When will the Republicans who nominated this completely incompetent nincompoop as their candidate do a mea culpa? Trump's racism was a plain as the nose on your face. Trump pulled no punches. What was in Trump's head was out of his mouth with no filter. What was there that Republicans are now "shocked" by? The answer is absolutely nothing. Republicans are a stupid lot, to be sure, but to be so ignorant to think that winning at any cost to the nation took precedence over nominating an ignoramus as the leader of their party was an outrage. Forget their excuse that rank and file Republicans voted for Trump. The power of the party lies in the fact that it is NOT a democratic organization. They can nominate whomever they deem the best candidate with no input from the voters if there see a clear and present danger in nominating the "peoples choice".
Blame for an ignorant electorate applies equally to the Democrats. What Sanders supporters could not get into their thick skulls was the RNC and DNC are private entities. There were no primaries that counted until JFK bucked the system. And then there were but a dozen primaries and JFK chose to run in about half of them. In the end the party decides. And in the case in of Trump, Republican party elders knew exactly what they were getting, and yet made a decision which we Americans should never forget, and come next year, and 2020, 2022, the electorate should elect Democrats for every office available.

President Trump's disgusting tweet showing a picture of a "Trump Train" smashing into a CNN reporter bore a chilling resemblance to Saturday's terrorist attack of a car plowing into a car and taking the life of Heather Heyer.
And frankly, I took it as an open signal - dog whistle - by Trump calling for his white supremacists, neo-Nazis and alt-right friends to plow a car into news reporters.
It's not funny.
Trump is inciting hate. He is egging white supremacists, neo-Nazis and the alt-right on because he's signaling he has their back.
Trump has lost all moral authority to act as the leader of our nation.
He should be removed from office
He should be prosecuted.
Because if he isn't, America under Trump soon will be facing it's own Kristallnacht event.

Ivanka, Jared, and all silent republicans this deeply reflects on you unless you speak out. Or we assume you agree with Trump's outburst of his true views. We are falling down a very dark rabbit hole called alt right ville.

The Trump train is going down the tacks out of control. The crash is inevitable.

I really wonder what goes through his mind. Are all his thoughts of such low quality, it takes his nanny generals to get him through the day. Does he approach each issue flummoxed, requiring intellectual support from his staff. We've seen what happens when he ad-libs. He immediately goes off the rails, uncontrolled, scatter brained.
1
One need only compare his delivery of the so-called "denunciation" to his demeanor at times past when condemning immigrants, Muslims, minorities or any other of his perceived enemies -- or even when attacking his allies, such as Jeff Sessions and Mitch McConnell -- to know which denouncements were heartfelt, and which was simply an act of political expediency.
Even in the revised statement, Trump could not resist including another racist dog whistle to his base. After condemning white supremacists, the KKK and neo-Nazis (but not white nationalists or the alt-right), he included the phrase "and other hate groups." His followers will interpret that as referring to Black Lives Matter, the ACLU and other liberal or leftist groups that they claim are minority hate groups.
At no time did Trump offer a single word of regret, sympathy or condolence for Heather Heyer, the victim who was killed in the violence, or her family or loved ones. The man fundamentally lacks the basic human quality of empathy.

A number of Trump defenders have posted comments on the NYTimes' website in the past two days saying, "Look, he finally said what you wanted him to say. Enough already. What more do you want? No matter what he says, it will never be good enough for you."
I reply to these comments by saying, "I only want to hear him say two more words: 'I resign.' That will be enough."

By his tweets, you shall know him:
In his racially discriminatory rental practices as a landlord, for which he was twice federally prosecuted; in his relentless attacks on the innocent minority defendants in the Central Park Five case (calling for them to be executed even after they were exonerated); in his tireless promotion of the racist "birther" lie against Obama; in his first equivocal statement about Charlottesville and in his subsequent comments and actions related to it, such as his immediate Twitter attack on Merck's black CEO for withdrawing in protest from Trump's manufacturing council (but not on the other white CEOs who also withdrew); and now in his incendiary off-script walk-back of his purported "condemnation" of racist hatred, Trump has repeatedly shown his true self. He will never truly condemn racism because he himself is a racist. He will not criticize or reject white supremacists because he agrees with and supports their ideology. That is the @realDonaldTrump.
While all this has been going on, Trump and Sessions have ordered the Department of Homeland Security and other domestic intelligence and law enforcement agencies to stop monitoring and investigating domestic hate groups, even though DHS has identified these groups as the single greatest terrorist threat confronting America today.

It's ironic that for all his tough talk and open embrace of violence, Trump skipped out on his only real opportunity to inflict violence . . . in Vietnam.

While Trump creates this explosion of neon drama his administration along with the GOP are absolutely demolishing our government...taking it apart 1 piece at a time.
How about the media keeping the masses alert to all of the changes the Trump administration and the GOP are making and how it will effect the people of this country and the world.

Whatever may be reason taking law in your hands is not democracy. You cannot be a complaint giver , a witness, a judge and a punishment enforcement official at the same time. Looking at pictures/clips of shouting torch waving protesters(?) it appears that they were prepared for violence. What police were doing. A traffic rule breaker is hand cuffed shot dead and so big violent mob cannot be constrained?

Less than 24 hours after issuing a statement supposedly condemning the violence that led to the death of a woman who was run over by a car, Trump completely undercut that message (and signaled to his base that he'd never meant a word of it in the first place) by tweeting out a link to a cartoon showing a train (labelled Trump) running over a reporter from CNN.
He also retweeted a tweet from a white supremacist conspiracy theory website (the site that gave us "Pizzagate"), and tweeted that he intends to pardon the notorious racist and ant-immigrant vigilante Joe Arpaio.
Now, the very next day after his press conference, he talks with the press and completely walks back his prior statement. He forgives the white supremacists, calling them "very fine people," and blames the counter-demonstrators for the violence. He throws in some pro-Confederacy and pro-racist sentiments for good measure.
When Trump doesn't see anything wrong with white supremacists, neo-Nazis, and the KKK marching through the streets of an American city, inciting violence and chanting hateful and anti-Semitic slogans. This is utterly unacceptable. It's 25th Amendment time. NOW.

Still no correction to this Fake News story.
The IndyStar covers it here:
http://www.indystar.com/story/news/2017/08/15/president-donald-trump-ret...
The image is an past Gary Varvel cartoon showing the Domocrats unable to hold back the Trump Train - modified to show the CNN is unable to hold back the Trump Train.
No one is being hit or run over by a train -- that is a false description of the cartoon -- look at it, you see the man bracing his feet against the ties (which are flying up as the train pushes the man along the railbed) his back to the train trying unsuccessfully to hold it back. The original @SLandinSoCal message states this explicitly.
The whole "train running over" or "train hitting a reporter" thing is Fake News -- journalistic malpractice. It took me three minutes to uncover the story, even before the IndyStar outted it.

In the immediate hours after the riots and death in Charlottesville, Trump consulted with his top advisors about how to respond. It has been reported that they unanimously urged him to issue a strong statement unambiguously condemning hate groups and their toxic ideology. Trump refused.
Almost four days after the events in question, under intense criticism and sustained pressure, Trump finally issued a revised statement about Charlottesville. While delivering it, he tightly gripped the podium and read straight from a TelePrompTer in an inflectionless monotone, never making eye contact with the camera. His demeanor was that of a hostage being forced at gunpoint to read a message dictated to him by his captors. Trump usually enjoys lying, but spitting out his false condemnation of the Charlottesville racists was the first time he has appeared to hate it.

This would be an appropriate time to view these lyrics from the musical South Pacific.
You've got to be taught
To hate and fear,
You've got to be taught
From year to year,
It's got to be drummed
In your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught.
You've got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made,
And people whose skin is a diff'rent shade,
You've got to be carefully taught.
You've got to be taught before it's too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate,
You've got to be carefully taught!
You've got to be taught
To hate and fear,
You've got to be taught
From year to year,
It's got to be drummed
In your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught.
You've got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made,

Trump may be acting this crazy to get an unconditional pardon for all crimes committed, by himself and family, as the cost for him leaving office.

This guy is morally bankrupt and mentally unfit to hold any public office. When are the men and women of Congress going to perform their constitutional duty and remove this man-child - who thinks he knew everything he needed to know about the world at age 6 (his words) - from office??? The 25th ammendment is there - why don't you use it???.

After everything that has happened this past week this article caught my eye. Trump needs to grow up and realize that he is in charge of the country. He can't act like a teenage girl and go around posting stuff on twitter. It sickens me that he posted a picture of a man getting ran over by a train after what just happened in Charlottesville, VA. This is who we call "our president". I feel that when trump is targeted and he knows that the person who is targeting him is right he takes it to twitter. Like the article said "twitter has two options" and instead Trump did not think one second about it.

The deranged narcissist really, really, really hates to be upstaged.
5
Yes, but no one upstages him more than himself-and I think his 'alter ego' definitely thinks that even when he shows his loutish side, he still gets the lout-speakers blasting attention and adoration for being the all time loser, alt-wrong, and right-what's the difference?
2
I am so tired of this buffoon and his excuses for all he does. Just in the past week: he retweets an incendiary and insensitive cartoon by mistake (the fact he tweets inane comments daily is unbelievable)... he doesn't know much about David Duke... Paul Manafort was only briefly involved with his campaign, on and on.
I know people who still defend him and it baffles me. The Republicans that accept his actions ARE deplorable. Anyone who accepts actions like these from anyone would be deplorable.

Scaramucci went on Stephen Colbert's show last night and the first thing he said when he sat down was, I met all your comedy writers in the back... I took all their names down... they are on my kill list. Colbert was so shocked he physical recoiled and stuttered through a few sentences before blurting out, You know this is being recorded... Imagine the conversations Colbert and his staff have had this past year as they nightly ridicule the most powerful man on the planet. And the first thing the guy says when he sits down, in front of the entire nation, is, I've put you on my kill list... Incredible.. This is the quality of person Trump welcomes into our White House. This is the banter and joking common now in the WH, starting with POTUS himself. Consider France's Charlie Hebdo and Sweden's cartoonist Lars Vilks not to mention all the dead reporters and dissidents in Russia. We haven't yet had a political assassination though it is no doubt constantly in the minds of reporters, performers and Anti-Trump dissidents. Trump, Bannon, etc have no qualms using virulent demagoguery to whip up the emotion that triggers the random killing. Note how Trump said in his speech, This has been going on a long time. Before Donald Trump, before Obama.. You could almost see him pleading I'm innocent and then grabbing a startled Obama by the arm and dragging him close.. WE're innocent... Pathetic and small. Cowardly. These people are dangerous and stupid. And dangerous.

In addition to not letting Trump play with our nuclear armament stockpile, we now have to keep him away from train sets as well. Please be sure not to whisper any U.S. intelligence secrets about our national security into his ear either. Once you give him two scoops of ice cream at a state dinner, he tells all to the nearest foreign national he has a meeting with.
Nothing can stop the Trump Train, what does that mean? He and the GOP are going to push his own personal callous agenda down the throats of Americans despite the fact that the majority have said NO by calls, emails, letters, etc. to Congress? Just because no-one says no to Trump, the Terrible?
Listen there are times every one of us has wanted to hit someone truly offensive right in the nose, but our better instincts took over our primal ones. This is all Trump has to work with, primal instincts. This is why the grown ups had to take charge over the weekend to dial down hostilities that were Trump tweeted.
Trump is now infamous as the only leader of the free world who has ever tweeted and re-tweeted threats while at his golf course and on vacation. He was shrugging his way into nuclear warfare while perfecting his swing. It is a toss up who is more insane Trump or Kim Jong Un.

Mr. President, the post of a train ramming a personified CNN is amazingly ill timed and considered. It seems intentionally reminiscent of the recent tragedy of a young woman being killed and others severely injured by an ALT RIGHT demonstrator in VA. Frankly, that is both reprehensible and stupid. Please, sir, engage your brain before you tweet. You are the PRESIDENT - not a witless child!

Meanwhile, Trump has just unscrolled a chart purporting to show how long it takes for "something" to get approved. None of the lettering on the brightly colored boxes is visible.
Like a bad magician, the chart rolls to the floor. "Ten years" he says, this indicates that approval will take. "I could make 20" he says, in a odd defiance of logic saying that if the floor were lower, the chart and approval time would be longer. "This one's for a highway" he said.
He then went on to state that he "likes to know the facts" unlike the "fake media."

Ironic that Trump should be symbolized by a train as his budget proposed shutting down mot of Amtrak!

I am brought to tears every time I think of the senseless death of the young woman. Trump has no empathy; empathy is what makes us human. Separates us from the other animals. What a con.
7
I call upon Twitter to keep an archive of Trump's tweets in perpetuity. Those tweets, by law, are part of the Presidential communications which MUST be retained/archived.
Twitter needs to retain these tweets for any impending impeachment proceedings as well as a treasure trove for future generations of psychiatrists to study in their abnormal psychology courses.

10
I'm numb and I just want this craziness to stop. Am I missing something? Is Mr. Trump insane or just unconventional?

How is it possible for a single individual to be so wrong in so many different ways? It is difficult to say whether the appropriate remedy is impeachment or being sent to bed without his supper.
Trump: Making America Grimace Again.

6
This vile and despicable man must be impeached post-haste. But of course the equally vile GOP won't have it. Intolerable!
4
Despicable, inexcusable behaviour. A "president" (not mine!!!) who encourages violence? WHAT DOES IT TAKE for the Republican party to step up and OWN this disaster that is the Trump administration???
5
Trump mistakenly thinks that deleting something from the internet erases it! That's part of the problem: Delusions of Trump-dom. But let's not get distracted. Here's to hoping SOMEONE (anyone!) provides us with something else that can't be erased: Trump's TAX RETURNS or the paper trail (trial??) leading to them! Mueller?? Anonymous? Putin? Manafort?
5
This guy is an embarrassment to our country, he behaves like a spoiled uber rich teen.
3
Here's the deal, and he said it a while back. He said that he could shoot someobdy in the middle of Fifth Avenue and not lose his supporters. So, he's just demonstrating this truth, and it IS the truth. Enough with gasps and statements of condemnation. What would we hope would happen if Trump stood in the middle of Fifth Avenue and pointed a gun at a person's head? Would bystanders just stand around and passively watch, or would somebody tackle him and take the gun away? Are you listening, Republicans? How far are you going to let him go before your Party puts a stop to this? It is blatently obvious that more people will get killed. It's not remotely enough that the Republicans look downcast and say that their hearts and prayers are with the bereaved. We can't wait for Mueller now. This man, Trump, is truly truly dangerous. For real. He must be removed from the Office for which he was never qualified from the get-go.
9
Do the right thing Mr. Kelly and resign immediately. This is a train wreck!
2
With no legislative success to boost, all he can do is go on the attack. Yuuge Failure presidency so far. He is doubling down on everything that can proven otherwise: the size of the inauguration crowd, popular votes loses and today both side were violence. If it was a Muslim running over a white crowd he would have called for public hanging.
2
"Lord, what fools these mortals be!" Can we please ring down the curtain on all this madness?
2
This person must be impeached. This is out of control insanity. One could even view this as full on evil. How dare he? When I think I cannot hate this creature anymore, it turns out that I apparently can. Impeach this sick "man."
1
Sick and threatening. I hope CNN sues. Every day Trump takes us deeper into his swamp.
3
Here is the answer to the NYT's call to Trump to stand up to white supremacists. Futile! Trump demonstrates more than enough behavioral features of a diagnosis of a dangerous mental disorder. And at his age and by persistent and consistent demonstration, there is no insight capacity to allow for any change. Impeachment and removal from office must be addressed, as his apparent disorder actually does not qualify him for the 25th Amendment. He knows very well the consequences of his decision-making and subsequent behavior--in fact, he counts on them! No technical incompetency, just totally unsuitable. Begone!
4
The US needs laws such as Germany has prohibiting nazi promotion. How many US soldiers lost their lives fighting this vile movement to stop it in the 40s? Was their deaths in vain?
6
Train should run over Trump!

