As an online subscriber, how do I access the Puzzle Mania puzzles?
Jay (NYC)
The Spiral is great, and at least you didn't print it straddling two separate sheets of paper, like you did with the Mega Crossword. (What were you thinking with that? What a pain it was to complete the crossword when the pages kept moving around, despite my attempt to tape the top and bottom together! Why didn't you print the big grid in the centerfold, like last year?)

For the record, the spiral puzzle in the Year of Puzzles is 230 spaces. It was created by Parker Lewis and edited by me. It's presented as a double spiral for aesthetic reasons, but it's equivalent. I don't know that that's a record either, but I don't know of one larger.

Word Doodle 4c. answer is "Magic spell." Huh??? We get C O L D.
Jay (NYC)
COLD SPELL, more likely.

Ah yes, thank you Jay!
Karen (Santa Fe, NM)
I say COLD spell also: C O L D. Whence cometh MAGIC?

I enjoyed doing jumbo spiral puzzle yesterday. I would never have the patience to make one on my own, though!

P.S., I enjoyed Will Shortz's description of how he constructs a spiral puzzle.

Add me to the list of sad people who didn't get a hard copy today and thus will miss this puzzle bonanza. NYT, can you somehow make them available? I LOVE the end-of-year puzzles, but it came sooner than I realized. Do I have to wait another whole year? WAAAAA!

I think Will Shortz is mean! He has a brilliant smile in photos, but that's a cover-up. It's really a smirk! I don't know how he has the nerve to show his face after some of the puzzles he edits! Now he comes up with a spiral that just about covers a full page, and he even admits that he puts in a few tricks here and there. New editor, anyone?

We enjoyed many days of fun with these puzzles last year. Many thanks to Will Shortz and his team. If this section is not available online, maybe it should give a heads up on first page of this section go avoid frustration (but I think it's better done with paper)
Robert Wemischner (Los Angeles)
I would print it out anyhow.....unfair that it's not available online to puzzle subscribers.

Wow! Am a NYT crossword puzzle nut and today's 12-page bonanza will be a thrill to tackle, But oh, my son beckons, "Dad, you still have some Christmas shopping to do, remember?" Oh my, am I in a jam.
Landon (Mongolia)
Is there any way to access these bonus puzzles online? It's times like this that I really miss my print edition.

What can we digital subscribers do to get the puzzles? And why only paper subscribers? I don’t live anywhere near a place to buy a newspaper. That’s why I have a digital only subscription.
Bernice Levy (NYC)
Why has the diagramless puzzle been eliminated? I used to search the end pages of the magazine for its infrequent appearance which now seems reduced to never.
