These people don't care how many careers, institutions, and parts of our government they destroy in order to save this corrupt administration. The Republicans standing up for these actions are like those who lied about Vietnam in the 60s. So Republicans aren't embarrassed by having the world know they elected a corrupt scam artist, they will allow our law enforcement agencies to become subservient to the executive.
1
this takes absurclity to operatic heights. it also constitutes an admission
he is guilty
Don't complain, vote this November. Get everyone you know to vote or register to Vote.
That is the only way to clean the swamp of elephants.
Remember this November election is very important.
REGISTER AND VOTE!!

If the two spineless, gutless excuses for human beings - Ryan and McConnell - had stepped up and condemned the maniac, in public, loud and clear, the mess we are in now might well have been lessened. In fact, with their support, impeachment proceedings against the traitor in the White House could have begun.
But they are so fearful of losing a vote in a future election, so frightened of offending one of Trump's so-called base, that they have chosen silence and inaction. I think that in the end, showing some spine, showing that they are not embracing a dictatorship, could actually get them a net gain of votes.
Ryan, of course, has his eye on the White House. He is third in line if Trump and Pence are tossed out. And THAT would be a disaster. He is as bad as Trump in many ways, maybe worse than Trump because he has a brain. He is is not to be trusted, with his smirking and smug countenance. He is double-ultra conservative and anti-average Americans.
McConnell should have faded from the scene years ago. He is a caricature of a buffoon, double faced, not trust worthy. He does not deserve a place in the Senate.
As it stands, they do not deserve re-election. They deserve universal condemnation.
2
Another conspiracy theorist lawyer is attempting to muddy the waters for Trump. Next he will try to sell you the Brooklyn bridge. I cannot wait to see future cable TV episodes explaining why our best national law enforcement organization and the justice department are corrupt. It is like a Greek tragedy and difficult to understand why Republicans are rallying to support this convoluted effort to destroy the rule of law and our democracy.
Adding this man to the mix will be the president's attempt at a doomesday device. This talking head from FOX spills out conspiracy theories that are designed to infuriate FOX viewers (DJT included). Trump will face the facts of Mueller's investigation with all sorts of wild charges in the hope of turning things into a circus (a la OJ? ). He doesn't care if he burns down the republic in his defense.
1
Joseph diGenova should be ashamed of himself, accepting this criminal trumped up Trump
job against our honorable FBI. Is he a member of the Mafia? He should be investigated. Trump only hires people as despicably as evil as himself. I hope he gets seriously in trouble and goes to jail.
1
This is the same guy who thinks John Hinckley should never be let out of prison for shooting an elected president (Ronald Reagan), while he has no problems with the CIA assassination of Salvador Allende in Chile. In diGenova's ethical system, everything boils down to "We're us and they're them."
It's like watching "The Godfather" through cheap sunglasses.
A mob lawyer is usually a caricature or a joke. Not in the Trump Administration.
Nothing says world-class legal mind like a turtleneck.
5
Trump needs another spin doctor? I can't believe it!
For a man who is not guilty of a multitude of bad acts, he certainly seems to need to constantly lash out against those who he perceives to have slighted him, or misrepresent the kind of a life he's lived.
The real question, going back to my initial premise, is why all these folks working on nothing other than trying to change the perception of the man?
Trump is who he is, if you're willing to do a little digging into his background, you'll be able to figure it out, and it's not a very pretty picture.
Prejudice, bullying, infidelity, serial philandering, questionable business practices, utter lack of truthfulness, the list goes on and on. Not characteristics we'd want to pass on to the next generation.
3
Your headline is vague and misleading. It says Mr. diGenova believes the justice department framed the president. To be accurate Mr. diGenova believes SOME members of the justice department plotted to get Hillary Clinton elected president, and failing that to falsely accuse President Trump of collusion. That has already been shown to be true.
2
Lawyers!
The dirtiest profession in the history of humankind.
What might we learn from this?
That Ken Starr was a better prosecutor than Mueller because he was able to get a conviction with merely a subpoena for a stain on a blue dress?
Yes, there's probably been a conspiracy to miscarry justice, but not recently.
But, maybe there's another possibility:
that Vladimir (does that name "peaceful conqueror"?) is merely trying to help the US by providing us with a valuable civics lesson.
It's taking a bit longer than it took to galvanize the country with Pearl Harbor,
but it seems to be having a similar effect -- transforming a complacent country into one that is fully aroused, angry as hell, and doesn't want to take it anymore. Let's get this over using the star prosecutor we have. One who is faithful to the law, knows how to fight, keeps his cool, served his country, maintains his dignity, loves his family, and will go to any length to protect a Constitution that begins with "We the People...."
I'm sure he'll do it without resorting to a public display of stained bedsheets.
Trump made his bed, let him lie in it.
And let the rest of us get this over with so we can move on
and take some time to ROAR (Rebuild Our American Reputation) and re-enter the national and international communities with respect.
1
They know. All else has failed so they have a lawyer now who will make up an entire scenario and then sell it to the American people on FOX.
"And what rough beast, its hour come at last,
Slouches toward Bethlehem to be born?" Yeats
1
Just look at him! I can feel his bite.
The FBI is an honorable institution that Trump is using as a scapegoat merely to save his skin from the punishment he deserves for colluding with Russia in the 2016 election.
I believe Trump to be the most evil president we have ever had. There is no lie big enough that he wouldn’t tell. There is no “Deep State” either. That too is a grievous lie. What’s really here is a deeply corrupt government run by a traitorous president and his desperate cronies. He has sold his very soul to the devil and No lawyer no matter how criminal. can save him. The truth will come out.
6
Don't underestimate diGenova. He may be a nut, who would be worthless in court, but that's not what he's been hired for. This guy's role is to spread Fear Uncertainty and Doubt. He doesn't need to convince people, just make it sound like there's two sides to the story. It's like the Creationism tactic: once he gets invited on TV in order to have a "balanced" debate, he's won.
4
I the glove doesn't fit, we must aquit.
The FISA judge who was friendly to certain FBI officials and was hearing the Flynn case was recused (he didn't recuse himself). I suspect the reason this was done was because someone or some agency was on to what these people (Obama administration, FBI officials, and Brennan, etc.) were up to. The FBI officials in question made no secret of their hatred for Trump and their willingness to get him out of office. Was there a mole amongst those they were conspiring with? Did someone get spooked and in the interest of self-preservation tell someone who could do something about it (like US Marshalls) about the plan? Is Page and Strzok singing right now? Whoever it was, there is no doubt that the removal of that judge is a major clue that someone or some agency was on to what these people were doing. I have no doubt we'll all learn the truth soon.
2
Trump is a paranoiac for all seasons too,.
Comey did nothing inadvertently. He (and McCabe) improperly discussed the Clinton investigation several times before the election, including the two letters reopening the investigation in the last 11 days. Every new prosecutor learns not to discuss an investigation until and only until an indictment or information is issued.
2
A prosecutor employs a team of investigators who communicate with each other. You folks go "EEK!, a mouse!" when other people breathe.
1st off, the analysis of Joe diGenova is based on a 99 page FISA court ruling from Apr 26, 2017 https://rmstock.files.wordpress.com/2018/01/top-secret-fisa-court-order-... publioshed with redactions, two weeks before FBI Director Comey got fired. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aa95jLxZfc4 Next we had the firing of the FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe by Jeff Sessions, after reviewing the Inspector Gereral Report : "The Inspector General's report is thought to include evidence of outgoing Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe ordering agents to alter "302" forms - the paperwork an agent files after interviewing someone." https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-03-16/ex-fbi-asst-director-says-upco... There is not many room left for conspiracy theories after the 99 page FISA court ruling and the Inspector General report will become public without redactions.
2
I find it hard to believe and you hear it all the time, that the Trump base is with him no matter what! Really?!?! I guess we will find out come November. I hope there is a God.
1
I don’t think Trump’s criticism of Mueller reflects his increasing frustration, I think it’s the result of firing more sane people and surrounding himself with more far Right wackos.
1
Wow, some serious paranoia going on here with Trump et al.
2
Very imaginative viewpoint. Hire him right away as a creative consultant. He'll be gone quickly so watch closely.
Other sources report this guy also represents Erik Prince?! How is this legal?
4
It all depends on which judge gets the case.
Maybe he is doing the Trump gig pro-bono since he knows Trump will stiff him in the end anyway.
1
Mr. diGenova's wife represents Mr. Prince. There is nothing illegal about that, @paula. One must read the story to get the facts of the story straight. No matter. Trump will be charged with obstruction and a host of national security related crimes.
1
Was Mr. diGenova the "Real or Fake, We Present It, You Guess?" game show host on FOX "News" (yes, game show host. Featured segment on FOX "News.") before he took a leave of absence from Trump University (f)Law School? Does Mr. diGenova write science fiction short stories or does he edit the Encyclopedia of Trump "Facts?"
Mr. diGenova was once uploaded into an alien flying saucer from Jupiter, prodded with long spiral and dull needles, and dissected with a meat cleaver before he was returned to earth to join the Trump legal team.
Of course, neither Mr. diGenova's background nor his legal credentials is amazing. What is amazing is the number of people who will believe Mr. diGenova's story, "Tales of Trump," and his sequel, "How Dumb Are Americans?"
4
Good for Trump. Fight fire with fire.
5
Fighting fire with fire sounds good, but I wish Trump would stop playing his violin while the country burns down around him. It's time to get serious, not crazy.
It appears Trump has gone from "there's nothing there" to ok there is something there but I've been framed.
It's a preemptive strike before the deluge.
He's not fighting fire with fire, he's fighting fire with desperate fear.
1
Can we stop calling this a "theory" and call it what it really is -- a lie?
7
No matter how many times you repeat a lie, it never becomes the truth.
Expect more cable noise! Husband and wife were regular cable news fixtures during the Clinton era.
1
To think that so many have sacrificed so much to protect this county from destruction by outside elements; who would ever have thought it would come from inside the U.S., let alone the president.
More disturbing is that one man could abridge the entire structure of our legislative branch.
10
The President is just their hood ornament. The engine driving this treason is the AFP organizations. I wish the oligarchs weren't so good at keeping their ugly faces off the front pages. Every one of their engineered events should be traced back to them.
1
This is all going to make a hilarious musical. Some day.
1
Nothing makes us happier than to see Trump hire third-rate, bottom-drawer legal hacks.
8
Another Fox News talking head.
What could possibly go wrong for David Dennison with this choice?
This is the same attorney that wrote an op ed in the WSJ in '99 warning that Clinton was not protected by presidential immunity. That's right he did.
What a joke.
Another hour in this utter train wreck of this pathetic and corrupt administration.
11
I finally figured out how Trump's gonna keep his campaign promise to "drain the swamp."
1) First, hire them into the White House.
2) Second, berate them, demean them, make them sell out their ethical values, destroy their careers.
3) Then, fire them!
4
Simply put, Mr. diGenova is a loon. His career is the evidence.
3
Still hiring the best, I see.
7
Because of the continuation of this ridiculous chaos in the Oval Office, our country is becoming more and more vulnerable to those who wish to harm us. I thought I was scared when DJT was elected.......now I'm terrified!
8
The bedrock question here is whether there's any such thing as a self-evident truth. The GOP for decades has behaved as though narrative, and not empirical reality, is the determinant of truth. Trump is president because he embodies that behavior better, more aggressively, more recklessly, and with more spectacle, than any of the shills on the GOP roster were able or willing to do. Romney called him on it, or tried to, but having used that tool himself with just a little more self-control, he was nobody to say that Trump couldn't.
Arrayed on the other side is what remains of the reality-based community. Law, science, business must all accede to and use self-evidence in every process. Equal justice, scientific proof, even GAAP accounting all rest on the bedrock of fact, evidence, and proof.
Trump's new flack might provide good theater, but freedom is the freedom to say that two and two make four. Trump, Sekulow, deGenova, and all the shills on earth can't change that. That's what Trump's GOP is up against right now.
9
Unfortunately, human language does not self-organize as objectively as the universal language of mathematics.
I just wrote a few minutes ago, but when I saw this, I couldn't help myself!! Mr Joseph E. diGenova has got to be, for sure by looking at him, Steve Bannon's evil twin! or switched at birth. (Hey! Wait, is that possible?!) God help us all!!!
5
Add Joseph diGenova to John Dowd and the list of barristers feeding at the trump trough.
They all know that trump is going to go down hard but they do not want to miss out on the billable hours.
5
Trump's lawyers should be paid up front or they may not be paid. If they are paid it must be with money coming out of Trump's pocket, not other people's. Knowing of Trump's asymmetrical handling of his own versus other people's money, this is a tempting area where Trump may error, which means, be Trump.
2
So the guy who argued against the Ethics in Government act is Trump’s new lawyer? And he happens to have an Eric Prince connection? The same Eric Prince who is working with Oliver North to pitch his “private spy agency” to the Trump administration so they don’t have to rely on the good ‘ol CIA and NSA any more?
9
Definitely not the best people
Some would say not even humane
Another new low
2
Old Joe diGenova, just about the swampiest guy you could hope to find in Washington, now going to work for Trump and his cronies.
9
Trump's latest tweets and actions clearly demonstrate that he is planning to eliminate the Special Prosecutor, sooner rather than later. Republicans have demonstrated over and over again that while they may promise to act if and when this happens, they will do nothing. The only question now is, should this firing take place, what will we, as American citizens, do?
8
“ 'Make no mistake about it: A group of F.B.I. and D.O.J. people were trying to frame Donald Trump of a falsely created crime.'
"Little evidence has emerged to support that theory."
Actually, no such evidence has emerged to support what is a fable, not a theory. It's at extraordinary times such as these that I fear relying on the old niceties of journalistic form does us no good service.
14
Meanwhile, at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, Lorne Michaels leans back in his office chair, quietly tents his fingers, and smiles.
5
diGenova?
What? The high point of diGenova's career was having Hinckley stashed away in a mental hospital
Throw in Victoria Toensing and you have a couple just made for Trump.
A couple of media hogs -- only publishable word I could think of.
8
Oh look, our "100% innocent" president needs more lawyers.
16
And smoke and mirrors. That should do it.
4
Amplification for the echo chamber.
5
Couple thoughts:
- wonder why the Emmett T. Flood angle did not work out. Could it be he concluded that defending Trump was hopeless and inevitably destructive of his own career? Hmm.
- it's really hard to imagine that many at the FBI were supporting Hillary Clinton. On the contrary, I'm still waiting for the details on that coterie of pro-Trump agents in NY who kept feeding Giuliani with juicy tidbits against her during the campaign.
9
DiGenova was involved in that too.
4
Mr. diGenova also announced today that he would not take money for Mr. Trump, instead he would be paid in the secrets of the Trump comb-over, a secret technique that many consider priceless, and valued at over $2000 per hour in legal fees.
10
An out of control person...reaching for a life raft.
2
Victoria Toensing (diGenova’s wife) ring a bell with anyone? She was all over television blasting Bill Clinton in the Lewinsky brouhaha. She tried (very unsuccessfully by the way) to argue that Valerie Plame was not undercover when President Cheney outed her. And, she did everything she could to pin the uranium deal on Hillary (which, as we know, got nowhere). Expect more of the same, especially if you can stomach Fox News.
16
NUTS! The clown car must STOP! Conspiracy theory is NUTS! This "so called" president can't wait until he fires Mueller who is trying to get to the truth. His dirty way he fired McCabe is disgraceful. The person is ABUSING is power and NO ONE IN THE GOP is stopping this "so called" president from stopping him instead they sit by the cowardly stance shame on them little do they know everyone is fed up with the untruths, thievery that is robbing us all. Shame on the GOP for letting this happen power or not these people in a very large clown car will lose in 2018.
8
We can fix this, but only if we VOTE.
If it's a just boring old primary in a gerrymandered state on a day when you already have too many things to do, VOTE. If you don't like any candidate, select the less or least bad choice and VOTE. If your state is working hard at voter suppression, jump through all the hoops and VOTE. If you aren't registered, get yourself in high gear and get registered so you can VOTE. If you are tired to near death of all the political house manure, hold your nose and VOTE. If you don't have time to decide, talk to someone you trust and VOTE.
We can fix this, but only if good and reasonable people VOTE.
On November 6th, 2018, with your primary vote behind you, just VOTE.
We don't need impeachments, we don't need bullets, we just need to VOTE.
16
The recent election of Conor Lamb in PA demonstrates just how important your single vote can be.
9
And all those other times, when you can’t VOTE, because it isn’t election day, PROTEST!
8
a Hypothesis not a Theory. Like another reader correctly pointed out. Either way, Donny need not worry cause there is no collusion right? He need not hired another whack job to his defense team really. Sad. So Sad. Maybe this guy would come handy with the Stormy case. Everyone on the count 3, repeat after the Team Donny - no collusion ( with caps lock on)
There was no collusion. There was a criminal conspiracy that very well may be ongoing.
6
Another Attorney who is paying their fees?
5
How many lawyers does an innocent President need?
22
Mr. Genova argued that a sitting President was not immune from indictment. He did so when Clinton was President. He argued that no President was above the law. Thanks very much Mr. Genova for reminding us of that!
22
A sitting president can only be indicted by Congress, as Clinton was.
3
Regardless of the outcome of all this, Donald Trump has lowered the office of President to a state it may may never recover from. I still despise that SC congressman who interrupted an Obama State of The Union to scream "you lie". His lack of respect for the office was despicably unjustified. But the babyman occupying the post now routinely ridicules people and institutions that are far greater and more professional than anything he has ever been: he has authorized fifth-grader communications tricks and there is no reason not to return that same level of basic human respect
13
It seems fairly clear that Trump is hiring this guy as a public mouthpiece. Not that Trump himself doesn't spout off any conspiracy theory that comes to mind, but now he'll have someone to float out every crazy theory about Mueller that he has surely been advised by current counsel to avoid. As Trump spirals down the rabbit hole of knowledge that justice is at hand - he will swing more wildly at the fences. This is a wild swing indeed, and will be welcome only by the staunchest FOX news/Trump supporters. I cannot imagine this new counsel will strike fear in the hearts of the Special Counsel.
By all means though - I am glad to see Trump continues to spend his considerable fortune on more attorneys. He really looks like anything but an innocent man.
7
It seems like a stupid strategy to hire people in charge of keeping you out of legal jeopardy on the basis of how much they say what you want to hear.
7
HALLELUJAH! It is true. The swamp thought Hillary would get elected and their bad deeds would never come to light. Why did McCabe take notes talking to the President? Why didn't the FBI take notes of HIllary's "interview" over the Fourth of July weekend 2016? The reason: the FBI knew that she would not be charged. She was magically exonerated two days later. Why doesn't Mueller work that fast? I love Joe Di Genova.
3
Better wear your life jacket if you're sailing on the Trump-DeGenova Boat. All aboard are going under
10
How earth would you know whether the FBI took notes after HRC's interviews? You don't. You're just another right winger blinded by ideology. Why on earth would you sacrifice any semblance of honesty and objectivity and just plain fairness for . . . Donald Trump? That's what's unfathomable to the rest of us. Why sell yourself so cheap? For an obvious charlatan.
And most people who have active roles to play in a process take notes either at or after an important meeting. Or are you unaware of that?
12
If you are doing something relatively unusual, like meeting with POTUS, it is routine for FBI agents to take notes afterwards to record what happened. Lawyers do this too after meeting with clients.
6
You can't make this stuff up. You just can't!