"More strange than true. I never may believe/these antique fables nor these fairy toys." Similarly we spin tales out of nothing. What latest misummer night's madness has come over us?

Polonius. By th' mass, and 'tis like a camel indeed.
Trump has gone beyond disgusting. It was vile to tweet a cartoon of a "Trump train" killing someone days after terrorists killed a woman by running over her. The question is, when will Congress stand up to this pathetic excuse for a president? They have let this foul behavior go on too long.
7
It is time for Trump to go. Impeach him, please, before he does more harm. There is no place for a racist, sexist, ignorant man-child in the White House.
7
A complete lack of sense of timing needs to be added to his long list of inadequacies. What a wreck of a man.
5
The jury just came back:
He...just...doesn't...get...it.
He...just...doesn't...get...it.
6
With every gaff Trump makes, more tweets go out with comments unrelated to his mistakes. Typically, he changes the subject by congratulating himself on accomplishments not due to any actions on his part, or attacking a critic who has pointed out his numerous shortcomings. Is it just possible that Trump is a sociopath? Will we ever know? And if he is, what can be done? Perhaps, the Republicans in the Congress can answer.
5
He's like a middle-schooler sharing a funny with his friends. How much of the nation's business goes undone because he's too busy posting (and deleting) on Twitter?
6
As Mueller closes in, Trump lashes out. Trump cannot escape scrutiny and justice. The truth about his finances and puppet masters will be known.
4
This tweet came after his statement & clearly indicated that he didn't mean a word of it. He is saying that running over people is big joke when in fact someone died & 19 people were seriously injured. These tweets are dog whistles that encourage violence for extremist groups. He has encouraged violence on so many occasions then says it's all a big joke if criticized too much. This is ridiculous -not the behavior of a stable adult much less the president. How can anyone with an once of sanity or intelligence think this is OK?
7
This...from the President of the United States of America?

Trump is a sick man with an unhealthy interest in violence. Dropping the biggest bomb in Afghanistan, nuclear war, fire and fury. Unsuitable? He should never been allowed in the door.

SHAME on you Eileen. You got it wrong and blamed the sender. The cartoon means that the collective CNN, who thinks they are superman, cannot trump political power. Run a google search for "Superman stopping a train" and you will find the origins. Your headline is just slanderous click bait.

Michael, the writers are trying to express their feelings that Trump was being insensitive to the victims of the Charlottesville attack. It is difficult to tell that the man in the picture is "stopping" the train, as his hands are not touching the train and his body seems to be pointed the wrong way. And given Trump's past attacks on CNN, it is a reasonable conclusion that the intention was to bash the media.
2
No, but he is both a symptom and an end result of that.
1
Such a vain, vile man! Ashamed to be a citizen of a country led by this man! We didn't deserve this man as our president. Where has the American greatness and morality gone?

who, pray tell, created the image, where, when, and why; and was it at taxpayer expense? pretty offensive coming on the heels of the 2d degree murder in Charlottesville, given the plainly common visual theme -- was it intended as a wink? horrific and unconscionable if that is the case, given the effect on the survivors (including especially Heather's parents). either DJT is a truly, truly bad man with no sense of common decency, or he has some horrible folks around him to whom he gives free reign to pander.
3
71 year old child.
5
What a poor, despicable, little man.
5
Does anyone know who @SLandinSoCal is and why Trump follows her?
1
Probably by doing a search for #trump rather than following her specifically. He's so nasty.
As tasteless as the cartoon of the Trump train is, and with such poor timing, who in the White House is going to approach Donald and tell him, "This is a mistake." Just look at the CEO of Merck, Ken Frazier and the lashing he got from Donald. He is the CEO of a major corporation. What chance would a lowly White House staffer have? To complete the madness, the rumor is that Steve Bannon is about to be pushed in front of a train, to join the list of the recently departed.
This White House, that Donald promised would be staffed with "the best people", has redefined the definition of chaos.

2
He be crazy. Seriously.
7
Today's press conference showed that Donald Trump shares the views of white supremacists, and is absolutely dug in on those views.
This is a turning point of basic sanity. We are not a safe nation if this is his message to racists and white power extremists.
He also claimed he watched the entire rally. But said he didn't know David Duke of KKK was present at it. Meanwhile, Duke was interviewed there. And shown multiple times. I was vacationing up north and had time to watch it all.
Every bit of it.
Mr. Trump has a differing reality.

4
Does he have nothing better to do with his time?? He is the President, after all. And what about his idiotic bragging that he'd be " more Presidential " than anyone??!! When does that start? He just gets more unhinged week by week.
7
For real? The PRESIDENT can be this infantile? I don't think MAD Magazine would run this. So much for the dignity of the office....
11
the connection here is a bit of a stretch... a reporter trying to stop a train, and some lunatic driving into a crowd. people being a bit too politically correct...
What's acceptable about an image of the president railroading a legitimate member of the 4th estate? Would you object if the train was a car?
5
Politically correct to be horrified by the image of the president's train killing a reporter (most don't recover after being run over by a train) right after the horrible event in Charlottesville? You don't see the similarities and think it's overly sensitive to react to the train image ? I wonder what image you would find offensive enough to criticize the president for? Perhaps a picture of a lynching, a concentration camp survivor, a slave ? I'm curious really about where you would draw the line?
I wholly dislike Trump, but I think linking the vehicular murder and the cartoon is a stretch. Trump just generally says and tweets odious stuff. He doesn't have any kind of unitary theory behind it.
Anyone with a background in psychoanalysis or even comparative literature knows what is symbolized by a locomotive. Big surprise that our POTUS would like the depiction of him as a train.
5
Trump is sick, people. Wake up.
11
It's really great that General Kelly is instilling military-style discipline in the White House. Then again...there is no controlling Trump.
On that note, it's time to resign, Sir.
On that note, it's time to resign, Sir.
10
This...from the President of the United States of America?
14
I am getting very tired and bored by this constant space-filling rehash-reporting of the Joker President's childish tweets, not only here at NYT, but at other major sites like WAPO. I click on these articles less and less, and skim-scroll only a few moments before I have come up for air. How can this style of news writing be called journalism? The experience reminds me of a long-ago time waiting in line at the grocery store leafing the National Inquirer.
5
Why did it take so many hours for NYT to cover this?!!
Yes, astounding. He has zero respect for our freedom of press, as well as for our system of checks and balances.
Congress: you need to issue a Censure of Trump NOW!!!

7
Trump is not only so stupid it defies human comprehension, he is so shameful he doesn't deserve to not only be president, but to be alive-. he is the one who should be hit by the train-
9
The cartoon shows instead of being with the USA he as usual is always concerned with himself. If Bush, or Kennedy, or Johnson acted like this ,wait a minute- They Didn't ! Obama Didn't ! Stop making excuses!
6
Trump: now transparent as optical glass...IMPEACH NOW.
8
All his critics are wrong. There is a silver lining to the Trump presidency. He single handedly makes all the previous 44 presidents look brilliant, compassionate, engaged and competent. No small feat that!
12
There is an important analogy here that might be missed by U.S. readers because of the name you give to railroad ties.
Here they are called "sleepers", and that name can also be given to those who didn't vote in November 2016, but are very likely to do so in 2020.
In the cartoon we see the sleepers being dislodged by the locomotive pushing the CNN reporter, thus awakening those "sleepers" of 2016, leaving the tracks unstable, leading to a Trump derailment in 2020.

5
Although I am no fan of our president and believe him to be a dangerous megalomaniac on so many levels, I do wish the media had asked a few questions during his infrastructure press conference about, you know, his infrastructure proposal.
For example: by speed-dialing the approval process, will that adversely affect the quality of the design, labor, and materials that go into these projects? Will that jeopardize the review and inspection process?
Will we build substandard bridges, roads, tunnels, etc. that fall apart ten to twenty years sooner than they're supposed to, endangering lives, wasting money, and, perhaps, lining the pockets of unscrupulous contractors? How does his plan protect the environment, specifically? Does his plan ensure worker safety or does it gut those rules in favor of fast turnaround times?
I'm sure there are other questions that could be asked that I'm not aware of, but you guys are. Ask them please.

He would not understand the questions.
2
What is quite remarkable is that people are still surprised that Donald Trump would do something like this...at which point during the past 30 plus years that Trump had been in the public eye, did he give the impression of being and behaving any other way?
Stop being provoked, outraged and indignant on social media and instead use technology to organize, brainstorm but ultimately act if you want a different outcome for your country other than the one you are now headed for.
Amidst all the investigations about Russian involvement on one side and voter fraud on the other, the story which is being lost is that even in this controversial, consequential and contested election, almost half the eligible voters in the United States stayed away and did not participate.
Democracy flourishes when an active and informed citizenry participates. Sitting on the sidelines will give you results such as the one you are now confronting. and having to live with.

7
Now this is just hysteria, the man is not getting "hit" by the train, he's trying to stop it. If anything, we should appreciate the image as a fairly accurate representation of not just what CNN is trying to do, but what ALL of us are trying to do.
2
That may be the original meaning of the cartoon but I am pretty sure Trump liked it enough to tweet it because he thought the reporter was being run over.
1
What would become of me if I advocated the same violence against the POTUS that he advocates against his detractors? I'd lose my freedom and my job. Why does he still have his?
15
Trump supports and encourages:
- violence and intimidation of the news media;
- racial violence and oppression;
- ethnic discrimination and dehumanization;
- religious hatred and injustice;
- sexual assault and objectification;
- extrajudicial killing and abuse at the hands of law enforcement; and,
- anti-democratic authority and militarism.
All of these patterns are ongoing and well known. The press and the informed citizenry do the nation a disservice to respond to each outrageous statement or action taken by this immoral and dangerous president as a matter unto itself rather than acts of systemic violence and discrimination in opposition to justice and lawlessness. Treating every action as a one off is what gives Trump the opening to complain about and incessant vendetta against him and his administration. By always tying the latest offense to Trump’s overarching support of violence and oppression directed at identifiable minority groups, the truth and the danger of this illegitimate administration becomes inescapably clear.

During the campaign:
1) Trump solicited hacking against Hillary;
2) Trump solicited Hillary's assassination (how else would you interpret his rumination as to whether or not somebody could take care of her by exercising their 2nd amendment right?).
Why now are we surprised that he would tweet/re-tweet the solicitation of further felonies/murders by sending this very very very thinly coded message to his neo-nazi and skinhead core supporters/base? He is basically yelling "fire" in a crowded theater and there are any number of people who condone this behavior. I'm both shocked and puzzled by the reaction of his base.
He now has the DOJ trying to get IP addresses from the website which may have hosted counter-protest coordination. To that end, he is asking for 1,300,000 IP addresses. How many liberties is this guy going to trample on?
Mr. Mueller, please put on some speed.

President Donald Trump retweeted then deleted an altered IndyStar cartoon drawn by Gary Varvel in January. In the altered image, a donkey's face is replaced by a CNN logo. Joe Tamborello/IndyStar
so the question then becomes who glossed the original image with the CNN logo and who decided the timing of the retweet (POTUS or someone down his food chain - who?!) and what does that say about judgment and motive?

Enjoy your ride Donald on the Trump train. All tickets are one-way only, the ride is dangerous to onlookers and has no planned destination and no one ever returns. Please, please board now.
6
Jude, below, said, "It's been abundantly clear diplomacy doesn't exist in Trump's world or even vocabulary."
I would just add that neither does common decency. Three-million-votes-short-of-a-legitimate-presidency Trump is an amoral disgrace to our United States.

OMG. What is necessary for an impeachment? Is this person getting us back to the 1950's, before civil rights? I love the USA and its history. I hope that in 2020 I can erase these four years of a child running the ex-most powerful country in the world. So sad for everyone, starting with his own kids. It takes very little for white supremacist to ignite. God be with us.
5
Is there anybody left that still doesn't feel that the violence in the streets isn't directly linked to this guy?
12
Never my President.
9
He's gotta go.
5
The original -- available to real journalists who bother -- shows a Democratic Donkey in a suit attempting to hold back or stop the Trump Train.
It is a Gary Varvel political cartoon from the Indy Star, part of the USA Today network of newspapers.
http://www.indystar.com/search/trump%20train/
It took me only three minutes to track this down, using Google image search, from where I am summering -- a campsite in the Catskills.
You'd think that NY Times journalists could do as well....I doubt they even thought to try -- they don't do Journalism at the Times anymore -- not when it involves the President.

Trump didn't retweet the original, he retweeted one that perfectly reflects his hatred of facts, truth, freedom of the press and an informed citizenry.
6
WeAll ==> Yes, @SLandinSocal tweeted the modified image, with the cartoon showing the sentiment that CNN couldn't stop the Trump Train.
There is no one being hit or run over by a train -- either in he original or the repurposed image.
To claim that the cartoon represents someone being hit or run over is simply a lie -- repeated by Sullivan and Haberman.

