I've seen Tom Steyer's ads run on MSNBC and find them no less annoying as any other they run. Such self-indulgence gives all billionaires everywhere a bad name.

Losses Joe Ricketts can take, but his employees talking back via a union? He's outta there.

Hi Mr. McPhate, It's with sadness that you are leaving this favorite section of my daily reading. Will miss reading your report here. I especially enjoyed reading an article you wrote about the Modesto community story: the mystery almond tree. It was poignant and so well written.Thank you! Good luck to your next endeavor!

I've thoroughly enjoyed this column for it's wide ranging survey of the stories that make California such a vibrant state. Fortunately, I can follow Mike McPhate's latest endeavor at the goldenstater.com.

Thank you for your efforts and skills wrangling such a complex subject. I have enjoyed California Today from the very beginning and have been especially impressed by your regular inclusion of stories from so many typically underrepresented facets of our state. Good luck in your next endeavor.

My wife and I will miss your news. They were always well selected and a pleasure to read, the first thing to read in The New York Times with our morning coffee. We wish you success in your new endeavors!

Thank you Mike and Julie. Not sure which part of the morning news I'll use to try to replace your fine column, but whatever it is, it will come up short. Best wishes in future endeavors, and I will watch for your good journalism with anticipation.

Mike, thank you for helping launch and establish California Today. For NYT readers on the west coast it's been a very meaningful enhancement to our favorite newspaper.
Brad (San Diego County, California)
Mr. McPhate, I appreciate your past efforts in the California Today column and hope you have success in your new position. As you did not mention where you are going (probably a NYT rule on departing employees) a search on your name will hopefully reveal where you will be writing in the future.
larrys (nyc)

this ricketts guy bought these after getting his guy trump elected. the easiest way to shut out the opposition is to buy them. that is what has happened here. censorship by dollars.

While I would dearly love to see Mr.Trump removed from the presidency the thought of Mike Pence replacing him is even scarier than Trump himself.Even if both Trump and Pence were both removed we would be left with Paul Ryan as president.Rebuild a progressive Democratic Party(currently the Democrats are beholden to big money and also need to be replaced.) and hope for a successful outcome in the 2018 elections.