9
Bring on the clowns! Dennis Rodman may be next in line for Secretary of State. The reality TV maven (aka POTUS) brings on yet another actor.
7
Haha! Donald John will probably invite Rodman to go with him IF there iactually is a meeting. Actually that might be as good an idea as he can manage.
When you are dealing in fiction, you can write/say almost anything and see if the intended audience believes it/finds it compelling. A lie is only a lie in this sense if it is discovered/ poorly manufactured. This President is either living in a solipsistic fantasy world where all his assertions are true or he is engaging in a serious effort to lie to the public. Either way, we are all in danger. Yesterday I asked my father, who is a Republican, why someone would claim everyone else is corrupt and engaged in conspiracies against them? He responded because they themselves are corrupt. In Trump's solipsism, the Mueller investigation/investigatory team are hopelessly corrupted and biased, composed of "hardened" Democrats with conflicts of interest. Why would they go after him? Trump's/Trump's family/cabinet members' own conflicts of interest are moot, because of course, Trump is incapable of doing wrong. A man who has paid his way out of and had messes cleaned up for him his entire life is in his own head: an excellent businessman, wonderful father, impeccable husband, and loved by all. Trump has finally entered an office where he will be held accountable. After the post-mortem of this administration is complete we will probably discover to what extent hopelessly corrupt individuals can go when they are in power. I hope this episode in American history does not end in widespread political violence. Other episodes in world history dictate that it just may.
10
Trump hires only the best people and his latest is Joseph E. diGenova. Will Mr. diGenova appear in Court? No. Only on television to give voice to conspiracy theories. Putin's puppet needs no conspiracy; Trump is doing himself in with each tweet. Currently, Trump has diminished himself so much that there's nothing left to hate, only pity. The shame he's brought on to his youngest son. Sad. So sad.
7
So we have two theories to chose from. Either the whole world is intricately and meticulously conspiring to frame Trump, or Trump is guilty. Ockham’s Razor says the simpler one is most likely to be true.
21
With the constant refrain of partisanship by Republicans, why do I never hear Dems bring up the Whitewater investigation, which was headed by a very partisan Ken Starr for years and investigated everything the Clintons had ever done.
2
Because, Whitewater never brought the Clintons down which was the reason for the GOP led witch hunt.
2
And why did we never hear a word from Rs about the cost in taxpayer dollars of the SEVEN Benghazi investigations. To this say they stand as the epitome of a witch hunt.
And why do we no longer hear "character matters!" out of the mouth of every other R as we did - incessantly - during the Clinton years?
Apparently, character only matters for Republicans when presidents are Democrats
5
It lead to the impeachment. The Starr investigation went from WW to Travelgate to Vince Foster to all of the sexual assault allegations and that’s how we ended up with the Lewinsky scandal and the obstruction of justice & perjury charges.
2
Please do not call it a theory, it is a hypothesis. When reputable new organizations such as yours use the word theory to describe something that is unproven it cheapens the word when it is used to describe the highest level of scientific knowledge. It is no wonder uneducated people dismiss the theory of evolution or theory of relativity. Do better New York Times!
13
There is "little evidence" to support a frame up of candidate or President Trump. I guess text messages by multiple FBI agents confessing so, using false Oppo research from Hillary to obtain FISA warrants, and leaks from McCabe and Comey are chopped liver.
3
Parts of the dossier have been corroborated. The FBI text messages were between 2 people who were dating, and they make disparaging comments about both Trump and Hillary. They were professionals who could do their jobs despite personal feelings, and they were rightfully removed from the investigation to eliminate the appearance of bias.
The FISA warrants started because of blabbermouth Papadopoulas and Carter Page. The dossier was part, but not the only part. They also had intercepts passed on from our allies overseas. The FISA warrants couldn’t have been renewed without real intelligence being disclosed as having been obtained. In other words, if Trump’s employees and associates hadn’t put themselves in such situations as to raise suspicions, none of this would have happened. HRC’s campaign did nothing with the dossier. It only got out because Steele was so concerned about possible illegality on the part of Trump + associates that he made sure it got out and also gave it to an acquaintance/contact in the FBI so they could follow up.
Lie down with dogs, you’re gonna get fleas.
3
FBI agents can, and do, have opinions. There is nothing that indicates the opposition research was false. The information released about that warrant indicates, specifically, that Steele's dossier was presented and taken as INDIRECT evidence and was not the decisive factor. Come back when you have a clue.
1
Which parts of that slanderous dossier have been corroborated?
1
The Sean Hannity of criminal defense lawyers.
15
Unlike other supposed liberals, I do not trust the intelligence community, FBI, or right wing Republican prosecuter Mueller, who defended torture and illegal war in Iraq during his tenure as FBI director. Trump represents a threat to all of the status quo, the good and the bad, and Muellers agenda is to defend the bad (ie the entrenched, law enforcement, intelligence, military industrial complex that has the power of a 4th branch of govt). IMO, the president has constitutional power to fire high ranking law enforcement officials for any reason, and exercising that power cannot and should not be illegal. It keeps the law enforcement community accountable to an elected president. If there is underlying illegal conduct by pres, then this is the very reason congress was given the independent authority to investigate and file articles of impeachment. If you think he's done something illegal, demand such an investigation from congress, go to their Town Halls (the way we defended ACA), or vote a new congress in that will investigate impeachment. The fact that there hasnt been a grassroots push for impeachment thus far is because most "evidence" of Trump's illegalities are constructed and driven by a corporate media narrative. Think I'm wrong? Go do the hard work of rallying congress to impeach with the power of people, just like we did with healthcare. But please stop lazily relying on a rogue Republican prosecutor whose main goal is to defend the deep state.
2
Seems like a lot of unjustified speculation into Mueller's motives.
Do you really not believe that the President should be liable to investigation by any actor other than professional politicians, many of whom are members of his political party? That position seems to almost straightforwardly entail that you think that the President is above the law, since you think he should only be accountable to political actors.
A more moderate and sensible position would be to hold that the remedy to unlawful conduct by the President is a political act (impeachment), but that the investigation of violations of the law itself be independent. Otherwise, the public isn't in a position to vote on facts it's not made aware of by political actors in the President's party who have every reason to keep those facts hidden (cf. the deplorable conduct of the House Intelligence Committee).
5
Congress has the constitutional and statutory power to uncover facts (subpoena, gathering testimony under oath) just like a prosecutor, and unlike a judicial criminal proceeding, there is no requirement of near unanimity by a jury. And by the way most career politicians are lawyers.
And I think you and other liberals are living a wonderful fantasy by convincing yourself that Mueller is independent. There is plenty of evidence and good reason to believe that FBI had it out for Trump.
Most politicians want to get reelected more than stay loyal to their party. See Nixon impeachment support, which was generally bipartisan. There just has to be enough pressure from people for them to realize their reelection is in danger. I still trust will of people, even those that mistakenly voted for trump. Apparently establishment dems/liberals do not.
Mueller could not be farther from a "rouge prosecutor." His entire career bespeaks exactly the opposite. You have not a shred of evidence to support that ridiculous claim.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A "DEEP STATE." If you take off your tin foil helmet for a minute you'll see that. It's merely another fabrication of the far right to contort the truth to reflect more favorably on a deeply flawed and in-way-over-his- head president.
7
Trump and his lawyer are both delusional. If he is innocent, why is he trying to fire everyone who is investigating? If it walks like a duck...
12
It is amazing how this one person... Donald Trump has the whole world involved in a coordinated conspiracy to foil his good deeds. It is even more amazing that people of his own choosing fall into this "deep state" trance and need to be fired... over and over and over again. What are the odds? How can one man be so unlucky,
9
This is yet another pathetic GOP attempt to rewrite history.
The fact is: the FBI harmed Hillary much more than Trump.
By the time that Comey announced the "closing" of the FBI's investigation of Hillary's email server, that investigation had been hanging over her head for over a year. The damage was done, as Republicans had been falsely claiming for over a year that Hillary was under criminal investigation. If anything, we should investigate why it took the FBI over a year to wrap up an "investigation" that should have taken, at most, two to three months. What exactly took so long? It would be very interesting to see a log of the investigation, because -- given the stakes involved -- it's near impossible to justify the FBI's dilatory pace. I suspect a log of the investigation will show the FBI investigators sat on their hands for months and then rushed in June-July 2016 to close the investigation.
And then, of course, Comey's fatal "October surprise" ten days before the election.
Whereas the FBI's investigation of Trump campaign collusion with the Russians was conducted in secrecy.
So how was Trump's campaign adversely affected by something that was not public knowledge? Yet another case of Republicans trying to make themselves out to be the victims when they are actually the oppressors.
Oh, and by the way -- the FBI has never been known to be a hotbed of radical liberal leftist Democrats. Quite the contrary.
9
I remember watching Mr. DiGenova on Fox during the Hillary Clinton FBI investigation. He implied he had inside information from FBI sources that HIllary Clinton would be indicted over the e-mail scandal. He said that there would be a revolt in the FBI by the rank and file agents if there wasn't an indictment. I didn't believe it then. And of course, it wasn't true. The guy has no credibility, but is a partisan hack with a taste for conspiracy theories. He is a perfect fit for the President.
11
I remember that day too. Now he's says they are all Democrats trying to frame Trump. How do these people sleep at night?
2
Forget about the "A Team"; Trump has surrounded himself with sycophants and fools; Mel Brooks couldn't even write this type of farce.
11
from an old NYTimes article titled: Why Rational People Buy Into Conspiracy Theories "They found, perhaps surprisingly, that believers are more likely to be cynical about the world in general and politics in particular. Conspiracy theories also seem to be more compelling to those with low self-worth, especially with regard to their sense of agency in the world at large. Conspiracy theories appear to be a way of reacting to uncertainty and powerlessness."
5
Every week, a new low. Three more years? By then, Dr. Vinny Boombotz will be Surgeon General.
3
A Trump legal team without a bona fide cable TV conspiracy theorist is a contradiction in terms, so this is nothing if not preordained. It's all about showmanship, at least until the United States Constitution gets the last laugh.
3
Washington Post reports today that diGenova wrote an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal in 1997, when Clinton was being impeached, arguing that it is legal for a sitting president to be indicted on criminal charges. I wonder what he would say if asked about that now that the shoe is on the "right" foot.
5
There's money to be made! The swamp is getting deeper, not drained.
4
A theory with no evidence isn't a theory - it's a lie.
4
As soon as Mueller subpoenaed the trump financials he’s scared and started growling. Now mueller knows where to look.
5
I was wondering where Joe G has been since the "no drama Obama" years ended.
I doubt that this attention-seeking legal hedgehog has any solid evidence to support his allegations. All hat...... Welcome to the WH circus! Can't wait for election day and a Democratic landslide.
8
- as I just found out that Trump is just a temporary "meme" - or a bunch of "sick tweets" - and everything and everybody who even comes in touch with this... this... ."thing" - happens to deconstruct itself in the most hilarious way -
I really - really enjoy it.
1
People see what they want to see, or in this case, what Donald want's them to see. If anyone framed Donald, it was Donald, by the decisions he made along the way.
3
Mr. diGenova seems to be on thin ice, with regard to mandatory lawyers' ethical prohibitions, when he throws around conspiracy theories about the FBI and DOJ with no evidence. Will anyone file a bar complaint if he crosses too many lines?
8
I hope this "legal eagle" is smart enough to ask for his payment up front, 'cause Donnie will stiff him like he does everyone else, regardless of the outcome.
5
Do you think Donnie is personally paying these legal eagles? My thought is he’s handing those bills to the good old US Treasury.
2
Just wait for the Inspector General's report - tick tock... hear that? It's the footsteps of lady justice -Comey, McCabe, Strok, Clapper, Rice...they're going down and every American, no matter their political party, should be concerned about its government spying on American citizens and using a phony political hack job dossier to get a warrant.
2
Obviously, you aren’t up on all of the facts regarding the FISA warrants. Come back when you’ve done your homework.
3
I can't shake the thought of the three little pigs. I trust that Mueller is putting the finishing touches to a brick house that can't be blown away by the big bad wolf; or, in this instance the big bad wolves.
3
Bobby D.... as brash as they come. Just the type of lawyer to whom we would expect our President to desperately resort. His name became known to us all, fittingly, was in defending OJ Simpson.
He’ll be gone before long too. Oh wait, has he even been hired yet?
4
This guy must be very clever!! he will be milking Donald J. Trump and Co. slowly but surely dragging a stupid but happy client through the narrows of investigations and prosecution making a large amount of money. My advice to Trump would be: by all means, hire the guy but do it on contingency!!!
2
Any minimally ethical attorney asked to "defend" their client would advise no defense is practical or even possible until they are charged with a crime. in the real world, a professional joining a legal team before charges are made would define his or her role, perhaps, based on "facts" relayed by the team or the client, represented as true, that might expose the client to endictment or accusation by witnesses. At best, strategies could be used to determine exculpatory evidence, witnesses, and justifications that are stated as true, provable or not, investigating if any of these "facts" can be proven true. if a new attorney is added as a hired mouthpiece to defend previous actions as legal and therefore not indictable, it follows that the purpose is to interfere with a lawfull investigation by attacking valid legal process. it's hard to understand why a judge wouldn't order any liscensed attorney to silence since they are acting counter to their client's best interest by drawing attention to and abetting obstruction. If the lawyer claims attorney-privileged status, the judge could rightly require private disclosure under oath immedistely to determine if the attorney was abetting obstruction of a Federal investigation. As tired of pundit spin as we become, a hired attorney cannot defend his client until the client is charged. If the attorney states his client is being harassed, he should file a motion in the proper Federal Court with proof.
2
Trump is a scoundral, admitted womanizer a renowned liar and a cheat. The FBI is largely comprised of hard working American citizens and the notion that Senior FBI officials were/are trying to"frame" Trump is beyond laughable.
Trump has acted solely out of self interest his entire life. He is incapable of ever being wrong or at fault.
I am curious as to what it will take for all these Trumpians to get WOKE!
6
So Mr. diGenova asserts there was a DOJ and FBI effort to first deny Trump the Presidency, and when that failed, to then frame the Precedent. And I suppose he will soon point to the first meeting that was held to hatch this cabal took place in the basement of a D.C. pizzaria, on a day when the Hillary-lead child sex ring had the day off.
Until this guy rose up from the "swamp", I had held U.S. Attorneys, and ex U.S. A's on a very high pedestal.
4
Oh dear God. Another blast from the past. I'm waiting for Judge Ito to show up. Why not?
4
This dude and his wife simply make up stuff^2. They rant and rave, but their claims are patently unprovable, one way or the other. They get great press as "big time" Washington, D.C. lawyers. It's hard to believe that someone actually hires these clowns.
6
Trump is a fool. Mr. diGenova is yet another lawyer who will tell him what he wants to hear and gladly take a large chunk of Trump's ill-gotten fortune (billed in 10-15 min. increments of course) to do so. I (and others) can come up with a hair-brained conspiracy theory for Trump's cult to follow and will charge far less than diGenova.
5
I learned in my first day of law school that the opinion of a lawyer is argument not evidence.
10
And just how does Mr. diGenova explain the guilty pleas of Mike Flynn, Richard Gates, and George Papadopoulos? How does he explain that it was the latter, not the Steele dossier, the led the FBI to open an investigation into the Trump campaign? And how does he explain Carter Page's involvement with later convicted Russian spies years earlier eventually leading to his FBI surveillance just after he left the Trump campaign? And, then, of course, there's the meeting in Trump tower with top Trump campaign officials and Russians seeking relief from sanction under the Magnitsky Act for "dirt" on Hillary Clinton. It will take a much more convoluted Rube Goldberg conspiracy theory that doesn't pass Occam Razor's test of parsimony to blame this all on some "deep state" conspiracy on the part of the Justice Department and FBI when the much more plausible hypothesis that the real "conspiracy" was and is between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
9
Oh, but the Trump base eats it up with a spoon...
1
Let's not miss the forest for the trees. Yes, this particular episode deals with Trump and his administration, but the Orwellian world in which we currently live did not spring overnight from Trump's head. 30 years of calculated strategy on the right has habituated a large segment of the electorate to believe that there are no such things as facts, and has propagated the fantasy that our national government is one vast conspiracy against the people. This manure is essential for Trumpism to grow and prosper.
8
It's not possible that the Trump campaign was unaware of the support they were receiving from Russia. The fact that they continued to meet Russians throughout their campaign is evidence of that! What is really startling to me is that Republicans don't care that Russia meddled in our elections. In conversations I've been told that the US is wasting tax payer money on an investigation into what degree the Trump campaign was involved in this meddling. To call oneself a patriot and wave the American flag, but not to be outraged that Russia was involved in messing up our election... THAT is the true horror of our times.
9
Any fair investigation seeks all relevant evidence. This is how an investigation arrives at the truth, and it is exactly what distinguishes it from a witch hunt. Mr. diGenova should indeed bring his facts to the investigation. But lawful judgement is not swayed by popular opinions, tweets in all caps, white lies, and boasting. I predict Mr. Trump will be disappointed again.
31
Mr. diGenova has had a storied career and has been a force to be reckoned with in Washington legal circles. Staunchly Republican, he opposed the Clintons in 1998 with a vengeance and it was back then that he had become known as someone who liked to pass on gossip & conspiracy theories. Fast forward 20 years and it looks like he's at it again. But with the Clinton-Lewinsky affair he was on the attack against a President who had little in the way of defenses.
Joining the Trump defense team he comes armed with his imagination & more conspiracy theories. He's perfect for Trump, but this time he's attacking the FBI & the DOJ and in effect the OSC as well. These are different adversaries & lodging half baked conspiracy theories at them is a disservice to every party involved including the country. Maybe he feels its not too late in his career to take on one more big fight. But it is not "work of noble note" and he will be mocked as an Infowar clone which is unbecoming of a man who is still looked at as a pillar of the DC bar.
3
Sorry, I just cannot respond to any more Trump madness. Got to turn him off, now.....
13
Great. Now he's now only surrounding himself with sycophants and Russian sympathizers, but now he's reaching out to fringe conspiracy theorists. Mueller really needs to speed things up, the country is being damaged on a daily basis.
10
So a "secretive group of F.B.I. agents concocted the Russia investigation as a way to keep Mr. Trump from becoming president"...
...And they did this at a time when not a single person believed Trump had any chance to win???
6
Trump is clearly shopping for the best conspiracy theories. Only the best.
7
Someone should keep an eye on this, my guess is Trump will pay his lawyer fees through his re-election funds
5
A conman conning a conman. They are quite the admiration society with each other to admire.
9
Ok. Trump's defense plan du jour regarding the Russian inquiry is to hire a platoon of attack dog lawyers, namely because innocent wealthy folks believe in stimulating the economy via using legal fees as a conduit for trickle down economics. Plan B? Have cabinet members and senior staffers play musical chairs, leaving the slow-footed to walk the plank. Goodbye Sarah Huckaby Sanders.
2
The New York Times and the media in general needs to stop getting played by Donald Trump. The strategy is to create chaos. The probandum that Donald Trump and the people who work for him are shameless liars has been proven. You cannot believe a word that comes out of their mouths. So what. This is the real question. Why do they persist? It is all about preventing having the discussions they do not want to have. Like the Republican party sold the assault rifle (because the Democrats would not have allowed it) that killed those 14 children in Florida. Exaggeration? Not at all.
3
Please see next article. “Trump tied analytical firm offered to entrap politicians”
2
Hmmm. It's not a theory, NYT, it's a fact, and this paper should know that because it has reported a great many of those facts, to its credit.
