Migration is a big issue everywhere. It's sad knowing that the two men have to rely on remittance to survive. It was almost as if they were refugees. Many immigrants have to make tough choices like how these men had to. .Although they are in bad situations, I like how the artist uses his talent to show the troubles. I feel that doing this could help open some eyes on certain situations. I also dislike why people are skeptical of others coming from another country for work. Hopefully one day these issues can get resolved or at least close to it.
I would first like to say congratulations to Mr.George Butler for his creative pursuit and determination.I find it amazing that a simple artist was able to see these things and properly illustrate them.I also found it interesting that Mr.Butler found illustrating people gives him more of a sense of being there rather than just taking a picture.I also truly sympathise with the immigrants moving for work.Because if given the choice none of them would have let their families for work in a faraway place but they realized how even if they decided to stay their they could have not helped their families and therefore moved away from them in order to support them. This also kinda goes along with the ApHuGe gravity model in the fact that big countries attract more immigrants because of their size and how close they are to other countries.
For me, the issues of immigrants have always been a difficult choice for me to make. For example I always thought we should let migrants in because they never asked for what they go through. I also understand why people are cautious about bringing people in their country, some people believe what that they should come first. Although this makes sense, like stated before they never asked to be the way they are now. I believe it is the right thing to do to help people because if we don't humanity is going to fall apart. It's sad to see the discrimination happening to these people, but it makes you realize that this happen in the real world.
The story of Tajikstan is a great example of how some people are forced to live on remittances and family members in order to live because of the situations they are put into. And just because of someones unfortunate situation they can be fored to live a much poorer life than any one else. However, i do not think they deserve special treatment, and they should not go around and just bash law inforcement around the world. A country should be strict about who they let in because there are bad people out there in the world and it is difficult to screen a lot of people coming in at once. If you are in an unfortunate place you have to just deal with it and push through and work hard to escape the unfortunate situation you were placed into and show that it is possible to escape bad places without special treatment.
Economic failures are events that not only have a profound impact on the state of a country and the jobs it provides people with, it affects people on an individual level. The citizens of that nation will begin to look to other countries for job opportunities and become guest workers. They relocate to a new country and send money back to family, called remittances. This is a topic covered in depth by the video because the men needed access to a stable income, and the best way to do this was to leave their families to find work elsewhere. This also connects to migration trends in human geography because the people migrating were male, relatively young, and they migrated on their own. Even when immigrants go to the new country for work, they are not always permitted to stay due to lack of proper paperwork, which negatively impacts the lives of them and their families.
I don't really understand the discrimination against the guest workers travelling to Russia for remittances and survival. I see no valid reason to think poorly of someone because they are in my country to work. Unless there was a situation such as a food shortage in the country someone is going to work in, then what's wrong with that? What were the reasons for the civil war in Tajikistan? Was there a more diverse group present in Tajikistan that wasn't the same as the Tajik people that underwent devolution? Are there other countries supporting Tajikistan to help their economy? Were the Russians just being racist or were they against an increase in diversity and didn't want the Tajikistan culture diffusing to Russia? I thought it was interesting how George Butler drew. Drawing things to get a better understanding of the situation the drawing depicts is something I don't really think of.
I have heard of things like this before but I have never see the people in it or learned about them and their struggles like how they have no jobs in their country and they have to take care of their family. With the pull factors of jobs and getting money for their families and friends. I also like how the film club shows how they people who are staying in their home country and the ones who migrate to get a job and shows that the ones that stayed are happy but they can’t do anything to help each other and the ones that migrate are miserable but have a chance of sending remittance back home.
In this video what stood out to me was the things that happens to a country after a country goes through a traumatic personal experience such as war. Before watching this video i did not understand much about remittances or why they were so important to any country. Remittance is money migrants send back to family and friends in their home countries, often in cash, forming an important part of the economy in many poorer countries. The man in this video was forced to make a very hard decision, to either leave his wife and child of six months to go to Russia or stay with them and not go to Russia. He had a decision to make and i think he made the right choice. In this film it is what migrants have to go through to get jobs is thoroughly explained so i as the watcher understand their struggles and heartaches. This video also explained how even thought migrants migrate with good intentions of sending remittance yet they still get shot down for no reason. The intentions of these people are good and yet they are still getting mistreated and taken advantage of. Why is this? They are people with good intentions just like you and me.
Something in this video that stood out to me was the fact that they acted sort of like refugees in order to get simple things like just food because their country was destroyed in a war. I feel bad that they have to continuously migrate and that their government needs to fix everything that happened and get back up to par with everything else. Another thing that shocked me a little bit was the fact that once they went to Moscow for their jobs they get treated unfairly. It doesn't shock me that much because that's how they would treat immigrants but it's sad that they have to go through all that just to get something they need in order to survive.