Bring back Kathy Griffin!
8
Absurd -- the lack of journalistic standards is so shocking, I am stunned.
The NY Times can not even correctly describe the cartoon. It does not show a "train running over a person with a CNN logo".
It shows a person with his back to a train, labelled Trump", his feet braced against the rails, attemtping to hold back the train, which, despite his puny efforts, continues ahead, forcing railroad ties to fly up as they are raked from their bed by the feet of the man attempting to hold back the train.
It is such an obvious misrepresentation that the NY Times should retract this article and issue an apology to the President and its readers.

ya im gonna disrespectfully agree with you and say it that it is indeed the trump train (wreck) running over a man with a CNN box head...
4
It doesn't matter. This is violence against a FREE PRESS. Don't like it? Don't watch it. I don't watch Fox. And you know why? Because no one makes me. Thank god we as Americans have choices. They don't in Russia.
2
Do you really imagine for a moment that that's why Trump re-tweeted it? That he understands the difference as you and I do? Trump would never have posted it intending the message you infer. And comments like yours accomplish nothing but distracting us from the abomination of this pathetic man's travesty of a presidency.
1
2018, take the next step.
2
I am in my sixties now, recalling when we sang this song (and others considered to be of global importance) at Morning Assembly
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

His behavior is repugnant. His reluctance to condemn the racists who invaded Charlottesville emboldens others like them. If his behaviors (bigotry, bullying, lying, lack of impulse control) were exhibited by a child in school- that student would be recommended for assessment for emotional problems. That child would likely be placed on a behavior management plan and given counseling.
It's unfortunate we can't do the same for Trump
It's unfortunate we can't do the same for Trump
11
Isn't this tweet "inciting to violence" or "conspiracy to commit a crime"? We have a criminally-minded person as our president. The results of his inciting to violence were seen on Saturday in Charlottesville, and will undoubtedly be seen again. He needs to GO. How telling that he now thinks CNN is his enemy, because they don't parrot his views, like FOX. But CNN followed every sneeze of his through the campaign, because having the Crazy Showman on 24/7 for months was good for ratings. It bears a lot of responsibility for his rise and his normalization.
10
Proof once again that this so-called Trump "administration" is under the thrall of a man who is both mentally and emotionally unfit for office.
Beyond juvenile.
Beyond juvenile.
14
Thia presidential train first derailed months ago and the GOP continues to right.the train, watch it derail over and over without acknowledging it ain't the train or the rails that's the problem. Take the keys away from the racist, ignorant bully trying to be the engineer now before he totally annihilates everything in his path.
4
Fake news may not be able to stop the Trump train, but *real* news can! Here's the CNN
'real news' reporter heroically doing just that, he's braced against the oncoming engine and his feet are tearing up the railway ties, so if/when the engine travels a couple of yards further, it'll go off the unsupported rails.

COTUS - Child of the United States.
In our White House lives a President with the psyche of a fifteen year-old-boy.
In our White House lives a President with the psyche of a fifteen year-old-boy.
5
That old? I taught for a long time, I'd say he is mentally about 3.
3
I would say 15 year old boys are much more mature than our "president".
My nephews are 15 and are polite, well educated, and empathetic. They are as horrified by Trump as the rest of us. Even the young can see that this man's behavior is often bizarre and inappropriate.
He is deranged and unhinged. Time to consider removing him for mental health reasons.
13
On the most basic level I find it troubling that during these most troublesome times, on so many fronts, Trump is spending his time thumbing through his twitter account looking looking for 'clever' tweets to antagonize his 'enemies' - the millions of Americans that find him a vile and contemptible dolt.
17
What will it take?
He still holds a third of the country in thrall? Yet, that small support shouldn't allow him to get away with this, but no one stands up to him.

7
Its really hard to believe Trump is the president. Imagine back in 1980's or 70's depicting a future president like Trump. Would be like a crazy dystopian Orwellian kind of movie.
Im not sure who is more immature, Trump or leader of N Korea.
Im not sure who is more immature, Trump or leader of N Korea.
10
What a sick puppy trump is.
He lacks the intellect needed to be a leader of a cub scout pack, much less of the free world. It used to be that children were encouraged to look up to the president. This man cannot be explained or justified to anyone.
He is truly ill, not comprehending that his deeds, his words, even yes his inane tweets have consequences. If he doesn't want to deal with them, he should resign. Or at a minimum, produce his birth certificate and college degree so as to demonstrate that he is both human and has some sort of education.

Fake President Trump is NOT the leader of the free world. Let us refrain from promoting that lie.
Yes, and to lead a cub scout pack you're also supposed to possess some human decency and kindness. Trump doesn't have a shred of either. He's a bad person.
1
Is it November 2018 yet?
4
Trump retweeting a cartoon showing a train wreck is an apt and accurate description of his "administration."
6
To paraphrase a well-known older song, "I'll need my pardon, that's the way of this Rose Garden."
Really? It's hard to imagine a worse person in the Presidents office. (Ok - Steve Bannon would be worse)! No role model for our young children.
4
the plain fact of the matter is that we all just deserve a better president.
9
Ryan and McConnell your legacies are tarnished by every moment you let this sham continue.
9
Their legacies are pretty awful already.
Nothing new here, exactly; the same-old just looks a bit different after Charlottesville. Evidently there are no serious people left in government, and that is new.
It is just a nightmare we can't wake up from.
7
When will the congress that supports this vile excuse for a human being, let alone a leader of our democracy realize that this man has absolutely NO values or beliefs other than whatever and I mean WHATEVER will give him more perceived power? He is without morals, beliefs or loyalty to anyone or anything except himself. Somewhere I read that something like 25000 mental health professionals had signed a letter to congress to this effect long ago.
Ultimately our congressional leaders are the ones who will have to answer to the American people for their knowingly vile and traitorous support of a self absorbed maniac while he tears our country apart. Trump himself has never changed nor will he. They should have known that but I guess they never read or believed Faust! Haven't heard a word from Paul Ryan or Mitch McConnell about Charlottesville, and yet the justice department is asking for information from the internet on anti Trump groups. This sounds like an oligarchy to me. People like Jeff Sessions and Scott Pruitt and Steve Bannon, Jared Kushner and Stephen Miller are running our lives now? Who needs an atomic bomb?

Paul Krugman is correct. Trump is un-American. The Republican Party is guilty by not condemning him. Disgraceful and beyond sad.
7
It's worth remembering that all this idiocy is for GLOBAL consumption, not just domestic. And what has, pathetically, come to look like just another day at the office for us in the US still looks like what it actually is to the rest of the world -- bizarre. It's bizarre behavior. He makes Kim Jung-Un look like an adult.
Re=-tweeted internet cartoons is what the president of the US is known for all over the world. Every time the EU or the UN or NATO or Putin think about Trump this is the way they think about him.
Again, more stupid behavior aimed at that sliver of American voters you can find ranting over at Bannon's Breitbart in the "articles" and the comments. This is Trump's audience and he will always look to them for affirmation and applause.
25th amendment. Insist upon it regardless of how messy it will be. Only that way can we signal to the world that this clown is not who we are.

A violent, disrespectful, childish cartoon. The president of our United States is the author, following the horrific acts of violence in Charlottesville taking the life of a young woman.
Come on...when is enough really enough? I am once again feeling physically ill both body and mind.
Come on...when is enough really enough? I am once again feeling physically ill both body and mind.
4
From 5th Ave. to his rallies to his tweets Trump sure does like his violence.
2
It is time for this pathetic, emotionally and intellectually pre-adolescent excuse for a president to go. The tweet was "inadvertent"? Even though it required two clicks? This is almost as disgusting as his Dada-esque press conference this afternoon in which Trump insisted he hedged last weekend because he doesn't make a statement until he "has all the facts."
Right.
Until now I have been embarrassed for our country. Now I am ashamed.
Right.
Until now I have been embarrassed for our country. Now I am ashamed.
7
Trump has told so many lies and has such an utter disregard for the truth that when he said that bit about all of the facts I almost fell out of my chair laughing. Who knew that trump was a comedian. Up to now I've always taken him both literally and seriously. I didn't know that he was just a frightened little man with tiny hands who is gamboling about seeking our favor with his puckish wit. Who knew?
Low-quality person.
5
This is a sick and deliberate nod out to his white supremacist supporters. There is no accident here. The man is vile, irresponsible and dangerous. We teeter on the brink of disaster and our leadership does nothing. Corporate leaders are starting to speak up- where is Congress?
8
My first thought,
"Is Jim Acosta Ok?"
"Is Jim Acosta Ok?"
1
More fake outrage. Making up ways to interpret cartoons to make them seem bad. No one here would have batted an eye if the same cartoon had Obamacare as the train and Republicans as the person trying to stop it.
Stop being so FAKE....
Stop being so FAKE....
2
The person is not "trying to stop" the train - the person is being run over by the train. Get it? Unless you think that stopping a train by running in front of it is really a thing?
Where's the outrage from the right? How is this any different from Kathy Griffin's work?
28
Because it is on the side of the hypocrites. You must know there are two rules.
Can you imagine the outcry if Obama had sicced the Justice Department onto taking down all the names of anyone who visited a site that was anti-Obama?
Can you imagine the outcry if Obama had sicced the Justice Department onto taking down all the names of anyone who visited a site that was anti-Obama?
Utterly disgusting, and/or demented. These are not the actions and comments of a decent human being. This is the drunk, stupid bully at the local bar, or, perhaps, someone not so far removed in his age from the terrorists - in London, and Charlottesville and elsewhere, who rammed their vehicles into crowds because of their disturbed minds.
3
Do the American people have a POTUS they deserve? Can 60 million voters be wrong? Is it time for 25th Amendment rights?
4
One can only assume our Whiner-In-Chief had his fingers crossed when he read the statement others had prepared for him denouncing his allies.
3
I am sick and tired of all the political correctness.
It was July 1964 two weeks after the Civil Rights act and one month after the murder of three civil rights workers in Philadelphia Mississippi that Barry Goldwater in his GOP nomination acceptance speech said, "Moderation in the defense of liberty is no vice and moderation in the pursuit of justice is no vice."
Goldwater wasn't talking to liberals and sixteen years later when Reagan's first speech after his nomination was in Philadelphia Mississippi he was sending the exact same message. Donald Trump is not an aberration he is the product of 100 years of right wing propaganda and obfuscation culminating in the elimination of the voices of moderation in what was once a big tent wide spectrum political party.

2
Incredible misquote of Goldwater. Look it up. Not funny to disguise his extreme-right stupidity.
Mercutio,
Glad you noticed
Moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.
I do not see well and have used that quote many many times. I am a very poor one finger typist and a visually impaired editor. I beg your indulgence.

The correct statements he made are:
(1) "Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice."
(2) "Moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue."

Who drew the cartoon ? Does anyone know? Shouldn't they be accountable ?
1
Here's what someone needs to say directly to Trump, right now.
Have you no sense of decency?
Have you no sense of decency?
2
Has a president ever been impeached for being mentally/emotionally unstable? Perhaps now is the time to set that precedence.
4
The cartoon is a hardly-veiled threat of violence, to this reader.
2
He sure knows how to make friends--and enemies.
1
There is no Trump without the GOP. Their silence is deafening. Wow.
5
I'm disturbed by the propaganda tool Trump's reelection committee released and Congress' silence over it since he is the Republican Party's presumptive nominee and the face of the party. A free press is enshrined in the Constiution. It should be clear to everyone that the RP doesn't support the Constitution and is trying to form a different government foundation outside the framework of the Constitution without the support of even a majority of people.
Is anyone checking to confirm no government money is going to pay for Trump's campaign costs and activities (not that Congress would do anything about it)?
Is anyone checking to confirm no government money is going to pay for Trump's campaign costs and activities (not that Congress would do anything about it)?
That would be the least of monies he is getting from this country. Check EPA, Corporate Supporters, countries supporting his businesses , and the list goes on. Watch Mr. Mueller, he'll let us know.
Too funny! Some are still hoping that trump will appear rational.

Doesn't the "President" have something presidential to occupy his time instead of "Tweeting" childish, inane insults. How does his behavior command respect?
Who's minding the affairs of State?: Foreign relations, Domestic terrorism, Health care, Infrastructure, the Economy... etc., etc.
Former presidents have considered it their duty and privilege as leaders of the free world to focus their attention on governing this great country. This one seems to regard his duty as to himself (and family) for personal gain.
Does his age impair his ability to think in a rational manner, or is it that he couldn't care less about the American people? In either case, the people of this country deserve better.
I have faith in our Democracy and believe that in the future, the Tweeter in Chief will have plenty of time to tweet...all day, every day, with no responsibilities.

Many of the comments on Fox's story about Trump's news conference today were equally outraged by his defense of the supremacists. I found that heartening.
1
I find it incomprehensible that the leader of the free world encourages violence and hatred. Grow up! Be the leader this world so desperately needs and be the example that we should all aspire to. It will never happen.
1
So why do you call him the leader of the free world? He is anything but.
1
Fake President Trump is NOT the leader of the free world. Let us refrain from promoting that lie.
I certainly hope this administration ends peacefully, however, I'm not optimistic.
We here in Arizona now sit on pins and needles as the President contemplates pardoning a contemptible man who wreaked havoc over minority communities in our state.
For the president to call Sheriff Joe Arpaio an honorable man suspends belief.
We can all hope the powers that be in Washington find a way to gracefully remove this man from office, a stain on our democratic experiment.
If so, I will be proud our institutions worked as the founders wanted.
If not, there will be more blood on the streets.

This man is the most juvenile human being in the country. He should not be our president, and in my opinion should be locked away somewhere so he doesn't hurt himself, or anyone else.

2
Shouldn't Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan as leaders of the Republican Party be loud and clear in their condemnation of the president's behavior? I don't mean a tweet. I mean a loud vocal condemnation. Silence isn't always golden. Sometimes it's just plain yellow.
1
With this image of the train and reporter Trump is now advocating violence against American citizens in full view of the public. That is called domestic terrorism. Arrest him.
1
Interesting that some CEOs are showing courage while the Republican leadership continues to whistle past the graveyard. Perhaps we need names - the ones of the CEOs who are not standing up to Trump so that we may boycott their businesses, and the names of Republicans who think this behavior is OK so we can find out who's up for re-election in 2018 and 2020 and start working against them NOW.
2
We are truly living in Bizarro World.
I recall someone once pointed out the math of terrorism, and its power to erode the US. The notion was basically that the US has to spend a million to one for every buck they spend to try and defend itself. Perhaps more.
Trump uses 140 characters. Tirelessly. And by proportion the media thinks itself winning when it spends fortunes and exhausts itself responding to these little barbs. I wonder what the asymmetrical effect of this will be after another year, two years or more.
Should we wasting the ink and mental bandwidth reacting to every little thing? Or ignore him except when it really matters. Like blowing up the world versus a tweeted cartoon. Just asking really.

I appreciate your thought process, but...no.
The proper game theoretic response which is almost always the dominant winning/break-even strategy is "tit for tat". Each and every time trump spews his nonsense, he needs to be called to account...on a 1:1 basis. That is the only correct/sound approach for dealing with his madness.

Jamie Raskin, a Maryland House Representative HAS filed legislation (on 4/6/17) to get trump removed from office - via Section 4 of the 25th Amendment!

A President who took seriously his sworn oath to protect and uphold the Constitution would not have even considered for a microsecond retweeting such an image.
If he doesn't take his oath of office seriously, he's more than welcome to quit his job right now.

Yep, this is Trump's self image.
Going full speed down rails that are preset. A narrow window with no visibility of the little people on the tracks that are being smashed, without any sensation felt by the man in the locomotive.
How could he possibly resist re-tweeting this?