1
Mr. diGenova please put up or shut up! This is more of the bad reality show that the executive branch of the United States has become under the dysfunctional leadership of Donald J. Trump. The broad strokes about rogue FBI agents (if we include Fox News then they are operatives of the Deep State). Can you please give us names and locations of the FBI agents that conspired to keep DJ Trump from being elected? Why don't we let Mr. Mueller finish his investigation and see if the smoking guns are as bad as they may be? Why is your client acting as though he is guilty? Is he?
4
Trump has hired a Fox talking head as his personal lawyer. Why am I not surprised?
3
Interesting connection between mercenary army for hire Eric Prince and the Donald who he was possibly fronting for with the Russians. Oh & there's his sis doing her best to "Christianize" public education as Trumps secretary of education. Such an incestuous bunch of ruffians that Trumps swims in the swamp with.
5
Vote on November 6!
Cast out Trump's Republican enablers!
8
Yes, that's the real way out of this mess, vote, vote, vote, for anyone but Republicans!
Larry Casper
Asheville
2
Any hack in a storm, eh?
Clearly, Trump has a learning disability...hiring another hack.
Can't wait to hear the sordid details of this guy. My money is on some sort of sexual harassment...maybe an NDA in there too...
5
Joe diGenova is once again mouthing off on something he simply does not have full and complete information. Everything he says is based on inference, partial information, bias, animus, and the manufactured conspiracy theories he harbors. Joe, like a pit bull, is bent on confirming his pent up prejudices. If you want a sense of Joe's thinking and vitriol, read the speech he gave on January 25, 2018 on "The Politicization of the FBI" at Hillsdale College--a bastion for conservative thinking. Joe's speech is nothing more than a rant at the FBI he now considers corrupt. Does he have proof, of course not. What he puts forth is soupy opinion and nothing more. Whatever happened to the sober, analytical, and balanced Joe diGenova of years past? Sad, so sad.
4
Clown car has reached max.
8
In this case, the picture is worth a 1000 words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
While we should not judge a book by its cover, Martin Scorcese could not have cast a more criminal appearing legal counsel/
6
"Little evidence" to support diGenova's wild conspiracy claim? How about no evidence, NYT?
10
Trump is trying to create a myth to excuse his own behavior just as Roy Cohn, his mentor, created the myth of anti-communism which was used to jail people during the 50's and 60's until people saw through the story -- that Eisenhower and many others were communists. Trump is trying to create his own reality where he is guiltless and everybody else is evil. So far, with the help of Fox and Friends, he seems tp be succeeding.
However, the FBI is a tough organization to fight against. Eventually one or more of its members will burst Trump's bubble. I just hope his bubble bursts before he does damage the country is unable to recover from.
5
if Trumpy has nothing to hide & there's no collusion, why the army of defense attorney's? Even the most naive detective would have to believe this guy has something VERY BIG to be hiding..
It would be wise to remember that lies and cover-ups are what brought NIXON down and without a doubt, they'll bring Trump down too - its only a matter of time...5 lawyers or 50 lawyers will not make a difference...Trump is guilty of something big and he knows it...just follow the money because thats all he cares about - the money will be his down fall...
6
The race to bottom continues. "Adding an aggressive voice...", who will possibly be able to hear one more voice in the chorus of aggression?
Even Trump may run out of money financing this legal circus. Eventually the truth will win out and if the stakes weren't so high for the county, it might even be creepily entertaining.
2
What episode of The Apprentice aka the trump presidency is this? We have an emotionally immature ingrate as our elected president. The republican majority in congress continues to turn a blind eye to his dangerous antics. I pray the November elections will reveal the American voters to be wise and elect the Democratic Party candidates.
3
"Mr. Trump broke over the weekend from the longstanding advice of some of his lawyers that he refrain from directly criticizing Mr. Mueller, a sign of his growing unease with the investigation."
That's one way to put it. Another might be Trump's "growing impatience" with the investigation and his concern that it's turning into a fishing expedition.
It looks like Mueller hasn't been successful tying Trump into collusion - the main purpose of his investigation. How do we know this? The media continually reports "bombshell" leaks from Mueller's team, none of which remotely connect Trump with collusion (which, by the way, isn't even a crime here except under very specific circumstances).
You people that want the investigation to end remind me of spoiled children before Christmas that think the bigger boxes have better presents. This is probably more like a box of chocolates.
Since Trump never pays his bills on time yet alone in full lets just see how long these $1000 an hour an up attorneys hold on.
Revenue to Our Grifter in Chief is dropping, legal
fees are skyrocketing, shady lenders and investors are thinking twice about touching the Trump "brand". We may finally see Mr. Trump's tax returns with his next bankruptcies which as sure as the sun rises tomorrow are on the way.
3
We've watched Trump lurch from one dark obsession to another since taking office. First it was that the numbers on his inauguration were wrong. Then it was Comey that was wrong. After that he proceeded to throw in Clinton as the problem as often as was compatible with distraction. He keeps going after Sessions, fired Tillerson, Comey, and is now fulminating on about Mueller, the FBI, and Justice. I guess it never ends. Someone or some institution is always out to get him. And at this point I hope someone or some institution does because he has demonstrated his complete unfitness for the office past any doubt.
Our current occupant of the White House is a blowhard, a racist, a hypocrite, a liar, and utterly incompetent. The GOP, in supporting him, has betrayed us. And we, in giving him enough votes to win the Electoral College, have proven H.L. Mencken to be correct: “As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”
18
Trump would be better off governing as opposed to trying to shut down an investigation that will ultimately tie him and the Republican Party to the connections between the Russians and the influence of the 2016 election. Perhaps he should hire a tutor to teach him about ethics, checks and balances and separation of the Justice Department and the office of the president. Let's hope he is paying for all these attorneys out of his own pocket. The more he protests the more he looks guilty.
5
Hip boots are a waste of time in today's White House. Chest waders are dress derigeuer when wading through the murk of Trump's administrative staff.
Conspiracy buffs, knowing whose what to kiss (frequently, often and with feeling - and when) go directly to the front of the line.
6
The cast of characters expands.
6
Trump is unlikely to be impeached - despite the lingering hope we all have the Mueller is going to find a photo of Jared stuffing ballot boxes with Putin.
The only way to reign in this madness is to go after his supporters in Congress.
Take them to task in November and we MIGHT have a shot at saving what's left of this country after Trump's first year.
12
Whatever.
I await the moment when Trump, self-described "genius" that he is, fires all of his attorneys, both privately hired and those on the public payroll, and represents himself.
Of course, then he'd have to sue himself for ineffective assistance of counsel.
9
How much insanity do we have to take from this President before he is sent to a mental hospital? Everyday brings more and more insanity, more and more nonsense, and more and more bizarre behavior from this man. Even to the most untrained person, he is clearly mentally ill and we stop with this nonsense that this is just "Trump being Trump". It isn't. It's behavior that is well documented in numerous clinical literature and mental health journals describing his behavior clearly one of mental illness. What will it take for those with a duty and responsibility to protect our nation from a man who is obviously mentally unhinged? Does it need to take a major crisis or calamity to happen, all because he is unable to distinguish truth from fiction, or that he hears voices in his head? Now, the voices in his head tell him it's a "conspiracy" by the FBI and the Justice Department to frame him. This is the kind of talk you hear all the time in mental hospitals. Enough is enough, He needs to be impeached and removed from office and sent to a mental hospital already. We know this is crazy talk when we hear it. We cannot take three more years of this uncontrolled insanity.
8
"Little evidence has emerged to support that theory."
For values of little that equal "none whatsoever"
6
Surely it's past time that Trump appoint Alex Jones to handle media relations.
11
A perfect fit.
3
Trump obviously has basic rights to mount a defense and to hire any and all legal representation.
Cool.
So, let's put his defense up against the prosecution that Mueller might bring against him.
Let's sort it out.
We are smart enough to see who's right or wrong, has good sources or dubious ones, who has motive for whatever.
Bring it on.
That's how we work in America.
All I know is this:
Robert Mueller is free and welcome to investigate me any time he wants.
Pull out all the stops Bob, I'm clean.
I have nothing to hide.
That's a simple statement that millions of Americans could make today.
How 'bout you Donald?
11
Pretty soon there will be more people employed on trump's legal team than at the decimated State Department!
Memo to trump: When you act as guilty as you do, hiring more and more lawyers only makes you look more afraid of what you are trying to hide.
16
And they are playing the tried Johnny Cochrane / OJ Simpson defense.
Attack the accusers, the press/media, the Independent counsel, the FBI, etc.
The only thing they have left and to appease their fanatic supporters.
Trump 12.22C
1
I guess Geraldo Rivera and F. Lee Bailey were booked...
10
This of course begs the question: does Trump now have more personal lawyers in his employ than the number of women who have accused him of sexual misconduct? Regardless, our President sure seems to have a lot of lawyers considering he has done nothing wrong...
13
I presume that some enterprising reporter will ask this guy:
1) What crime was falsely created?
2) Who created it?
3) What evidence do you have of this false creation?
Until he answers, it would be nice to hear no more from him. But the base doesn't require interrogation, logic and evidence; it subsists on smoke, mirrors and mud.
14
Big Movie Director: Hello, Central Casting, send me over a guy who can play a lawyer who looks like he works for the Bad Guys, you know, a little rough around the edges, but still wears a suit. You got someone like that?
Central Casting: Do we?
9
There is no need to frame this president. He is a pathological liar and he surely lied to the FBI about his involvement with the Russians during and before the campaign. Lying is his modus operandi and all Mueller needs to do is get Trump to testify under oath and he will lie about any number of things that will set the table for impeachment. The only thing diGenova can do to help Trump is keep him from testifying under oath.
11
Oh, good grief. This has to stop. When is all this going to stop?
8
You want Donald to appoint you to a senior position in his administration? Accuse Mueller of trying to railroad you into -- well -- something 'r' other.
4
>>Trump to Hire Lawyer Who Has Pushed Theory That Justice Dept. Framed the President
Doesn't it seem just a little odd that the Justice Department hasn't accused the President of any wrong-doing, yet this attorney is coming in with a reputation for pushing this narrative before it is supposed to have occurred?
The only thing one can take away from this is that Trump's team can anticipate what they are going to be charged with. Even if they were being framed, how would they know that?
10
The heck with trying to prove criminality. Let New York bring a civil forfeiture action against Mr. Trump. Then give him the option of putting up or shutting up.
8
Nobody bawls victimhood like con-artists flushed out into the open.
22
Let me guess: "Fox & Friends" regular?
17
Who will Trump retain next... Perry Mason? Jack McCoy?
6
Another winner added to this administration.
5
DiGenova and his wife, Vickie, have been fringe right wingers going back to Bill Clinton. DiGenova oversaw the investigation into the Bush 41's people illegal search of Bill Clinton's passport/visa records. Needless to say, DiGenova found no crime. Expect the lunacy level to be dialed way up with this guy. And his wife, Vickie. What a pair of losers! Sad!
15
He and Donald have similar hairstyes, but diGenova needs a little help on the Pompadour.
8
This is a joke, right?!?!?
10
Trump has found his sea-legs as president; the world is throwing up over the side.
15
He is going to represent Trump, and his wife and law partner represents Erik Prince, potentially a witness against Trump. Is this not a conflict?
5
You work for us, Donald. You need help? Instructions?
Read a copy of the Constitution for a change. It's WE the people, not "ME" the people.
17
He is joining this swamp? Sure doesn’t say much for him, does it?
5
Another conspiracy theorist joins the Trump team. Another bottom feeder dredged up from the depths.
I marvel at the seemingly limitless supply of just plain bad people who sign up to join the Trump crusade of lying and deceit and delusion.
11
This guy will fit right in with the knuckleheads currently representing Trump. He's conspiracy minded, wrong on the law more often than not, and ravenously conspiratorial.
I have to wonder if there's enough tinfoil for all the hats.
11
not only was Trump framed, but diGenova himself was caught in a three-way with Stormy Daniels and O.J. Simpson that was set up by Cambridge Analytica...
7
Add Joe DiGenova as the next cuckoo to fly over the nest. He can help Trump with his tweeting
10
It's bad when Stormy has better lawyers then the president, but then he only hires the best.
11
I'd think we can impeach Trump for just the conflicts of interest and emoluments. Add them up, they're enough to choke a billionaire. Trump got what he wanted out of the Presidency ... rigging the tax code to rain money on his personal account, even it if meant siphoning bribes to lubricate it. What does he care, it isn't his money. Watching him operate on his voters, its obvious he's selling himself for himself, the rest is just waiting. His religious supporters are conditioned for disappointment so whatever Trump says or does is just the lay of their land; another miracle that didn't work out.
9
If Trump is so innocent (an absolute impossibility), let him be judged by his constituents - US! WE will decide whether or not he is a crook, based upon firm evidence gathered by Robert Mueller.
IF he were innocent, when then is he trying every possible quasi-legal and illegal way to get out of being exposed as what he has shown himself to be.
All of his "poor me" crying and whining only adds to the probability that he is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors and, as such, can be accused, tried and convicted - and removed from office, and imprisoned - where he belongs.
CONGRESS (the Trumplican part) gives good lip service by saying that Trump would be crazy if he fires Mueller. Trump IS crazy, and he is likely to do so. Congressional protection for Mueller is a necessity - it can hurt nothing but CAN PREVENT a massive Constitutional Crisis by this sociopath.
11
Alright, counselor, put your evidence out there. The floor is yours. take your time, we'll wait.
6
There is clearly a certain inordinate level of frustration and urgency unseen in the executive office for years. The results of the investigation may not be what people expect but there will definitely be something that shouldn't be on the front pages of major newspapers per the view of those implicated which is why this investigation completely disrupted people related to it.
Trump framed by the DOJ/FBI and everyone else?
Did these entities arrange the Trump Tower meeting?
Did the point a gun to his head and dictate his tweets?
Did they voice-over Don Jr's scathing revelations?
Did they force Kushner into poor, risky decisions and continuing his family's legacy of clandestine thuggery?...RIGHT!
At this point, any legal defense wanting in on this has a motive or just wants in on this historic piece of swamp that we'll be, unfortunately, talking about for ages to come.Either way, go ahead Mr diGenova, give it your best try!
Now, Mueller, I think there's more than enough to rid of this swamp because at this juncture, I feel something eerie coming on and I'd rather NOT know what it is other than Trump finally out!
8
Wow. Our next Supreme Court nominee!
6
It is never ending trauma and idiocy for America and the world. Why have Republicans cravenly gone spineless and let this lying, cheating, stealing, corrupt adulterer do whatever he wants with NO consequences? Because apparently they, like the liar in chief, lied when they swore a duty to uphold our constitution and to protect America. Why? Because they value self, Party, greed, and the K street revolving door more than human life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The Parkland students have more integrity, compassion, bravery and patriotism in one tiny fingernail each than the whole Republican bunch of thugs in Washington.
Please, if we are to survive, Mr. Mueller, indict the whole corrupt lot of them and let the Supreme Court say whether America can indict and try criminally a sitting US president. How can we not? He's on record confessing to his own crimes, and every tweet simply is another brick in the wall for a criminal case. Something has to give before the world ends! This has lasted way too long.
16
Ah, to be able to go back to the days when we thought Richard Nixon was the most paranoid president in the history of the republic.
17
I never thought I'd miss Nixon.
6
I wouldn't buy a used car from this man, fuggedaboutit!
6
"...a falsely created crime". Mr. diGenova appears to deny, not just Trump's collusion, but that Russia interfered in the election at all. That's like denying the Holocaust at this point. Factual evidence, a long string of connected and verified context exists. We have the websites they used, the Facebook pages they set up, the computers they hacked into. This article says "Little evidence has emerged to support [diGenova's] theory." Actually NO evidence at all has emerged of his conspiracy theory, while investigators patiently accumulate a mountain of evidence, as put forward in the recent indictments. There have been so many verifiable lies by Trump and nearly all who defend him that their credibility is blown, their conspiracy theories are either out of contact with reality, or else attempts to exploit the appetite for sensational conspiracy theories that exist in a major part of the public. Bereft of real evidence, these conspiracy theorists are like hypnotisers swinging a watch before our eyes, telling us that when we wake up, we will believe that up is down, down is up, the investigators are criminals and the criminals are helpless victims. Well guess what? I believe Comey, I believe McCabe. I respect the FBI, and so do a great many other people.
9
Where does Trump find these bizarre people? This guy must also believe the Earth is flat.
10
Well he's probably very comfortable with this man, don't you think?
This charge is insane! Comey’s needless statement on investigation HRC emails 11 days before the elections was without a doubt one of the reasons she lost. I hope Comey’s book explaines why he did this. DiGenova’s Fox-inspired idiocies seem to be motivated by greed. I wouldn’t hire the man to take out my trash.
5
The closer Mueller gets the more we'll see the lowest forms of life in the White House and increased attacks on the DOJ and the FBI.
That more than a third of the nation supports this president in sickening.
11
who actually fired Mr. Mccabe?
6
Sessions. The guy who perjured himself during his Senate hearings and got confirmed anyway.
Just a lawyer seeing a great opportunity to make MILLIONS!
4
Framed?
The FBI and DOJ must have hired the best in the field - Cambridge Analytica - to do the job.
6
Trump hires a TV lawyer to represent him.
He hires a TV economist to head his economic team.
He might as well hire Sean Hannity as his press secretary and make it a complete set.
10
Hannity? Ssshhh......he might hear you!
4
We seem to all be missing something. Did the lawyer just say they have evidence of a crime but the crime is fake. I've never seen an attorney say before their client is charged with a crime that their client has been framed for a crime. This is a bit of foreshadowing.
52
Hope hope he got an advance, because Trump won’t pay him. That’s why Trump can’t get a decent lawyer.
6
Look at this thing as a tennis match (Trump against Mueller). Any good player when putting stress on the opponent always hits the ball harder and faster. Mueller though is doing the opposite (softer and slower). Why?
1
These various talking heads keep trying to tell the American public that Clinton sought to undermine the Trump campaign. I think one of the forgotten items in the election was Comey's letter 10 days before election day that indicated he was reopening the Clinton investigation. I think THAT sealed Clinton's fate. I find it ironic that this is forgotten by the conspiracy theorists who suggest it was the FBI that sought to hinder Trump's campaign.
3
Trump will just replace everyone in the govt, until everyone in the govt agrees with his delusional view of the world. No need for facts, just yes men.
4
At some point, you'd think people would wise up to all of this, but I guess the echo chamber impermeable.
It's the blatant and disrespectful obviousness of the spin machine that really gets me. The people peddling this stuff clearly view their media consumers as some sort of sub-human incapable of skepticism.
3
The FBI is no different than any other "agency". They have a point of view and will use their tools to push the agenda of those who support them. If anyone thinks the FBI is objective is essentially a naive child. Expose the FBI because they do not have the interests of the American citizens at their core. They are pushing an authoritarian agenda and need to be extinguished. Look at their record. It mostly applies towards bringing down or killing lawful Americans.
The only collusion I have seen so far is the collusion of the dishonest media against a democratically elected President. Do not forget the collusion between FBI, Justice Department to get Hillary off the hook. All those immunity deals and interviews where no notes, no recordings of those interviews, etc etc. It is time to end Muller investigation, this is bringing the country to a crawl. Give Mueller 30 days to come up with the final report. It is time for this country to move on.