I like the idea of the artist going around and documenting the people's stories but I don’t like the message shown in the video. I understand how the asians group of people need money because the price of their currency is going down but here is no need to bash law enforcement around the world. Why wouldn’t a country be strict about immigration and the people coming in? There is not one reason to be easy, it’s a safety issue that is important. In fact laws should be stricter to prevent bad people in your country. If you are in fact a good person then it doesn't matter it's hard to get into a country. The guys have to work which i get but they are getting paid so don't complain about getting work from another country. They should stay there longer to get more remittances for them and their families.
Personally, this video brought with it a lot of emotions, having witnessed situations like this firsthand. It's frustrating, watching events like this unfold. People are coming from war-torn countries, countries where jobs are scarce and conditions grave, and being attracted by pull factors in other countries with better economic opportunities. People migrate with the good intentions of sending remittance back home, and what are they faced with? They are discriminated against, they are taken advantage of, and they are deported for taking the jobs no one else will take. It's both depressing and angering. People are just trying to get by, trying not to let the circumstances get them down and do something productive, but sometimes it feels that others are determined to not let that happen.
There are many refugees and people seeking job opportunities around the world, so there is much migration going on 24/7. From this film, you get a really good understanding of how hard it is for the migrants to make their journeys, especially when there is a crashed stock market like the one mentioned in Tajikistan. This film does a great job of telling the migration story from their perspective. I was intrigued by the artwork that the artist made to spread the story. There is a lot of pressure in each station for travel. It is good that the migrants still have a good connection with their home because it's good to remember it when things get rough elsewhere. There are many pull and push factors influencing people at the same time, so they have to figure out which one outweighs the other. It's either no work and family, or no family and work that will allow the sending of remittance back home. However, the ending of the film provides a nice hopeful tone about the future of work for these people. Just as we go to find work in our local communities to support our families, these migrants deserve the chance to do the same where they live in order to support theirs.
Several of the paintings that were shown at the beginning of the video represented refugees in my eyes. Also his explanation of the work he does prior to showing his creation helped you make out what the paintings were depicting. Tajikistan is country that is very dependent on Russia because the citizens have no jobs in the country so they have to constantly go back and forth in order to earn a bit money and send back. The video was very heartbreaking, this country has the lowest economy status ever, these people rely on the money that is sent home from their love ones that are working in Russia. These people have no proper home, their homes do not consist of showers, comfy beds, and beautiful kitchens and living rooms. They are unable to acquire any of these things because their country economy is horrible and there is not much the government can do about it.
I found this video very relatable to concepts I have learned in AP Human Geography. One thing we learned is that the biggest driving factor in migration and an economic one and this is seen in the film with Tajik immigrants going to Russia in search of work. Jobs in Russia are a pull factor that entices them to go over to be able to send remittances or money back to their home countries. It’s weird to think that most of Tajikistan's economy comes from money outside of their own country. It would be interesting to know just how much money in total is being sent back to Tajikistan every year. The video really puts into perspective just how challenging it can be to get a job in other, less fortunate countries. It shows that we should be grateful that even though it can still be difficult to get a job in the US, it’s much easier and pays more than what George and others in Tajikistan are making.
This video deals a lot with the facts of the aftermath of what a country has to go through with dealing with a war and the consequences. It is devastating to know how hard it must be to regain and rebuild your country after going through a long-term and extensive war. They have to find go to other countries for better jobs and to attain an income to support their families which would be a pull factor because they are going to another country which can give them opportunities their country can't at the moment.
Before watching this video I had never really heard much about the countries in Central Asia. This year I learned about where they are and about some basic things but I didn't know what life was really like in Tajikistan specifically. The fact that they rely mostly on money sent to them from their family that's working outside the country was very shocking to me. I kind of understand the situation based on a different situation that also dealt with migrant workers. This situation was pretty different from the one I read about what was going on in Qatar. In this situation, the workers were allowed to leave and were deported very often but that was not the case in Qatar. The workers there were signed into contracts and not allowed to go home. Another thing I thought was interesting was the area of Tajikistan that was shown in the video. It all looked very barren and there wasn't much around. That was just the area that the families lived in though and while they did show a scene with the market I wish there was more of the country shown.
After watching I also understand more about remittances and why they can be so important. If the county was better off economically they would never have to go to Russia and wouldn’t want to either. Their treatment is getting worse as time goes on just because of where they come from. Russian police go through everyone’s bags and make sure they do not have drugs and also bring their dogs to check everyone. I understand why this is important but how it was portrayed in the video it seems that Russians have a want to sent them back to their countries because they do not belong their. At one time they said anyone who looks like a immigrant is targeted and searched no mater what and most don’t know their rights. It is becoming harder all around for immigrants and refugees. Most are busy trying to get a better life for themselves and their families. Their lives are already very hard and being treated worse by people of power is not helping their situation. I know that it is as a precaution but some people do too much out of worry when these people really need help.
