Melissa McCarthy as Sean Spicer on SNL.
The bias against Dunaway and in favor of Beatty here and many other places baffles me to no end. Beatty knew that the card was wrong from the moment he read it (he even checked the envelope's label, so he verified himself that it was wrong), then put Dunaway on the spot and under pressure by drawing out the moment beyond her own ability to understand what he was up to in front of a live audience of millions. I have more sympathy for Dunaway, who had a lot to lose that night, given her reputation, which may or may not be deserved. What isn't deserved is her continued mistreatment for the mistakes of men--one accountant, and one actor--and she's not the only woman so mistreated this year.

“Little Marco.”
Mikaela Shiffrin - how her amazing results and determination did not make the list is hard to understand.
end zone celebrations, really? if these guys want respect, how about growing up and acting professional. I know, I know, it's a race thing.
Sorry Wesley:this piece is too scattered. No focus.

Huh? The focus is on great performances ... regardless of the source.

What are the boundaries around "performance"? Surely D. Trump lording over HR Clinton was a serious piece of performance art. Wall Street had a great "performance" as well. Banging together theatre, sports, tv, and making a list called "best performances of 2017" without a nod to music, politics, engineering, medicine etc seems bizarre. Some of these performances are live, some televised, some audio recordings -- it's a great jumble of a mess.

Amanda Peet in Togetherness - I knew this woman's entire life from one scene: the blind date. And how about Netflix' I Don't Feel at Home in this World Anymore? Melanie Lynskey is great in everything she does (including her sad pole dance in Away From Here) and Elijah Wood is both creepy and endearing at the same time. And let's not forget Kevin who almost stole the movie! But the finest performance of 2017 was Meryl Steep at the Globes.
Correction: It's "Duck Duck Grey Duck" in Minnesota, whence hail the Vikings.

THANK YOU. I can’t tell you how many times I have pointed this out (usually to no avail).

That Venus Williams celebration was the dance that launched a thousand GIFs. Apart from being overjoyed with the results of that semifinal match, my next thought was that this would likely bring a smile to Fatimah Robinson's face.
Venus is truly a gift.

Great to see Vee getting her due. I so wanted big sis to win her eighth major this year at the ripe old age of 36 this past year. Though Venus did not manage to triumph in either of the major finals she played in this year (in Australia against her pregnant sister or at Wimbledon against a dominant Garbine Mugurza), she competed with so much heart and grit. Let’s not forget her run to the semis at the U.S. Open that ended in an amazing match against Sloane Stephens, one of the best matches of the tournament.
As a longtime fan of VW, I never know what I’m going to see. Her energy, due to Sjogren’s Syndrome, can be flat just days after astounding performances. Nonetheless, my appreciation of and love for this great champion doesn’t waver. The understated Williams sister epitomizes grace and good sportsmanship, while showing us more in this last year that she still wants to be in the conversation and at the top of the game at 37. She finished 2017 as number five in the world. Venus has so much heart and class. This year that was awful in so many ways. A big thanks to Wesley Morris for including VW in this roundup. Vamos, Venus!