12
You know, if I were to accept fabrications from blatantly partisan media at face value, I might believe what you're asserting.
Or, maybe the guy with the multi-decades history of being dishonest is the problem. There's a reason he took something like 8% of the vote in Manhattan - where he lives. People despise Trump because of how he behaves.
I understand that Hillary Clinton not being in jail is a really big sore spot for some people, but she's also not the president, and this particular deflection is spurious and wearing really, really thin.
27
God! I love the Lone Star State! Clarity!
You've been blessed with a short memory. You must have forgotten the 2-year, $7mil Benghazi/Hillary debacle perpetrated on America by your "patriot" pals. And she wasn't even president. Settle back, grab some popcorn and enjoy the meltdown. You've got several months to go by my calculations.
18
Well, if diGenova's conspiracy theory doesn't work out as a defense for Trump, Trump can always call Saul from "Breaking Bad."
Of course, Saul wasn't a real lawyer but was played by actor Bob Odenkirk. Odenkirk did a great job. Who needs a law degree anyway to defend Trump? And since Trump has decided to try his own case in the court of public opinion, a good actor is all that is needed in La-la Trump Land.
Can't wait for the Mueller team to drag us out of the highly polluted Swamp of Trump back to law, order, and democracy.
6
If Trump is guilty of obstruction, money laundering, colluding with Russia, or other crimes, his only option other than resigning is to undermine the Mueller investigation. The more he fights the more it looks like he is guilty.
Since impeachment is a political act, he can repeat the lie that the Mueller investigation is corrupt. This will provide cover for his political enablers to prevent impeachment proceedings or to vote against conviction.
Good spot we're in. People who value the rule of law will take to the ballot boxes en masse in the mid-terms and elect a Congress to limit his authoritarian ambitions.
146
Just another attempt to discredit the investigation by Robert Mueller. Disgusting.
11
This guy used to be on cable all the time, his wife, too. I forget her name. Is that the Republican lawyer Ted Olson commenting below?
4
Victoria Toensing. The family (including her son Brady Toensing) are political gadflies.
4
God, no. No more. The legal profession is for sale to defeat any semblance of "equal justice" for the likes of a Trump. He picked someone who has himself poisoned the pot by promoting conspiracy theories: yet if Trump is indicted on any charges, the same lawyer will be claiming that Mr. Dennison/Trump can't get a fair trial anywhere in America.
What is being revealed is thta much of how government has been functioning depends on ethical people, and that most of government has been for sale: Trump simply makes it clear.
26
Trump's judicial appointments are selected to destroy what little semblance of justice there is in US courts.
5
Who is paying Mr. diGenova's fees?
33
I was not a fan of impeachment because 62 million people actually voted for the vulgar talking yam. I am now leaning toward imprisonment because never has anyone acted so guilty for so long.
81
John Brooks -- List the crimes Trump committed deserving of prison. But when you answer, you better produce the actual indictment, documents, videos, audo and any other evidence to support your claim.
Trump doesn't seem to hold the same standards you do for identifying criminals. Perhaps you should ask him the same question.
Impeachment is just the trial. The Senate has to decide whether to convict/remove from office.
I don’t know if Trump really believes that HRC somehow had the FBI in her pocket all along, but he seems to think somehow that it would only be fair if all the republicans in the FBI were replaced with rabid Trump supporters. That’s like telling the traffic cop who pulled you over that he has to let you go because th guy ahead was speeding too. It doesn’t work that way
30
We haven't seen the most destructive aspects of the Trump Presidency yet.
Those will be revealed after Mueller has completed his work -- and clearly demonstrated the ethically inappropriate, if not criminal, if not treasonous relationship between DJT and Russia -- and then almost half the country refuses to believe this evidence is anything but a partisan smear tactic.
What happens then? Because we know DJT is no Lincoln, and he will only encourage the house that is this country to divide against itself if he thinks it will keep him in power.
27
Why does this article say that LITTLE evidence has emerged to support the theory that a group of FBI and DOJ people conspired to frame Trump for a falsely created crime if he won the election? Shouldn't it say that NO evidence has emerged to support that theory? Or, if there is evidence, shouldn't they put it out on the page? These writers have been very lenient with Trump for a long time. Why?
106
I agree 'dobes'. And maybe the NYT reporter can review the definition of what a theory is. It's a scientific extrapolation (or conclusion) based on known scientific facts that bolster one's HYPOTHESIS of what might have happened.
2
Perhaps they are waiting for Mueller to complete his investigation. He does not yet have a Grand Jury where he can apply for a warrant to subpoena Deutschebanke's records which would have to record the 250M deposit for Trump. The money came from Russian oligarchs in London; it was laundered through The Bank of Cyprus, and then deposited in Deutschebanke. That bank was the final lender to Trump. His tax records would have to show a loan/deposit for that amount. That is why he is hiding his tax records. The money trail was followed over a year ago by an investigative reporter from the New Yorker magazine. He documented his findings.
3
"...He added, “Make no mistake about it: A group of F.B.I. and D.O.J. people were trying to frame Donald Trump of a falsely created crime.”
Little evidence has emerged to support that theory."
Other than these chuckleheads repeating their claims I wasn't aware of ANY evidence to support it.
59
Really ?? No evidence to support the frame job? Maggie & Mike didn't tell you about --- Comey admitting the dossier was never "proved" by Intel sources? But then they used the debunked dossier to bamboozle the warrant from the court? Or that McCabe / Strzok / Page / and Ohr set up "Andy's Insurance Policy"? By the way -- If there's no evidence to support the frame job ... where are they now? Fired? Demoted? If we were in court right now, the "evidence" just detroyed your whole case. Smile.
Way to take those texts out of context.
The dossier wasn’t debunked. Parts were proven. The court also knew it was from political oppo research. But the investigation and FISA warrant process started because of blabbermouth Papadopoulos and Carter Page. And would not have been renewed if it had not produced information worthy of futher surveillance.
Maybe Trump should consider hiring Agents Mulder and Scully to investigate this latest conspiracy instead of this lawyer. Sheesh!!
23
Love or !
1
Joseph diGenova perhaps believes that he's found a hook to hurtle himself back into the national conversation after a pretty long drought. It must be a heady day or two for him. Time, however, will tell whether his 15 minutes will last any longer than that. I highly doubt that it will, but oh, those 15 minutes!
18
Just noticed that diGenova undertook the representation of the president, despite the fact that his law partner wife represents Mark Corallo, the White House spokesperson who abruptly resigned after Hope Hicks said, in a three-way conversation that included Trump, that emails contradicting the made-up reason for the Trump Tower meeting would "never see the light of day."
If Corallo was trying to avoid being tarred with obstruction of justice by leaving the White House on that account, it looks like his own law firm just corralled him back into the fire. So he probably needs a new lawyer--and a trip to the DC Bar's legal ethics authority--if he did not knowingly waive what looks like a pretty significant conflict of interest.
And now that they represent the president, the lawyers of DiGenova & Toensing might better read the DC Bar's Code of Professional Responsibility in its entirety. Not only does its section 1.7 generally forbid representation of two clients whose interests conflict, its section 4 forbids knowingly making false statements on behalf of a client to third parties, a duty that extends to both the press and the American public--indeed by definition "any person or entity who is not [that] client." I expect there may be lots of members of the DC Bar who will take their duty to report a fellow lawyer's infraction of that section very seriously.
37
It’s amazing that DiGenova hasn’t been disbarred. Has anyone checked his bar membership, by the sway?
1
it's good that he gets only the best people. i'd hate to see the worst.
66
Please Mr. Mueller. With the upmost respect. Please speed this up. Despite your attention to fact and integrity, its time to pull the ripcord before the Con pulls it for us.
27
Not only is there no Justice Department or FBI effort to frame the President, it appears likely between Cambridge Analytica and Russian interference that Trump was never legitimately elected in the first place! Trump has done more to incriminate Trump than the FBI and the CIA combined could do here. His Tweet rages appear to be evidence of self-serving tirades designed to influence anyone he believes he can. They appear also appear to be evidence of obstruction of justice. Having never been held accountable for anything he's done wrong, I suspect Trump is beside himself that he is actually coming under appropriate and serious scrutiny by Mr. Mueller. Perhaps he thought he had a "get out of jail free" card for life. Maybe not this time.
208
Whether he tricked and conned his way to the win or just got it the usual way, the election result is certified and is a fait accompli. For good or bad, Trump has won and we'll need to deal with him as President. Trying to undo that result will further damage the country.
Better to elect a more responsible Congress this year and a better administration in 2020 and act to protect elections going forward.
4
based on your logic obama should have been ousted as president for letting the russians take over crimea (was he colluding with the russians after the promised reset?). furthermore, the tactics used by cambridge analytica and the trump campaign were first used by obama in 2012 with facebook's acquiescence and approval.
jack s, you are creating a scenario that has no logic. To answer you question, Obama colluding with Russians, promised reset, I answer, wholeheartedly "no", you are wrong, there is no logic here, only half baked kookery.
2
We need to be paying close attention to the pushing of this new pro-Trump conspiracy theory. Fox News is going all-in on this. Just yesterday, Maria Bartiromo, on her Fox Business show Sunday Futures, featured her guest James Kallstrom, who promulgated in detail this exact same “alternative” theory.
In this I am once again struck by the way that the Fox News people can coordinate with Trump officials in perfect synchrony, with all of them moving together like a flock of birds or a school of fish.
We need to pay attention to and confront this alternative conspiracy head-on. It will be used as a reason to derail the Mueller investigation. And the promotion of a false but powerful narrative by the pro-Trump people will only further inflame the right and will add to the polarization among us.
53
This is all sad. If DT would just wait until Mueller does his job, it would be over. Either Mueller comes up with financial crimes and DT is out or he comes up with zero and the voters must resolve our dilemma both at mid terms and in 3 years if DT and the world make it until then. But, after all this time, Mueller has not come up with collusion and/ or obstruction in spite of the stupid things DT's people did and then lying to the FBI. DiGenova will just muddy things more.
4
Either Trump is too stupid to take your most excellent advice or there is a good reason on his end to fight the investigation. It is possible that, when this is over, he'll be visiting Jr and Jared in federal prison, perhaps more.
For whatever reason, Trump believes he has to squash any effort to look too deeply into his business (figuratively and literally). The way he's doing it plays right into the investigator's hand just as surely as Clinton pounding out how he never had sexual relations with that women did way back when.
Mueller has "not come up with collusion and/or obstruction" because he has not concluded his investigation and issued a report.
Lie, deny attack
Lie, deny, attack
Does it never end?
29
His usual endgame is bankruptcy and non-disclosures on payments to the victim after Lie, deny, attack. Neither tactic seems to work with Mueller.
Exhaustion and disgust. Donald Trump's nastiness, his lies, his reckless behavior make us examine the past hoping to find something that will reassure us this is not the worst of times. But, Trump's hope is that Americans will stop caring. And so Trump with the support of the Republican Party gins up the xenophobia and conspiracy theories. I am tired of Donald Trump and the Republican Party's encouragement of him. Broken politics can be put back together and the chance will in November. Everyone and anyone who is tired of being lied to, tired of the selfishness of Donald Trump must vote. That is the only way to avoid the violence that is otherwise coming.
31
Just like any two-bit crook, "I was framed."
23
If only Trump would expend 1/100th of the time he devotes to watching cable tv conspiracy-mongers to studying the U.S. Constitution and learning about the mechanics of governance instead, he might have actually been able to do something for the average American person.
Instead, it's hair-on-fire reality tv punctuated only by taxpayer-funded weekend luxury vacations to his branded resorts, where he can bask in the fawning attention he so desperately craves.
53
Anyone who believed a billionaire who made his money on the backs of regular people was out to help them was delusional. Trump is not plain spoken; he's poorly spoken. He's not for the common man, he's for exploiting the common man.
Should his maniacal rubes wake up and see it, it will be an ugly day for him indeed. If not, hopefully there are enough arrayed against him to deal with him in 2018 and 2020.
2
A vast and complex conspiracy. First, the FBI fixed up meetings between Trump campaign officials and Russians. Next, the FBI used magic to erase their memories of these meetings. This opened them up to being indicted for perjury. The conspiracy -- it is all coming to fruition now...
25
FBI also made them all repeatedly lie about whether they had contacts with the Russians, forget contacts and investments on security clearance forms, etc.
I think there is no enabling law for a so-called "special counsel" and this Robert Mueller appointment was a complete and serious mistake conspired with intent to undermine our democratic processes, institutions, election result and US President. Robert Mueller has trampled the bounds of his purported charter by conducting himself as an Inquisitor without Portfolio. This whole fiasco was in error from the beginning and should be ended immediately by way of Mueller's resignation or dismissal. I would not be sorry to see our US Attorney General and our Deputy Attorney General go with him, one way or another. If we are a nation of laws, then we need to get rid of all three of these people who have failed the law miserably and quite evidently.
1
We are a nation of laws and Mueller will follow them. Trump is toast.
23
1978.look it up.
6
The law is 28 CFR 600.1 - Grounds for appointing a Special Counsel and you can find it here: https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/28/600.1.
The AG was a part of the President's campaign which was suspected of having broken several laws during its operation. The FBI investigation prior to the special counsel was damaged when the President fired the director and stated plainly it was because of the existence of that same investigation. Without a special counsel, there was no way to avoid multiple conflicts of interest.
The old Independent Counsel law was allowed to expire. This is not the same thing as what Mueller is. Should Mueller be fired or sidelined by the President, you can expect Congress will pass another Independent Counsel law to reinstate Mueller's efforts.
All of this is completely correct even if Mueller finds that there is no law broken and no crime to prosecute. Investigations are not, contrary to Trump's apparent opinion, an automatic conviction. The investigation is prompted based on the probability that a crime has been committed. Once the truth is known, the investigation will recommend whatever actions, including none, are needed based on the facts at hand.
In short, Trump's best course is to shut up and let things proceed if he has done nothing wrong. If he or his people have broken the law, his best cours eis to do what he's doing. The special counsel is not creating problems; it is exposing them.
3
These days we Americans find ourselves in a bizarre reality where it seems normal that our President talks to us citizens either through a social media website or through his lawyers.
This isn't normal, and I hope that most people, regardless of what they think of Trump, should work / vote to change this highly unhelpful and disturbing situation.
All of this although Trump claims he's done nothing wrong - why so many lawyers?
11
Geez, for a guy who is so absolutely adamant that he had nothing to do with Russian interference, why so absolutely opposed to allowing an investigation that should prove it.
But Donald always makes it all about him. We the people deserve to know the extent to which Russia and others may have influenced or interfered with the election, whether it involves him or not.
14
"Little evidence has emerged to support that theory."
Little evidence? Try NO evidence. If there is a story here, then tell it. Otherwise, don't add fuel to Fox's fire by adding an ambiguous "little" to the sentence.
13
It is incorrect to say that "Little evidence has emerged to support that theory." A proper statement would be that NO CREDIBLE evidence has emerged to support that theory.
14
Is there a conflict of interest arising from Mr. diGenova's representation of Trump, coupled with his law partner and wife's, Victoria Toensing, representation of Mark Carollo who has accused Trump's close aide, Hope Hicks, of possibly obstructing justice arising from the creation, by Trump and her, of the widely discredited "adoption" statement emerging after that important meeting with Russians at Trump Tower in NewYork? If the Mueller investigators use information obtained from Carollo to help with the formulation of an obstruction case against Trump, how can the same law firm represent someone providing evidence against another client of the same firm?
21
Lets hope Trump does hire him, after all Trump has a hard time finding good lawyers because he has a history of not paying them.
7
Surely it's time for someone to find historical justification for proclaiming the Divine Right of Presidents, What a president does should, by definition, be Right, Lawful and for the Good of the Populace. It worked out well in England in the Good Old Days,
1
Whose paying for these lawyers? The taxpayers?
4
These are his “personal” lawyers - paid for out of his 2020 Election Campaign.
1
These are not the actions of an innocent man. Remember at first there was absolutely no contacts with Russians, then it was oh that meeting about adoptions. Then it was "if it's what you say I love it". Why all the lies if there is nothing to the Russian story. Trump has spent his whole life thinking the rules do not apply to him, so we are to believe that when the Russians offer him help he would say I'm sorry I can't accept help from you. That doesn't even pass the laugh test.
No matter what Putin does or says no criticism will ever be uttered by the Twitter in chief, I can't be the only person who finds that extremely strange. Notice the same tactic with Stormy Daniels, it seems people Trump knows have something on him are never spoken of or attacked on Twitter.
9
While many of the people commenting here (and probably reading this article) might not understand Mr. diGenova's theory, the facts do suggest exactly what he said. If those that can still manage actual inquiry could get their news from outlets that are reporting what has been developing for over a year, I think it would be very hard to dismiss him. This paper, for example, is no longer reporting what is going on.
1
wow that guy is straight out of central casting! this is going to be an amazing documentary one day!
8
The best part of this new defense is that it's impossible to disprove.
There can be "deep state" operatives under every bed and inside every closet. They're so good at what they do, you never see them.
Kind of like the tooth fairy and Santa Claus.
6
It’s also hard to prove people do not have “voices” in their head.
But when the “voices” start giving orders, it’s time for “protective custody.’
Deep state = Patriots who care about political and constitutional precedent
Trumpists = Anarchists and authoritarians who seed chaos in the hope of advancing the economic interests of a tiny group of degenerate oligarchs (just as in Russia).
That's the beauty and the problem when a person goes down the conspiratorial rabbit hole. No evidence becomes evidence of a cover up and on and on... It never ends...
The attempt to turn Trump from perpetrator to victim would eventually fail. The shadow of his murky life has been projected on this country starting with the fact that, to date, his tax return documents remain a well guarded secret.
2
Anyone under investigation by law enforcement can claim their innocence and claim that they are being framed. Sometimes it's true, but that's what the courts are for. What characterizes this, is that Trump occupies the highest office in the land and so therefore has the power to inundate the media with such claims of innocence hoping for a cumulative effect. He is also, subtly, claiming that because of the office he holds, it hinders the business of that part of the government and is therefore un-American.
Note to Republicans...you all need to have a much problem with this. Why? Because no one should be above the law in a 'democracy'..period. Don't want to live in a democracy, or something close to it? Move to Russia or any number of other options out there. Want to have a dictatorship? Just stay on the sidelines like you've been doing.
6
Is he a lawyer or a Fox News host? Hard to tell the difference with Trump's choice of lawyers. I guess life is one big tv show for the boy blunder. Shame on us for vetting him prior to his run. Everyone who knows him knows his business dealings are shady and cheating is his middle name. My what some thorough vetting could have prevented this country from going through. RNC, I'm looking at you.
5
I just finished reading "The Sociopath Next Door." Scary. One step less scary is the description of a narcisist. They apparently have somewhat human emotions, but give one power over others, and ... what can I say?
4
I do hope the American taxpayers are not paying for all these lawyers. Seems Trump hires a new one every week.
1
Just when I thought it was not possible, another lawyer steps forward to move the bottom. There is seemingly no bottom to this. As an attorney I encourage State bar associations to keep track of the many bold and brazen falsehoods and false claims made by all lawyers who step up to, or rather lower down into this cesspool. The code of professional responsibility does sanction lawyers for false statements and there is no known exemption for statements made in the realm of politics.
7
an objective outsider looking in would be hard pressed not to conclude that the DOJ and FBI colluded to delegitimize trumps election. Remember what the democrats keep saying, "where there is smoke there is fire". The FBI oversight committee, whose head is an obama appointed democrat, rightfully concluded that "mccabe was not worthy of being in the FBI"
Is that his defense argument, that there was a "brazen plot"? Hmmm...