God speed Bob Mueller.
1
My impression that Trump is a horrible human being, which I've had for a long time, continues to be confirmed. That such a person could actually be the POTUS speaks to a fault in the design of our democracy. The electoral college was intended to prevent such individuals from becoming president. Clearly, it failed us.
3
I guess it is the same train he took to serve in Vietnam. -)
2
When someone shows you who they are, believe them.
1
Trump picks the side of practically every American enemy.
3
trump's retweet is another example of his reassuring his white supremacist & nazi voter base.
2
A comedian remarked recently that the Republicans had finally decided it was time to "put their Frankenstein on a leash." If only that were possible.
1
Trump is either suffering from the first stages of Alzheimer's or he is just plain mentally deficient reason he stayed out of public. Every time he opens his mouth his stupidity explodes in public view. It reveals his ignorance and lack of conscientious deficiency to understand the world around him. He's pathetic.
1
I despise Trump. But linking this cartoon to Charlottesville is pretty silly. It shows a guy trying to stop the Trump Train, not getting run over. It's true, Trump is a fool for retweating it. Once again, he fails to show any of the dignity past men in his position have demonstrated, like Obama. But connecting a cartoon to the recent tragedy involving Nazis and white supremacists is bogus. It gives a dwindling number of his supporters ammunition.
Wow
Ye.t another reflection of Dear Leader Rushmore's deep seated mental illness.
His poor judgment, his bullying, violent manifestations of his diseased and dark soul.

Hard not to think that the train is about to go into the abyss. Sad, but all POTUS seems to have accomplished is to make America GRATE again... whatever happened to 'ask not..'?
1
What a tasteless childish thing to do---the behavior of an 8 year old! And Trump did this right after his white supremacist pals staged their horrid riot. Was it to spur them on? He is crazy!
1
He's not stupid, not crazy, not demented. In his vile, disgusting, criminal way, he is intelligent. Every action he takes has meaning, including this 'accidental' tweet about running someone over and his 'rambling' press conference today comparing George Washington to Robert F. Lee--it's all about signaling to his base. Then, he'll 'take it back' or 'clarify'. But the dog whistle has already been blown and succeeded in calling in the dogs. Remember, inept though he is at everything else, he's masterful at PR--it's what he does.
2
Trump is a sick sick person.
1
There is such a thing as sensitivity and timing. Most humans are aware of these things and draw back from going there when they know it's wrong.
Trump is not one of these people. His is a child in a man's body. He is not like most people. He's not smart enough or capable enough to know bad taste when he sees it. All he sees is his own view of things and how everything affects him. Selfishness and self delusion have taken him far.
Things that affect others do not register with him.
He campaigned on the backs of people in need, whether it be working wages, healthcare, opioid dependencies, jobs. He has turned his back on all of them except for rallies which are for his aggrandizement. The adulation needs are pathetic and daily but his lack of providing any relief is increasingly clear.
There is no end to this but for him to resign or be removed. It is not in him to change. He doesn't know what he's saying half the time and doesn't remember it 10 minutes after he says it.
We've come a long way since the days of compassion. This is a very dark time and expecting any compassion to come out of this president is like expecting rainbows hourly.
He is only capable of blaming others for his shortcomings and failures. In times when you would expect a president to step up, he shrinks into the fake he is.

Good for him. The last time someone posted a meme like this, CNN threatened and blackmailed the guy. I think this image is in very bad taste, but CNN's bullying tactics must not be rewarded.
You must be the king of bizzarro world. Just put on this jacket and close all of the buckles...it is for your own safety.
His tweets are ridiculously puerile. I doubt if there is a strategy to them. He is just reflexive, like a Roomba bumping into a wall.
1
he wanted to punch a Black Lives Matter protester in the face.
I know that with all his Secret Service guards the chances of someone getting him like they got Richard Spencer are a dream but dreams can come true sometimes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rh1dhur4aI

Trump serves the alt-right well. He's the showman, the P.T. Barnum. Sometimes silly, always provocative. Behind the scenes the real threat is unfolding. Pruitt at EPA. DeVos at Education. Price at HHS. Ross and the rest, whatever they touch. This set of henchmen & women will accomplish for the far right what no President, other than Trump, could every pull off. While the Clown is prancing for the crowds and camera his ministers are dancing on the graves of effective democratic government.
1
I cannot credit Trump with thinking about, making a connection between Charlottesville and this meme, and somehow sending a message to his nazi supporters: that's too much thinking for Trump. This meme is just another of his "hits" on the fake media meant to show how powerful he and his "movement" is, continues to be. Nonetheless, it does show how stupid he is, how lacking in empathy he is, how self-absorbed he is, and how unaffected he is by reality other than the one he creates in his own head.
Why is this news? Why am I writing this comment? Why is anyone writing or commentating about this type of individual?
Surely everyone knows by now, except for those who share the same values as Trump, that he is , to be kind, a head case of epic proportions.
Americans have to accept that they have put a person into the most important job in the world, and in so doing, have endangered our very existence. Due to immaturity, and insanity. Actually have put the safety of the world into his hands...
We should be so proud of ourselves. All those years of building bridges...down the drain.

Fake President Trump never misses an opportunity to display his puerile, bellicose, narcissistic, dissembling amorality. We will not have moral leadership back in the White House until wannabe President Trump is out of office. The sooner the better.
2
Stripping away every bit of hyperbole, this president is genuinely mentally defective.
1
Trump is insane. C'mon senators, time to get this guy out of the White House.
1
He's the Troll-in-chief. Is it any wonder that he has done this? From now on they should just replace his head with that green frog dude's head whenever he's on television. That's who he is. He has no morals, no scruples, no backbone and no sense. Oh, and yeah, he's our president.
1
This was a tactic Trump used skillfully throughout his campaign, using innuendos, or sending clear signals, but then cloaking them in some deniability. He'd claim that he was just repeating what others said, that he was joking, or misinterpreted. We all know the score: he's a bully, a crybaby, a racist and a liar (this is amply documented and can't possibly be grounds for not posting this). All weekend, he sent signals (a possible pardon for Arpaio, the attack on the news media, the retweet of the rightwinger's posting on Chicago murders, and this despicable tweet) to reassure his radical right racist base that he's one of them. Judging from comments from folks like Spencer or the Nazi outlets, they understood completely and got the message. That's exactly how the rest of the country needs to see him, today, tomorrow, and every last day of his term.
1
Donald Trump is such an idiot. Why wouldn't he realize that an illustration of a train running over a reporter, just days after the Charlottsville murder...would be considered insensitive and offensive! Because he is a sick and deranged narcissist and he is mentally and temperamentally ill suited to lead the country. Please Mr. Trump, if you read this, please resign. The country can take much more of this. You must know by now that this job is not right for you. Can really say you enjoy being President? Do us all a favor and go back to making Trump International great again and leave America the hell alone,
1
Oh, he is sooooooo opposed to hatred and violence.
1
It really is time for Congress to do its job and remove him from office. He is showing loud and clear, again, that he is not competent. Today he is showing that he doesn't know the difference between a tweet and a re-tweet, right and wrong, between the blue button for someone to bring him a Coke and the red button to detonate a nuclear bomb.
2
What an imbecile. An idiot. A craven, amoral, willfully ignorant, vainglorious, low-class, lowest-common-denominator, racist, moronic parvenu with no filters. He is pure ego. An addlepated old nincompoop whom no one likes and yet whom everyone is still afraid of. All he wants to do is play golf. Please! Let's let him just go and play golf! And leave the governing to the adults (few of them as there seem to be) before he shreds every last remaining vestige of what passes for sanity in TrumpWorld.
"The tweet was posted inadvertently." Suuuuuuuuuuure it was.
When is Kelly going to give up? This "president" is irredeemable.

Every day I just shake my head in wonder, sadness and amazement that this person just gets viler. Yikes there he goes spewing his hateful thoughts to his base making them crazed.
1
Oh the backlash has begun. We "liberals" are being so unfair to Trump. #Everything is Trump's Fault.
Yup you got it. It is his fault. He is a racist who continues to this day to incite division and violence. His words were TOO LITTLE TOO LATE. Trump is a liar.
And mean and a bully.
Trump is the POTUS and it is about time he stand up and be a man and accept responsibility for his words and actions. That he can not do so is his problem.
Let him stew in his pathetic victimhood.
Until Trump grows up, grows a spine and actually behaves like a mature adult responsible for his words and actions, he will be called out every time he fails to do so.

Is moron too strong a word for this guy? What in the world goes through this man's head? He still has no inkling of the awesome responsibility that's been bestowed upon him by admittedly less than half the country.

I stay with the free press as defenders of democracy. The press is essential when we have bigoted idiots in office.
1
The greater Washington, DC area has dozens if not hundreds of qualified mental health care professionals available to help the president obtain inpatient psychiatric care.
The troubling issue is why his family, vice -president, cabinet, and speakers of the house or senate have never lifted a finger to help the ill fellow.

One of the best comments I read on FB this week was "Heather Heyer deserved a better president." Has he mentioned her at all?
62
Nope but he talked about his winery at a press conference.
2
He mispronounced name.
1
Well Trump mentioned her mother. after her mother thanked Trump for some statement of sympathy for the murder of her daughter, he then turned the conversation back to him, how great her mother was to be able, after all she was going through, to show appreciation to Trump. Because, man, that was the important thing.
Every day or two I think: "He cannot possibly out-tweet his own narcissistic madness." And the starter pistol wakes me up again. For months he has demonstrated an ever-increasing ability to startle, outrage, depress, and shock. Yet Republicans -- and even Democrats in their own way -- fail to acknowledge we are being "led" by what has to be deemed a psychopath.
The CNN/Train 'cartoon', following the riot in Charlottesville, is characteristic of a 'rational madman' disavowing everything he said the day before, so the Nazis, KKK, and white supremacists could hear: "You can mow 'em down, guys!" And we can now plan on even more irrational physical attacks to come.
The editorials -- in any paper -- that encourage Trump to do this or do that are merely making academic, moot points: the man is incapable of making any decision that bears on a reality-based outcome. He is his own reality -- and we, the American people, are his hostages, even his so-called 'base.'
I do fear that we are so much closer to his becoming a 'fuhrer' -- with his henchmen and supporters -- than one might think. Despite our tweets and comments and rage, we have yet to form a unified front to oust him, and to reestablish justice and freedom -- and a reasonable citizenry, at least as much as is realistic these days.
But the potential is in us. Perhaps somewhere, some one or some dozens are planning a peaceable and legal 'coup'. Barring that action -- we are complicit in allowing a madman to rule us.

"The president has long appeared to sanction violence, going back to his campaign when, at a rally, he said he wanted to punch a Black Lives Matter protester in the face."
I would be very surprised if Donald Trump has ever punched anyone other than, possibly, a woman.
Trump is very likely a physical coward so he surrounds himself with people who glorify physical violence -- Don King, Vince McMAhon, Mike Tyson to name just a few.
Trump revels vicariously in violence because he is physically and emotionally incapable of perpetrating any.
On so many levels, Donald Trump is a coward.

I can't believe I am meant to fly "home" to the US in 2 days. America, you're off the rails. You look completely insane from this vantage point.
2
He is criminally insane. Lock HIM up.
4
He lashes out at the press because the press held him accountable to say something against white supremacists. He really didn't want to have to do condemn those people because he still wants to coddle his base and those people are his base. Shameful!
4
Just another instance of mind-boggling insensitive narcissism by the truly "ugly American" in the Oval Office.

Now that we know for sure that Trump is a racist we understand perfectly why he constantly attacks our former president Obama---a man clearly a cut above Trump in every way but just not the right color.

How is it that the president has so much spare time he can afford to be playing with Twitter? Not just tweeting his own inane thoughts, but reading and re-tweeting stupid stuff posted by others? Doesn't he have more important things to do? I am embarrassed for our country!
When I read this - I thought that had to be the most clueless, tone-deaf, purely and simply stupid thing he could have done. Then I read that he's got Sessions off trying to get the names of the anti-White Supremacist people to prosecute them.

Actually, no. By fourth grade, most kids have developed compassion and the ability to write and speak fairly coherently.

To think that he, even for a split second, thought it was appropriate to retweet this after Charlottesville is not only incomprehensible, its frightening.
3
Why isn't this impeachable? This person is actively stoking violence. He is a hero to Nazis. He has to be forced to disavow Nazis! Think about that for a moment and tell me why this is being allowed to continue? That's on top of threatening nuclear war and the invasion of Venezuala.
Hello? Paul Ryan, are you listening or does the devil possess your soul?

Let's be realistic. Trump is vile, but that's not the image of a train hitting a CNN reporter. That's the image of someone leaning in and trying to resist the momentum of the train. It's a pretty standard metaphor that has been used for years in political cartoons as well as Bugs Bunny.

This is like having a twelve year old for president.
What make me more upset than this inappropriate cartoon is that nearly 30% of Americans still think he is doing something right.

What a silly, foolish, limited person Trump proves himself to be, again and again, with his childish tweets. A nation of parents works hard to teach their children to communicate and respond in a mature way (well, many parents do, anyway) and here we've got a president who acts like a toddler and needles and name-calls when he doesn't get his way. Jesus wept...
1
How is this helpful in any way? Is he the President or just another Twitter troll? I think in the interest of the country, Twitter should revoke his account.
Today,I will write to Sen. Bernie Sanders to urge him and other sane members of Congress to start impeachment proceedings against Trump. My own senator is Ted Cruz and even though I have written to him re important issues like healthcare etc., it's like sending a letter into a deep, dark void with a predictable unsatisfying answer. If President Obama had ever posted such a sick cartoon,(especially after Ms. Heyler's death this weekend) we all know the Republicans would be outraged. President Clinton's sexual misbehavior is small peanuts compared to what we've tolerated from this sick man. We DO need to make America great again, but NOT in the way Trump wants. He's pretty nuts for a President. Even the dumbest of us can see that.
1
Hahaha, come on you guys, do better. Your just posting the same ole outrage comments over and over again.
1
Donald Trump absolutely will not causing trouble for America. This crazy has incited hatred and violence before he was elected and he has not stopped since. He is destroying American and his so-called advisors are as crazy as he is. Where is the Republican Party--or should we say fascist party now? They are no where in sight and there is nary a peep out of them either.
Translation of cartoon: white haters in my base. Don't worry, I'm still with you.
Another puerile post from an alarmingly addled old man. MAGA? Don’t believe the hype. The events of the past seven months have proven beyond a doubt to most of the world—friend and foe alike—that this presidency is an American Tragedy. Never mind that DJT’s approval ratings this week have continued to sink to what is now an all-time low. Even the venture vultures who once lounged serenely at the head of the Trump train have begun scrambling for exits as their loco-motive wobbles and careens off the tracks. What took place in Charleston has confirmed for them what John McCain, Colin Powell, and the majority of the electorate already knew: when the stunning incompetence of their chief executive becomes an embarrassment, a disgrace, and a national liability, Americans—mindful of limits to their patience and trust—will soon, and rightly, demand a more capable replacement.
Gee, more dreadful, insensitive, insulting, violent, tweets, from the dreadful, insensitive, foolish, clueless, indecent trump. Like I didn't see that coming a mile away.
Listen up folks; its not just "Twitler" but the entire Republican Party that has given a "voice" to the Nazis, the KKK, the "White Supremacists" and all others of their ilk.
2018 should be the "Year of the Muzzle" as, hopefully, enough Americans realize that the GOP is a Party of divisive, abusive and, now, deadly rhetoric and the electorate, through voting, decides that "fascism" is NOT "democracy" nor will it be tolerated anywhere.
Get out and vote, encourage or shame others into voting and start the process of turning this ship away from that iceberg while silencing the voices of hatred.

