Thanks for this, and thanks to the Times for printing it! Your gentle, completely non-political humor gave me, and likely many thousands of readers, a big smile. That is a precious thing in an age of so much anger, arguing and resentment.

As a native Manhattanite, I know all about having all the answers to everything. It's what we do best.

I love this story! A bus load of New Yorkers connecting in their collective inability to decide what to do with this lovely leather jacket.

Allen: I wonder if the Claude Rains movie was “The Invisible Man.” Does anyone know?

(Freddie, with his encyclopedic knowledge of songs, movies, and theater, might know.)
Freddie (New York NY)
I’m not sure about the Claude Rains film, but I do have a favorite classic “Invisible Man” goes to an audition joke:

Casting Person: “The invisible man is here for his dance audition.”

Choreographer: “Tell him we can’t see him.”

P.S. to Adele - Such a beautiful New York story! One of those where I really wish I'd been there living it with all of you.

Hi Dean - Yep, it was “The Invisible Man” that I was thinking of. Always enjoy your Metropolitan Diary comments.

Another example of how leather brings people together...

Perhaps if people are aware of how leather clothes are made, they would get together, do the humane thing and stop wearing it, and lobby against its manufacturing.

That's right; it's bad enough that people are wearing cows, they may be even be wearing cat or dog.

I like to think Claude Rains put that black leather jacket on the seat and was having a wonderful time watching and listening to everyone on the bus. Fans of old movies among the Met Diary readership? Someone please get the reference!
Anne (Rome, Italy)
I get it! "The Invisible Man"! Claude Rains was a great actor. And one cannot get much better than "Casablanca" and "Notorious".
Lazarus Long (Flushing NY)
I'm a huge fan of old movies, especially from the 1930s.I don't get the reference.Which movie? You have me stumped.
Howard Taylor (Winston-Salem, NC)
Ah, yes, The Invisible Man.
