GIFs are revolutionary when it comes to communication over any form of electronic messaging. It's breaking the mold of our lack of emotion in the modern conversation. No, it'll never be as intimate as face-to-face or even voice-to-voice, but it allows our brains to pick up on signals like we would an in-person conversation. At times when I don't feel comfortable texting my unending sarcasm, it can be pretty annoying to not express myself as I would in person. Yet, with the use of a simple GIF, the receiving end of my messages gets a much more clear idea of my satire versus being confused and possibly even hurt.

I think that GIFs can be used in almost any circumstance. If your mood is happy, sad, excited, hungry, mad, or annoyed, there is almost certainly a GIF to describe what you´re feeling!

I use GIFs and emojis to express myself online as I would do in real life. if I'm talking to someone and they say something good and I'm happy for them i would probably use a nice happy emoji or if something is funny i would use the laughing emoji. I use emojis to personalize my messages and I think people who normally don't should give it a try

Personally I use GIFs or emojis as a way to convey my facial expression or how I was feeling when I receive a text message. There is such a variety of them that a large sum of them can mean the same thing, but be different for other countries. It seems as if the GIFs used for these five countries shows what is most commonly showed in the specific country. Now I can't speak for these countries, but the GIFs appear to represent those cultures.

In different situations, I will use either a gif or an emoji. I use these at times where I'm joking with my friend, or I'll if I'm trying to lighten the mood. I think that they are a commonly used thing in society today because they can help display emotions that you can't always say in words. I think that the gifs shown in the article can show the culture's emotions, as well as how they feel. Culture's can show how they feel through an iconic or favorite gif, which shows how they might be obsessed with one specific one.

I, personally, use emoticons, kaomojis, gifs, and images on the daily in my digital conversations, whether it be in a group chat, or just with one friend/family member. I believe that despite how silly it may sound, these various things can help relay a message better - or, lighten the mood. Emoticons and gifs and memes and such are used for a variety of things, as the related article states - to express sadness, happiness, laughter, or really any type of mood. These things, for me, can also amplify a scenario, and make things funnier, or lighten the mood. The gifs shown here and in the related article can show quite a lot about the countries and their cultures/feelings. How the whole of the country feels, what the most popular emotion displayed is via emoticons/gifs, etc. They could really be a source of decent survey, if they wanted to be used for such.

I know they say "a picture is worth a thousand words", but I really don't think this applies here. Yes, GIFs can be fun, interesting, relatable, and a great way for old corporate CEO's to try to market their products to "the hip youth", but I personally find that they're not as engaging as actually using words. I mean, I have nothing against the ancient Egyptians and their hieroglyphs, but I'd rather have a conversation with someone that's not riddled with cryptic images from some sit-com I don't care about. For one thing, it's hard to respond to, and for another it just seems plain lazy. I think the belief that the knowledge of the most used GIFs worldwide gives us any insight to anything is just ridiculous and honestly it sounds borderline ignorant. It's such a trivial thing to analyze that it's like a bad joke when you say "people of Italy express their anger through this GIF of Wario". If you genuinely think that you can draw any conclusion on the diverse peoples of an entire nation from what moving picture is popular where they live, you're pretty simple minded. The first mistake you made was asking what this says about culture rather than POP culture (and man is there a difference). Pop culture is riddled with diffusion, which is why you see GIFs from American or Japanese media popularly used in Italy or Brazil. As for the actual cultures of Italy, Brazil, and India? I haven't learned a thing from these globally popular images that are just as prominent in America.

Emojis and GIFs are used for many occasions in society today. In my personal experience, I use emojis the most often. I use them in cases where the message I am sending could come off in a way that is not the intended tone. I don't want my friend to think that I am saying something in a literal way, I might add an emoji to lighten the mood and make it a funny, not personal message. These little characters say what I mean when I am trying to send a message. My preferences, as it would come across, would be that I use the laughing face a lot to tell jokes and make people laugh, or to tell them that I am laughing at what they said.

To my knowledge, GIFs are short video clips or image formats that convey a great deal. Although I am not fluent in the language of social media (I'm a 21st-century kid, mind you), I do understand the value that people put in these platforms. The quote "A picture is worth a thousand words" is expanded on with GIFs. Emotional moods can randomly attack anyone, and sometimes the only way to express ourselves is through pictures. With the help of the expansive and accessible internet, almost all emotions can be described with GIFs. As shown in the GIFs about different cultures, various cultures represent themselves differently. I may be a bit far-fetched in saying this, but the diversity in GIFs allow for people to broaden their horizons with respect to cultural differences. It creates awareness and understanding, with the baseline being a common platform known as GIFs.

Many feel that GIFs, emojis, images and their usage in texting, has lead to the oversimplification of conversation and language. However, I think it does just the opposite. Images provide teenagers with an alternative way to express themselves, when words simply aren't effective or expedient enough. I, for one find myself favoring GIFs and emojis, when the connotation of these images is much stronger then the words I could use to describe whatever I'm talking about. Over text, the absence of facial expressions and gestures is something that definitely takes from the quality of conversations. The ease that GIFs, emojis, and images give us to convey our emotions means that technology can make our text conversations something unexpected, human.

Most teenagers use the GIFs and emojis as a way to describe how we are feeling, what we're thinking, and what we are doing. By using these, we are preventing our friends from thinking we are meaning our words other than what we actually are. People mainly use them to show emotion and without someone texting me using them, I would think that somethings wrong with them or that they are mad at something.

It’s easier to tell others what you need and want from them than to have them tell you what they need and want from you.

Gifs are a new culture to the social media world. They are the perfect way to express how you feel, what you're thinking or what you're doing. By using gifs and emojis we can show exactly how we feel without misleading the other through words. Our words often get interpreted or altered in ways we didn't even mean them to sound. Therefore, gifs are a great way to show how we feel!

Gifs are the perfect way to express how you feel when you can’t find the words to do so. People do say “a picture is worth a thousand words” for a reason. If you want to passive-agressively show someone you are upset with them, send a gif. If you want to show your appreciation for someone but are too awkward to put it into words, send a gif. Gifs are used all over the world because they can express universal feelings in ways that words can’t always do. Happiness, love, sadness, and anger are all emotions popularly represented by gifs in many different countries. This is because despite being universal feelings, they are much easier to express through facial expressions or actions. But, it’s 2018, hardly any communication is face-to-face anymore, gifs bring the element of expression that cannot be expressed through text.

I use emoji when I am shocked, excited, or sad about something. By using emojis, it helps the person was is reading it understand how you feel about the situation. By using emoji it expresses if I am kind, mean, or judgmental. It expresses this because it shows what a feel about the topic being talked about.
