I heard him speak and show his photos when he was at Microsoft's Redmond campus. It was a humbling experience, reminding us how far we have fallen. As part of Sousa's talk, he also showed the picture of the current White House occupant included in the Intimate Portrait book; it's too bad that this article didn't print that photo as well. People who own the book understand what I mean. The lineup for book purchases and signatures after the talk was amazing too.

Go buy this book. The back cover photo alone is worth the price. It is a very wonderful, moving, refreshing book.

I needed somewhere to share this sentiment. Looking at this photos I'm struck by the sense of love and human connection. Donald Trump on a good day never projects this. Much has been made about how he never laughs, but now I don't think he ever loves. I mean this in a sad way. It must be terrible to be Donald Trump.

Fortunate to see Souza in Brooklyn this week, I felt a part of a love-in of a bygone era. The intimacy of Souza’s photos provides unequivocal proof of President Obama’s authenticity: whether the former president was caught by Souza ‘s camera horsing around with his daughters, admiring his wife or mourning with the survivors of too may mass shootings, Souza’s photography captures the sharp contrast between President Obama and his successor. It is unlikely that a coffee table book of the current President’s term in office will be a runaway success like Souza ‘s is. The camera doesn’t lie: there is little that is real and true about this president.

Not appropriate;those photos were taken while he was on the public payroll. They belong to us, not him. And he's using them to promote not only his book but his personal agenda. He should be giving if not a portion but maybe all of the profit to the Treasury

I'd like to know Pete Souza's filing system for his lifetime of photographs. Also how and where he has his digital images backed up to preserve for posterity.

Knew this was coming! Souza, besides being a fine photographer, carefully cultivated his brand, during the Obama years! I recall articles about him in the Times, and appearances on 60 minutes and the like, during our fine 44th’s tenure! Good for him...

Thank you for those gorgeous photos, they do my heart and eyes so much good! We may never have again such a beautiful human as President again.

Correction- Mr. Trump has not yet skipped the Kennedy Center Honors, he has only announced that he will not attend. The Kennedy Center Honors will take place on December 3, 2017 in Washington.

When will the hagiography and idolization of the Presidency stop ? It's not just Mr. Obama, who is legendary for his self-regard and the puppy-dog fealty of the media towards him, but every President. Why exactly do they get their own libraries, and lifetime Secret Service protection ? Please stop the hero-worship !

Even the new administration’s photography has degraded to pedestrian grip and grin shots. The current White House occupants have no concept of photojournalism, much less finding a photographer who can hold a strobe light to Souza.

This is a stunning book! After JFK, Obama is our most photogenic president and the photos of him with his family are classic. My favorite is Obama with Spiderman. Delightful way to remember this great man.

In this age of i-cameras, it is wonderful to see the difference a career photographer has over the rest of us. That being said, it is clear by his pictures that Mr. Sousa brought his profound sense of compassion to his work. They just make you feel good. Oh yeah, his subject was one of the most compassionate, and brilliant leaders of our time.
