This Week I chose the article entitled, "A Competitive Team Sport. For Your Dog." This article was by Jennifer Kingson and spoke about the sport for your furry friends. Flyball is a competitive multiplayer sport which has four dogs run a course 51 feet long with two foot wide hurdles. The dogs goal is to complete the course within a good time of 24 seconds. The dogs do not compete against each other, but, rather work within groups of four to compete against other teams. Many dog owners enjoy this sport for there animals because with a hyper dog it tires them easily.
This article interested me because I have a puppy at home. She is a four month old golden and is high strung. A sport like this and intense training would not only tire her, but keep her in shape. Sports for dogs are growing in popularity and therefore I could most certainly see my puppy competing with three pals. Though it seems rather odd to put dogs abilities on display, dogs need to get there exercise in somehow. Dogs are also sure to love the treats and praise they get if they win a competition. This article interested me because of how much it relates to my puppy and helps me think of new ways to keep her active.
Flyball seems like a fun sport for dogs to compete with each other, but it takes practice to learn how to play. This sport has been growing in popularity. I would play this sport with my dog if I had one.
Flyball is definitely a very unique sport for dog lovers or owners. It has been around for many years but just now in 2018 it seems to be gaining more popularity. I think that this is a very interesting sport and is definitely something that i wouldn't mind doing with my future dog.
My mixed terrier absolutely loved flyball! Unfortunately, we found a torn ACL later. Even though she was fit from long walks and regular exercis, be aware some dogs will put everything they have into it and injuries can occur.
I had a dog one time, Twinky, the Dutch breed, keeshhound.
She would be number 1 spectator.
Loved the story.
President Truman at one time said about Washington DC, " if you want friends around here, get a dog."
This takes it an entirely new level. Watching those videos, owners seem less disciplined than the athletes.
As an aside, why does NYT in sports pages (mainly) reporting on folks often tell us what they do and their titles.
Some of these titles seem to come straight out off The Onion - America's finest news source. Read their American voices and you will know.
Thanks for a joyful article.

My dog would not run even if you had steaks instead of whatever they are chasing after! He is just cool!

I asked my breeder if she thought flyball would be a good sport for my border collie. She said that the sport is very rough on the joints of participants. Dr. Lotsikas basically confirmed that in this article.
I agree that when you work your dog with a task you get a much better relationship. I am lucky that my boy gets to herd sheep and do other fun things.

I Love It. My Scotch Collie might have finally found her sport!

Is there a flyball tournament for cats?

Yes, it's called "sleeping all day on the heat register".

There are so many competitive events for dogs & their owners suitable for all levels of human & canine physical abilities & fitness. I have seen physically disabled owners compete with their dogs which inspire abled-bodied owners to reach for the stars. I've also seen a dog born without eyes hunt its heart out finding quail. The teamwork a dog & owner develop during training & competing can at times be miraculous to witness. I've been training & competing with my dogs in various venues for nearly 50 years & I'm still going strong.

These pictures are amazing. For a dog lover, I don't know if a picture of a dog playing and having fun COULD be bad but, all the same, these pictures made me smile widely. Although I doubt my dogs (two bullmastiffs) would be able to participate in these agility competitions. But maybe a cart-pulling competition?

My dog Lucky and I participated in flyball years ago—it was deliriously fun for both of us
