filing the lawsuit last month, the office also sent referral letters to the Internal Revenue Service and the Federal Election Commission for possible further action, including potential criminal charges."
Yeah, good luck with that.
18
Cuomo will act only when given no choice if faced with a tidal wave of public outrage. Fighting corruption has never been his strong suit.
25
@BKNY - Cuomo is no fan of Donald Trump. I'm pretty certain that he will let this lawsuit go forward.