4
Grasping at straws, now Trump is really stretching credulity.
5
Trump acts like he knows that special counsel Mueller is getting close to exposing the current Oval Office as a very corrupt swamp that must be drained asap. If that exposure does occur, will the House and Senate Republicans, led by Ryan and McConnell, act to drain the Oval Office swamp or choose to collectively create one for themselves?
9
I saw an attack on democracy too but not by Russia. One only need to ask themselves what the motive is for this Russiagate nonsense. War, to take away more of our freedoms and for the US elite to continue in their arrogance and narcissism to meddle in more of our elections. The recent Senate hearings with leaders of the intelligence agencies was totally BOGUS.
It is only narcissism or flat our willful ignorance that anyone looks the other way to save face.
1
Even the Ringling Brothers phased out their elephant act.
1
No class. No integrity. More chaos.
Just like his new boss.
8
Who needs the Ringling Bros. when we have with this three ring circus in DC?
10
But the Ringling brothers was fun. This is not.
4
QUESTION : Why did trump meet with Emmett T. Flood [ Bill Clinton's impeachment atty. ]. ?
ANSWER : The conflict rules now prevents Flood from representing any other parties including Hillary Clinton.
Was this the plan ?
1
Will he make them an offer they can't refuse?
First the author(s) said:
“Make no mistake about it: A group of F.B.I. and D.O.J. people were trying to frame Donald Trump of a falsely created crime.”
Then added:
"Little evidence has emerged to support that theory."
What "little evidence" is there the author(s) speak of? I haven't seen or heard of any actual evidence to support that theory. The author(s) should have said "No evidence has emerged to support that theory." That is the truth.
10
If the FBI was secretly plotting to keep Trump from becoming president, they must've forgotten when the election was, because no information on the investigation was released until after the election had concluded. Pretty dumb deep state conspiracy, hm?
15
How fitting that Trolling Trump should choose to be represented by a fringe conspiracy theorist amidst rumors that he is increasingly paranoid and cut off from consensus reality!
11
Trump thinks getting on TV is the greatest possible achievement. Filling a presidential administration with talking heads from FOX news is the highest form of farce. It would be funny if it weren't so sickening.
6
It looks like Trump is scraping the bottom of the barrel, he must be having a hard time hiring a lawyer.
This dope has been pushing all kinds of unsubstantiated conspiracy theories with Clinton, Obama, and the DOJ, what next Area 51.
8
I got it all wrong. Instead of going to law school, I should've just gotten a gig mouthing off on Fox News every few weeks. Then I could've landed a plum job in the White House and another selling books to the gullible masses.
9
One of my law school classmates did just that! :-)
The DHS (Department of Homeland Security) statement answering an NBC reporting, which was astonishing, the very important sentences:
“Recent NBC reporting has misrepresented facts and confused the public with regard to Department of Homeland Security and state and local government efforts to combat election hacking. First off, let me be clear: we have no evidence – old or new - that any votes in the 2016 elections were manipulated by Russian hackers. "
So the government agency mostly responsible for the internal security of the US has no evidence at all of manipulation of the elections by russian hackers, most MSM saw russian hackers meddling into the elections, based on "services". What services? Can everyone explain me this dicrepancy?
4
The grasping at straws has begun, what is scary is I believe 40 percent of Americans are capable of believing this garbage. Law enforcement in this country is predominantly filled with conservatives but possibly Trump can show them the error of their ways and change that equation. This is going to get much much worse.
7
So if diGenova is hired for Trump's defense team, does that mean he'll shut up about the matter now? Or is he some kind of PR guy?
3
Everyday is another chapter in the scandal soap opera of the Trump reign of terror.
Even Hollywood couldn't make this stuff up.
Sorry Donnie. The truth will come out and you will be going to jail in spite of Putin's help. Don't worry though. Orange looks good on you as it goes with your hair and complexion.
7
Between trips to his various properties, playing golf and interviewing attorneys - makes me think there's not much time to do "the people's business".
Sure hope Trump, Inc. is throwing off enough fun tickets ($$) to fund this ever increasing legal team.
3
I remember these two from when they were all over the airwaves in the late 1990s—defending special counsel Ken Starr and attacking the president.
6
The right wing succeeded with a bloodless coup. May you live in interesting times. Mercer, Bannon, and Trump--crooks all. Good luck America.
3
It's the same tactic the OJ Simpson legal team adopted .., claim that your client is the victim of some elaborate conspiracy, regardless of how absurd and baseless is that claim.
4
I also thought of OJ when I read this. Only, in that case, I did not believe the prosecution established guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Here, Mueller is a thorough and very careful prosecutor, building a case on solid evidence. OJ would not have succeeded against him.
Gee whillikers, it's like dealing with the MA and PA Kettle of the legal intelligentsia! Simply humiliating to have the rest of the world witness this low-class drama, day after day.
4
"This can work! Really! I'm not kidding!" said Johnny to O.J. defense team.
2
Yikes. Trump will do anything to get his own way. A true megalomaniac.
3
Mr. diGenova is fabricating this ridiculous charge and it's absurd. That's what highly paid lawyers are for.
Typical Trump. He's been interviewing people to come up with a counter charge that spins his legal problems and blames someone else.
It's blaming someone other than himself a Trump MO? He's been doing this his entire life, now is no different.
One more lie for Trump, is just business as usual.
4
THIS guy looks like something out of Central Casting! Where are the rocks from under which Trump digs these people up? Up next: Bullwinkle the Moose to head the National Park Service.
3
He'd be an improvement over the rest of Trump's cronies
How can a man who has cheated on three wives be trusted not to cheat US?
5
Who's paying for all of these attorneys that Trump is hiring? Is it we the taxpayers that are footing this bill? If so,why are we being forced to pay for the defense of someone we don't in any way support and believe is legally culpable for numerous "crimes and misdemeanors"? Let this fabulously rich man pay for his own defense and numerous attempts at misdirection and obstruction using less than ethical members of the legal profession. If ultimately found not culpable, we can reimburse him. But I protest the conflict of interest I might be promoting with mine and the public's money which should be used for our welfare, not his.
1
I can't imagine there are many intelligent lawyers out there with respectable reputations who would want to come within a mile of Donald Trump under any circumstances. He's just adding another substandard individual to his already highly flawed administration. It's time for America to right itself, get rid of this mentally challenged buffoon of a president and salvage what’s left of our reputation in the world before the damage caused by Trump and his family become irreversible.
1
They deserve each other. Despicable, government-hating conspiracy theorists.
2
Trump only likes people shorter, stupider, and less well coiffed than he is. But, it's not easy for Trump to fill his cabinet and inner circle with people dumber than he, so Fox News is the go-to resource. This guy would be top on my list.
2
Well this new attorney has hair no one would want.
2
Well, if the facts won't get you there,
Or the truth,
Or commonsense,
Or the law,
No option seemingly left but to throw out mindless gibberish -- and hope that folks are too busy --or dumb -- to notice. . .
. . . Fat Chance.
3
Is this Trump's "jumping the shark" moment? Please Jesus let it be so.
4
Good grief.
4
The Dunning Kruger effect strikes again for Donald Trump, the first certifiable ignoramus ever elected President. Hiring diGenova on the pre-text that Trump is being framed is too funny. In light of the Cambridge Analytica revelations can Trump really posture as an innocent. His campaign hired foreigners who stole 50 million voter profiles from facebook and then applied an algorithm to target each voter with convincing ads to get them to vote Trump, or to refuse to vote or to vote for a third party, thereby winning. That is, they stole private profiles and then sent individuals propaganda designed specifically for them.....just like the Russianswho also hacked FB.
Then there are these 13 Russians, and then there’s General Flynn who has pled guilty, and Mr. Papadoupolus who also pled guilty, and Manafort who is wanted all over the place and his minion Gates who has pled guilty. Why would the DOJ and FBI need to frame Trump?
Some attorneys will make enough defending Trump to send all their kids to Harvard and buy a retirement home, unless Trump’s assets are attached for financial “irregularities”.
6
DiGenova does not have a moral compass and is not bothered by it. He's just another snout in the trough.
6
Trump's found his man! It's as if he dug through a bin of used clothes, to find the one shirt that's the right size and color. How many DC lawyers, with gov't investigatory experience, tell tall tales about the FBI on Fox News? I don't know, because I can't stomach watching, but I'm guessing most conspirators don't have diGenova's resume.
DiGenova, however, has a personal agenda, like Bannon or Flynn. Not a duty officer, like Mattis or even Sessions. So he'll be out there making noise that undercuts his boss as much as protects him.
Why does Trump fall for these guys? The easiest person to con is a con artist. They're cut from his cloth, blow-hards in poorly fitted suits. I guess that's what Trump looked for in the bin of used clothes.
2
How many times do you think Di Genova's "theory" will be repeated on Fox News by Bombshell Sean and Screamin' Mimi Jeanine before it is accepted by Trump's base as "truth?"
6
What? this guy looks like an extra from Good Fellas or the Godfather. "I'm gonna make Muller and offer he can't refuse"
This is not a presidential administration but a sub "B" movie with a terrible cast, bad acting and lame script
3
John Gotti’s attorney was available?
3
Another Mafia lawyer to add to Trump's stable. The FBI should be used to these tactics by now.
4
Desperation, thy name is Donald J. Trump.
5
Please call Lorne Michaels for me and tell him to contact Jon Lovettts because this new lawyer can only be portrayed effectively by him. I can see the sketch now - it writes itself - Lovetts in the velvet smoking jacket in the Oval confiding in Alec Baldwin that he knows who’s behind this “frame up” and then he looks over his shoulder, bends down to whisper in Baldwin’s ear and, just then, Rosie O’Donnell bursts in with a “conga line” of federal prisoners in handcuffs that looks something like this: Jared, Ivanka, DJ, Jr., Eric, Bannon, Jeff Sessions, KellyAnne, Sarah Sanders, Hope Hicks, Rob Porter, Obama, Hillary and, last but not least, Putin....
9
Trump is thoroughly unhinged: he resides entirely in his alternative reality bubble. But my biggest worries are the Republican party that is enabling the destruction of our democratic institutions; the tens of millions of Americans who continue to support this guy; and millions more Americans who don't bother to vote.
Has America become too dumb and too lazy to maintain a Democracy?
18
Yes, we are.
Hey Joseph E. diGenova, you must be out of your mind or a Russian spy too. We all know that Donald J. Trump is a Russian spy that is beholden to Vladimir V. Putin, whom he worships and whom he has an existential fear of. Perhaps you too are a Russian spy, just like Trump, his children and Jared Kushner. Remember, special counsel Robert S. Mueller and his team are conducting a Spy Hunt. If it's a witch hunt then Donald J. Trump also fits that bill since he's a witch, no doubt. Let the investigation run its course so that the American people can find out how much beholden Donald J. Trump is to "bad" Russians like Vladimir V. Putin.
3
Turning the White House into Kardashian like circus.
6
he must be thrilled to be back in the headlines.... it's also indicative of the level of legal representation chief twit has sunk since no one of note will sign on...
7
Now Jimmy, President Trump’s scary legal team is not under your bed or in your closet. Now close your eyes and go back to sleep. Daddy will be sitting right here next to you, OK? Here, I’ll even leave the door open a little bit. How’s that? Better? Good.
1
The worst President of the United States is unraveling before our very eyes over the special prosecutor and the FBI. He needs to be removed from office before the North Korean meeting happens. His mafia lawyers are telling him all is well when there have been indictments of many people and I am shore there will be collusion in his business ventures with Russia. I hope the GOP wake up and see what Mr Mueller sees and the FBI and quite supporting this bad President. If not November mid terms will drain the swamp.
14
"...and see what Mr Mueller sees ...."
After, what, a year+, the whole Democratic witch hunt to "explain" their 2016 loss has produced exactly zero...nadda.....but they exhaust themselves (and us) by continuing on with this absurd scenario because the cannot BELIEVE Hillary was so disliked....which she was......
She had 3 million more votes and she was very well liked and still is. One year of Trump I had enough of any GOP future Presidents your group has to offer.
More proof of bad judgement.
Now the one lawyer that thinks he was framed is now an employee instead and is no longer a guest, he is a shill.
That is funny....the reason Trump walks funny is because of the bullet holes in his feet.
11
This guy is Scaramucci, the Reboot. He'll be out before you know it.
7
And will this help him with all his stormy problems?
11
diGenova is a FOX NEWS personality. If Trump likes him, he might wind up as Attorney General. Trump appears to be staffing his Administration with relatives and FOX NEWS clones. We are truly living in an alternate universe.
45
Personally, I love this choice. Everybody this fungus of a president touches gets infected. Maybe they can share a cell someplace later. Padded or otherwise.
22
Hacks, sycophants, and conspiracy demagogues gather in the bunker as the end draws inexorably closer.
19
diGenovas credentials include believing that trumps inauguration was the best attended inauguration ever.
15
This piece doesn't do this guy and his wife justice. Here is a compilation of all they have done/been willing to do to make a buck. I especially like their conspiracy theory from 2013 wherein they claimed:
"Victoria Toensing and her husband and legal partner Joseph diGenova are pushing claims that anonymous State Department and CIA "whistleblowers" have been blocked and threatened by the Obama administration to prevent their testifying on the September 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic facility in Benghazi, Libya. Toensing and diGenova are longtime Republican activists, and Toensing has a history of pushing dubious claims and falsehoods into the media."
The wife even claimed she was representing one of these "whistleblowers" Given the symmetry with their Benghazi "creation" and now their latest, how long before the wife is representing phantom whistleblower(s).
Is there any doubt that this guy figured if he was on tv long enough spouting his "theory" that Trump would eventually decide: I need that guy!
https://www.mediamatters.org/research/2013/04/30/who-are-the-right-wing-...
16
Ancillary question: Does Trump's cranium perspire beneath that copious hair-like material?
10
For someone who claims innocence, he is sure acting guilty. I have never seen anyone quite as worried as this so-called potus no-collusion whiner.
17
An innocent man has nothing to fear. Don the Con sounds mighty guilty.
17
So it is now front page news when the Chief Executive’ hires yet another attorney.
Well, we know this new attorney’s favorite conspiracy theory.
What about his favorite color? Does he have any pets? And if this new attorney were in a boy band, what would he call it?
Bring it on. The U.S. judiciary thrives on rule of law, and it will eat diGenova for lunch.
7
Psycho Don justs manifests his mania more and more.
Day by Day.
America is slowly tiring of the ordeal.
The Mueller indictments of the entire Trump Crime Coven can not proceed fast enough,
given the deep deep "patriotism" of the Republic Party leadership.
MAGA.
5
"I always find the best people". And when he says "best", it means his trained lapdog who agrees with everything and throws everyone else under the bus.
8
It is attorneys like this one that give the profession a very bad name.
20
I hope he's paying for all these lawyers himself. It seems that is his tweets are intense, he keeps hiring lawyers and keeps saying he's innocent of any wrongdoing. Yeah, right!
12
Unfortunately, Mr. diGenova is a highly partisan extremist who seems to be generating celebrity and lucrative speaking fees by claiming there is a "conspiracy" among law enforcement to take down Mr. Trump. From what I can tell, it is all rhetoric with no facts. It is ironic that Trump, schooled by his legal mentor Roy Cohn, would claim that the Mueller probe is a "witch hunt." Cohn, of course, conducted the "witch hunt" finding Communists in the bushes everywhere on behalf of Sen. McCarthy in the early 1950s. The problem with Trump and DiGenova's criticism of the Special Counsel investigation is that Mr. Mueller has in fact already found witches, some of whom have already pleaded guilty. Oh my - so much for a "conspiracy." But methinks that with his countless tweets and hiring of null sets like diGenova, Trump doth protest too much. I am glad that Mr. Mueller is keeping our dear President up at night.
15
This is, more than anything else, hilarious!
6
Little--virtually no--evidence has emerged to support this "deep state" delusion; on the other hand, mountains of evidence emerges every day of money laundering, ties to international gangsters, racketeering, obstruction of justice, Russian interference, kleptocracy, lying, etc etc.
The corporate press needs to beat the drum for reality. If I start to see "balance," and "equal time" given to this delusional conspiracy theory in the pages of the NYT, I'm done with my subscription.
9
When they're called out, all these right-wing conspiracy theorists back down and claim they're just "entertainers." DiGenova will be no different. He and Trump are fellow buffoons.
4
I love the smell of desperation in the morning.
15
Read "The Guardian" about all the dirty tricks played by "Cambridge Analytica" Steve Bannon and Mercer were at the top and involved. There are several articles in which the paper shows, in detail, the kinds of dirty tricks involved in going to work on Trump's presidential campaign.
9
The Cambridge Analytica story, and the role played by the Mercers in the dirty tricks of the Trump campaign, was actually reported in depth several months ago in the New Yorker. It was horrifying to read about at the time. Why is it only now being raised in public?
Trump has used and abused the power of The Courts throughout his lifetime to intimidate and browbeat his opponents, using his immense (?) wealth to pummel his adversaries into submission.
It must be Karma that Trump now finds himself in the grip of the U.S. Justice Department, where his bullying does not work.
Welcome to the Big Leagues Mr Trump.
14
Trump's business model was 50% civil court threats and suits. Suing Stormy for 20 million is an example, Melania winning 50 million for defamation this past year, another.
Now, we are moving into the criminal justice system, where Trump's techniques in civil courts will only get him into trouble in criminal proceedings. He doesn't understand his peril, he boasts of his obstruction and, now, is going full monty via tweets.
1
Who says Trump was framed? Has he been impeached? Indicted? Questioned by Mueller’s team?
He’s jumping the gun a bit if he thinks he needs to defend against being framed - don’t you think?
I mean, what’s he so worried about?
:)
9
GH: Worried about?
Probably the truth.
1
No one needs to frame Donald Trump. He's doing a great job of convicting himself.
20
Always a good idea to hire attack dog lawyers.
There are probably dozens of them still holding up Trump paying off debts regarding his financial misdeeds.
4
So, this is Trump's lawyer??
"Mr. diGenova has endorsed the notion that a secretive group of F.B.I. agents concocted the Russia investigation as a way to keep Mr. Trump from becoming president. “
Clearly, the U.S. is in the grips of an unhinged, unhealthy Narcissistic president. We need to act. If Putin is the world’s most politically frightening leader then Trump is certainly the most psychologically damaged one. Does he even know what it means to tell the truth? Wake up medical community. Let’s please find a way to commit him … he needs help!
9
We are definitely traveling through the looking glass, folks.
10
Ahhh! Another TV gas bag enlisted to save the sinking president. It makes perfect sense given that Trump's universe is limited to the channels available in his cable TV tier. If I may, I'd like to propose the "take-no-prisoners" attorney Jackie Chiles of the Seinfeld program. In case the name is not familiar, Mr. Chiles is the aggressive, litigation-happy, conspiracy enthusiast who would fit perfectly on Trump's legal team. His one drawback is that he is not a real lawyer, he just plays one on TV. But we now know that being fictitious, even surreal, is not a hindrance to employment in this White House.
10
Does anyone else feel like we have entered into the Star Trek episode "Mirror, Mirror" or is it just me?
8
It isn't just you - I really feel that way. And thanks for drawing an analogy to this presidency and one of my favorite Star Trek episodes. And BTW - Trump is resembling the Gorn more and more each day, from the episode The Time Trap. Beam me up Scotty - there's no intelligent life forms in this presidency.
