Just think - the people buying and selling here are the ones who just received a big, fat tax cut from our dictator/"president". It is obscene. This country is an oligarchy.

So do you all know why it's called "The Getty"?
For many years this address was a Getty gas station!

The real estate section of the Times possibly surpasses the doings of the Trump administration in making me feel angry and depressed. This is not the city that I grew up loving any more, its’ soul having been sold to overseas developers.

Thanks for providing yet another powerful argument for the feasibility of a millionaires tax! De Blasio couldn't ask for better ammunition for his proposal but such displays of conspicuous consumption by the mega-rich.
While we're at it, why are New York City and New York State not looking at the example set by Vancouver, BC? They charge/are proposing a 20% tax on real estate purchases by foreign buyers, primarily to calm their overheated (overpriced) housing market, in which people who actually work and live there cannot afford to live there anymore because of sky-high housing costs. Sounds really familiar, doesn't it?
If NYC would establish such a tax, I hope it would also include the "LLC" class of buyers in those assessed.
We need housing for people who actually live here, and thus pay not only real estate, but also Federal, State and City income taxes, as well as sales taxes for their everyday purchases. Let's stop subsidizing wealthy out-of-towners and AirBnB "entrepreneurs".

How nice for them.

Next time developers try to push out union labor and “cut labor costs”, I hope the times will do an expose on the profit levels with single apartments selling for $50-plus million.

It would be helpful to know what the assessment is on these properties, and how much they pay in property taxes to help support the services that make their locations valuable.
And it would not surprise me if the occupants were paying more in commons charges to manage the building than they pay for all the services the city and community provide that make NYC livable and desirable.
Without the data, we don't stop to think of these things. Please provide the data.

Exactly! As I mentioned in another posting here, NYC should urgently consider adopting a 20% additional sales tax on residences purchased by buyers who are not residing in the US. That approach is currently pioneered by Vancouver. For us here in NYC, it should include all purchases made by "LLCs ", as such anonymous purchases are often left empty and frequently used as laundromats for ill-gotten money.

How is the Geffen apartment considered a Park Ave co-op if it is located on Fifth Ave? Also, aren't the views of Central Park, not Park Ave?

24th Street isn't Downtown. Therefore this sale doesn't present a new record for Downtown.

Exactly, when people say Downtown, 24th Street isn't the first place that comes to mind.
