I thought the women's march which really was an everybody march after the inauguration of the orange clown was a great moment of unity.
ECLIPSE?...What eclipse??? The sky dimmed a bit, but that was mainly due to cloud cover. I ended up having to see it it online.
Talk about a 'New York minute' -- we wuz robbed!!!!

You do not mention 9/11. That tragic and horrific event unified the city and the country as everyone did what they could to help and to comfort each other.
"May 1, 2079. A bit further off, the next total solar eclipse in the city."
We all know that our days have a number, but it's still sad to realize that we will never live to see a total eclipse in NYC.
But there must be worldwide eclipse trips!

There are several web sites to see where eclipses are to fall. But don't despair, the next total eclipse in the U.S. is only 7 years away, April 8, 2024. And it will be total in western NY. Buffalo is virtually on the center of the band of totality (3 min, 46 sec of totality). If I were a travel agency, I would start now building trips from NYC.

Lifelong Reader - That's a wonderful parody thought!
Tune of Total Eclipse of the, well, you know
Once upon a time I loved life in New York
Now a lot of traveling starts.
It’s not for sixty years, no total eclipse in these parts
Once upon a time I thought I'd seen it all
Now our sad mortality smarts.
I don't have sixty years, no total eclipse in these parts.

“It was one of those rare moments that brought the city together.”
Tune of “One” (One Singular Sensation)
One – citywide sensation
Just a moment, then it’s done
One – thrilling celebration
When the moon hid the sun
One New York City with only one single thought
To band together and use the cool shades we brought
One – happy New York moment
Did it live up to the buzz?
Let's remember that it was
Such fun - hon!!
Me, you - we felt the elation
Of New York unification
We were, we were, we were,
One.

The partial eclipse was interesting, but not spectacular. I suppose that anything short of a total eclipse, with the ensuing darkness, is simply interesting.
However, it was a nice break from the usual. Everyone in my neck of the woods enjoyed the shared experience.

The partial eclipse WAS spectacular.
Much more than 'simply interesting.'
'the usual' has been simply horrific.