Good lord. There are kindergartners out there that would make much a better President!

Sure it was. Another gutless dodge by the incompetents serving the National Embarrassment.

"appeared to sanction violence" Appeared???!!! The person who wrote this should be fired.
So much for General Kelly restoring order to the West Wing. What a shame his distinguished career will be reduced to the same pathetic, ineffectual humiliation of Reince Priebus. Get out. Now.
1
Where are you, General Kelly?
And you were wondering why it took Trump so long to condemn the Nazis?
We have a clown in the White House.
A petty, malignant narcissistic bully with the intellectual skills and emotional maturity of a seven year-old.
As pathetic as he is, more so is the protracted silence of Republicans who don't outright state that he's, at best, unfit to govern and, at worst, insane. What does it take, truly?

What else should we expect from a feeble minded child???
Our fake President strikes out, again.
Just when I thought Trump couldn't do anything more moronic and childish, he tweets this!
1
It's important to understand that the core Trump voters didn't vote for him because of his policies and don't care. They voted for him because of some tribal fantasy of manhood -- the image of a big, rich white guy thumping his chest and getting all the women he wants. That image delights them so much that everything else is forgivable. The more he thumps his chest, the more he is the kind of leader they want.
On some level, some people wish it was 8th century Europe and their tribal leaders were doing nothing but beating the drums for another religious war. And for those people, what better leader than this guy, wrapped in gold leaf, shouting about how tough he is?

Russians are the same way. The crave strong leadership. Since Trump admires Putin many of his moves make sense - only positive press is allowed, squash dissent even if its a small group, always talk tough, machismo, how large certain body parts are
1
He is way more immature, and grosser, than any fifth grade boys I've taught.
13
how mature and he's all ours..what a guy!
12
And this man have the nuclear codes...Every time I se a phto or a video of DJT I rememberthe italian Lombroso and his book of criminal and mad characteristis of dangerous man. America, please, for the good sabe of the world, throw this sicko out of the White House.

Trump disgusts me.

Trump is plain mean. Like most cowards, he is mean.

I am a liberal by vocation and a locomotive engineer by profession. As a result, I find Trump's post repugnant on myriad levels. I have struck and killed three pedestrians during my career, the last one barely ten days past, so one might ask the cartoon engineer how he or she feels about taking a life, even that of a loathsome journalist, in a situation in which a train crew find themselves impotent and helpless, but are still compelled to live with consequences forced upon them. There is little succour from the horror and the grief. For Trump to make light of this is to characterise the ruthless, insouciant, nature of his regime: he simply cannot comprehend the folly of the atrocity he is inflicting on America and the wider world.
It is predictable for such a man to bring nuclear war to global consciousness after barely six months in office. It is the ultimate abuse of power and process that permits the unthinkable. There are still veterans living in America who stormed beaches in Europe and the Pacific in the conflagration against fascism, yet der Führer, Il Duce, and His Imperial Highness sit in the Oval Office at the head of a miraculous nation, his mantra to make America grate against rationalism.
The country is the train in Trump's cartoonish world, he, a caricature of the maniacal engineer who would never exist in a reality based on the responsibility required to safely operate a locomotive through populous regions. The hapless journalist is the American people.

Well said. Thank you.
A disgusting display of un-presidential bravado, which further confirms Trump's racial and bigotry views. He looked like an angry child that had been verbally spanked and now must verbally accept the error of his ways
17
What do you expect, coming from a Fake President!
16
Just when you think he couldn't get any more pathetic and reprehensible... Go Mueller! The sooner he is impeached the better.
24
Trump is a Nazi. He should be run out of this country on a rail.
17
Benedict Arnold is a Russian traitor Nazi pig. Get rid of him.
10
Unfortunately, pleas to Congress for relief from this nightmare continue to fall on deaf ears.....
18
Certainly the optics of the cartoon are terrible. The Posobiec retweet is even more sickening and insidious. After taking two days to finally, but peevishly and wholly unconvincingly, call out the hate groups that were active in Charlottesville over the weekend, he takes mere hours to make a point of minimizing the horror of what happened, and broadcast one of the leading voices in the alt-right movement with yet another racist dogwhistle. It's an intentional way of saying to this hateful portion of his base, "I'm still with you, we're on the same side."
Truly, the shamelessness is bottomless and the failure is immense.
Truly, the shamelessness is bottomless and the failure is immense.
16
Trump is a parasitic inflammatory disease in search of ever more hosts to infect. We need to keep working on the vaccine, for as long as it takes. And as if our lives depend on it.
12
This is considered knee-slapping humor at Trump Tower, baby.
13
along with grabbing the "you know what" jokes.
1
As other commenters have pointed out, this is not a cartoon of a "person being run over by a train". The cartoon is badly photoshopped from another cartoon picturing the Democratic party mascot (donkey) trying to stop the train during last year's presidential election. In both cases, the target is an organization and not a CNN journalist or the murdered 32-year old woman. Fanning the flames of outrage helps readership NYTimes?
3
Interesting that such a macho "real man" acted like such a whiny little coward during the Vietnam conflict. You would think that, based on his big-mouthed bluster, that he would have been champing at the bit to go to war. Another Republican chicken hawk.
9
Boy, did you miss the point!
I remember thinking when he insulted the Gold Star family, that was enough for him to go no further. CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW WRONG I WAS? He just layers it on day by day. When is the GOP going to put an end to this?
13
The president is a bully. We don't need a bully in the Whitehouse. Impeach the guy now or we will have more and more bullies.
9
We have a sociopathic, narcissistic toddler-brained moron in the Oval Office.
What is Congress going to do about it? Disgusting as the Republican lack of action is, I must say I haven't heard any strong statements about his fitness from Democrats, either.
Do we need to march, petition, sue or what to get rid of him and his henchmen, including Pence? What??

Bannon has survived. He is durable. Trump's Twin? Perhaps. But Bannon is behind all things Trump. Get out the shovels people start digging. For Bannon is the mole iron molded at the hip to the President. Capture and Release is Kelly's next Project. Release to some Siberian Forest.........

Another insight into a teenager's brain... uncensored, self-centered, impulsive.
4
Wow. This is one sick puppy.
13
In a fashion reminiscent of Dr. Strangelove's uncontrollable Sieg Heil salute, Trump had an insuppressible spasm retweeting the cartoon, inadvertently according to White House sources.
7
After Charlotteville- is this where Trump's head is??? Unbelievable the level our presidency has sunk to.
MAKE AMERICA FREE AGAIN: DUMP TRUMP.
MAKE AMERICA FREE AGAIN: DUMP TRUMP.

There are not even words.... if this man doesn't have any handlers, he surely needs some.
And...Thanks a lot, Deplorables. Hope you got everything you wished for.

People should stop using Twitter until the company bans Trump. This irresponsible, despicable man is toying with lives of people here, even the stupid ones who follow him. Those "Heil, Trump!" should be heard by the American society.
7
What a pathetic excuse for a human being!
7
When the nyt first started posting every tweet I kept wishing they would stop.
Not so sure now.
It's better to know who he really is which is reflected in everything he does.
Might as well see the unvarnished reality.
Someone said the tweet was a joke.
Only a person with no insight would post this cartoon as a joke, after someone was killed so recently by a similar out of control car.
This is exactly what someone does who is asleep, unaware, no insight, instinct driven, and extraordinarily anxious.
Blames others, focuses on others and yet at the same time looks to others for approval.
Stop hoping he'll grow up, stop doing this, stop tweeting, etc .
Not gonna happen.
He's clearly unprepared for the reality of the position he's in but he won't leave on his own accord because it requires thinking to do that. He is in a non-stop instinctual reptilian mode.
It's all reactivity and anxiety. No thought.
The person w/ the least amount of emotional maturity has the most power in a family, a business, a government.
Why? Because they make everyone else uncomfortable and people try to get them to grow up, stop drinking, stop being irresponsible, stop gambling, stop tweeting,
He has to want to grow up all by himself. We cannot change him. At 71 it's likely never gonna happen.
He gives a daily example plus some to remind me I don't want to leave a path of reactivity behind me.
And i can work on not adding more anxiety to an increasingly anxious world.
Not so sure now.

Duct Tape or Crazy Glue on Trump's mouth and fingers might be a temporary solution.

Name one good day Trump has had. Name one crisis he hasn't made worse. No aptitude kinda means inept. Peter Principle Invoked. He's not the Prize. America become his third divorce...........
5
He's like a small child with a shiny toy he just can't stop playing with, and he will never grow up.

Apparently, Twitter's Terms of Service: If you encourage one death, you’re kicked off. But if you ALSO applaud that death and encourage more, you’re OK.
4
Bad optics? An error? Latest misstep?
No--this reveals significantly impaired thinking + poor judgment for the president to widely distribute an aggressive image where an individual is hit by a train. Legs crushed.
When barely a speck of time has passed where a woman purposely mowed down by the vehicle of a Trump supporter lost her life--- and 19 additional people were injured. A mother lost her daughter. A nation rocked by evil.
It's as if he doesn't care.

Trump continues to try and govern OUR country with "fire and fury, the likes of which the world has never seen." This retweeting of this cartoon only further illustrates his dividing dogma. The level to which he continues to stoop is beyond astounding at this point. Any sane congressional seat holder must enact articles of impeachment as he has proved time and again he is unfit.
3
Trump is a demented old racist degenerate who belongs in a mental institution instead of the White House. His daily Tweets and Re-Tweets are providing proof of his unstable condition. Anyone who enables hm will be the subject of history's scorn when this dark episode eventually comes to an end.
8
Well what was CNN doing standing on the railroad tracks? Unless they were trying to kill themselves. Otherwise I just see a fixed train on a track, not a car that can drive anywhere.
3
Another proof that Trump is an impulsive maniac that cannot think five seconds ahead. I'm hoping that the " Football" is kept at least five minutes away from his small hands.
2
Readers should recall that Trump "could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody" without consequences. It would be reasonable for the President to enjoy the same absence of accountability for running over people with a train.
4
We're going to go through the fire. Maybe we'll come out the other side.
2
A morning toot on the dog whistle just to make sure the instrument will still work as intended?

Does one really need an MD or PhD to see the emotional disorder and early dementia here? Can Ryan and McConnell be that blind?
6
45 is about staying in power and needs to send out these little winks of approval to the right so that when he is forced to condemn their actions they know where he truly stands.
5
How presidential. This man has absolutely no dignity. He's an embarrassment to our country.

Correction: Make that Charlottesville ... my brain, too, is apparently coming unglued. Further evidence that the vicious virus is infecting us all.
Wait until he pardons the white supremacist killers? If he can pardon a rogue sherif, who is stopping him?
6
Will no one in the GOP stand up, accurately describe this man as both wildly incompetent and completely insane and call on the Cabinet and all elected officials to remove him from office?
Having been forced to stand up and repudiate his very essence as a grievance nursing, grudge bearing, violence inciting white man who inexplicably feels slighted, this is what he does next. He cannot behave himself for 24 hours.
And he is probably busy with Rhona at Trump Tower destroying evidence.

For White supremacist groups, "Fake news"=Jews.
Last weekend, we heard them singing "Jews will not replace us".
This wasn't an innocent tweet. It was meant to reassure his racist supporters that despite apologizing yesterday, he was still one of them.

So appalling. I can't stand it anymore. How is this OK but Kathy Griffin's video of beheading Trump is not?? The man is essentially saying he wants to KILL journalists.
I wish nothing but vile and awful things upon him - humiliating and debilitating.

It's hard to believe some people still want to believe that this was not in any way connected to the recent Charlottesville tragedy. If not, why was it removed so quickly?
Just yesterday it was a CNN reporter who asked Mr. Trump if he would take any questions on that specific incident, and the reporter was, once again, insulted and dismissed as "fake news." No connection?
Stop making excuses for Trump, the most incompetent, crude person to ever hold the office of POTUS.
No, we shouldn't excuse him because 'he's not a politician,' or 'he's new at this,' or 'he speaks his mind.' Enough. We wouldn't accept such behavior from a CEO of any publicly traded company, yet this so-called businessman has been given a pass by the like element who voted for him and the spineless elected representatives who care more about protecting their positions than what is clearly the morally right thing to do.
Trump must go!

Ahh! Back to normal. Now that didn't take long, did it?

Deplorable.

He is a SICK man. Time to use the 25th amendment!

Same place as Obamas REAL Birth Certificate. Right???
Same place as Obamas REAL Birth Certificate. Right???
5
General Kelly, you have an impossible job controlling this mad man.
4
The Donald Trump presidential picture will not hang in our schools classrooms for my children to see. The Obama picture will remain until a adult is elected the next president.
5
This doesn't make any sense at all:
"A White House official said early Tuesday that the tweet of the train was posted inadvertently and was deleted as soon as it was noticed."
Trump is having problems with reading comprehension and retweeted a tweet he didn't understand?
Someone got ahold of his phone and took over his twitter account?
Neither of those scenarios are likely.
What is likely that this was a quick wink and nod to his hardcore base but he didn't have the courage to leave it up. And whoever offered the feeble excuse from the White House is lying.

Maybe, instead of being freshly aghast at every reprehensible thing this man does, we should steel ourselves and project our outrage into the energy of demanding that Congress do it's job and get rid of him. I no longer care, really, if it is by impeachment or the 25th Amendment, he needs to be taken out of the White House, post haste.
97
This is Trump's way of crying for help. He doesn't want this job, never really did, and he needs responsible adults to intervene. He'll keep doing this stuff and it will get worse until he's "helped" out of his situation. Republicans, show your leader and the rest of this country some compassion and end the tragic farse. We've already lost good people. This is like watching on-coming trains with nowhere to pull over.
70
I agree that he doesn't want to be President....it's too much work.
He'd rather "Tweet" insults all day --and reap all the benefits of his office.
With his background in his business, he thought he could be CEO and tell all those in the government offices what to do. But, alas, that's not how it works. You know, that pesky three equal branches of government "thing"...and the president actually does have a responsibility to have some positive input...not just order up what he promised during the campaign. Although it does appear he has numerous scared, servants in his Cabinet.