4
I am sorry but it is my honest belief that any reputable, honest lawyer who has a moral compass and integrity would not accept a job offer from Trump.
How can such a lawyer defend a man like Trump who is a pathological, dishonest vulgar and cruel individual? Is it for money or fame ?? I can see it if a court assigns such a lawyer to a defendant who can not afford a lawyer. I am just appalled and disgusted by how Trump conducts his business in the White House. I know it has been said before that he has no moral compass, no compassion, is only out for himself, egotistical and certainly could not care less about ordinary Americans. It appears to become a political crisis and most Congressional Republicans and especially Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell are missing in action. Shame on all of them.
11
Simple question: Why does the president of the US need so many outside criminal lawyers?
Not White House counsel. Not lawyers to advise him on ethics. NO, these are lawyers who specialize in representing clients who have been accused of crimes.
13
"LIttle evidence has emerged to support that theory." This is an evergreen statement about pretty much everything Trump and his enablers/sycophants holler about in response to credible accusations of criminal behavior. If we start seeing Joe diGenova being given airtime on major networks to spout off nonsensical conspiracy theories, you can bank on Trump purging DoJ in the coming months.
1
Joseph diGenova abandoned his career of actually practicing law, although not trying cases, many years ago in order to play a conspiracy theorist/attorney on TV. He brings almost nothing to any actual legal defense of Trump. His role will be that of media attack dog. Our Boy President is gearing up to fire Mueller and the only hard question is when he will do it.
6
Kind of reminds me of when McCain announced that he had chosen Palin as a running mate. This atty seems a bit off, no? The ship is sinking.
5
Question: Is taxpayer money being used to hire these people?
6
My brother's wife's second cousin's dentist's neighbor absolutely knows that the everyone in Washington with the exception of the Fox News Bureau is framing trump, manufacturing evidence and staring luridly at his daughter.
I will gladly handle the Retainer fee and make sure it gets to the proper individual. Mr. Trump, please put $10,000 in small bills in brown paper bag and deliver it to the Washington DC Bus station Men's room, Third stall, behind the flush valve.
8
Vote this November. It's our patriotic duty, and our ability to cut trump off at the knees by disabling the obsequious trump-worshiping machine known as the GOP Congress. Friends don't let friends ignore their responsibility to vote; spread the word.
13
"Little evidence has emerged to support that theory."
What evidence has been found?
3
Remember how if Trump lost the election he was going to blame it on some kind of Obama/HRC/FBI conspiracy? Since he won the election he’s chosen to “tweak” the conspiracy and morph it into this nonsense.
I really can’t understand how even dyed-in-the-wool Republicans can stomach this. It’s an insult to the intelligence of voters no matter their party affiliation.
13
I would suggest that readers and reporters look at Seth Abramson's Twitter thread from late February about Mr. Di Genova and how he and Rudy Giuliani, Erik Prince of Blackwater, and others involved in this and the related True Pundit hoax acted in October 2016.
14
“Make no mistake about it: A group of F.B.I. and D.O.J. people were trying to frame Donald Trump of a falsely created crime.”
Little evidence has emerged to support that theory.
Actually no evidence has emerged to support that wild hair theory.
44
"Mr. diGenova has endorsed the notion that a secretive group of F.B.I. agents concocted the Russia investigation as a way to keep Mr. Trump from becoming president." The fact is that Comey reopened to investigation into Huilary's emails 10 days befoe the election. This helped to sink the election of Hillary. So in my mind the "secretive group" are GOPers who helped to elect Trump
44
One wishes that our nation was not filled with such ignoble men and women who are willing to sell our country down the drain to help the big LOSER. Yet, the Trump experience has brought them out of the woodwork. In addition to voting out the gutless GOP, I also hope that in the years to come the people who have sown such lies are refused any platform from which to perpetuate their propaganda. The tea party and its progeny seek to destroy this nation, not save it.
45
Big question: Will this new hire get paid, get stiffed, or get fired?
24
Probably the last two choices, judging from all the plaintiffs in line ahead of him!
1
Once upon a time when he was a special prosecutor, diGenova accused the Teamsters of obstruction of justice for playing hide-the-ball with requested documents. I wonder if he will allow the same standard to be applied to his client?
15
Trump is doing what he can to keep his base in line, and to feed his ego and vent frustration. He is accustomed, like a small bratty child, in getting what he wants. It works to an extent, because he deals with an ignorant base that has no knowledge of US or world events, and in hiring Svengali-like lawyers to try the case in public. IF the GOP had any ethics, backbone, or cared about this Country, they'd draft articles of impeachment. The man, Trump, is turning the Republic, upside down, attempting to turn a democracy into a strong man state.
I once voted GOP, but not again. This party has no clothes.
35
Joe knows he can't control Trump, so is he just going in for the witness statement? This guy so wants to amount to something worth writing because nothing he's done so far is worth writing about.
8
Another one of the "best people" climbs aboard. There has to be something off about any lawyer who would have trump for a client. His current lawyers have acted out every lawyer joke ever told and then some. Is the Trump campaign still paying for his legal fees? If he has a shred on intelligence left, he'd better make sure they are. Maybe he's good at insanity defenses.
18
POTUS seems to be insulating his cabinet from invoking 25th amendment while laying minefields for the 'investigation' and daily deflecting reports re where the 'investigation' may be going.ie he has been acting apprehensive and insecure like one who desires for the truth to be known
4
To quote Steven Stills:
"Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away
We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down"
Written over 50 years ago in anticipation of the Trump Presidency...
30
Sounds like a brilliant legal mind.....NOT. Anyone who is charged with leading an investigation as a special prosecutor who then publicly declares the investigation was 'unnecessary' is proving himself to be nothing more than a partisan hack. A perfect fit for the trump legal team.
17
A long time ago, actually not so long ago, third world countries had these farce media antics from their government leaders. Did we become a third world country? Did this happen because of the trade wars which have yet to start or the fact that most people in the world believe Czar Putin's lackey's hold on the Pretend King Trump is tightening? Look around folks, it looks like it happened with little fan fare. Are we there yet?
15
Obama was already investigating Russia. Trump called for Russia's help to get Clinton's emails while campaigning. He invited Russia to mess with our Election and they came up with the emails for him.
17
Trump certainly wants to fire Mueller and is aggressively playing the PR card. He theorizes that he must discredit Mueller to retain the support of the 80% of Republicans who still support him.
GOP House and Senate members are more concerned about their own reelection than about Trump's wrongdoing or possible lack thereof. To the extent that Trump retains his support among those Republicans, GOP House members and Senators up for reelection this year will not go against him. If he loses that support, he loses those House members and Senators.
Hiring this guy may be a smart move. He knows that those who oppose him will never be brought over to his side, and he does not care about them except to the extent that he can portray them as common enemies of him and his base.
Trump is caught at the bottom of a rain barrel. He will not quit his own defense unless and until he absolutely must do so to avoid prison or substantial loss of money. There is no tactic that Trump might employ that should surprise us.
If he can reach a point where he concludes that he is no worse off firing Mueller than by letting him continue, he will fire him. We can bet that Trump has people in the House, e.g., Devin Nunes, keeping track on how GOP House members would vote on a bill of impeachment if he fired Mueller. Best guess is right now he has not the votes to survive it. That is what he is working to change.
10
Anyone who has been in Washington for the past twenty years has heard the many conspiracy theories Mr.diGenova espouses and has witnessed the distain he has for anyone who disagrees with him, which is about everyone. He will add more heat than light to the serious work that Mr.Mueller is doing and will be a divisive figure in the conduct of the probe.
24
Not getting into the merits or anything like that but, in order for his theory to have worked, we should have heard a lot more about Russian interference before the election than we did, right?
5
My grandfather, born in 1908, was a hard-working railroad worker with a 2nd grade education. When the moon landing happened, he declared it a hoax, because, with his lack of scientific knowledge, and lack of related experience, it was simply too fantastical to be believed. Nothing would convince him otherwise, and he died at 86, believing men have never walked on the moon. He was not an unintelligent man, nor was he given to anti-government rhetoric, as a life-long "big government" Democrat. He just couldn't believe something most could plainly see.
I believe Mr. Trump, and many who would follow him (even if he shot someone in the street), have a similar orthodoxy, and a similar blind spot. They lack the imagination to believe that a vast, long-standing conspiracy is playing out---not against Mr. Trump and his ilk, but against the people of the United States, and democracy, itself, around the globe. While I am sure Donald J. Trump knows he has benefitted from Russia's efforts, he, like my beloved Grandpa, simply can't face facts in evidence against him---even ones he knows, or should know, to be true. He tells himself that he would've won, even without anyone's help, because, by God, he's Donald John Trump, a born winner. The president, who touts his business school education, has the same willing ignorance about what most reasonable people can readily see and accept. Is it any surprise, then, that he seeks refuge in a member of the bar who sees things the same way?
28
Thank you for putting into words how anyone could possibly not believe that the United States of America, our Constitution, and our way of life is under heavy attack. Whether or not Trump campaign actually exchanged help or had a an understanding to lift Russia sanctions for help with the election, the fact remains and every security analyst and homeland security agent knows for a fact that Putin has had a long standing desire to crush Western and European democracies, but has an especial hatred for the USA because of the past.
The fact that Homeland security, CIA, FBI and several intelligence and Homeland security senators and US press have warned that Russia not only infiltrated our elections and is doing so again this year, but has the capability of messing with or controlling our 1. water reserves, 2. Power grid, and 3. nuclear facilities, is a high alert national security issue!
They had better believe it, and the White House must assist Homeland security in changing these issues.
Alas, some will not believe these truths, because it does not fit their propagandized agenda.
1
There are three lines of defense for the nation against Donald Trump: First, the American people, who will hopefully hold forth in majority in the next two election cycles, 2018 and 2020, and neutralize him, then defeat him. Second, Robert Mueller, who may possibly indict the president with impeachment or resignation to follow. Third, and possibly most important, the Congress, particularly the Republican members of the Senate, who if the president seeks to fire Mueller will uphold the integrity of this nation and join with Democrats in seeking to block the president, and ultimately advocate for his removal if the facts warrant.
9
Relying on the spineless, groveling Republicans in Congress is futile. They will be silent while our democracy is crumbled, brick by brick.
You are absolutey correct that we need to vote the enabling Republicans and trump out of office.
Vote in 2018 and 2020!!!
4
One simple question re: Stormy. If there is nothing to disclose, why does djt need a non-disclosure agreement?
22
A non-disclosure that prohibits the sharing of emails, photos or videos. Why would something that does not exist, need a non-disclosure, not to disclose?
There are more lawyers than doctors, scientists and engineers. Why because are laws are too complex for anyone with a college degree. Anyone who runs a business knows that without the right legal team they are toast.
1
So he's not with the FBI or Justice Dept
but "knows" for certain a group concocted an elaborate scheme to frame Trump? Yeah that's believable. Why should TRump pay for this mouthpiece when Fox does it for free?
62
You are under the misunderstanding that trump pays his bills. This guy is going to get stiffed, unless he got a retainer up-front.
Where does he find these two-bit geniuses?
47
I think they find him!
In the same stable he obviously lives in.
1
One can only hope that Trump puts the crackpot Mr. diGenova at the head of his defense team.
63
Trump has finally found someone to take Jeff Sessions's place. Meet our new AG (if not this "lawyer", who - of equal "stature"; if not now, when?).
13
The blind hiring the blind.
27
Tick...tick...tick...tick...Jail time! Right this way, Citizen Trump.
35
I am through being disgusted by Trump. He's a narcissistic child who can't help himself. My contempt is not fully channeled to the GOP who is allowing this man-child to destroy our country. I live in a state with where i'm lucky to be represented by Wyden and Merkley. I will donate money and perhaps physically go to another state to help defeat someone...like Ryan.
56
Make.It.Stop.
I want to poke myself in the eye with a fork.
61
Now we know how Russians feel; and Brutus, too. Is there nothing I can do? That was rather Greek of you, too. Leave the poking to the president, Oedipus. The guilt is his alone.
5
Shouldn't "Send in the Clowns" be playing in the background?
65
Well…he'd did says he was draining the swamp.

So far there are about 13 Republican lawyers and TV personalities on the Trump team to combat Mueller and his 13 Democrats.
When people are guilty, they either take a plea or they counter-attack in the hope that a shred of something sticks to the wall. Trump has never admitted anything, so this is right out of his and Roy Cohn's playbook.
30
With his private legal team now dwarfing the Office of White House Counsel (at least in terms of ego if not numbers), how on earth will a cogent defense strategy be assembled?
4
Joe is a camera hound going back decades.
He had faded recently in his dotage, so its no surprise that he would embrace even an insane conspiracy theory to attempt to grasp a particle of limelight.
However disgraceful, grasping, lunatic and tainted.
89
Good Luck! This guy is a real joke, and an embarrassment to the legal profession.
79
AKA only the best people
1
When is America going to see Trump's hidden tax returns?
122
The entire family empire is a shell game
1
Don't worry, be happy Mueller can see them with FISA warrants, and Trump doesn't even know it! National security, just like his steely dagger thingy.
2
The Times "reporter" says: "Little evidence has emerged to support that theory."
That is a remarkable statement. How many stories about the putative "collusion" between Russia and Trump has the Times run while noting that "no evidence has emerged to support that theory"? The case diGenova makes is at least supported by circumstantial evidence.
Mr. Trump’s lega

birds of feather!
26
Hilarious.
So a secret group of brazen FBI agents forced Junior and Kushner to meet with Russians in June 2016 for the stated purpose of receiving oppo research, which is a crime under 52 U.S.C. Section 30121.
That was after a secret group of brazen FBI agents tricked Trump into hiring a campaign manager with strong Russian ties and foreign money laundering and tax evasion problems (Manafort).
Then this stealth group of FBI agents hypnotized Trump, thereby forcing him to insert pro-Russia positions into the Republican Party platform, praise Putin, fire Comey admittedly over the Russia investigation, and then blab Israel’s state secretes to Russian agents in the oval office days later.
And Trump’s former National Security Advisor and “lock her up” cheerleader, Mike Flynn, pled guilty for no reason.
And that time a tipsy George Papadopoulos told the Australians that the Trump campaign was using Russian hacks to win, and then lied about it? Well, that didn’t happen either. One of the stealth group of FBI agents impersonated him.
And the stealth group of FBI agents forced Kushner into lying multiple times in his clearance application about his foreign contacts, and also kidnapped Erik Prince and flew him to the Seychelles to set up an illegal back channel on Trump’s behalf.
Makes perfect sense.
385
Spot on. May I borrow your summary (with attribution of course), at dinner time conversation this evening?
4
Perfect analysis. This is how delusional # 45 yes, and it’s hard to believe he can get some one with a law degree to go along with this.
2
Fantastic Ann!

Here's to pink slips for the GOP in November.
113
Best and brightest is more like crazy and craziest.
32
I hope some judge sanctions this guy using Rule 11 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure if he tries to bring a meritless case without any factual support that is based on the cockamamie lies that he has espoused on FAUX News.
That would be a good start.
56
Mr. diGenova: “Make no mistake about it: A group of F.B.I. and D.O.J. people were trying to frame Donald Trump of a falsely created crime.”
I do not have the words to explain just how much I detest Trump. He is destroying the whole government because of his destructive ignorance and illegal activities that he wants to keep hidden. Chaos and deflect, lie and accuse. He is never, ever wrong about anything. How long do we have to endure this monster?
65
Until November, then impeachment. Although waiting that long is painful. Maybe t-rump will trip himself up before that date, and we can all breathe a sigh of relief. He is stupid enough to do something so outrageous before then that the stable genius will be criminally accountable.
1
“Not responsible”, of course by which you mean, he asserts that he is never wrong and will never take responsibility nor apologize for anything. This is typical and a hallmark Of the malignant narcissist!
Anything that goes wrong is always someone or something else’s fault. Frequent scapegoats are: spouse, coworkers, friends, enemies, Technology, anyone in or out of the narcissist’s Circle, & the whole world.
You will never ever see a true narcissist take responsibility for his or her mistakes.
An so it continues...just when we thought that the ship could not sink any lower, along comes a bottom feeder with a thimble to bale out just enough to keep afloat the flotsam and jetsam raft upon which Donald Trump stands. What a joke and a colossal waste of time and money. Donald Chump is a disgrace. I have never feared more about the sanctity of our democracy.
24
trumps just dove off the high dive and guess what? no water in the pool.
21
The Democrat party in it’s current form doesn’t have much longer to live. For all of Trump’s faults - he has clarified and focused the GOP message. The neocons are out.
The Democrats don’t see the freight train coming at them. As soon as you take Trump out of the equation the Democrats have nothing keeping them together. They are all over the map on every domestic and foreign issue facing this country and, like Republicans before them, ceded foreign policy to the war mongers.
1
Max...stay tuned for the mid-terms. I'm thinking the Dems (and sanity) will prevail.
3
There was a Max from Brooklyn who used to troll NPR website 24 hours a day before they shut down their comment section. He used lots of phrases you can hear on Fox News. Any relation?
This guy was a U.S. attorney for D.C.? And he's now claiming that the long list of incriminating things that Trump, his family, and his cronies have done (lying, sometimes under oath, about their Russian contacts; several guilty pleas by former Trump associates; agreeing to receive oppo research from the Russian government; firing Comey over Russia; failing to file as foreign agents; tons of money from Russian oligarchs; inserting pro-Russia stand in Republican platform; and/or telling top secret information to Russians in oval office) -- all of that is a grand illusion perpetrated by a secret cabal of brazen FBI agents?
Um, do we need an investigation of what diGenova did in the powerful job of U.S. Attorney? Because he's either lying or he's insane.
21
Or maybe he just needs the money.
3
What is truly sad is the simple fact that an entire media network is behind Trump and does not care about the facts, just "winning" as they see it. Even at the expense of weakening our democracy. Look at how ridiculous this has become, Warren is somehow disqualified because maybe she misspoke about having some native ancestry, but the right is a non stop hypocritical lie factory, and no one cares.
9
Further evidence that Trump is off his rocker. He needs another "outspoken player for the president" like a submarine needs a screen door. What can diGenova add that Hannity, Limbaugh et al haven't already said? Adding one voice to this chorus of whackos will do him no good. Trump evidently has concluded that one more voice saying the same thing on Fox will somehow derail Mueller.
He'll probably have to have more self-serving rallies seeking campaign donations to help defray this new expense. No wonder he went bankrupt so many times.
14
I believe he's finding his siphon into the US taxpayer to be pretty lucrative.
3
....and don't forget the parade.
3
Thump says he likes war, he will do just that when he feels the noose tightening.
"Little evidence has emerged to support that theory...." Really? Don't you mean "No evidence has emerged?"
11
Well, well, the president is truly getting disparate, as well as desperate, with the truth. Very creative. The next thing you know, part of his 'team' will include someone with the initials V.P., and I don't mean Vice President.
4
That won't help you, little man. I know you think your powers of persuasion are bottomless, but you may have another think coming.
It will be up to the news media NOT to turn this guy into a "star" that appears on every show all the time and every headline, because surely that is precisely what Trump is counting on.
5
The big problem with these conspiracy guys on Trump’s side is they prefer conspiracies they made up that are pure fantasy while we have a real conspiracy by the Russians to thoroughly trash and elminate Hillary which they succeeded at, and they’ve interfered with our voting booths and have plans to shut down our power system but they prefer to believe this horror of a cruel, mean ad utterly vindictive creature has been set up by a rogue FBI bunch deep in the FBI. Wow. We are now without a doubt in The Apprentice, the White House years. When will this end?