I believe this is a brilliant way to show people the problems going on and tell people the most common experience when it comes to migration. And I think this shows how one can use there abilities or hobby to help and maybe change the world or even to help get your or others voices out there and made them heard. It's truly sad that he had to go to Russia and leave behind his family and not only that his wife and newborn that was only six months old. If I had to make that decision I don't think I would be able to because I would be torn between leaving my wife and newborn or go and get money so they can have a decent life.
While watching this video i felt bad for these migrators because it's not their fault and the countries government needs to do whatever it is to make it right because it is their job to promote general welfare which means to monitor businesses or the economy. There shouldn't be a reason why people are going to Moscow Russia 3 to 4 times. When they migrate to the new job areas they also aren't being treated well. When those places everyone is migrating to gets full everyone emigrates and goes somewhere else. Immigration and emigration affect the economy greatly and could have a very bad effect.
This is very sad and how people are suffering just because of how the country is and they can't leave because they don't even have the enough money to leave. They treat them poorly and they check them very good if they are going to leave the country. They start losing jobs and money and people aren't able to have enough money for their food. When the economy goes down people start migrating and that is when immigration starts happening and it happens all over the world.
After watching this video, i can realize how bad the problem are. It really is devastating how these people live from day to day. They immigrate to Russia for pull factors looking for jobs to support their family because of a push factor which was the civil war and the collapse of their economy. What makes this even worse is that once many of them get to russia, almost all of them get deported back home because they do not have the right cards etc. With the rise of immigration, no one really knows what to do about them. It is sad seeing all these people being turned away or turned down because of who they are and what ethnicity they come from. Countries from around the world need to start realizing that prejudice against people’s ethnicities is not right and we have to change that or else we can not achieve anything as a whole.
With low-income levels in these less developed counties and periphery areas, it results in the suffering of its population. The pull and push factors of these countries play a part in the migration to Russia. With more job opportunities and lack of income for these young Tajiks, man causes them to participate in the act of remittance which is when a foreign worker leaves his or her hometown and sends money back to their families. This film relates to many concepts that I am learning in class such as the Ravenstein's laws of migration. This law state that the typical gender and age of a person to migrate are young men. All in all, nothing surprised me other than the fact that discrimination is going on in these places where the cops harass these young men going into their country for a possibility of providing for their families. The police officers checking only the immigrants stood out to me and made me realize how similar many issues people face in America are to them. This film opened my eyes to understand how everywhere is not industrialized or more developed making me see the importance of allowing immigrants to work in these more developed countries.
This is very sad on how may people suffer so they have to go to a different country just to support themselves which shouldn't be happening at all just so that they can get remittance. Guest workers also get treated worse in the countries they are in which just makes this a lose lose situation as everyone suffers no matter what happens. Then facing against prejudice stopping them and then being sent back with no money and just wasted time. They have to go though so many steps just to get in. AP Human Geography really applies to here they also deal with borders and disagreeing on how they should be run which is called and operational boundary dispute. Clearly the border could be more lax bust still needs to have some people to keep the bad people out who are there to traffic drugs instead of helping their family back home.
With the crash of an economy of a country, not only do the jobs suffer but the whole population in general does. So the people of the country begin to look for other jobs outside the country; guest workers are these people in which relocate themselves to another country to send their remittances to their families. This idea is a large theme in the video because the men needed money and the only way to access this is through saying goodbye to their families and moving thousands of miles away. This video also supports the idea of Ravenstein's laws of migration. The laws state that usually the people in which migrate are young men and they migrate independently. In the video all the people who were young men and had to go through the trouble of migrating by themselves. Overall the concept is very depressing, and even so; the majority of the time migrants are sent back to their homeland because they do not have the correct papers.

Immigration is becoming a very prominent topic almost everywhere in the world, yet no one can seem to decide what to do about it. Everyone seems to disagree with everyone else. So many countries are having operational boundary disputes with others, and they can’t find a way to resolve the problem. Russia and Tajikistan are an example of this. The two countries are arguing over how the boundary should be used and patrolled. From a Tajik perspective, they are just trying to make money so that they can survive in a struggling economy. Since we don’t see the Russian perspective, I’m going to guess that they are just against most people from the region of Central Asia. It seems to be a one-sided argument. As we’ve seen recently with the issue of “The Wall” between the United States and Mexico, boundaries are very difficult to agree on. Some say that we should just let everyone move freely, while others want borders to be harshly patrolled. Personally, I feel that there has to be some administration, but I also feel that we need to enforce these borders without involving prejudice against people from certain areas. We need to start seeing people as people and not as their countries.