I would much rather have this circus of an executive branch of government out in the open, unavoidable for any Republican ally to claim ignorance as they advance the same agenda under veiled and strategized dog whistles. Since the US seems unlikely to ackowledge its racial crimes, unlike Germany did with its Nazi crimes, it's best to have such a transparent "leader" as its top representative, instead of the garden variety republican that would create an epic war or economic recession that affects much of the world again.
We can stop the Trump train, sir. And we ARE.
1
Does Trump not realize how the social media/internet works?!
Firstly, no-one's fast enough to delete anything they post without a set of eyes already on it and secondly, even more so, a public figure...and a controversial one at that.
Everyone's watching and even with the mounting tensions, Trump once again through reckless decision-making decided this was an ideal thing to do or perhaps using this as another aversion from yesterday's findings of emails from one of his Campaign Aides reaching out to Russia?! At this point, I could careless about Russia, but this Admin's attempt at Leadership is everything wrong with this country!
It's been abundantly clear diplomacy doesn't exist in Trump's world or even vocabulary.I can take his continued ignorance, but the downright callousness speaks bluntly of this man & his inner circle's character including so-called advisors. This isn't entirely about shock value considering this is the same man who went after London's Mayor shortly after a tragedy.
Trump and his camp keep complaining it's them against everyone else, well you cannot chose how people portray you, only you do and you can't always label bad behaviour as unconventional. This Admin thrives on disruptive & chaotic environment.
Trump supporter or not,you have to know the value of human decency! This is not about a popularity contest...pun intended.
Gen.Kelly looks like your presence makes no difference!
I am beyond mortified this is the face of our country!

He does not know where the plug is or the on off switch.
Why has the 25th Amendment not been invoked? He is utterly incapable of governing, let alone being a human being. Is Congress actually waiting for a nuclear strike or the deaths of more innocent people before they do anything?

Each day sees our president walk deeper into infantile tantrums, pejorative behaviors and hateful actions (or lack there of).
I don't just refer to his tweets and his lack of leadership with the Virginia riots and tacit endorsement of white supremacy, I refer also to the disastrous actions being taken by Scott Pruitt at the EPA as he secretly rolls back regulations designed to protect the environment and gives away public lands to corporations willing to destroy them for short term gains.

3
The tasteless retweet of the cartoon Once again highlights Mr. Trump's total lack of empathy as we saw during the campaign and following months of a presidency that is going to go down in history as the worst. Mr. Trump's reluctance to impose discipline among his staff is said to be because he dislikes confrontation. His behaviour though, shows a penchant for attracting conflict mostly unneeded. He is consumed by a passion to destroy those who disagree with him and chief among them is the mainstream media. That he has been able to hold his base does not speak well for America and Americans.
3
Donald Trump's erratic behavior is getting and response to each setback more bizarre by the day. It seems like he is starting to fall apart from the inside out. Perhaps we as individuals and as a nation should start to prepare for the eventuality that he will leave office in not too distant a future and move into a mental institution.
2
My god. When is enough going to be enough? GOP your silence is deafening.
4
Reagan Litmus Test: Are you better off today than you were 6 months ago? Even one year ago? The President ceded his moral authority on Saturday and the nation is now more fractured and fragile. Trump will galvanize the next Civil War until Congress puts an end to it.
6
Lighten up, guys. This is the sort of thing any nine-year-old would find funny. And, well, der Donald will be der Donald.
Still, we elected him to be our leader and spokesman for four years. Elections do have consequences, and this one is having consequences with a vengeance.
Still, we elected him to be our leader and spokesman for four years. Elections do have consequences, and this one is having consequences with a vengeance.
2
Mental health checkup long overdue. Trump Train is off the tracks, careening wildly and destined to crash.
5
Trump proves over and over that he is an enemy of the interests of most Americans, of democracy, and of a civil society. The GOP's reputation will suffer for years to come for their lack of courage and conscience.
7
So much outrage.
1
how can we deal with 4 years of this horrendous behavior? Everything that is bad, Trump commends. Everything that is good, he makes fun of. There are so many problems in our country that need a logical and focused solution. We will surely fall behind is solving them with him as our president
6
This is still another shiny object.
While we pay attention to his tweets Scott Pruitt is quietly dismantling the EPA, the Department of Interior is quietly selling public lands, Betsy DeVos is busy turning our public schools over to religious and for-profit scammers, Treasury continues to bow to Wall Street bankers, the State Department is decimated, DOJ is being run by a bigot, and Rick Perry is still not sure what his job is.
That’s the real damage. It is happening in plain daylight while Trump distracts our attention like a circus elephant. As if North Vietnam were not enough, Trump may now be turning South America against us for meddling with Venezuela.
We have a national emergency. Congress must put country ahead of partisanship while we still have a nation to protect, and get us rid of this clown.

i hope the trump train wreck takes out the entire crew. no survivors.
2
It's not CNN the "Trump Train" has mowed down; it's common decency.
5
This is incitement to violence, and it's not the first time Trump has done. It's on the Republicans to start the impeachment process now!
4
This is your President, the symbol of the United States. Be proud.
2
I'm mostly worried that the Donald thinks these tweets are clever.
8
When is our do-nothing Republican-controlled Congress going to remove this "so-called" President? Enough is enough. It's time for Congress to remove Trump.
7
Can this guy get any less presidential?
6
This man is not fit to be President. In fact, I'm not sure what he's fit for.
6
As I and others have said, this is not just about politics--no mentally competent person would retweet this, let alone the "POTUS".
4
The latest not exactly full-throated denial of white supremacists. KKK & neo-Nazis was a sorry attempt ... Just left the "wink and nod" at those hate-filled groups. More so after Trump's tweet about Trump train running over CNN ... DJT wants to be closer to Russian state suppression of media that doesn't agree w/his stance ... Shameful!
12
Get this low class, low intellect, low morals loser out of our precious White House. End the nightmare now! Republicans, "choose whom you shall serve" our Country or the Orange Buffoon who is sinking your party and our beloved nation!
16
Time for Twitter to up the game and ban him. Enough is enough.
12
And yet, RepubliCons who continue to Con Americans into believing that they are true patriots... and still support him obviously do not believe in our democracy. No real American can still believe that this fascist president is a good American. He is an evil, vindictive plague on our nation and voters who still support him after all of this are enabling the fascist and his Nazi followers.
16
I am sorry but I have to say what a moron our president is. Incredible.
11
You know what kills me?
Even if we could wave a magic wand and rid ourselves of him this afternoon -- he'll still be the 45th president of the united states. That's indelibly part of our history and the smear on this nation will endure. It's incredible, really.
A monkey could throw a dart at a random page of any phone book and come up with a better president. A thousand times.

1
What an Idiot.
It's just luck that no visual using a car wasn't available as I am sure he would have posted it, blithely unaware of why nobody ever would.
Especially a President...
Not a proper one, anyway.

12
Notwithstanding the tone-deaf callousness of Trumpovich's tweet, one needn't be an overdetermined Freudian to discern the subliminal message contained therein: Nothing Can Stop the Trump Train Wreck.
10
He is just such a vile man. Shame on him and all of his disgusting base.
8
Oh no this is beyond vile. Trumps post is dangerously provocative it appears that the idiot we elected is signaling that it is ok to crash a vehicle into a person or entity that doesn't share your point of view and values...His timing and judgement is woefully lacking...Firm believer in free speech but we should have a president that doesn't act like a disruptive child. He appears to be mentally unhinged. Get him some mental health care. I can't believe we elected him as our president...doesn't say much for the lot of us!!
8
The events of the last few days shed a different light on why Trump thinks the White House is such a "dump": It still has African-Americans on staff...
6
Typically crass tweet from (p)Resident Trump. When you think he can't get any lower, once again he lowers that expectations bar even further. It is now about five stories...underground.
8
Daily dose of entertainment for the "basket of deplorables". How far has the dignity of this office fallen. Remember Obama anyone? Just remember President Obama and then hang your head in shame and if you voted for this vile, disgusting man child, slap yourself repeatedly till you come to your senses.
9
It's good to see that Trump finally has a plan to take over Amtrak.
2
How stupid is he? A white supremacists assaults and murders people by running over peaceful protesters with his car - and he posts the exact same concept, with him murdering CNN by running them over with his vehicle?
There's racist, there's willfully blind, there's deliberately provocative - but this - this is nothing more or less than just plain DUMB.

Twitter presents the unfiltered Donald Trump.
It offers a window into his vile, vindictive, and vainglorious soul.
It offers a window into his vile, vindictive, and vainglorious soul.
41
Do we need anymore evidence that Trump s unsuited for the job of POTUS?
24
Some people might need him to actually shoot people on 5th Avenue before they think he's unfit, for some that might not be bad enough, fake news. Afterall the moon landing was faked.
3
So much for the thought that Kelly would have something like mitigating influence over him, not that any sentient being would've been so self-deceiving. Congress, how much longer do you plan to sit idly by and allow the trainwreck to be magnified?????
22
Pleas to Congress continue to fall on deaf ears..... Unfortunately. No, wait.... Tragically.
3
Remember the movie "Kindergarten Cop"?...Well, now we have the "Kindergarten President"....Apologies to the real kids in kindergarten, many of whom are more mature than this President...
25
"It's not a tumor!"
Why is this guy still in office?
Failure to act on the part of the Republican controlled Congress is tacit approval of his behavior.
Failure to act on the part of the Republican controlled Congress is tacit approval of his behavior.
24
When are we going to get real about the fact that our president is seriously mentally ill?
32
What is what is wrong with this man? He acts like a malignant juvenile delinquent. He doesn't belong anywhere near the levers of power of a major country, or even a minor one. When are the Republicans going to face up to the danger he presents to our country and get rid of him. Please, country before party before more damage is done to our democracy.
23
This has to be the final nail (railroad spike) in his presidential coffin!!
17
There are no words, Trump is deranged and Republicans are spineless. This is sick, a young woman exercising her first amendment rights was run down by Nazis in our great country and Trump can't be bothered to rebuke the Nazis and then shares an image that directly references the image of Americans being run down in Va.
32
Anyone who could tweet an image on a train hitting a man with a CNN logo, after a white supremacist plowed into a crowd killing a woman and injuring 19 others is not fit to hold the Office of the Presidency.
51
Are you surprised?
13
Honestly, I guess I am surprised. But I guess the bar has just been raised. Again.
What a child, this POTUS! Perhaps General Kelly should be made chief of commander-in-chief?
9
Everyone had high hopes that Kelly could mitigate POTUS impulses- Good Luck with that.
It's clear Trump has no conscience and no respect for America and it's people. Shame...Shame....Shame.
It's clear Trump has no conscience and no respect for America and it's people. Shame...Shame....Shame.
2
Why is this 70 year old mongrel not dragged out of WH or Trump Tower, yet? If it was another country he would have been lynched in Time Square. Why are Americans so lax when it comes to holding their own politicians accountable ?
17
Every civil rights, anti-hate group, liberal university and the Southern Poverty Law Center, a leader in bankrupting hate organizations, should formally invite Donald Trump to speak against hate, white supremacists and neo-Nazi groups and then publish their invitations to his Twitter account.
Let's see how Trump deals with the calls to lead from the front rather than dog whistling to his white nationalist base supporters.
Let's see how Trump deals with the calls to lead from the front rather than dog whistling to his white nationalist base supporters.
16
I would say "I'm speechless" but it would put in the same camp as this sociopathic commander in creep who apparently has so little command of language that he's resorted to pictures to convey his murderous intentions.
12
What can you say? This man makes all the right moves ... not. Trump is uber reactionary. Let's hope his personality traits don't kill millions eventually. Or let's change the way the nuclear football is passed to him.
5
Wow, Trump almost made it 24 hours without inciting violence or hate. Maybe tomorrow. Likely never.
18
I could not think of a more insensitive response to the senseless killing of a bright young woman than that of Donald Trump. He owes her family and the world an apology. He has disgraced the entire country.
33
A more accurate image of his presidency is a train going off a cliff.
18
Trump's use of his phone and twitter has to be a security risk. Surely a much greater security risk than Mrs. Clinton's private server. And is the White House following the law in regard to record keeping, what with all the tweets and retweets and deleted tweets? Why is no one in the National Security apparatus looking into this?
22
Even if the cartoon person being hit by the train was Steve Bannon, this picture and tweet are in the worst possible taste. Once again, no filters exist on any level for this man
19
Trump has given new meaning to the word puerile.
17
Who is kidding who? We are a violent people with more guns per capita than any other group of people as well an over the top "defense" budget. We thrive on lies and silence critics with violence. Almost every cartoon I have ever seen has had an element of gleeful violence as a punch line.
Mr Trump was imbued with a mindset of military power early in life which appears to have never left. I can only surmise the branch of his followers who showed up in Charlottesville were themselves beaten and cowed by fists and lies through their adolescence. As demonstrated by the Nazi protesters they are bringing the hatred engendered at that time to fruition.
His behavior during the campaign made it clear Mr Trump has little concern endorsing violence as a mainstay of his performance and a large part of our almost adult nation has no qualms picking up the cudgel.

While the Vacationer-in-Chief tweets away, is General Kelly now AWOL or just MIA?
Or—more ominously—is he COMPLICIT in fomenting violent attacks on the media?
Or—more ominously—is he COMPLICIT in fomenting violent attacks on the media?
21
Donald J Trump is proving to be the worst president ever because he has absolutely no interest in reaching out beyond a base of bigots and deplorables. He has delivered a supreme court judge but nothing else and has not shown the means to even accomplish what his base wants. Others really do not want what he wants. Where does that leave us...In a bad place!
9
Dear Fellow WNY'er - The so-called president did not deliver a supreme court judge. He stole one for the bench.
4
(corrected a typographical error)
The President could have posted an image of the 1975 - 1976 American Freedom Train, which also inspired the song 'Freedom Train' by James Coffey "freedom for my sister and brother, blind of race, creed or color". That would have been a healing moment.

Talk about a train wreck...
13
This the action of a person who has the mental age of a child among other serious deficiencies. When will he be removed on health grounds? It will take nay years t
8
My 3 year old grandson has more brains then Trump.
1
So where are the congressional leaders (?) in all of this? The same cowards who are afraid to hold town hall meetings while on vacation are not about to denounce their base and president for fear of losing support. Cowards and liars who hide behind the flag and continue to erode our rights for their science hating and religious beliefs. The death of that woman in Charlottesville is the fault of conservative America, and it's time they admitted it and took steps to stop it from happening again.
14
Trump saw the Charlottesville killing then put himself in place of the car and imagined himself as a train running over things that get in his way.
Disgusting, tasteless, insensitive, shameful acts are not impeachable offenses, but they should make it that much easier for Congress to vote the right way on matters that are. So should the fact we are all at risk of nuclear peril because of his utter ignorance of things that matter.

13
I am healthily skeptical of the notion that President Trump is in fact the ONLY person with the password to that Twitter account . . .
4
Is Mad Magazine still being published? The writers there would have to do nothing. Just print what's in the paper.
8
yes, Trump is on the cover of almost every recent issue of Mad...seriously
Maybe we are better off with the president playing around on twitter instead of devoting his minimal intellectual capabilities to his elected position. Just think of the damage he could do were he engaged.
10
This man is a child.
10
"A White House official said early Tuesday that the tweet of the train was posted inadvertently and was deleted as soon as it was noticed."
Really? Does the WH really expect us to believe this lie?
Really? Does the WH really expect us to believe this lie?

