NUTS 'BOUT NATURE
Got no quarrel
With no squirrel

Crazy feral.

Such a fine inspirational feature story; sometimes it feels like (except for what must be the lousy working hours) doing what you guys do with this column, the stories you guys can choose to bring us daily, may be so gratifying to newspeople! But then - so much tempting head-shaking controversy “In the News” today – I’ll try my best to be safe and stick to the weather.
“Mediocre in the morning and misty in the afternoon, with a high near 56 and a rainy evening ahead.”
“Mediocre in the Morning”
Tune of “Carolina in the Morning”
This confirms Al Roker, yes the weather’s mediocre - in the morning.
Afternoon is misting, then some rain is in the listing, see the warning.
What may be surprisin’
Is that’s not the worst.
Flurries on the horizon,
Though it is now March 1st
Don’t get dressed too sporty, Friday may feel more like forty, when it’s dawning.
Keep your winter jacket, now is not the time to pack it – hey, stop yawning!
They call talk of climate change a tired cliché.
I find that strange, but plan day by day:
The evening is a soaker, but it’s dry and mediocre in the morning.

Oh the forecast may be dreary
But Freddie’s verse is always cheery
And since we need more fun time
May he rhyme, may he rhyme, may he rhyme.
Thanks for another gem Freddie. Glad the hamantaschen were delicious.

Allen, love that - it's like Christmas at Purim! Since I got this link after yesterday closed off, jeanne had asked, so here's the recipe (Jewish Week site) that turned out so great:

Art therapy is fine. It can take people minds off their diseases. No doubt it could do the same for someone with cancer as it does for someone with PTSD.
However, to insinuate in any way that it is part of a cure for PTSD is as ridiculous as saying it's part of a cure for cancer and adds to the public perception that PTSD and other mental disorders aren't "real" diseases but simply someone not having the proper outlook on life.

Note the sentence that reads, in part: "It can also serve as a form of therapy, contestants said, helping veterans cope..." There's no indication of "a cure" there. I thought it was quite obvious that they weren't "cured", but that art helped them forget for a while and eased the pain.

O.K. New Yorkers. It's time to get some serious healing done on (D-Brooklyn) Simcha Felder, so he gets the right spirit to leave the Republican pack and vote for better Gun Control laws.
So burn those candles. Write those emails. Make those calls. And spread some Holi powder around.
Power to the People!

Felder, as usual, sided with the Republicans. He is a Democrat in name only as are the rest of the “Independent Democrats “ who constantly vote with the Republicans making them the majority .
I am willing to bet that most New Yorkers are unaware that the Democrats they voted into office almost always caucus with the Republican agenda. This was a rare instance when all but Felder sided with the Democrats as they were elected to represent.

NYC Public Schools is hiring someone who appears to be a great new Chancellor. As public school mom, I’m excited and think he’ll be terrific. But the salary discrepancy between him and our outgoing (and equally credentialed) Chancellor, Carmen Farina, and the obvious gender difference, is troubling. Mr. Carvalho earns a yearly salary of $352,874 in Miami compared to Ms. Fariña’s $234,569. Mr. Phillips said Mr. Carvalho will be paid $353,000, to match his Miami salary. What’s up with that?

I think this is more about talent recruitment than gender. I’d imagine the Dept. of Ed. would want to match the salary of an equally desirable female for the job. It would be a mistake to say that a new recruit should make no more than their predecessor if that person was more female or ‘of color’ than their replacement. I would bet that if the Dept. of Ed. had found a black immigrant female with the same record and credentials as Mr. Carvalho they would match her salary as well.

A new chancellor for NYC who advocates for charter schools hired by a Mayor who spoke against it, who now supports the idea in order to gain mayoral control of the schools. Remind me, didn't the UFT support you? So much for supporting public education and its teachers.

I have been doing needlework (embroidery and needlepoint) for 50 years. Can someone please tell me what Egyptian needlepoint is? I can’t find an explanation on the net... but I can buy lots of Egyptian needlepoint kits!

Alexandra, thank you for your beautiful opening story about those brave veterans who found a way to heal through creating art. May their stories help others find peace through creative endeavors.