6
So Trump is hiring someone who believes in him and supports him? The horror! I would have thought he would have hired someone from the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock, Arkansas. Give it a break.
1
Somehow, I don't expect that this'll scare Mueller off.
11
Seems the only section of Trump’s administration that isn’t losing people by the week is his legal team. A job creator, indeed!
14
Ahh, but the strawberries that's... that's where I had them. They laughed at me and made jokes but I proved beyond the shadow of a doubt and with... geometric logic... that a duplicate key to the wardroom icebox DID exist, and I'd have produced that key if they hadn't of pulled the Caine out of action. I, I, I know now they were only trying to protect some fellow officers...
14
Maybe if he gets a jury of committed fox viewers he'll have a chance to sell that line of swill otherwise he'll be cracking rocks next to Don Jr. and Jared on the chain gang. T
his choice says more of his state of mind than those crazy tweets he wastes his time with. He's totally unhinged and far removed from reality.
7
Because now Trump knows he's in trouble he has to throw shade on the evidence that will inevitably turn up.
5
I'm sure he's heard Trump doesn't pay his lawyers. And maybe they're going with that Space Force theory he talked about this week. DiGenova looks like he would be into that. Trump would be the leader and diGenova would be his commander. Yeah, that's the ticket. The show goes on like Ground Hog Day. And goes on, and . . .
6
Just what we need--another sycophantic toady to scream Trump's innocence on Fox News and other outlets. We had a series of these guys--Sebastian Gorka, Anthony Scaramucci and of course Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Another propagandist in the White House is one too many. Does Trump think that no one sees what he is doing?
15
This could end very badly for everyone.
2
Oh goodie. Who will join Team Trump next? Sybil the Soothsayer? (A nod to Paddy Chayefsky’s prescience.)
6
Before we get all teary-eyed about Andy McCabe losing his pension, McCabe’s net worth is more than $11 million.
https://finapp.co.in/andrew-mccabe-net-worth/
Andy McCabe is part of the Republican Establishment Elites who hate Trump. Comey, the Bush family puppet, is in the same club.
Before you start discounting that a frame actually did occur, think about how much disdain these rich people have for the average joe in America. They don’t even think the average U.S. is qualified to vote simply because they voted for someone whose policies threaten their power.
The Mainstream Media is part of this cabal. Before you argue they’re not, remember the Mainstream Media corporations are For Profit, and they din’t exist without ratings and advertising dollars.
Sometimes things are not always the way people in power want you to believe they are. They actually believe they are doing this in your best interest because you are too stupid to make good decisions.
Many who don’t like Trump agree, but then they must also agree to forfeit control of other decisions, and they should have no problem relinquishing all decisions that govern society to the handful of elites who decide who will be Preisdent.
In a perverse way, Trump is actually good for the long term health of this country because he really did stop the Establishment Elites from taking control by anointing Hillary as President. They are very upset because there was a deal between the Establishment Elites If both parties
4
well said, Alexei. I'm sure Vlad will give you a bonus for imagination.
What could possibly go wrong?
5
Oh, brother. All.Trump needs now is a big cartoon sign to hang around his cartoon neck:
"I WUZ FRAMED!"
8
Good. He gets the lawyers he deserves.
And the kids.
And the Chief of Staff.
And the Attorney General.
And the public spokeswoman.
And the cabinet.
And, and, and...
You wouldn't want to go on a canoe trip with this group.
6
That's the last straw and I couldn't stop laughing when I read this article about a lawyer Giuseppe di Genova whatever...presumably hired by Trump - before Trump was even being charged. Trump once again wants people to think he is a victim by being 'framed'. The truth is that yes Trump is a victim, the victim of his own shady activities - because let's face it - if Trump hasn't committed anything wrong why would he be hiring avvocato di Genova? This 45th president is a disgrace to the US seemingly run by a mob.
9
Another self-serving conspiracy theorist who likes to hear himself talk, loves to see himself on TV to enhance his status as a hard-hitting defense attorney.
Great Mr. Trump, hire the mouthpiece to say what you want to convince your gullible base that you're the victim, instead of the entire country you're victimizing with your lies, distortions, hate mongering and general narcissistic views.
Trump will attempt to destroy anyone who isn't with him and the irreparable harm he is doing to the Department of Justice and law enforcement in general, is tremendous. How can any true patriot do and say the things he does and still say he has respect for law enforcement and the military? Trump is the sham and a very dangerous one and now he'll have an ethically challenged defender going on all the Fox entertainment shows to spread the irresponsible lies and theories which his base will eat up.
Trump, diGenova and their ilk are a greater threat to our country than Iran & North Korea combined.
8
Instead of a military parade down Pennsylvania Ave on Veteran's Day, maybe we can have a parade of Trump's attorneys. My proposal: hold it on Love Your Lawyer's Day--- yup, it's a real day: first Friday of November.
6
What do you bet the incipient House investigation into this conspiracy will be more robust and exhaustive as the recently concluded Russia investigation?
3
If Trump was framed, it was by Putin, his good friend and inspiration for autocracy.
3
Hunkering down in the bunker, Trump is now gathering the remaining loyal sycophants and opportunists to reinforce his skewed views and self-aggrandisement in a last-ditch effort to save his tarnished name and family money-laundering business. Even Ivanka and Jared will bail before the final reckoning. Note I did not say anything about his all-too-apparent lack of motivation to defend either the presidency or the country — that was never going to happen. Trump against the world is soon to be must-see TV, even better than the OJ trial. The ratings will be HUGE.
3
I love this move by Trump. The more he deludes himself and believes his own lies, the more he'll ignore the fact that he's on fire, and the less he does to effectively protect himself.
3
My biggest fear is that Trump being successful in dividing the country and gathering a cult of loyal followers will not take well of being found guilty of collusion. He will not go away peacefully, but will foment an insurrection that will be violent. I am sure all of his base even their children are armed with AR15's and are ready to defend Trump at any cost.
5
Here we go with another lawyer, and the next round of Donald Trump's "Poor-me-I-was-framed victimization theory".
Apparently word has reached him that Robert Mueller means business and won't stop digging until he hits rock bottom.
And as usual, this elicits one more tantrum from Mr. Trump who is more concerned about keeping face than preserving the integrity of the office he is woefully unfit to be in.
Stay tuned for more tears and tweets. Because this is only the beginning.
4
Trump has been framed. However not in mendacious way. Trump is a target for removal from his office.
there you go - how to legitimize fake news. mr. trump got the upper hand. such approach, one day, will haunt all citizens not just democrats or republicans. i feel sorry for the country but stay positive.
2
Notice that Trump's assumption is he will be found guilty.
6
Again, a news story that contains flagrant editorializing. "Little evidence to support this theory': what about the emails between FBI officials referring to an insurance policy and to 'Andy?' How about the abnormal manner in which the Clinton inquiry was concluded and announced? How about use of the Steele document w/ FISA court without disclosure of its source and provenance in order to conduct surveillance of persons associated with a presidential campaign? Repeatedly. McCabe was called out by two DOJ career legal bodies: inspector general; FBI office of professional responsibility. A special counsel is a hammer that will call anything a nail -unwise, extra-constitutional institution. FBI has always been highly skilled but at upper levels, highly political. Liberals didn't like that when it was Hoover.
2
Trump would benefit from the advice of a highly respected criminal defense attorney. Ironically, his own inability to accept that such a lawyer might know more than him, and his choice of one who will instead present the defense Trump wants will be his undoing.
3
Of course he would hire a conspiracy theorist as lawyer. This is part of the plan and his only hope of escaping impeachment. The war is on and democracy is at stake.
4
Follow up question on this quote: "Ms. Toensing has also represented Sam Clovis, the former Trump campaign co-chairman, and Erik Prince." Does she currently represent either? Might this be an attempt to coordinate testimony?
2
Trump is hiring cabinet members based on their television presence. Now he’s hiring a TV lawyer. What could go wrong?
5
Trump's real concern is Mueller finding the money trail that surely exists and links our President to a jaw-dropping conspiracy to enrich the Trump family by using the Presidency as their business headquarters. Mueller will not disappoint.
4
I'm assuming we still live in a legal system wherein you need evidence to go along your narrative. Let's see what Trump and his fellow narrators can do to push pack against hard evidence. My guess: not much.
4
Our tax dollars at work...while millions go hungry, homeless, forgotten.
5
The Emperor has no clothes, and his consciousness of guilt is showing.
4
So, this guy was in cahoots with Giuliani, communicating with the NYPD and rogue agents in the NY field office of the FBI, probably in violation of the Hatch Act. They teamed up to pressure Comey to notify Congress of the Weiner laptop situation, which Nate Silver concludes threw the election to tRump in the final days. His aggressive lies and conspiracy theories will all be part of an active campaign to discredit Mueller. tRump knows that his only hope at this point is to gin up conspiracy theories and try to discredit Mueller’s findings.
4
With all the "adults" (some adults) purged, Trump is going to go full reality TV gangster. This is not going to end well.
2
TV stars for the reality president. I think this lawyer and his wife made tons of money off the the GOP when they were investigating Clinton. But of lesser note is what they did during the Valerie Plame controversy. Very expensive team that love to go before the cameras at the drop of a hat. Right up Donald Trump's alley, they have been milking the GOP for years. Conspiracy theorists from way back. Hannity probably recommended them to Trump. Y'all know that is who is running the country, right?
2
God help our country. Trump is doing his best to destroy the country. It will take years to repair all the damage he is doing. Congress, please stand up and impeach this man before it is too late!
5
Trump is as paranoid as Richard Nixon was. We need to get Trump out of the White House just like we did Nixon. At least Nixon signed the EPA into existence. Trump does nothing but destroy.
14
Well, what kind of lawyer do you think Trump would want to hire? One that has a highly regarded reputation for integrity and pursuing truth and justice?
Trump--who has nothing but contempt for truth, law, and justice, and like any guilty hack--plans to try the Mueller case in the kangaroo court of Fox News and alt-right public opinion.
What else could Trump do but reach down to the bottom of the swampland of conspiracy-promoting TV lawyers to get himself a lawyer who is deeply estranged from truth and justice?
35
A lawyer that has a "highly regarded reputation..." wouldn't take his as a client. He was turned down months ago by the best lawyers and law firms around. Trump won't listen to them, he has a reputation for not paying fees and he also lies under oath. If you want your reputation/career to die then work for trump.
Mr. Trump now apparently feels it is fine to behave as he always has. He is surrounding himself with thuggish lawyers and TV promoters of conspiracy theories. Apparently he believes that Congressional Republicans will never do anything at all to stop him.
Mr. Dowd, Trump's lawyer, lied when he claimed that the president had not asked him to attack the investigation. The notion that "a secretive group of F.B.I. agents concocted the Russia investigation as a way to keep Mr. Trump from becoming president" is a giant lie.
Those lies alone could very well be obstruction of justice. I assume Mr. Mueller is paying attention.
By all accounts, the unprecedented and improper actions of the FBI and Mr. Comey prior to the election were one of the several principal causes of Sec. Clinton's defeat.
Mr. Sessions has now twice in as many days violated his recusal responsibilities. During his confirmation, he promised to recuse himself on all matters pertaining to Sec. Clinton. And the matter of Mr. McCabe bears directly on Mr. Mueller's investigation--from which Sessions had already recused himself.
Shame, shame on the supporters and enablers of this manifestly unfit president. What are they thinking?
22
Someone needs to school thump that this is not a reality show. He clearly did not read the contract, nor understand what he said when he placed his tiny hand on TWO Bibles and took an oath to protect and serve the country above all. We need to dumb down the oath to second grade so thump can look at it in pictures. I doubt that will work though he'll just resort to his second-grade behaviors and punch everyone.
As we saw in the OJ trial, when the defense of a blatantly guilty person takes it upon themselves to rely on conspiracy theories and government plots, America becomes even more divided and full of confusion and hate and paranoia. I’m very much looking forward to this era of politics ending, even though the media circus of this inpending trial is likely just about to begin.
9
The Republicans got their cherished tax cut for the wealthy. They have more than accomplished their goal of shrinking the federal government. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why they're allowing the Trump administration to continue on like this. How much more damage to the reputation of the office of President are they willing to let this guy commit? Not mention the reputation of FBI and DOJ. You got your precious tax cut, guys. End this.
22
Exactly. Sometimes I wonder if most of them really want to see Trump outta there. After all, they will continue to get everything they want with Pence.
"Little evidence has emerged to support that theory."
Yes, there is little evidence in the public domain to support that theory, but there are facts known to the public that suggest efforts within the Justice Department that were either careless or ill-intended with respect to instigating the investigation of President Trump. A good summary of these facts was recently published in The National Review
https://www.nationalreview.com/2018/03/russia-collusion-real-story-hilla...
4
LOL. They said "facts", not more conspiracy theories from an alt-right publication.
The National Review is basically Breitbart without the White Nationalists. Not exactly know for their "balanced" view points. Or grasp on reality.
The National Review is a right-wing publication that tries to sell myths and fake news as real news. Using anything published in that magazine or its website to show what really happened is both scary and funny.
I actually believe Trump watches Fox News propaganda, and is making a number of his decisions based on this misinformation.
Normally “strongmen” governments develop propaganda.
Has the world ever seen a President, buy into and act on external propaganda before?
4
That Trump gets his “news” and information off Fox is fact and does not have to be guessed at as it’s been in the real news constantly and you can see Fox and Friends words of the day all over Trump’s twitter words of the day. Then his night time Fox contact is Hannity with whom he confers on policy and what to believe and what to do about it. We are fully in Trump’s Reality The Apprentice White House Years TV show now. Not fun, is it?
1
Joseph E. di Genova resembles one of those radical right-wing conspiracy theorists more than a lawyer. But as many have predicted, as the investigation closes in, Trump will flail and become more desperate in his attempts to undermine our justice system. The real tragedy is that while he does damage to our fundamental institution of laws, he continues to ignore the very serious violations of our sovereignty perpetrated by Russia and his pal, Vladimir Putin.
6
There's literally a ton of evidence that a group of top level FBI agents are trying to frame Trump for something. From Joe Struck to his paramour, Lisa Page, to Andrew McCabe and maybe higher up. They just don't want him to be President. It will come out in time with the Inspector General's report. It was the OPR office, totally non-partisan, that fired McCabe.
6
Of course a Trump apologist would claim that there are "literally" 907 kilograms of evidence supporting this latest conspiracy theory.
3
The whole DOJ is supposed to be "non-partisan" but we know its not. So how exactly did this little group of FBI agents convince the entire US Intelligence apparatus as well as that of several of our allies to all go along with some "Trump Hunt". Or did you forget that People within the Trump campaign had been on the radar of the Intelligence community for being way to close to the russian government long BEFORE they ever met Trump, before trump was even the GOP nominee. And what about all the ADMITTED contacts between trumps people and Russian government officials? There is absolutely no reason for any foreign government interactions until the candidate actually takes office.
Paramour, lol. Have you considered that the FBI agent was so freaked out by evidence he saw of Mr. Trump’s financial relationship with Russia and his potential for blackmail of both Mr. Trump himself and his extended family, that that’s why he was so concerned about the possibility of a Trump ascendency?
If there’s nothing to be afraid of why is Trump afraid. Somehow I keep getting a feeling that it’s all going to end up in the hands of the New York attorney general’s office.
4
Someone needs to point out to Trump that he is surrounding himself with cartoon characters. And I don't think it's because no respectable people will work for him!
1
But what's the conspiracy about? If it's about "collusion with Russia in the campaign," Trump may well have insulated himself through his son and other surrogates. If, on the other hand, it concerns obstruction of justice, that's a bit stiffer accusation to dodge. Because the witnesses aren't shady Russian entities but former FBI officials who can testify. All this looks like misdirection to me, for which Trump is famous. I have no admiration for Trey Gowdy, but he hit the nail on the head: if Trump's innocent, what has he to fear?
3
Love it. Some of my Deep Red State friends will hop on board this bandwagon to nowhere. They are sure he is innocent of whatever Mr. Mueller is pursuing, but they have no answer as to why President Trump is so worried about it.
3
So Joseph E. diGenova is a spin doctor, what lawyer today isn't.
He can say whatever he wants to, but the truth will come out in the end and that truth will either exonerate or bury Trump.
The real problem here is that Trump is doing everything in his power to obstruct justice and that has to stop.
8
It is worth pointing out in the interest of full context that Erik Prince is not only the founder of Blackwater and an informal advisor to Trump but is also the brother of Education Secretary Betsey DeVos.
9
We appear to be coming closer and closer to that point where Trump's assault on truth and the blind faith of his supporters create a very scary and real crisis in our country. Trump is so intent on saving himself that he is willing to take down one of the pillars of our democracy to do so. To suggest that the DOJ and FBI "framed him," or, in other words, conspired to purposely remove the president in no small matter--especially if such (more than likely) not true. As we have seen over and over again since the presidential campaign, Trump supporters are more than willing to believe whatever comes our of Trump's mouth--despite the fact that he has been shown to be dishonest time and again. But distorting facts or crowd sizes is one thing, casting our federal law enforcement agencies as thoroughly corrupt is something else entirely. I certainly hope this isn't the new propaganda message we should expect from Trump and his surrogates.
4
If I go on TV and say that Trump is being hunted by a secret faction inside of the justice department - I can get a high paying job and get to talk on the news everyday? This could solve unemployment across the country - everybody should start signing up.
4
As we are all aware, most CEOs hire senior executives and outside counsel based on the number of their TV appearances and amenability to being sycophants. Competency is rarely a prerequisite.
1
It's so perfectly obvious that someone who had nothing to serious to hide would never act this way. To allow the President of the U.S. to possibly have financial obligations, debt, possible blackmail threats to and by the Kremlin (a government hostile to all democratic institutions and actively trying to destroy them) is pure insanity on our part, the people of this country. It is dangerous for everyone in this country to allow interference in Meuller's perfectly reasonable investigation into the ties that Donald Trump and his family appear to have to the Kremlin.
10
Trump still thinks the Mueller investigation is a tabloid PR issue. Hiring a Fox conspiracy theorist for his legal team will only cause problems for him as his real attorneys try to mount a serious legal defense. This will not influence the judges, prosecutors or grand jury members involved in the investigation except to reduce his credibility. It may even lead his clack on the House intelligence committee to make more blunders like the Nunes memo that convinced no one. Trump will likely fire Mueller at some point but lawyers with wild conspiracy theories will only undermine Trump in the firestorm that will follow Mueller's firing.
4
When trying to understand what Trump's loyal supporters read or view tthat informs their perspective it is clear that they cleave to conspiracy theories, typically with no evidence of support. Thus; it is no surprise that another pseudo celebrity lawyer has surfaced. Trump's energies focus on distraction and obfuscation, or as it has been termed: "whataboutism." His are the kind of actions that one probably witnessed in elementary and junior high school from a bully or group of bullies. That is where Trump's development was arrested.
6
I was tickled by the phrase, "Mr. Trump frequently changes his mind and sometimes adjusts his plans." Such a delicate, temperate choice of words! In other words, no one knows precisely what is in Donald Trump's mind from one minute to the next.