And North Korea thinks they have problems! Wake up people the coffee machine just exploded!!!!!
3
It's satire. Only an issue when it's from Trump. Hypocrisy to the extreme.
1
No - not so easily dismissible. It is not satire. It is infantile and unacceptable from someone holding the office of President of the United States.
2
No. Genreal Kelly deleted that tweet.
4
If you visit the original poster's twitter account it's nothing but right-wing spam. In fact the woman has to claim in her bio that she is "not a bot." She goes on to state that she is an "Independent Thinker." Is this a joke? Scrolling down her feed you notice a post about how "all slaves in America were owned by Democrats." I'm guessing she didn't pay attention in history class on how the parties switched platforms. Additionally, she has some racist post pinned on "3 phases of Muslim Immigration." Trump is clearly driving both division and ideas that are void of facts. Then you have mindless followers like this person on twitter spewing hate, intolerance and stupidity.
16
Trump is a petty, little, sick man exhibiting more concerning behavior by the day. How can Americans continue to respect of the office of the Presidency when the man holding the office is not worthy of respect of any kind.
11
Trump is a sick, sick human. That is who he is. He won't ever change.
Now we're hearing pundits and Trump enablers saying that if Trump gets rid of Bannnon et al. we'll see the real person, full of positive qualities, compassion, etc.
That's nonsense. Trump surrounds himself with Bannon et al. because he likes who they are and what they say and do. It is folly to ignore that fact, as if Trump's decision to embrace Bannon et al. is somehow not his decision or not a reflection of who he really is.
If Bannon leaves the Whitehouse, let's not be fooled by the pundits who suggest that Trump has "turned a corner" or "pivoted" or changed. Nonsense. We know exactly who this man is and what he is at his core. And it is not good.

10
This is a very sick person who can share a depiction of a vehicle murdering someone immediately after he is criticized for not taking a strong stand against extreme violence and against "haters". He has neither comprehension of all kinds of matters, nor discretion. Donald Trump has a mental illness that requires him to be removed from office. It matters little that his illness is undiagnosed because he hasn't submitted to examination. All that matters is that the symptoms show up on a daily basis, warning us that it's only a matter of time before he starts a horrible international war simply to shift attention from himself. We must not wait to remove this ill man from the White House.
9
The relief this country is going to feel the day Trump is out of office (sooner than later hopefully) will be immeasurable. I for one cannot wait.
12
Take heed. At this rate, it will be well before "Jan202021".
Admit him to a psych hospital!
Forget the 25th Amendment, which requires initiation by brown-noser Pence. Here's what 2 psychiatrists can achieve whenever Trump is in NY State. He clearly "poses a substantial threat of harm to self or OTHERS.":
Involuntary - Two Physician Certificate (§9.27)
Standard: person has a mental illness for which care & treatment in a mental hospital is essential to his/her welfare; person's judgment is too impaired for him/her to understand the need for such care and treatment; as a result of his/her mental illness, the person poses a substantial threat of harm to self or others.

Trump retweets a post showing Trump train destroying a CNN reporter? Way beyond a lapse in judgement; it illustrates how consumed with violence and retribution he is. HIs committee attempts to place a television ad showing photos of actual CNN journalists and labeling them "the president's enemies" to what end? This man is harming our country, every day, in every way. And his AG wants the names and identifying information for everyone visiting the Anti-Trump website? Who's idea was that and who thinks this isn't a slippery slope?
17
What anti-Trump website ?? Please - clue me in. I want in. I'll report myself to his AG. Proudly.

Looks like another impulsive move, probably due his media compulsion/habit.
Tweets can be deleted.
We just don't want any impulsive moves when it comes to, say, North Korea.
I put my faith in top advisors not the president.
Less than ideal, for sure.

There is nothing wrong with calling out the media bias. There is lots of bias out there, and CNN is not an impartial arbiter of news, and context as much as it is about creating a soap opera, based on palace intrigue (white house). It's motivated by sensationalism, driving ratings, packaged as a news outlet.
" There is lots of bias out there,"
Well, that's enlightening.
Tell me how a sick old man's tweet fixes things.

3
Let's be clear: not only is his erratic and unpredictable behavior out of character and beneath the office of the US Presidency (to put it mildly), it's straight-up BIZARRE for ANY grown man to compulsively post insane, immature, and wildly inappropriate rants to social media - PERIOD. We are WELL beyond 25th Amendment territory here, folks.
20
Trump has still not learned that attacks on the media only make the public more respectful of it. CNN NBC CBS and newspapers like the Washington Post and the New York Times are a light in the storm.
14
Not only is Trump's 'funny' cartoon ill-conceived; it's poorly executed. Is this behavior typical of the average graduate of The Wharton School? If so, that esteemed institution really needs to rethink its graduation requirements.
7
Can the Congress require a mental-health evaluation of the president?
9
Of course he shared a cartoon. That's what you do when you have the maturity of a 12-year old. How extremely impressive our "leader" is (to 12-year-olds).
8
Trump has outsourced a good deal of his presidency. Maybe Baron was left in charge of the twitter account?
Trump is a man who condones violence. It's been a theme of his since he's been in the public eye. New Yorkers will remember how he acted and what he said after the rape of a jogger in Central Park. All he's done (regrettably) is to put his views on the national and international stage. But it's not new except to those who thought he'd begin to act presidential once he took office. The problem is that being president gives him a perfect way to spread his views to Americans. Those that think that way already will see what he posts and says as an endorsement. Maybe the Europeans, specifically the Germans, have the right idea about outlawing hate speech.
3
I figured Trump had his fingers crossed when he stood in front of the microphone to appear to renounce the hate groups of the right. The Tweet shortly afterwards is confirmation of my suspicion.
As for any connection between that moment and the twit's re-tweet of the CNN/Train cartoon, I tend to doubt Trump is intelligent enough to recognize there might be such a resemblance to the vehicular murder on Friday. He just thought CNN getting run over by a train was funny on an adolescent's humor level, the equivalent of the roadrunner being caught by Wile E. Coyote. When more discerning, i.e. adult, eyes in the White House caught it, then it was scrubbed. (To illustrate further: The Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon show of the early 60's was funny to grade-schoolers and even more so to their parents; the slapstick visuals for the kids and the sly dialogue for the adults in the crowd. Failing to meet the criteria for inclusion into the category "Adult" leaves Trump with the 3rd-grade crowd.)

4
I see this as his way of telling everyone he sides with the alt-right. If you recall, the first CNN video he posted was created by someone on the alt-right and pulled from an alt-right website.
6
Why do we think he cares, he has shown zero empathy, is not apologetic, and shows no signs of inclusiveness. Denigration and disparagement are his go to behaviors when confronted with negativism or criticism. Of great concern should be not just what we in this country think, but of world leaders watching and listening to this spectacle, and what they believe and how they will act. It is disheartening to witness our standing among the world community erode.
7
Aside from everything else, it's interesting to contemplate how someone reaches the age of 70 and remains so totally clueless about the world, as well as apparently having developed virtually no sense of empathy at all. It is a case study for future psychology classes.
6
He suffers from a narcissistic personality disorder. One of the problems with this disorder is that he he believes he is acting correctly. He lives in a vortex, clueless about reality. Just check his Tweet after the Merck-CEO quit yesterday. That was exactly the behaviour any shrink would expect.
As if we needed more evidence of his mental instability and absolute unfitness for the office of President.
Twitter surely can delete his account on grounds of inciting hatred and bullying a variety of individuals.
Twitter surely can delete his account on grounds of inciting hatred and bullying a variety of individuals.
5
This is yet another one of countless examples showing that although Trump may claim he cares, and probably thinks he cares, he really doesn't care or think about anything but himself. He can't help it.
Just remember what the Bernie left told us last year: Hillary and Trump are the same.
2
Hello Mike, from Little Falls. Always enjoying your comments. Good point you make there.
1
You honestly think Hillary would be doing any of the nonsense Trump is doing? You are a big part of the problem my friends.
1
That's not what I believe he meant. He was calling out the Bernie supporters for equating T-rump and HRC. A ridiculous comparison - she is light years above him in all respects.
MSM knows no limits. They happily smear and shame anyone who gets in their sights. Then they blast anyone who disagrees with their Anointed Vision.

Dear Congress,
How much more do we have to take? All decent citizens of the United States of America have asked repeatedly that you impeach the monster in OUR White House. Please take us seriously and get Donald J. Trump our of there, now. If we have to wait for Mr. Mueller, there is a very real possibility of reigniting the Civil War.
Sincerely,
A very concerned voter
How much more do we have to take? All decent citizens of the United States of America have asked repeatedly that you impeach the monster in OUR White House. Please take us seriously and get Donald J. Trump our of there, now. If we have to wait for Mr. Mueller, there is a very real possibility of reigniting the Civil War.
Sincerely,
A very concerned voter

Additional evidence that Trump is totally amoral. He understands winning and losing, but has no comprehension of the concepts of right and wrong.
5
Isn't that a form of hate speech? Shouldn't the FBI be investigating? Once again he is giving his followers carte blanch to inflict violence against people who disagree with him. I hope CNN can afford body guards for all their employees.
7
It might be a stretch to equate the image of the train and the horrible incident on Saturday. However, it's clear that by tweeting this image Trump is only perpetuating his own personal message of hate and attempting to rally the troops. In other words, a not-too-subtle message to his white nationalists and devoted bigots: "Don't worry about that little script I was forced to read on Monday -- I'm still your guy." A small minded, frightened little man occupies the White House and daily he proves he is unfit for the office of President.

Add this to the evidence that Trump is profoundly incompetent to serve as president.
Message to Congress: Forget about keeping him around as your signing puppet. Get him out before you irreparably damage your party's brand for 2018 and 2020. We'll all be better off in the long run.

Maybe they thought Trump was going to use a train to kill CNN reporters? I don't know, I think too rationally.
1
Maybe you should try to think less rationally and try to understand the underlying meaning of things.
Trump has been (thinly veiled) inciting violence since the beginning of his campaign. Now that a young woman has lost her life, aren't he and his henchmen up for possible charges as accessories to murder? Is he above the law? A young women was just convicted for murder for urging her friend to commit suicide. Only words? Words matter, especially from the 'leader'. David Duke said to the media that the domestic terrorist hate groups , kkk, etc, are fulfilling the promise and blessings of Trump. When does Trump become responsible?

The guy has no filter at all. Even if he knows it, he simply doesn't care. Basic morality, decency and respect are signs of weakness in his world. He has lived his entire life in a wealthy, privileged cocoon. No one has ever called him to task. He's never had to struggle, to stand up for something.
This is a spoiled toddler in a man's body. Nothing, no one change him...he's way too far gone for that.
Yet, this loathsome creature is President , and, in spite of all of the negative things he's said and done, millions still support him. This is no longer my country, and the rest of us will likely never recover from him and from his deluded supporters.

Time for trial for murder.

"A White House official said early Tuesday that the tweet of the train was posted inadvertently and was deleted as soon as it was noticed."
Lie #1. This puerile act is despicable because of its content and the age of the 71 year old "boy" posting it and the incredible fact that this "child" is our President.

60
Inadvertently? Uh, no. Who tweets inadvertently? Actually, Trump himself says he sleeps only 4 hours a night and experts conclude that he therefore seriously sleep deprived, so maybe he tweets in his sleep. Nah.
As another poster says he knew exactly what he was doing. A wink and nod to the racists, neo-nazi's and white supremacists.
Can Twitter please act in the national interest and delete this man's account?
89
Exactly! Please correct me if I am in error, but didn't Donald Trump use his Twitter account to promote MORE violence and retaliation against those who he felt wronged by? If anyone else did this, wouldn't the F.B.I. be paying them a visit?
8
No, no! Let him hang himself with his own rope.

Marge Keller,
How about his Jack-of-all-trades aka Kushner giving four chances to fix his lies and falsehoods on TSC form? And worse, he still works @ WH and attended all high-level secret meetings.

We appear to be witnessing Trump suffering a mental breakdown.
50
Oh Phil please, stop being so kind and generous to Donald Trump. This man has been suffering from a mental breakdown for decades. It's just more noticeable now since he is in the public eye for all to view and witness.
4
Yes and it's been on-going from at least 2011 when he first spouted that birther garbage....
NYT move this up in the headlines. More people need to see how truly tone-deaf this guy is.
65
Along with the clip of David Duke praising Trump. That needs to be replayed early and often.
4
More vile dog-whistling. It's time for Congress to ACT. This means YOU, Repubs.
44
Please not that. Two words of caution.............President Pence.
Posting this cartoon for his millions of "followers" on Twitter to enjoy a few days after an innocent woman was run over and murdered by a white supremacist demonstrates, if needed be, that his were crocodile tears yesterday.
Comes to mind also with this latest Trump outrage, your last president Mr Obama's comment at one time that the Presidency does not change who you are, rather the function reveals who you truly are...

Didn't poor ole Kathy Griffin lose her CNN gig for a stunt not UNlike this?
And Billy Bush lost HIS spot for merely countenancing (Trump's) ugly ("locker room") behavior? Scarimucci was fired 'merely' for mouthing off.
Now...perhaps all three outcomes were justifiable.
But...yet...here, Trump is making light of murder...as well as of the destruction of our Free Press!! HE's still in Office!

What a sick, sick president we have in the white house. They should take him away. But then we have Pence! What a dilemma.
36
I don't think Pence is such a dilemma: as Trump's consigliere he would be under a microscope and somewhat ring-fenced whereas Trump is a clear and PRESENT danger.
4
We can deal with Pence later.

The pot calling the kettle black. SMH.
I am absolutely baffled: how can a president of the United States sink so low! It has never happened before. Can't he just be disposed? The man is 70+, he is not going to change.

CNN is hardly a threat to conservatives so why demonize it? I am a progressive who considers CNN a glorified People magazine. I only look at CNN for the headlines then read the rest of story in major news media such as NYT. For a different perspective read foreign news sources such as BBC and a Japanese one. Yes, some Americans can read a foreign language. American sourced news media such as CNN has become pulp fiction.
13
So you agree with Trump that CNN is fiction? I'm sure he appreciates your solidarity. With progressives like you, we don't need conservatives!
1
I think Trump directs the most @ CNN because, of the 3 cable channels, they're the only one with an explicit international arm. He wants his kids to do even more business overseas and CNN reaches that audience.
16
He contains multitudes, none of them endearing.
9
I've already written off the "train wreck" that passes for the mind of Donald Trump, so I take his tweeted cartoon another way. CNN is particularly effective in pointing out that Trump is a clear and present danger to our democracy. While Trump claims that he does not watch CNN, he lied about that too and admitted it weeks ago.
Obsessed with cable news and his ever-diminishing popularity, Trump knows very well that CNN is getting its coverage of him out to increasingly broad audiences ---- who are fed up with his puerile and destructive antics. The more you see such tweets, even if only for brief moments, the more you know that Trump himself is getting the same message.
You're reaping what you sowed, Mr. Trump, and you will continue to until you do the right thing and return to obscurity from whence you came.

