No photo of Jonathan Demme?

Jazz musicians continue to be the step-children in their own country.

Also really disappointing that they left off Malcolm Young of AC/DC. A pioneer and legend and more worthy of inclusion than some who are on the list who’ve barely done a fraction of the thins he’s done.

Where is Gregg Allman?? He and his brother Duane paved the way for "Southern Rock" for 5 decades. He was also an accomplished solo artist who won a Grammy and the Allman Brothers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

nicely done.
I liked some of these people. Some, like Dick Gregory, actually did something beyond entertainment. However, it is sad , indeed, that in America almost ALL the people we "lost" are entertainers. Almost no one in this group did anything other than entertain us. America in the age of Trump is a society almost totally lacking in any intellectual component. We consume and excrete...and that's about it.

Beautiful,
Beautifully done.
We were so lucky, so blessed to have had them all.
What wonderful worlds they each created.

Arts exist beyond film, stage, page, and canvas. I am disappointed that Azzedine Aläia is not on this list of artists we lost in 2017. If any contemporary couturier deserved to be called an artist, it was he...and he certainly had choice words of wisdom to share.

Exactly. Very short sighted list.

Why is there no photo of Jonathan Demme? His infectious smile would be a welcome sight.

As a 65-year old unrepentant rock n roll reprobate (how's THAT for alliteration), the loss of Chuck Berry and Fats Domino in the same year is devastating.
And, while I enjoyed his work with the Heartbreakers and Wilburys, I was never a great fan of Tom Petty's. But, I listened with a huge grin on my face, when, interviewed on the PBS series "Soundbreaking," he said - and I paraphrase - "Every generation thinks that it has produced the greatest music ever. The only difference is...we're right."
No one could have said it better....or been more correct.

No doubt the best and most endearing music came out of the 60's and 70's.....thankfully I experienced it all.