7
The facts and the evidence are going to solve these mysteries, not the theories going into the proceedings. Trump can hire any lawyer he wants who agrees with him beforehand, but if it goes to court, the lawyer who evaluates the evidence coldbloodily, without a preconceived conclusion, will serve him best. A portion of his undoing indeed resides in his weakness for sycophants.
5
"Where's my Roy Cohn ?" demanded Daycare Donnie.
Don't worry, Donnie, evil help is on the way.
8
It seems now that tRump has more lawyers than cabinet members. It's great to see where his priorities are and I hope his voters are happy.
3
Adding one more attorney with a crackpot conspiracy theory to your legal team: About $1,000/hr.
Helping Mr. Mueller cut you off at the knees by previewing the crackpot conspiracy theories you intend to rely on once accused of wrongdoing: Priceless.
128
He is probably getting much more than $1,000/hour. While Trump is known for not paying his contractors in full and on time, he probably is paying these bills the minute they arrive.
2
diGenova was great fun during the long Clinton impeachment process - a regular on the Geraldo show, a tenacious bulldog after Clinton, brilliantly partisan and great on TV. Perfect for Trump. The circus expands. Let the jousting begin!
18
This had better be on his nickel and not the taxpayers'. Not on his campaign committee's either.

The government pays hundreds of thousands of dollars to Trump's company everytime he travels... because he stays in his hotels and sends us the bill. In his first year $13,000,000 was spent on travel... much more than any other president ever spent. And, we don't get breaks on the room rates either. My guess is this new hire is on our dime too.
1
",,,on his nickel,,," David you might have to explain this to some... :-)
No, never on trump's nickel. Somebody else will be paying to absolve him of his deceitful nature and crimes.
And another passenger gets about the bus to crazyland.
48
I'm not sure "bus" is the right metaphor. I think it's a slow-motion trainwreck. And on the train, there is a Dumpster whose contents are in flames.
2
This esquire is right out of central casting for a supporting role in a godfather mob movie. With the name: diGenova, famous Fox News pomposity spinner will only serve to make Trump an even bigger buffoon. Essentially, a group of old balding guys eating too many Propecia tablets hoping to feel powerful and needed.
37
I think Trump must have way more lawyers than any other president.
This Walter Scott quote may well describes the situation Trump is in.
"Oh! What A Tangled Web We Weave When First We Practice To Deceive"
No wonder Trump looks and acts stressed out. He’s literally told thousands of lies just since he’s Ben elected.
14
Another Sir Walter Scott: "..if such there breathe go mark him well. For him no minstrel raptures swell. High though his title, proud his name, boundless his wealth as wish could claim; despite this title, power and pelf, the wretch, concentered all in self, living shall forfeit fair renown and doubly dying shall go down to the foul dust from which he sprung. Unwept, unhonored and unsung."
Seems fitting!
Help me understand this: "There was a brazen plot to illegally exonerate Hillary Clinton, and, if she didn't win the election, to then frame Donald Trump with a falsely created crime"? And this was led by James Comey who almost singlehandedly derailed Clinton's bid for the presidency by announcing the reopening of FBI's email inquiry two weeks before election day?
The only thing more amazing than saying that with a straight face is that some thirty percent of the American public will believe it.
484
Closer to 40% 0 0
0
Yup, and 30% of Americans also believe in Adam & Eve and talking snakes.
4
“Little evidence”? NO evidence of this theory.
38
Trump continues to attack the Mueller team as partisan and full of Democrats. He conveniently never mentions both Mueller and Comey are life-long Republicans.
37
So was McCabe, in case anyone forgot.
2
If Trump was framed by the DOJ, why is there evidence of Team Trump's multiple contacts with Russian entities, and why did everyone on Team Trump lie about those contacts until the evidence of their lying was irrefutable?
If Russian manipulation of our election is a myth concocted by the DOJ to frame the president, why is there so much evidence of dirty tricks and stolen e-mails that all point to the electoral sabotage of HRC's campaign?
What would be the motive for the DOJ to frame DJT? It's improbable that the Mueller investigation is a cabal of "hardened Democrats". Law enforcement professionals don't tend to be left wing ideologues or political activists. Mr. diGenova's claims of a DOJ frame-up smells like legal opportunism. Right wing attorneys may be a minority in the legal profession, but they're not above sniffing out the possibility of a fat retainer from paranoid politicians.
32
Follow the FISA warrant on Carter Page and the evidence is clear that the FBI cabal manipulated the process. Comey admits to leaking to get a special counsel. McCabe fired by his peers for leaking and lying. Strock and mistress gleeful text messages are all the evidence I need.
The president is getting his TV talking team together. I guess that's his strategy to fend off the facts the pour from the Mueller investigation. Let's see how well that works. heh heh.
19
Oh my, the dude is desperate. Trump has neither the facts nor law on his side and is pounding the table. These situations never end well for the ones pounding the table.
21
If these clandestine FBI and DoJ agents have the power to mastermind this conspiracy, wouldn't it simply have been easier for them to change the election results as they happened, easily securing a Clinton victory?
35
On the other hand, would it not have been easier to show a financial crime had been committed and never mind about the Russian stuff. I am sure several crimes have been committed as Trump has never been clean, so why focus on collusion?
1
Oh yes, this fine fellow will surely help our country find peace and tranquility, liberty, freedom, justice, happiness and, most of all, transparency and the rule of law.
I mean, what could possibly go wrong with yet another con man lying through his teeth?
Doe Trump like that he looks the part?
17
By this point it seems clear that our 'President' spends far too much time watching television; and that he has lost the ability to distinguish between fact and 'infotainment.'
Assuming Mr. Trump ever was able to draw such fine distinctions.
If the man is not, in fact, a lunatic, he certainly deserves serious consideration for an Emmy for 'best actor.' His take on an unhinged would-be dictator is incredibly realistic and riveting.
23
I wonder when was the last time DeGenova and his wife had an actual client, rather than raking in the bucks with their tv appearances and other and sundry conspiracies. These people never go away. Maybe Richard Scaife will rise from the dead,
12
Why doesn't the president hire Robert Shapiro, F. Lee Bailey, Barry Scheck and Carl Douglas, or one of them if he's innocent? These attorneys got an acquittal for OJ Simpson, didn't they?
10
When Simpson was tried in a Nevada court he was found guilty and served nine long years. The President can hire whomever he wants. Everyone knows that Mueller is going for the obstruction of justice angle. A waste of taxpayer money as this money could have gone for meals for the homeless or some other worthy purpose.
Maybe the late Johnie Cochran would have taken Trump on as a client. He might have come up with something like, "Trump didn't collude, we have to conclude." ;)
2
@NM -- you are absolutely GREAT, my friend!! Now this comment is definitely worth a NYT Pick!! Right on, dear friend!!
1
Do not care how many attorneys Tump brings on board as long as HE is paying for their legal services. Is HE paying for them? We taxpayers? Republican Party?
17
I thought I saw a report that the Clinton Campaign had paid for the so called "Dossier" that was leaked to the press during the campaign by Obama officials although it's contents were never verified. I also thought I saw a report that it was the basis of a FISA warrant on a Trump campaign official.
I obviously misread everything. What a crackpot theory!
3
Not directly paid for by the Hillary campaign--they hired the firm that hired Steele--and Steele himself gave it to the FBI because he found the facts so horrifying and deeply troubling; I think Steele also leaked it to Buzzfeed, but I may be wrong. The FBI didn't leak it, but a lot of leaking may well have been done by our president over in Moscow...
And the Steele Dossier was NOT the basis for the FISA warrant on Carter Page no matter how many times that lie gets repeated.
2
Bingo. It is about to hit the fan. They never imagined she would lose.
1
Trump is flailing around, trying to find versioms of Roy Cohn. He will not follow any advice. All he knows how to do is counter punch. He shows no understanding of the law. But he has no respect for the rule of law, so this is no surprise. His only concerns are his ego and his base. What a terrible crisis for out coutry. I hope our Costituion survives. Those members of congress who fail to take a stand against this attempt to destroy rule of law will bear the shame forever. :Let us never allow them to forget their cowardice. They are traitors.
17
Well when you have a history of not only stiffing your attorneys on the bill, but of lying to them (your own attorneys!!!) like Trump, you have to take whatever fringe lunatic that's willing to come work for you.
15
ugh - he will make an offer that can't be refused - are you kidding me - you could not make this stuff up - you would be accused of being nuts.
8
Gee, I wonder how many mob bosses and criminals have claimed they were "framed" by the FBI and law enforcement.
51
DJT does all of this to himself. There isn't a need for anyone to "frame" him. Seriously? Only cult45 members believe this type of nonsense.
17
Another day, another distraction. Trump is great at deflecting his own failings - how about the racist (yes, racist) Birther lie that he slanderously perpetuated for years until President Obama voluntarily chose to produce his birth certificate just to shut Trump up.
The list of Trump's subversive failings goes on and on. He is a lying sexist misogynist who is nothing more than a debt-ridden con artist and has absolutely no business attacking others when he has never even disclosed his tax returns. Trump needs to release his tax returns before he has any credibility with the American public.
So let's see your tax returns, Donald, and convince us how truly ethical, honest and above-board you really are!
8
Getting advise from a Fox News person/people.
Heaven help us, our Republic is really in deep troubled waters.
Please vote in November.
7
Murdoch loves Putin as much as Trump. He raised free outdoor adverts for Putin in Russia, but got shot out of there by a more violent competitor. So isn't he as beholding to Putin as Trump is, and both of them are doing Putin's work for him?
1
I smell desperation.
11
Actually, it wasn't the justice department. It was aliens. And they were working with the Easter Bunny. Who shot JFK. And never landed on the moon. TRUE.
9
I've lost count of how many lawyers "No cullusion trump" has hired recently.
9
America, our own Putin has arrived.
9
Ladies, Gentlemen, good Americans, one and all, isn't it time to build the guillotines; how can we stand idly by, day after day, watching this travesty unfold ??
4
His argument is leadership in DOJ, FBI and CIA who are republicans are conspiring against a republican in Trump. Prior to the Trump presidency this would never have been thought much less spoken. But, with Trump everyone is corrupt...except himself.
3
Deep state. Democrats, Republicans, they are all the same. SES.
1
He adored Comey when he brought back up Weiner with a side of Hillary's emails. Trump is only happy if things swing his way.
1
Trump:
Lie, Deflect, Blame, Distort, Lie, Project your guilt onto your enemies, Pay off prostitutes, Lie about it, Pay teams of attorneys to lie about you, Threaten everyone, Denigrate everyone, Lie, Blame, Threaten, Boast, Deflect, make preposterous claims, continue ad infinitum.
42
This is not new news. Millions of people in this country knew about all of these things regarding tRump's behavior for decades and it did not matter. They still voted for him. It's embarrassing to live in this country alongside his supporters.
1
So diGenova is back to muddy the waters.
And according to him there is an FBI plot to take down Trump - but there was no NY FBI office leaks to Rudy Giuliani about a reopening of the Hillary Clinton email investigation in October 2016 to prevent her from becoming President.
Right.
Night is day.
Trump is honest.
21
Believe this conspiracy and I'll tell you another one about a presidential candidate who becomes president but is not a citizen of the US and is a practicing Muslim.
25
Gross and disgusting, “a Kafkaesque journey" indeed. The Russians are so pleased with President Trump. He will do anything to save his own skin.
11
And who put the F.B.I. and the Justice department up to it? Why even ask? For a dedicated conspiracy theorist such as diGenova, the answer is as plain as the nose on your face: why, the Illuminati, of course!
By the way, although we readers of the Old Gray Lady may shake our heads at the transparency of Trump's efforts to discredit Mueller and his team, one only need to spend a few minutes perusing Breitbart, The Daily Caller, InfoWars and the like to see how successful his snow job has been. Should the Mueller investigation result in, say, an indictment of Trump — or even a lesser outcome that still paints him as complicit in shady acts — the outrage among the more gullible and hateful among the alt-right may very well, I'll wager, boil over into violence. Trump is playing a very, very dangerous game.
190
Trump's game, as I have often stated, is to remain President For Life, as many of his fellow dictators have managed. When election time comes, he's prepared to announce its cancellation, due to the amount of serious voter fraud he claims has previously occurred. Hopefully, our military will honor their committment to our constitution, rather than loyalty to our delusional president and remove him from office, bodily if necessary
3
No no, it wasn't the Illuminati, it was Hillary! Or no, wait, Obama! Or no...CNN! Or any of the other people or institutions Trump rails against on a regular basis. The fact that a lawyer would spout conspiracy theories with no basis in fact should give everyone pause.
8
Lawyers who would represent Trump fall into the same category as professionals who would join his administration: bottom-of-the-barrel opportunists. Good luck painting a bully, vulgarian, world-class narcissist and admitted serial liar as a victim.
40
Yup i can hear the misery
I can feel his pain
For four years diGenova served as U.S. attorney for the District, during which time he supervised federal criminal and civil matters involving international drug smuggling, public corruption, espionage, insider trading, tax fraud, extradition, the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, export control, and international terrorism. He worked on the case involving Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard and the TWA Flight 847 hijacking case, and conducted a corruption probe in the D.C. government that led to the conviction of two deputy mayors.
In 1997 diGenova was named special counsel to investigate the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, and, as a result, he now sits on the Independent Review Board that oversees the Teamsters.
When Digenova speaks about the Justice System, the FBI and the DOJ, smart people pay attention.
6
Hello, Mr. diGenova. Welcome to the echo chamber. Have a seat and the president will tell you what he wants you to tell him.
75
It is absolutely critical that Trump derail the Russia Investigation unless he wants himself, Jared, Don Jr, Eric and Ivanka to be executed for multiple acts of treason against the United States during time of war (remember, we are in never ending wars of pseudo-conquest). If he can survive until after the 2018 elections, the Dems will impeach him and eject him from the White House, which could mean there is a chance the Russia Investigation will collapse once he is gone. The Trump Family's best bet at survival is successful impeachment in Jan 2019. Being that Mueller is loyal, life-long Republican, he will probably wait until after Jan 2019 to release POTUS family treason indictments. If Trump is still in office in Feb 2019, expect the treason fireworks to begin on or about Valentine's Day 2019.
10
Everyone knows that too many conspiracy theorists spoil the soup.
16
Trump was framed by his illegal activities.
Clinton was impeached for lying about an extra-marital affair. But, when Trump sleeps with a hooker for months, right after his third wife gives birth, pays her $130,000 to cover it up, and then threatens a $20,000,000 lawsuit when she tries to speak, the GOP, the right-wing, Fox News and the Evangelicals either applaud, shrug, or sweep it under the carpet.
For Trump and the GOP "morality" is whatever pays the most at any given time.
439
I just don't understand how Stormy can be threatened fines for talking about something that thump says never happened.
10
The Christian Right has shown us they are certainly right wingers and certainly not Christians.
3
The GOP enjoys the goodie bags they get when Trump is in office.
1
He really does not act like an innocent man. In corporate America, you can bully your way through things even when those things are illegal and/or unethical. Politics is a different beast. His arrogance with be his undoing just as it is for all of us who live arrogantly.
10
Unbelievable. If Trump is found guilty and a civil war results as the result of this nonsense, then Fox News will be held accountable when the fighting is over. It will an an American Nuremberg.
14
Actually, KK, reading the new Ulysses S. Grant biography and wondering how we shall fare in the next couple of years.
What we have in America is a large group who wants to destroy the federal government.
It's been brewing for decades, and it's pretty much the same crew at work. Donald Trump has, with help from Russian hackers and GOP partisans, gathered them all under his treasonous umbrella of xenophobia, science scoffing, and general unreason.
May Mr. diGenova's briefs get to the bottom of this as fast as Stormy got to DJ Trump's bottom and briefs.
13
who is paying the fees for this lawyer?
14
Hmmmm. Whom to believe? The life-long Republican special counsel who has served his country honorably in peace and in war or the liar in the White House and his odious enablers in Congress and on FOX news? It's a tough call, but I'm going with option A.
251
It's a mockery of a travesty of a sham.
15
This unnatural war footing we're on, first adopted, perfected and relentlessly applied by the Democrats has to be recognized for what it is...a tacit, but clear, admission of guilt. Everything is on the line for them. For eight years, 0 let them all run wild, and get rich, with do anything-policymaking touching on every aspect of life. They all took advantage. Don't you see? They all in their own bailiwick ran riot. The Intel guys used the deepest darkest realms of the deep state to rig elections, destroy evidence, feign investigations, alter evidence, abuse FISA authority, spy on Republicans, leak baseless allegations, draft fake findings in fake documents, all in an attempted coup to take over the government of the United States of America.
1
Did they turn off the air in Kittery Point, ME recently? Or do they only broadcast Alex Jones there?
2
Deep state
Ah another clear independent thinker
NOT
2
Really? Try looking at the Federalist Society before you start this limp and unsubstantiated "plot" line - no pun intended - based on alleged Democrats actions under the Obama administration. But most likely, this will not happen. A legit media outside of this bubble - even conservative media - have accepted corroborated evidence that the Trump organization and campaign conspired - not merely colluded - with Russian intelligence and their controlled oligarchs - to sway the US election to him, disrupt voting, and interfere not just with elections but with US governance post election. while allowing Trump to enrich himself and his family through this utterly corrupt scheme because the chaos he creates gives them perfect cover for their conservative agenda to be implemented. This is not a conspiracy - it is a careful plan created and launched by the Federalist Society more than 30 years ago to take over the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of government at Federal and State levels. Trump is their foil, tool and muse. Really, check it out. An informed "opinionator" might actually help true conservatives to wake up, and join all patriots to save the country they profess to love and protect.
1
Trump can stall all he wants, throw up obstacles to justice, but soon the hammer is going to come down and shatter his glass house of lies and deceit! It's truly unbelievable that we have a POTUS of his ilk in the WH. How in the world is anything being done in the service of this country when Trump's sole focus is to squirm out of an inevitable indictment and impeachment.
17
DeGenova and Toensing are just partisans who are bulldogs on Fox News. They are not respected by serious members of the legal community, Republicans included. Perfect for Trump.
17
Why not hire The Enquirer instead? After all, they're more believable...
17
Resist Mueller!
Out with unelected bureaucrats and their bought media ruining our democratic republic. It's a complete joke and farce.
2
What are these guys afraid of?
If Trump is not guilty, then Lee Harvey Oswald didn't kill JFK in Dallas on November 22, 1963. Everything Trump is now doing is casting further doubts concerning his innocence. For far too long the pundit class, and White House reporters, accepted the conventional wisdom that Trump sees the Muelller probe as tarnishing his election vicyory. But could there be another explanation? One that more closely reflects reality, that Trump was aided and abetted by the Russians in 2016? By the hire of this hack, who cut his teeth going after Bill Clinton, will he asked to replicate the same strategy now, with the same results . Nothing is going to save Trump, except if goes full tyrannical and suspends the rule of law and arrest all his opponents. Something he obviously would like to do as evidenced by his recent tweet storm over the weekend.
8
I have been expecting Trump to go full-on tyrant for a year now. To everyone who is waiting for November's election, you can't afford to wait. Expect Trump to trump up something that will give him a beard for suspending elections - and quite likely imposing martial law - in the name of national security or some other excuse. I hope I am wrong, but fear that I'm not.
2
Very true. I fear that he might do something very stupid that will further divide our country. I kept telling people before the 2016 election that Trump is a clear and present danger to our country. I never agreed with any of the Bushes, but Trump is in a class of his own.
I, too, have long been predicting Trump's own Reichstag Fire and subsequent suspension of individual right, due process, and elections.
