It is well worth following the link to the “Wikileaks” cable and reading what the ambassador had to say about the Missing Uzbek First Daughter in full...

At least the Uzbeks know, in their own way, to differentiate the apparently spoilt apple from the nationalist strongman tree.
This is unlike other short-memory &/or brainwashed nations where self-serving, tyrannical political dynasties of multi-generational personality cults (ex. Obiangs of Equatorial Guinea, Marcoses of the Philippines, Kims of North Korea, etc.) seem way too forgiving/tolerant/indifferent/enabling of certain avaricious, dictatorial offspring!
The apparent Uzbek national shame/contempt-based view of "she whose corrupt megalomaniac name is never worth mentioning" is the bad karma she seems to deserve.
Perhaps the Uzbeks view her like how the Iraqis viewed Uday Hussein - a disgraceful, ungrateful offspring who deserved to be beaten up/put in place by their powerful father, and further shamed/deserving of death after their parents are out of power.
I do feel bad, though, for her grown son and other family members (including that ex-husband whose entire family got exiled or jailed by her) for not having any real closure or detailed enough updates about her.
Looks like we'll all have an easier time finding Carmen San Diego and Waldo compared to figuring out this woman's status - in part because Carmen and Waldo do not share her proven Nero-like tendencies!

I actually thought this story was fascinating.

We could expect these things from Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow -- or even Emomali Rahmon -- but in the family of Islam Karimov? A shame. Hopefully the sun will shine again Registan Square one day.
Thanks for this interesting story. Answering the question raised: who cares.

Will DJT similarly turn on his wife/daughter as the noose draws closer? And how long will it take the U.S. to recover from the damage to its national psyche? How sad that our republic is now like a Central Asian banana republic.

Another stranger than fiction tale from the former USSR. While Googoosha sounds pretty despicable, the callous sexism and tolerance for violence against women throughout this story should be troubling to all of us.

To the author Rod: one doesn't "fall from disgrace," but rather, falls from grace.

That was an intentional play on words that almost no one but you noticed.

Personality cults are terrible things. How long will it take Uzbekistan to recover from the damage to its national psyche?
