Elisa Esposito in 'The Shape of Water'. Age: 40-ish.
It's not important to me whether you are chatty or not, because I have such a rich inner life. I only need to know that you do, too.
Culinary tastes are simple, like eggs, and it's good if you're also into old-timey jazz and old movies.
Did I mention that wet is the code word that draws me in? And I'm not talking about myself - it's you who I want to be wet - all over all the time.
My sensitive mind draws you in when we become... well, intimate.
Hope that you can get me out of this drudgery job I'm stuck in, and into a river of shared joy.
Are we really not including the masterful run Alan Moore had on the "Saga of the Swamp Thing" from the mid 80's? Abagail and Swamp Thing had as complex and well....believable relationship as any in the monster human genre. A classic in horror, fantasy comics.
My story is only about romances in movies, but your point is well-taken. Thanks!
It's not just that these sorts of transgressive transpecies clearly popular monster "romances" always feature an attractive female and a "monster" male this trope also has a long history in Western advertising - particularly in beer commercials and the like. Dogs, chimpanzees, and bears are seen cavorting, driving dune buggies over beaches etc... all while enjoying the attentions of bikini clad and or other suggestive beauties. Just reverse those genders and plotlines and process how that would go over. It does appear these tropes are part of a powerful attempt to say inner beauty (and to be honest power and strength) are what is important for a man as potential partner while women need to be attractive and feminine on the outside even when you're dating transspecies. I'm with young Bailey Gismert, "weird".

Turn on the nightly news if you want to see monsters.
(btw, I do not turn on the nightly...)

“My culinary tastes are simple: Cook me a big batch of hard-boiled eggs, and I’m good for breakfast, lunch and dinner.”
However, if you are a “cat-person” perhaps I might not be the guy for you.

This article is such a missed opportunity. "The Shape of Water" perpetuates tired and sexist male fantasies. From "Frankenstein" to "King Kong," the films included here reinforce the notion that, while men deserve to be judged by their character, women continue to be evaluated by their appearance. All with an undercurrent of bestiality. Hollywood, I'm over it.

The creature is not the monster. The real monster are the Agent that captures the creature and the General. I said that in the Movies opening.

This is the lady of my fancy. Resourceful, determined, and vengeful.
she has taken up the feud
because of last night, when you killed Grendel,
wrestled and racked him in ruinous combat
since for too long he had terrorized us
with his depredations He died in battle,
paid with his life; and now this powerful
other one arrives, this force for evil
driven to avenge her kinsman's death.
Or so it seems to thanes in their grief,
in the anguish every thane endures
at the loss of a ring-giver, now that the hand
that bestowed so richly has been stilled in death.

Romantic monsters are male. Bad monsters are female.

Male monsters good. Female monsters bad.

To point out the obvious: all of these monsters are males going after beautiful women. Hollywood doesn’t change.

BTW I DID like the article. I needed a laugh.

I'd have to go with Frankenstein's monster. Any guy who can make women cry "woof" after an amatory episode is the guy for me. Besides-those extra nuts and bolts can always come in handy for do-it-yourself projects.

I finally understand the meaning of bestiality.

Why are all monsters male?
Discuss with reference to unknown authoress of Beowulf, Aphra Behn,
Mary Wollstonecraft, Virginia Woolf and Simone de Beauvoir. If you wish you may cite Greer. Do not include Dworkin.

Oh for heavens sake: mermaids, sirens, harpies, the sphinx, witches, wilies, every "evil stepmother" of fairy tales, Grendel's mother..... And aside from Grendel's mom, these are just ones from the Western European canon with human-like attributes.
Also, why must we call these entities "monsters"? It's the 21st century folks: how about "differently natured sentient beings" or "DNSB" for short.
