The Diversity Visa should be discontinued. Not because of the attack in NYC, because it makes absolutely no sense. It's as if Dems have lost their minds. The agenda for social re-engineering must stop now. To invite people via lottery just because their culture or ethnicity isn't as represented as 'some' would like is utter nonsense. No one should seek to come to the US unless they plan to assimilate and become American. Those seeking 'diversity' speak out of both sides of their face. On the one hand, they want neighborhoods across the board to have a mix of people of 'color.' On the other hand, the 'diverse' group doesn't want to live with people not like themselves - the reason this part of NY has so many from Uzbekistan. I frankly don't blame them - it is comforting to live among people that have similar interests and beliefs. And the diversity crowd seems to support this - it's okay for minorities to establish their own communities, but NOT okay for 'white' people. PS I do not blame those from Uzbekistan for the actions of this nut job. And I do not blame the US for his inability to assimilate or even co-exist with non-Muslims. But, that doesn't justify the 'diversity' visa which just encourages more isolated, homogeneous neighborhoods in the US. The US isn't become multi-cultural as a result, it is becoming a series of cultural islands. How is that diverse?

The unwanted attention seems to be the investigation into terrorist acts. This enclave is not and should not be exempt from examination. There's no evidence that the community at large is antagonizing the Uzbek lottery winners.

I believe that questioning members of a family when one of their own commits an act of atrocity is good investigative police work. Questioning the sister-in-law seems entirely appropriate. Why would Ramzi Kassem take issue with this? And the assertion that the attacker's views developed as a result of loneliness is strange. He married into the Uzbek community and had three children!

Most Uzbeks in Brighton Beach, my neighborhood, do not wear hijabs. I find the selection of photographs for this piece biased and disturbing.

It is deeply unfair that when a terror attack or incident occurs, an entire community is blamed for the actions of one person. These people are looking for a better life and a happy future, yet we seek to turn them away. This alienation divides us and makes us unable to connect and understand each other.

Instead of shaking their heads, why didn't the congregants that Saipov has been praying with in the same Mosque for three years, report his suspicious behavior? The number one cause of Islamophobia is the lack of organized effort by Muslims to join the fight to proactively prevent Islamic terrorism. Sitting idly by is a form of support for the terrorist activities. How can we not resent this in the strongest possible terms? Until that happens, Islamophobia will and should intensify with every new attack. Another cause is their refusal to assimilate. Historically, immigrants came to this country for liberties and freedoms that allowed them to escape the tyranny and oppression in their native country. By refusing to assimilate and invest all their energies into establishing satellite neighborhoods of Iran, Yemen and other terrorist countries, they are proving that they are actually different from us and have different motivates for being here. Many won't admit this but most have to agree, even those that want to establish sanctuary cities and states, knowing they are endanger themselves. Its amazing how many are so obsessed with hatred for Trump that they would rather impede his efforts than see his goals of protecting Americans from terrorism be successful!!

Finally someone said it.

There should be similar expectations for reporting white mass shooters, in my opinion. Until that happens, people may well think that all whites are somehow involved or provide some sort of tacit support.

Veritas - you have your facts wrong. Islamic groups have been the key instrument in helping the FBI thwart terrorist attacks. Their assistance has been vital in stopping terrorism. Islamaphobia is thinly disguised racism and it discourages cooperation from the very people who can help. It also suppresses assimilation. Every immigrant group the comes to America takes time to assimilate usually a generation or 2. the moslim immigrants are the same . Talk to a 2nd generation Syrian or Egyptian in his perfect English and you will see.