Time, place and manner restrictions on such free speech are constitutional. Read up on it.
As Joseph Welch said to Senator Joseph McCarthy in 1954, we must say to Trump in 2017:
"You've done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?"
Trump is deeply morally flawed and mentally disturbed man, and every day he becomes more vindictive, meaner, and more dangerous for this country. He has no sense of the consequences of his actions, refuses to accept responsibility for his behavior, blames others, and makes every bad situation worse. No corporation would tolerate such reprehensible behavior in its CEO.
How much longer will the GOP let this sick man and our country deteriorate?

Trump's level of analysis is the cartoons - and tv news, namely Fox News - he doesn't have the capacity for reading reports, books or taking briefings, as we know.
19
Trump knew what he was doing with this tweet. He resents being forced under political pressure to make additional comments about Charlottesville. The fact that he retweeted and deleted the image indicates what a coward he is. Like a child, he has to have the last say. This person is who the president really is.
38
Trump wouldn't be in the White House if it weren't for CNN. Just saying''. Enough. Get those grifters out of our government.
10
I'm coming to the conclusion - and I'm not trying to be flip or clever - that one of the features of the man's mental illness is the urge for self-sabotage, and we need to pay attention to that, esp. as it may relate to self-sabotage of the nation. If I try to see all of this from his perspective, I realize that if I suddenly became president by surprise I would quickly become overwhelmed if it were not in my range of capability and temperament. Question then is how do I deal with the problem. From what we know of this man it might seem that he is dealing with himself in the same way he deals with his enemies. Maybe not the case, but whatever the case he needs to be removed from the White House, perhaps to his own future relief.
10
Trump continues his efforts to intimidate the press using a time-tested GOP tactic:
1. Use apocalyptic language that inflames the fears of the extremists and the uneducated
2. Keep turning up the heat and be ready to act surprised should anyone heed your calls for extreme action. If anyone objects, turn it back by saying they can't take a joke.
3. Maintain that you were only speaking figuratively and cannot be held responsible when violence occurs. Extra credit for following that by accusing your accusers of playing politics with tragedy.
4. Keep your celebrations behind closed doors.

Trump supporters see his "CNN Trump Train" tweet as just a joke. The rest of us see Trump as the joke. Big difference, and neither is funny.
17
What did you expect from a man that makes fund of the handicapped? This behavior was obvious when Trump was running for office. The real problem is the people that voted for Trump, as they will still be around long after Trump is out of office.
13
Can we make it a mandatory requirement that any 70+ years occupant of Oval Office must submit to annual psychiatric assessment?
And if found unfit for office should be removed immediately for national security and humane concerns.
And if found unfit for office should be removed immediately for national security and humane concerns.
10
I think anyone who has access to nuclear weapons should be required to undergo an annual psychiatric assessment. Yes, it might take an hour of their time, but it could save all life on earth. I think it's worth it.
2
So much for yesterday's words of contrition.
12
It is not surprising to see that Trump is demented and incompetent. We have all known that for some time. What is surprising is how long it is taking for the GOP to do something about him. This dangerous man must be removed from power now.
12
I have never (in my 62 years on this planet) seen a person like Trump....a 71 year old "man" who behaves like a three year old. Not my President.
24
Today's presidential? tweet reaffirms Trump's allegiance with white supremacists and was evident instantly. The majority of Americans got the message. Trump needs to resign and take his bigoted WH advisors and cabinet with him.
10
When will Trump family train hit bottom ?
Every day it's new low. I hope so that GOP has shallower bottom then Trump family as only that can help save our country and world.

Our country's worst enemy is sitting in the White House. There should be a recall petition or at least have someone deem him incompetent and let Pence take over. I would like to think he does not know what he is doing, but he does and he is playing everyone and everybody against each other while the country burns! It is time to unite and resist!
8
I don't want that evolution-denying wackjob Pence in the Oval Office, either. Hoping Mueller manages to take both down at once.
Leaving us with Ryan, a grim prospect but perhaps more manageable. Remember how Biden slapped him down with a chuckle?

2
Trump was deeply resentful when he was forced by public pressure to call out white supremacists by name on Monday -- something he did not really want to do. So his petulant rage has now erupted into this graphically violent re-tweet. It's shameful, but not surprising with this president.
25
I see the events as related in that Trump didn't want to offend his neo-nazi base with an apology, so he apologized under duress. This retweet is his "strategy" to get even with his handlers and external critics. It shows that he is an unregenerate racist. Full Stop.
8
Trump is doing everything he can to get his alt-right supporters to stop watching or reading mainstream news. Scary.
11
The "Trump" name is synonymous with hate. Good luck to the kids.
9
Unfortunately most people are missing the crux of the matter with regard to the current manifestation of the Republican Party. I suggest people read Jane Mayer's "Dark Money" and Nancy MacLean's recent book about the hijacking of democracy by the radical right wing that has FULLY taken over the Republican Party. Trump will stay in power as long as the Koch Brothers allow it. Although the Koch most likely loathe Trump, they are also mindful that if the process for impeachment or 25th Amendment removal goes forward, it would most likely sink their hijacked, extremely right wing Republican Party for the 2018 midterms and the 2020 presidential election. The Kochs would certainly rather have Pence as pres., but the fallout in the interim would probably be too much of liability for them to take a chance on impeachment. Make no mistake, there are only a handful of Republican reps or senators who will go against the Kochs. They all remember what happened to Eric Kantor a few years ago. So the abhorrent, despicable Trump will stay in power until the Kochs give the thumbs down.
25
Yes! Jane Mayer's book "Dark Money: The Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right (2016)" is a must-read for every Democrat.

How about we crowdsource a bid to buy Twitter?
11
Why aren't people boycotting Twitter until they delete Trump's account?
1
Trump needs to be removed from office! He seems to have many psychological problems and is unable to lead our country in an appropriate, positive way.
11
Using that cartoon after what happened this weekend shows Trump to be thoughtless and thick. For most people it's an image of horror, nothing like a cartoon
14
these continued attacks on the free press by the most powerful man in the world" have to stop. It is the most important feature of our democracy.
9
Dog whistle to his alt right supporters. He was forced to make the second set of remarks. Carry on.
10
Trump loves to stir things up. Honestly, I'm tired of going after him. We all know what he's like. I think we need to shift our focus to the Trump supporters who put him into office and start calling them out. The press is giving them a pass, but they are the root of the problem.
19
I don't see going after trump or his fellow travelers as mutually exclusive. Trump has trouble holding one rational idea in his head at a time, we needn't impose the same constraint on ourselves and our democratic process. Impeach and replace.
When a time for restraint is in order Trump does the opposite. He misses the fact that the American people are hurting and confused and are looking for consolation and sincere leadership--not payback or retribution.
9
Immigrated to USA as a child; have always been very proud to be an AMERICAN and still am. However this is not the America we came to . Trump says "make America great again" . It was and is great but Trump is lieing because he is making Ametica LESS great.

Call your. Congressional Representative. Call your Senator. Enough.
Call your. Congressional Representative. Call your Senator. Enough.
31
Nothing will happen to the current occupant of the White House unless and until Republican members of Congress see their chances of re-election evaporating in 2018 unless they do something about this man. The power lies with people living in Republican districts.
4
And while we're all losing our minds over the latest presidential tweet (or retweet in this case), Scott Pruitt is selling public lands to private investors to mine for coal or drill for oil and unqualified right-wing judges are being appointed all over the country.
That is how the Koch brothers have been, and continue to, force their minority voice upon the majority in this country. Wake up.

Agreed. Time for the media to spotlight the Dark Money movers - they won't like that. Trump is just a puppet albeit an unpredictable one.
1
For a long time I thought Little Donnie was just playing to his base. It would be impossible for him to really believe what he was saying during his campaign and early term in office. I thought he was just an ad-man, a simple liar, an everyday con-man - a shape shifter - a person who would take on any persona at any minute if it would garner him one more vote or one more dollar. That notion no longer seems valid.
It appears that the minority elected a man who believes the preposterous and shameful things that come out of his mouth because he needs to say them to protect his crumbling self-image. His lack of moral compass, intellect or ability to see clearly are not a "brand." The office is exposing him for what he really is - a disgraceful, petty, hurtful, frightened, incompetent child. The stream of mindless vitriol he spurts is necessary so that he can keep reality and self-knowledge at bay. If he ever saw himself as the failure he really is (both in business and in life) he would crumble. He needs to smash the mirror before it is turned toward him.
My fear is what will happen when the folks who mistakenly viewed him as I did realize they elected a man who conned them and who is in the process of selling their future for his personal gain. How will they react when he sticks it to them? How will they react when they see themselves in their own mirrors?

As does his, his base (in several senses of the word) is unlikely to admit they are wrong. For them, Trump is an emotional choice, not a choice born of fealty to the US or logic or reason but out of emotion. They are unlikely to take in and integrate new information and change their decisions accordingly -- Democrats all this thinking and Republicans call this flip-flopping -- they will double down, as does Trump. If the first lie is not believed, they will say it a bit louder.
OK fellow liberals - get a grip. The picture is of a man in the act of trying to hold back the Trump train. He hasn't been run over, yet. Perhaps the last frame of will be the derailed, smoldering ruins of this cartoon of a train.
2
No matter what some of his aides got Trump to read, both his affinity for white supremacy and his disdain for a free press will always come through.
7
Make a statement Twitter!!!! Take him off. Is there a situation where "freedom of speech" should have limits? We are living with unbridled incitement to violence. For guidance, look to Europe. This is beyond idiotic. Take his bully pulpit away and make him govern the way others have, by having something intelligent to add to conversations, not inciting violence and creating scapegoats. You can look to Europe for a history of that as well. Enough already!
7
I get it now. This is what making America great again is all about. Recreating social struggles of the dark days of this nation is apparently on the agenda. Is plunging into another war next? Maybe dropping another nuclear bomb or two? Advocating vehicular attack on humans now? Who is the terrorist now?
4
All things occur twice in history: once as tragedy, once as farce. Trump has taken us through the looking glass and forcing us to relitigate the culture wars from the end of the Civil war to today. That he has done so successfully in evidence of the fact that "we" (the "left") thought we had come to a series of rational decisions about race and culture and society but are now proving to have erred on the side of optimism relative to the "right"s ability to be rational.
Just as during the civil war half of the nation is "at war" with the other half as we come to realize that Trump wants, along with his acolytes, to drag us back 150 years into the past.

Seem Trump needs a supervisor to do his job, seems is wasting the time doing absolutely NOTHING! Americans elected a boy to do POTUS job, he is AWOL, tweeting petty cartoons crushing CNN. Trump is so consumed by his image, staying up all night to send such a tweet crushing CNN, SHAME!
Trump is simply childish, petty and AWOL as POTUS. A leader leads from the front, not from behind. He made known what was on his mind after Charlottesville incident, reading from a teleprompter 2 days later was good acting. This guy is a big joke. What a very immature POTUS............very very sad indeed!

The White House needs a Special Assistant for Presidential Impulse Control.
5
Wasn't that supposed to be General Kelly's job? So much for him.
1
This is an unchecked ego in action and out of control. For all those who thought Kelly would be a sense of control to the West Wing, think again. Impeach now before he wrecks more havoc upon us.
9
Trump also re-tweeted a neo-nazi this morning, which shows that he actually follows them on Twitter. What a disgrace! Anyone who did this in the private business world would be summarily fired. Anyone who did this in the public government sector would receive a letter in the mail directing them to report for a "Fitness For Duty" medical/psychiatric exam with the Agency Doctor. When is Congress going to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove this unfit personage from office?
12
Look up "tone deaf" in the next Websters - I predict this will be the picture next to the definition

The police have to be good and thorough every time, while the haters only need a sliver of a opportunity.
The FBI arrested 23-year-old Jerry Drake Varnell in Oklahoma City trying to bomb that city.
No congrats on the good work from the White House.
And nothing said yet on the Mosque bombing.

It sure feels like this guy is becoming unhinged by the day, and getting closer and closer to white coat territory. I hope CNN takes legal action. If this isn't a threat I don't know what could be. Good heavens that train is us folks. We're paying for this dangerous garbage.

All this liberal elitist hair pulling and hand wringing just endears Trump more to his base. They love him for it. The Trump movement has nothing to do with doing anything other than poking a stick in the eye of their betters.

Lighten up. It's hilarious to Trump voters.
Did they (you) think Heather Heyer's death was hilarious?

It's not possible to be shocked or surprised by his behavior anymore. This is who he is: a hate-filled and compassion-free narcissistic dim-witted embarrassment.

Is there a delete button on the nuclear code?

Is Donald Trump really as stupid as he seems?

Whoever said he was smart? Once you get past the TV persona, it is what it is, very disappointing. Not my problem, I voted for Hillary!
Yes.

I keep hoping for some deus ex machina to swoop in and save us from this nightmare regime. We are inextricably caught up in 45's psychosis, his need to protect his fragile ego from the realization that he's entirely incompetent. But he's worse than incompetent, as we have seen since he announced his candidacy–he's dangerous. His advisors are not public servants. He takes counsel from white supremacists Bannon, Gorka, and Steven Miller. For him to share these images the Monday after a national tragedy is just one more piece of evidence in favor of his immediate impeachment. Pence needs to go as well, since he has blatantly lied and buoyed our dictator wannabe in chief.

Beyond repugnant and not acceptable for the President of the United States!

What a ridiculous, ridiculous 'man.' And I don't believe for one second that the RNC can't condemn Trump's tweeting. Their silence shows just as much a lack of a moral center as Trump's black hole of a mind.
I don't believe that America will be sucked, sucked away by this monstrosity of a man. We're waiting on a hero/heroine with the courage to stand up and reverse the course of this nightmare train.

“Narcissistic Rage” (NR), is a term coined in 1972 by Heinz Kohut…one of the classic behaviors of the narcissist. Most narcissistic victims have experienced serious outbursts of NR which can include violent physical attacks, hysteria, screaming and verbal or emotional abuse.
NR covers a wide range of behaviors from aloofness or mild irritability to serious, physically violent attacks. A narcissist often makes unrealistic demands on those closest to them. The narcissist has a fragile ego that cannot stand to ever be wrong or viewed as imperfect, therefore the narcissist responds with feelings of rage and contempt toward the challenger. When challenged or slighted in the least, the narcissist perceives these as outright attacks on him and reacts with rage toward that person in order to regain feelings of superiority and assuage his self-esteem…They are explosive, volatile outbursts which may be verbal, physical, or both. NR can also be related to narcissists’ need for total control of their environment, including “the need for revenge, for righting a wrong, for undoing a hurt by whatever means”. The fuming rage impairs their cognition, therefore impairing their judgment. During the rage they are prone to shouting, fact distortion and making groundless accusations.
